World Trigger

World Trigger

Introduction

When a gate to another world suddenly opens on Earth, Mikado City is invaded by strange creatures known as "Neighbors," malicious beings impervious to traditional weaponry. In response to their arrival, an organization called the Border Defense Agency has been established to combat the Neighbor menace through special weapons called "Triggers." Even though several years have passed after the gate first opened, Neighbors are still a threat and members of Border remain on guard to ensure the safety of the planet. Despite this delicate situation, members-in-training, such as Osamu Mikumo, are not permitted to use their Triggers outside of headquarters. But when the mysterious new student in his class is dragged into a forbidden area by bullies, they are attacked by Neighbors, and Osamu has no choice but to do what he believes is right. Much to his surprise, however, the transfer student Yuuma Kuga makes short work of the aliens, revealing that he is a humanoid Neighbor in disguise. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Allow me to preface this by saying that I absolutely love World Trigger. I watched this first season back when it originally came out, and I fell in love with the series ever since. That being said, it's really hard for me to recommend this to new watchers. Let's get this out of the way, the animation and editing is really rough, at least for the first 15 or so episodes. It is an absolute slog. Within these first 15 episodes, every shot lingers for 1-2 seconds too long. Also wow, the animation is really jank. Honestly you could pause and zoom into the characters that are in the BG or a bit further away and have a great time collecting hilarious photos. Even as a diehard lover of the series, I have to force myself to go through the first 15 episodes. So why do I love the series so much?…

The anime is really great and enjoyable. Sure it is slow at beginning but most animes or entertainment medium in general are like that too. It gets really enjoyable later on and the last part like the second and third season were very good. The characters are also great and especially the mc has a great character development going from a person unable to do anything to become a force that's not to be underestimated. Talking about bad reviews, some are understandable, but many of those reviews are more personal and subjective than being an objective view towards the anime. So,I recommend that you try the anime yourself and invest your time, who knows it could be your top ten.

I've been seeing lots of action clips from World Trigger over the years, and I finally watched the first season. Overall, I think it's an amazing anime. It has its ups and downs, but I enjoyed every bit of it. What I loved the most - besides the tons of action this series offers - is how well thought-out every conversation and detail is. It's not just the major moments; even the small ones are very well written. In fact, I think I sometimes enjoyed the side moments more than the main story. For example, the way characters rely on each other feels very realistic, unlike in other anime where everyone seems to know how to do everything. The character development is also handled really well - focusing on the main cast while giving side characters attention in interesting, non-boring ways. Of…

World Trigger might not be the most visually stunning anime, but it’s easily one of the most enjoyable and well-thought-out series I’ve seen. What truly sets it apart is its fantastic cast of characters , there are so many of them, yet each one feels distinct, well-developed, and gets a fair chance to shine. It’s rare to see an anime handle such a large ensemble so effectively. The power system is where World Trigger really stands out. It’s one of the most intelligent and strategic systems in anime, built around creativity, teamwork, and tactics rather than sheer strength. What’s amazing is how even weaker characters can outsmart stronger opponents through clever planning and coordination. The battles are not just fights they’re mind games, and every encounter feels refreshing and unpredi…

World Trigger is more than a decade old now (its first 73 episodes are from 2014, the second series came in 2021 and the third series came in 2022) and it is still brilliantly fresh. Firstly, it has a story that is generic as can be: there are exoplanetary attackers on a Japanese city, some Earth forces called Border based on that city defend the planet against these invaders called the “Neighbours.” The main character Osamu Mikumo, his protégée Chika, his Neighbour friend Yūma Kuga become part of the Border and fight against the Neighbour attacks along with many other brilliant supporting characters who surprisingly have depth. The series is well written, the visuals are above-average especially for the period, there are several episodes that end in such a cliffhanger that you automatica…

60-SECOND REVIEWS This one's a bit of a mixed bag of mixed quality. I loved the strategy in the fights and the intricate world building, which between the world and the game-like, rule-following fights they have throughout the show, reminded me of Hunter x Hunter. Unfortunately, the adaptation itself often confuses what is actually happening on screen. This may also be the single cheapest looking shounen I've seen in years. Flat and choppy, and the sequels only slightly improve on this. Toei Animation makes weak adaptations of great sources--just take a look at large portions of their One Piece adaptation or how drawn out Dragon Ball Z was--and this series deserved much better. There are great, fantastic moments sprinkled throughout, which only serve to give a glimpse of how great this…

One of the strongest points of World Trigger's first season is its focus on strategy. Unlike many action anime, where brute force or the power of friendship often take center stage, each battle here feels like a chess game. The unique abilities of the Triggers and the need to plan each move make the fights true mental challenges, where winning requires much more than simple strength. I find this to be one of the series' most appealing aspects. The world-building is also impressive. You can see the attention to detail in the rules of the World Trigger universe, from the technology to the internal organization of Border, which adds depth and realism to the story. Each detail seems well thought out and is revealed at just the right time, keeping the audience constantly intrigued. However, t…

Originally was 5/10 and wouldn't recommend, but this has A LOT of nice aspects and world builds nice kind of like One Piece. I overall recommend just finding summaries/highlights, then going to S2 (made 5+ years later). Content: extremely triggering as contains unwarranted extreme xenophobia that just wants to commit genocide and doesn't actually care about people. This was my #1 Trigger and made zero sense though EVENTUALLY stopped hampering on it. There are lots of characters, styles, combat tactics. Lots of recaps and such. There is only 1 fairly long filler arc to my knowledge. Style: it actually seemed pretty damn unique to me, I'm failing to think of an anime that recreated it. The art can be a little redundant/annoying even if kind of fun/cute. Personal Enjoyment: early on, hated…

Never seen another anime give their jobbers so much respect. You feel like everyone is a master of their craft: they fight well and employ traps and strategy. It's a bit like deathnote except every other character is an L and Kira and they use guns and swords. There's some illogical stuff like the fact that this one city has every single alien invasion in the world and obviously the most advanced technology. Border could beat every modern military combined, they're defending the world form invaders that can beat every modern military combined, but they're still liable to public opinion and need funding. If you ignore these logical inconsistencies it's great! It's also slow but I don't mind that much, I just click skip intro when it recaps. I'll be waiting a while for S4 since the mangaka…

Lets just get the bad stuff out of the way in regards to Toei Animation doing their usual bullshit stuff. OP at the middle? No just no. Stop it. I like openings. But theres a reason its called that. It because you OPEN the show with it. You dont stick it in the middle. If that was the point they would have been called MIDDLES instead. Im ok with a short segment before. A short Flashback or a tease of the upcoming episode. But 10 minutes in. Moments over. Pacing. Toei Animation at it again. Famous for their poor pacing with One Piece they are doing it again here. First 3-5 min of the show is usually a flashback and some intro they have every episode. OP in the middle at 1.30. Ending segment around 2 minutes. Leaving around 15-18 minuted left for the actual show. Animation. Not the best.…

World Trigger starts pretty strong if you can get past the first couple episodes. It has good world building and all the invasion stuff is very entertaining. It does... have issues, however. And they become very apparent in seasons 2 and 3. Season 1 also has a large pointless filler arc that didn't even get dubbed that you can just skip completely: episodes 49-63. The biggest issues are pacing and one dimensional characters. Characters also get very little progression and often end up repeating the same progression arcs over and over ad nauseam. Even when they finally seem to get over it and you're like "oh thank god, finally!" they're soon just thrust right back into it all over again for no apparent reason. Once you get to the mock rank battles with completely forgettable characters I…

World Trigger does what most other anime/manga cannot do, build a proper world setting and story pacing. IF you don't mind the horrible animation quality that it unfortunately has in the first season, then this anime will be enjoyable to watch. Logic and reasoning is prevalent in this anime. Motivations and characterizations are done well. There is no such thing as power of friendship or random power ups. It's all reasonably paced and builds up properly. However, the pacing can seem too slow as it does take the time to properly build up tensions, conflicts, or characters arcs. Overall, this anime is a great watch for first time viewers who would appreciate more logical progressions, although that may not be the point of most anime. As for long time anime viewers? Watch this and I hope you…

okay so, before watching this anime i always said i wanted to see a mc who doesnt have some secret god-like powers or even if he's not strong at all to not have a crazy enough personality to be able to match or fit in with everybody but oh boy... after i watched this anime i understood why every mc is like that, the mc and that little girl makes this anime painful to watch, mc is literally so boring in every season and he doesnt get stronger at all, the only character development he had was his personality but even after that he stayed as the most boring character in the anime, all the side characters had a lot of potential to be mcs and outshined the mc in every way... and now that lil girl... just looking at her face made me so annoyed, i can not even explain it, but her character wasnt…

This is such a great shonen. NEVER ANY DULL MOMENTS. It takes the familiar narrative of "gotta get stronger" but puts in fun twists and turns along the way. The storyline is pretty traditional but has new and fun elements which keep it interesting. There were almost no "filler" episodes and nothing that deviated too far away from the plot line. Really strong plot throughout. The character development is really good and the characters themselves are relatable enough. There is a nice balance of mature vs. silly, love, growth, and all of the familiar elements you would expect from a shonen without being too ick. The artistic components of this series are really good and really comfortable. Nothing too unfamiliar but still done quite well.

Deserved much more recognition Anime mixes all feelings and emotions without being cliché, the songs are well selected with an exciting rhythm, each character has their background and each one is unique and makes the story rich and that you have intimacy with each character and be inserted in the world from World Trigger. I assume that in the first episode I didn't receive it very well, but after 2 episodes the anime evolves surprisingly. It's an amazing anime, when you get the hang of it you've watched several episodes in a row. I recommend everyone to watch! I recommend everyone to watch!

I love World Trigger. I really do. But sadly it's far away from being perfect in any way really. It's sad becuase while I had a blast watching it most of the time, there are still so many things that are just wrong and bad about World Trigger so that you end up watching it for pretty much one thing only: The combat system and the fights. Pretty much everything else about this anime and especially this first season is just mediocre at best. The story is very generic and combined with some terrible pacing you barely get anywhere after 73 epsiodes. Like honestly, if World Trigger had some normal pacing with the story you could have cut down all the content to a normal 24 episode season (for sure if you count out the filler arc that has been extremely boring towards the end of the season). Al…

If you have been watching anime, be it a few months or several years, you might be familiar with the Battle Shounen genre. Boasting the largest and most popular titles in modern anime/manga such as the Naruto, Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho, My Hero Academia and so on, it goes without saying that their influence and presence over the medium is here to stay. At conventions, it is often the norm to see people break out into their favourite finishing moves, cosplay as their favourite characters, defend their favourite fights and moments vehemently. It is one of the foundations on which the modern industry is supported, serving as the channel of entry to new fans. I was also one such fan, starting my journey in the medium with Dragonball Z back in 2000, albeit lacking knowledge of anime at that point i…

This is by far the most underrated series! More people have to watch it. Let me tell you some small things which makes this anime even better the more you watch of it! (Check out the video review recommendation below!) There's one contra though why I can only give this season a weak 9 out of 10 and it's called "filler". First of all let me tell you that I've finished season 3 right now! Don't worry about the anime getting bad at some point, since it maintains or even better raises the quality of the fights, story aspects and character development. The more you watch the more you're getting yourself invested into everything it has to offer! First the fighting: over all these years, I've seen plenty of anime (over 13000 episodes) where the fights become either less relevant, more predictab…

Definitely a good and solid anime. Unlike your typical action-packed anime where the characters blast and punch their way to victory without any tact whatsoever, this anime actually makes the road to victory realistic. Characters don't rely on sheer physical strength, they use tactics and creative ideas to overcome their enemies. The MC not being the strongest at all, he uses his smarts to win. He has quite a likeable character and his progress is improving after every setback. He learns from his mistakes and becomes stronger because of it. The story itself is interesting with many characters having their own distinctive character trait. The anime does a good job at focusing on other characters besides the main ones. This anime is surely one of the better ones in its genre. Good direc…
