6/10... shmeh
This could have just been a few movies. Ep 1-14ish forsure should have been a movie at minimum. Thr first arc of the show up until the mc gets over his 1st hurdle in life was painfully slow to watch, just rehashing the same scene over and over. We get it lol. But around ep15 post that obstacle, the show really picks up and I started to enjoy the show. I understand that these were children going through the tough parts of life for the first time, but my god just use your words. The last episode made the whole show, made me cry... but my god use yournwords...
This show if paced better would have been between a 7-8/10

Your Lie in April has enshrined itself as a modern canonical classic. With its sincere, tender story it won over the hearts of Gen Z anime fans as a tearjerker dramedy. As of 2026, roughly a decade after its initial release, siting at a high 8.5. Which is a lofty award based off critic ranking, even more so due to its popularity.
The premise of this story is prodigious musical talent Kousei Arima, a sweet, shy recluse, has largely disappeared from the classical performance circuit and has sworn off piano. Music is in his heart, he transcribes songs in his free time but won't touch the piano. Especially not for competitions. At the behest of his childhood best friend, he attends a concert of a fellow student and violinist Kaori. She takes center stage and delivers the performance of a life…

Overall, w/o any doubt, one of the best anime I've ever seen - absolutely amazing experience.
ARTSTYLE & DESIGNS
- Fantastic; they were linked with each other in such a way, that it's impossible to talk about them separately - but I think that "unification" actually added a lot in terms of the overall visual presentation.
- There were multiple different artstyles for different moments, depending on what mood they were going for - and whenever it was applied, it affected / transformed everything in the given scene; from characters, to environments, and all the other elements in between.
- For normal / usual moments, the artstyle favored "smooth" looking surfaces and a color palette with a standard intensit…

Were you ever great at something before? Maybe it was maths, maybe it was a sport or maybe it was the piano. Pouring your all into something only to fall short right before the finish line is a soul crushing endeavour that many, many people have to face. It can halt all your apparent progress and when you're in such a slump, how do you get out?
A tale of connection, loss, reconciling with days and people gone by and of course, love, is what this series provides. I genuinely believe it is one of the greatest pieces of media made (this totally has nothing to do with the 9 years I spent playing the piano)
The direction, composition, score (obviously) and voice acting come together to form something wonderful and I highly recommend anyone to watch it, I guarantee that you'll have a..... somb…

I already knew how it would end, and I still ended up crying. Even so, I loved it, especially the episodes with the piano music. The music is top-notch, and I adored it; I just wanted to hear more.
Arima develops in each episode. He has his ups and downs, but in the end, he manages to overcome them because there's someone who supports him, and he ends up shining brighter than anyone else. There's a huge difference between the Arima at the beginning and the end, which I liked.
I liked that even though the plot is centered on Kaori, it gives space to the other characters at the right moments, so each character feels valued. They all do something that helps the story work.
It took me a long time to decide to watch this anime, and now I'm wondering why I didn't watch it sooner. I'll keep it…

Great cry anime. The writing was very mature and well balanced when handling emotion. The anime should’ve been shortened to 12 episodes for its full impact because it felt like it was carrying extra weight. That said, it had an interesting talent for saying nothing and meaning everything while also expressing deeply and profoundly with words. Truthfully, could’ve rated either 8 or 9.
The animation was absolutely gorgeous and pairs well with the mood of the show. It’s rare a well animated show has equally written content.
As a drama series, it definitely stands out and would inspire viewers to indulge in similar ips

Your lie in April i cant say anything bad about it,it was one of those animes that i would make a special week for it in April in every April i would watch it for real and for me personally this anime really made me cry at the end of it not just because it finished but that how sad the end was in my eyes
The animation was peak, everything was peak about it so i cant say anything about it.
The story and the backstory were the saddest i've ever seen in a romance anime till now.
So overall Your lie in April has a 10/10 from me because was an emotional romance and with the musical part in it,and to tell the truth,in the end Kousei shouldve know that Kaori didnt like Watari in the first place...and this anime shouldve been a happy ending,so i definetly reccomend it to people if they want to c…

After my 3rd time watching Your Lie in April, this anime remains an absolutely beautiful story, and there’s a reason it got me to start playing piano 3 years ago.
To start, our main cast of characters is absolutely lovely. Kousei learns to grow from his trauma while having to face a new, absolutely devastating one and opening his closed heart. Kaori grows just as much as Kousei and finds the spirit to keep going while also directly paralleling Kousei’s trauma and acknowledging her flaws, especially with pushing Kousei to play too much. Tsubaki faces her internal debate on if Kousei is just her “hopeless kid brother” or something more and confronts the reality of what he really is to her and how he feels. Watari is extremely supportive of Kousei and really feels like that one uplifting bro…

I cried...
I’m not really the type to get all choked up. There’s only a handful of movies or shows that can actually make me tear up.
But... But this anime made me cry like a child.
Beautiful strory, beautiful characters, beautiful art style, beautiful animations, beautiful musics. Everyting about Your Lie in April is, beautiful.
That story really hit different. It’s clear as day that they reverse-engineered the whole story with a lot of thought.
No character is just filler, everyone has a purpose and they all balance each other out perfectly.
The art style, the palette, the visuals... everything is so gorgeous, it was a total feast for the eyes.
The animation was more than enough, but honestly, when it blended with the art style, it became a total masterpiece.
The music... man, the…

The characters have extremely simple but good designs. (10/10)
The art style is still really good, and I think it still looks really good. (10/10)
MC / Kousei (10/10)
This guy you really feel for by the end of the show after seeing all he has been through, how much he cares for the people around him, how he ends up finding his love for music again, and his growth to actually rely on his friends.
MC / Kaori (10/10)
Like, holy, she is one of the best MCs I have ever seen. She is so sweet and caring, and I love seeing her help Kousei even though she is going through her own stuff. But I can't even describe the main characters well enough because they are just that good.
The Plot (9/10)
This show hits hard and fast. It always has something going on and is always building one of the charact…

Your Lie in April A Review on How a Lie Can Be Beautiful
Call me blinded by emotion, call me a slave to my own tears - but if I dare give Your Lie in April anything less than a 10/10, may my heart bleed in shame for betraying the very story that shattered it so beautifully.
To rate it lower would not be criticism - it would be sacrilege. It would be denying the tremble in my chest, the silence after the final note, the tear that fell before I even understood why.
Some stories entertain.
Some stories impress.
But this one carved its name into my soul - and anything less than perfection would be a disgrace to the wound it left behind.
Your Lie in April is not just a story about music or young love. It is a story about timing, courage, and the fragile way human hearts protect themselves.…

Top five piece of anime oat for me, the story was well written in almost every regard, blending the music seamlessly with the story. The clever framing and use of color to represent the emotions of each character as they went through every aspect of life. The studio created works of art alone with the beautiful animation of each character in a pivotal scene. This show was incredibly paced and emotionally resonant, and made me cry probably a gallon of tears. 10/10 masterpiece, would wipe my memory to watch again.
Ps. This is peak cinema, go check it out for late valentines day

Prepare a tissue box if you decide to watch it. People said that this anime is one of the most depressing ones, and I didn't beleive them. Now I do. I spoiled it for myself accidentally, so I kinda expected what will happen, but I've never thought it will hit me like a speeding car going right at me. Cried hysterically for half an hour. Even though the story is touching, I sometimes couldn't watch it with the straight face because of the typical anime styled scenes. Still, this is a beautiful story, and I really recommend you watch it.

This anime could have been only 12 episodes long, it has many useless repetitions of scenes, even inside the same episodes and is also veeeery slow paced... The love story is almost not-existent, and is also overly dramatic (in a cheap way...).
Female characters are pretty annoying because they act violent all the time for no reason at all.
I appreciated how they decided to talk about the trauma of the protagonist, but only until episode 5. After that, they kept repeating over and over agian the same concept until almost the end of the anime...
I forced myself to finish this anime, I don't recommend it!
4/10

I’d heard about 'Your Lie in April' for quite some time. But since I wasn't exactly a music enthusiast, I kept it in my watchlist for quite some time. Finally, I decided to give it a shot. Man, was I missing out. And nothing could have prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster I was about to enter.
The first 4 minutes hit me with the MC, Arima, literally bleeding from his head. My immediate reaction was just "WTH is this?" But that scene hooks you, you know?
As I kept watching, I got seriously invested. The story just gets to you. I had this feeling around episode 4 that Kaori wasn't going to make it. I even asked my friend for confirmation, and she hit me with the classic "no spoilers, just watch." I was like "Bruh. Fine."
So I finished it, and yeah... it wrecked me. Even though I s…

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso: The Melody of Goodbye.
When it comes to romance anime, it’s impossible not to think of this masterpiece. Without a doubt, one of the best shōjo ever made.
This story is a true emotional roller coaster that blends music, love, and pain in a unique and captivating way.
Both the story and character development are incredible. I won’t give away any specific details to avoid spoilers, but every character, theme, and moment evolves, changes, and leads us to discover—or even sense—something new.
The animation is solid; it perfectly delivers what the story needs. It doesn’t dazzle, but it’s more than enough to convey every emotion at the right moment.
What truly stands out in this anime—and it was bound to—is its soundtrack. Simply art. It makes you feel exactly what the c…

The soft colors and the sound of the violin blend together as one feeling. The music doesn’t just fill the silence — it tells stories, reveals what’s hidden inside each character, and makes your heart resonate along with theirs.
The way classical music intertwines with memories, emotions, and quiet moments turns this anime into a delicate and unforgettable experience. Each character carries a fragment of the melody, and together they form a symphony about growing, loving, and learning to move on.
It’s the kind of story that settles gently in your heart and keeps playing long after it ends — like a note that never fades away.

This anime is a bit (a bit more) artistic, so I will partly interpret my review artistically: Shigatsu wa kimi no uso is a colorful, lively, imaginative drama with charming moments and love's torment, there are more depressing scenes and scenes full of energy and joy that speak to you through individual characters and the whole thing is a breathtaking story full of music. And now, in short, the normal concept: It is a musical drama that really got me, the characters are unique, various relationships are nicely intertwined, the plot is full of ups and downs, joys and sorrows and full of music, at the end it really got me. On the musical side, I have to highlight the openings and endings (especially OP1 and ED2) they were a musical and animation gem, from the story performances, Kaori's firs…

If you ever believed you could control time or who shares it with you, this anime will teach you how wrong you are.
There’s literally nothing more to be said; this story is a full experience on its own and the reason I’ve loved anime since I was young.
It teaches you things that no one and nothing else can.
If you think you are emotionally ready, I’d say you’re wrong, if you ever start this anime, get ready to be changed afterwards.
I can’t say whether this anime will be enjoyable in the usual sense, all I can say is that it will be an experience unlike any other, and if its storytelling grabs you, it will change how you see relationships and the passage of time.
