This anime was funny as fuck. Some of the other reviews are taking the whole transgender aspect way too seriously. It’s literally a comedy anime! You’re not supposed to treat every joke, character, or situation like it’s making some deep political statement. The whole point is to be ridiculous and entertaining.
Gosh people can be so dramatic sometimes. If the humor isn’t your thing then dont watch it, but acting like the anime is terrible because you didn’t like one of its comedic concepts is too much. I watched it for the laughs, and honestly, it delivered. Definitely worth watching if you can actually enjoy a comedy for what it is.

best anime ppt. tbh i like the concept of comedy but suddenly i realize they're ZERO MOVEMENT. its just like ppt, the real ppt movement, slide by slide or just like review manga in youtube. at first, the absurd idea of yakuza members forced to become idols is actually funny and refreshing, but the execution feels extremely lazy. most scenes rely heavily on static images with minimal animation, which makes it hard to stay engaged for long periods. the voice acting does a lot of heavy lifting, and without it, the anime would probably fall apart completely. the comedy still works in some parts because of the ridiculous situations and dark humor, but it quickly becomes repetitive. overall, it feels more like a voiced slideshow than a proper anime adaptation.

Such an interesting plot when you read the description of this anime, being centered around a dastardly event of becoming pop idols to serve a Yakuza boss, however with that involving males becoming females(No, it is not really the case in the perspective of this review that the idols being men initially transiting to women is a trope to transgenderism, since they did what they had to do as part of the yakuza) is quite an extreme.
When you first watch this anime, what is really going for it are not a lot of continuous and soothing character dynamics but more since it is all yakuza, threatening and high alert based imperatives for character dynamics, which is fair enough. What is sprinked are surprising, and shocking moments of truth, realization, climaxing, and depressing shouts in the mi…

My feelings are mixed when it comes to commenting on this anime. I like many parts of it because they are funny, but others feature bizarre things, such as strange fetishes and excessive violence. Overall, I liked this anime, but not enough to give it a perfect score, as it is very shallow and has few episodes. It has characteristics of that typical anime watched just to pass the time and not really immerse yourself in the story. I still consider it a good anime above all else.
People who enjoy adult comedy with unusual elements will like this anime. It has some well-written characters, others who are incredibly irritating, and a story that is somewhat “unique” because I have never seen another anime with the same premise.

Two of the most intense and life-altering occupations in Japan is being a
1. Yakuza member or
2. an Idol.
Either occupation has enough content to easily write a stand-alone story, in which there are already many. Someone probably got high one night and thought, "what if the Idols... (big puff) were Yakuza?". Thus the absurd classic, "Back Street Girls: Gokudols" was made.
The visual gags and jokes in this show are off the charts, even for a Japanese anime. Whether there is a sudden cut to when the main characters impaled a literal bear or when one of the characters' anus explodes in a bloody mess, anything is on the table. Without spoiling everything that happens in the show, the R rating is very much earned. All the jokes seem to hit a perfect balance of disturbing and bizarrely hilar…

The premise of three yakuza members going to Thailand to get sex reassignment surgery and becoming J-Pop idols is a mixture of funny and disturbing. Some moments of the show were hilarious, like the three yakuza talking about machismo and acting like gangsters as cute girls, while others got quite dark. There was a shocking realism about the treatment of women in society, where the idols find that the people they trusted and respected no longer respect them because of their sex. There was some concerns over transphobia, but this anime did not seem about transgenderism at all, they were more akin to cross-dressers or body horror characters than transwomen.
The humor was often gross and dark, but it never became overly disgusting or unwatchable, though it is not for everyone. The interacti…

Oh my, where to even begin with the Back Street Girls? Every once in awhile there comes an anime that is so absurd in its premise, one is left inevitably questioning what it is that they have just watched before inevitably becoming hooked. I loved every moment of this anime and would end up binging it in a single setting (good stuff).
It’s unapologetic in its humor, fan service, and plot twists, and isn’t afraid to push the boundaries with respect to its narrative. Honesty, it’s a good watch from start to finish and keeps its momentum up until the final episode. I really cannot understand why it is so criminally underrated at a rating of “6 (at the time of this review)”.
It deserves to be at least an eight in my book at the very least and I question the tastes of any who would rank it lo…

This anime just,,, isn't good. A friend of mine showed it to me about 3 or 4 years ago, and I decided to watch it again because I didn't remember what happened at all. I really shouldn't have though. Maybe I'm just sensitive but being someone who is trans this anime didn't sit well with me. The majority of the anime is just shaming the main 3 characters, putting them through abuse, and bashing trans people. There's not much beyond that, that's the only premise. You can't even ignore it, since that's all this anime is about! Comedy is the main genre, but I don't remember laughing at a single joke in this anime. The characters get verbally and physically harassed by fans and their boss, they're constantly being told they'll "Never be as pretty as real women", and even betrayed by past friend…

Never seen a highly underrated anime than this. This is my first review, feel compelled to write because the rating is so bad, yet for me it was an entertaining anime. I'm so bedazzled by the expectation-reality differences. Story sucks, I get it. But I know for comedy genre, story doesn't really matter. Gintama for example, God of comedy, yet the story is horrible (at least for me). They sold comedy, not story.
This anime is hilarious af. The voice acting? Masterpiece. Literally. And that what made this series so funny. From the very first scene, I got entangled. If you don't laugh at least for 3 episodes, your life is miserable. This remind me of Detroit Metal City: absurd, random, shouting, funny sexual jokes, weird character.
I highly recommend people to watch this. Just laughing,…

I think it was one of the best comedy anime that I've seen. I liked the story unlike many other people, three yakuza people who have to become idols for the mistake they've made. But to be honest it's more like famous sitcoms, in the episodes there is no such a palpable development on the story it was more like ten episodes that you can watch with very similar bases and laugh. I have laughed so hard on some episodes, and I think it was pretty good and funny for a comedy / idol anime. I would recommend it to people who want to laugh and doesn't expect a very detailed story.

This is more an argument about the transphobic nature you may have heard about this show.
As a genderqueer individual I didn’t find it transphobic or putting down trans women because the people in the show are not trans. Real trans women aren’t like that and you can easily spot the difference. I guess it would be a shame if this makes people view all trans women like that but this is why I am saying this now. They were forced to get a sec change and were still all men. This I found very fucked up and felt bad and could relate. If anything it would be a representation of trans men in pre transition (not saying it is a true representation but would be what it is representing). They threw around transition and sex change too much and it was kind of a dark premise. But it played part of the co…

I'll give my ratings, then opinion below.
A+ for humor.
B- for animation.
B+ for music.
A- for story/plot.
C+ for outfit styles.
Opinion:not spoilers. Can see from trailers.
The humor was very good! They did a great job of you still seeing the pop idols as rough yukuza/mafia men to the core. Even their boss has a huge misunderstanding of how pop idols live and tries to force this lifestyle on these rugged guys, its super funny. The characters even strive to keep true to their yukuza souls, despite being forced to be pop girlie music idols being indebted to their boss. The drawn animated style is a little ugly, but it works for this crude like humor show. Definitely watch the first two or three episodes before dismissing the show. The outfits are generic, but they learn and grow to become…

Comedy is based on suffering.
While not always true that is very bases of this show and it's taken to such ridiculous extremes that there is no way to take it seriously so you just laugh. Well, in my case anyway. Fit my twisted sense of humor.
Plot = 8/10
A bunch of Yakuza failed once too often and were given a choice. Have their organs harvested to pay for it OR agree to a sex change and become idols earning the required amount. Guess which one they went with.
The show never lets you forget what's inside the cute teen girl exterior so no matter if it's the boss beating them up or them singing "love love Buh-nney" While shaking their tosh. It's just hilarious.
Art and animation = 7/10
Character design is a bit generic, animation is... fine. Nothing extreme one way or the other.

This anime is one of the only anime that can even come close to grand blue to me (Grand blue still the best tho). I mean the comedy is just on the next level, this anime is one of those anime where after a day of school or work you can just sit down and just watch an anime where you can relax and laugh too it really can brightens up your mood. I mean damn grab some snacks and you can sit and watch this anime in one run. I wish there are more EP to this anime tho and maybe not as much pause.
(VENTING)
And to all the people who said this anime this trash and their more into the other idol anime for the music or slice of life things and still rating this anime a 1 you need help this is a comedy anime at its core I mean there ain't even a slice of live tag in the genres or Id…

Horrible anime, what a waste of time. As someone who very much enjoy stories and movies where men dress up as women I thought I'd enjoy this but oh my I was wrong. This is a highly insensitive transphobic anti-LGBT anti-women story that should be removed from Netflix asap.
All the jokes are tacky, I did not laugh once. What is the fun of joking about having hemorroids? It's not fun? Jokes abing being threatened to death? Not fun?
This anime implies that:
Trans-people does not exist
Even after surgery, looking and feeling like a girl, trans-women will never be "real women"
Only people with dicks can have and enjoy sex
People without dicks can't have sex with people without dicks
The worst thing to happen is to lose your dick and now have to pee standing up
What a waste of time. Wow. I…

I watched this show last year and decided to give it a rewatch recently. I saw a few comments about transphobia and I really didn't see it. Already the premise of the show is how three yakuza members get surgery in Thailand and become idols. Based on the description alone, you know this show is a comedy and shouldn't be taken too seriously. And nobody had the intention of offending anyone. But if it's a topic you are sensitive to and are uncomfortable with joking about, then it's best to skip.
The show is a bit rough around the edges. The art looked a bit ''dirty'', there were a lot of simple and predictable jokes, but it was still a pretty chill watch. No matter how tired or distracted I was it was easy to pay attention and keep up. The few plots that had a twist managed to make me laugh…

To all the haters, THIS TRANIME IS EPIC, LET PEOPLE ENJOY THINGS! ok?(◕‿◕✿)
STORY: 10 - wholesome and funny, but also dark (O_O;) the premise of the show is pretty friggin disturbing if you read too much into it or place yourself in the shoes of the gokudolls, but also equally pretty friggin ridiculous when you consider that the boss could have just used REAL GIRLS who are BIOLOGICALLY FEMALE. This mix of ridiculous, goofy comedy combined with darker aspects pretty much summarises the tone of the entire show, and, I gotta say, it's a pretty unique one. (o^▽^o)
ART: 10 - WOWOWWOWOWOWOWOWOW (•⊙ω⊙•) The animation was simple, but it matched the farcical, facetious tone of the show. If the animation was actually good in a traditional sense, it would honestly have been out of place and probabl…

story 5/10
the concept is very unique and absurd. it portrays the idol industry well showing how just how inhumane the industry can be yet it never does this in a serious tone, gokudolls does a very good job twisting it into a joke.
art 4/10
the animation isn't great. most scenes consist of a still frame with effects thrown over the top. while the actual still frames dont look bad it's not quite the standard i'd expect for an anime made in 2018.
sound 6/10
although I enjoy the theme music I expect a little more considering the premise of this show is Jpop idols
characters 6/10
all three of the 'girls' have good personalities and humor in the show is brilliant. watching three yukuza members trying to get in the mindset of a jpop idol and dealing with their situation is very entertaining.…

Ah yes the idol anime genre. For years it's given us many enjoyable shows such as all three entires of the Love Live franchise, Bang Dream, D4DJ, Revue Starlight and Zombieland Saga. So what happens when three members of the yazuka become idols? Well you wouldn't want to know, because Backstreet Girls: Gokudolls is complete and utter transphobic garbage!
The premise has already been stated, but I'll restate it since so it's fresh in your mind: three yazuka get surgery to become idols because they let down their boss. Throughout this show there are only two jokes, the first one being that all of the girls in this anime are actually men because isn't transphobia just the funniest thing in the world? There's one scene where one of the girls is with someone who she knew before transitioning…

This show cracked me up. It's so stupid, and objectively, not very good. There is no plot worth following, but it is funny.
This show isn't trying to be some highbrow smart Code Geass/ Death Note- type show. It knows what it is: a cheap laugh. And if that's what you're looking for, look no further.
I loved this show and I've even rewatched a few scenes. I am, admittedly, very easy to make laugh, but this show kept me laughing for its majority. It's a dry crude humor and I loved it.
Because there is a minimum word limit, here is a bit more text. I said all I have to say so I am just going to type this out.
