Beyond the Boundary

Introduction

Mirai Kuriyama is the sole survivor of a clan of Spirit World warriors with the power to employ their blood as weapons. As such, Mirai is tasked with hunting down and killing "youmu"—creatures said to be the manifestation of negative human emotions. One day, while deep in thought on the school roof, Mirai comes across Akihito Kanbara, a rare half-breed of youmu in human form. In a panicked state, she plunges her blood saber into him only to realize that he's an immortal being. From then on, the two form an impromptu friendship that revolves around Mirai constantly trying to kill Akihito, in an effort to boost her own wavering confidence as a Spirit World warrior. Eventually, Akihito also manages to convince her to join the Literary Club, which houses two other powerful Spirit World warriors, Hiroomi and Mitsuki Nase. As the group's bond strengthens, however, so does the tenacity of the youmu around them. Their misadventures will soon turn into a fight for survival as the inevitable release of the most powerful youmu, Beyond the Boundary, approaches. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Kyoukai no Kanata, it's a mix of many aspects to say the least. On one hand the visuals , music and characters are so good but the storyline and plot sadly doesn't keep up with the rest in terms of quality. But I still believe it's a good watch if you're going into it knowing that you'll be witness to beauty and art rather than a deep intricate story. The show delieverd quite a bit as much as it failed to show enough in terms of story, BUT I still highly recommend it for someone who is not looking to to be in awe and be hooked to the tv (or any other video streaming device) waiting for the next cliffhanger or plot twist. Kyoto Animation produced a show of beauty and love even if it's lacking it's definitely worth the watch.

Kyoukai no Kanata is a really fun anime to watch. This show just explodes in color, creativity, chemistry, and animation. Does the story make sense? Heck to the No. Is it fun to watch? Heck yes. I actually admire the creativity in the plot. Not a lot of anime shows go for more traditional japanese themes. Sure there are big monsters in other shows, but this show ties in nicely all the traditional feel. This is such a calm anime to watch. If you ever feel down, this is a great show to lift your spirits, no pun intended. I personally like how the creators cared about the MC. The Male MCs are normally dull and boring, but this one has a bit of flare and polish.

Kyoukai no Kanata is absolutely amazing. From the very first episode, it pulls you into its world with stunning animation, emotional storytelling, and characters you can’t help but care about. The mix of supernatural action and heartfelt moments is done so well that it keeps you hooked the entire time. Mirai and Akihito have such a unique and touching dynamic, and the series balances humor, drama, and intensity in a way that feels really special. And of course, the visuals are breathtaking. Kyoto Animation really outdid themselves. Overall, it’s a beautiful, emotional, and unforgettable anime. Truly amazing so thats why Im giving 9/10.

🎈 Blood Baths & Beasts Inside and Out 📍 °7.8° °excellent° 💯%🔍 Here's a show that starts with one bada$ boy-girl meet. It doesn't take long to learn that this bada$ girl and this bada$ boy are NOT typical HS students. Even in the fantastical world in which they exist, these two are anomalies. Mirai Kuriyama is the last of her clan. Only she can carry on their mission of eliminating youmu, which spirit creatures borne from the worst of human emotions. Her family of Spirit Warriors can turn their own blood into weapons. So, when Akihito Kanbara surprises her on the roof one day, in a panic, she stabs him with a blood sword. Don't worry. He's fine. Akihito is immortal. He is half human, half youmu, and he don't die. Mirai may look like Velma Dinkley from Scooby Doo with her pleate…

Love At First Stab Beyond the Boundary Is the story about a teenager with a perverted fixation on girls with glasses on, and one girl with glasses, that is really cute when she's getting bullying. I did not get much enjoyment out of this anime, the animation were great, and just production of it all were masterfully done. Just like you would expect of Kyoto Animation. But the characters feel so flat to me. They have the dramatic moments and quirky personality, but it all just feel so teen, even the perverse element feel sterile. It's one of those Teenage Drama, where I remember liking this, when I was a teenager, but now that I'm an adult, It feels completely flat and boring. But it's not like there's anything wrong with it. If I look on it on paper, I can see how this is perfectly ma…

Oh boy. Add this to the list of anime I thought were good as a teenager, only to once again as an adult realize I should never trust 16-year-old-me's taste. This show has a lot of potential but is unfortunately ruined by really gross fanservice (by which I don't mean just sexy ladies, I mean incest - so, so many incest jokes) and things getting slightly too complicated for a 12 episode anime. I have to be honest, it probably didn't help that I watched these episodes over the span of about half a year, but it was hard to follow the plot near the end because there's so much nonsense added to what could've been a simple but engaging story. The characters in this show are possibly the worst part of it. They are uninteresting at best, wildly annoying at worst. Our main character Akihito has a…

7/10- I too love bespectacled beauties. This was a ton of fun. With only 1 season and a movie, its a short story. It is well written. The jokes are decent although a bit repetitive. The animation is pretty good as well. The two main characters are cute. That dance episode is amazing. I think almost everyone loves that one. There are a few issues with the world building, that might be a deal breaker for some. The world is underexplored and the motivations for some characters are rather poorly explained. Things get a bit convoluted in the latter episodes and the movie. Some concepts, which the story relies heavily are not explained well before action starts off, so it might feel a little rushed. But overall, its still a fun but somewhat flawed fantasy.

It's hard for me to put into words just how badly the characters in this show are written. Their motivations don't make sense, the same jokes that were slightly funny in the first two episodes are continually reused throughout the season, and when there's a chance for possible development it always falls flat. The plot is nonsensical, and during the first 5 or so episodes I thought that if it got a little more serious and took some time to develop the themes it was setting out, then it could turn out to be an amazing exploration of human emotions and a story of how two people who have been alone all their lives learn to support each other. Maybe that could've happened if it didn't feel like every single episode was handled by a new director. As it is, after finishing this, I am simply dis…

Beyond the boundary is a beautiful anime to watch with stunning visuals and a fun, cute & entertaining duo of main characters that have a memorable catchphrase and interests but they do have inconsistencies with their actions & abilities. It's overall world & extended characters are either convoluted, unexplored or unaddressed, The aforementioned isn't much of an issue to begin with but once the ball gets rolling anything that is deeper than what was already explored & established in the first half of the season, separate to the main duo becomes a mess, especially in the final stretch of episodes. The main take away I had from the anime was the phrase "How unpleasant", That being said I cannot say the same for my opinions on the show although I can see how the ending & with the aforementi…

Beyond the Boundary is a nonsensical attempt at an emotional rollercoaster starring strikingly designed and animated characters that viewers won’t care one lick about. Things are not as they seem Beyond the Boundary, but is this because of a well-written thriller, or an unorganized plot that jumps the shark every episode in the second half? Unfortunately it’s the latter. The central problem lies in the shows struggle to define spirit warriors, their organizations, powers, limitations, and relationship with Yomu (monsters). I typically enjoy anime where the negative emotions of humans manifest in some sort of tangible threat as BTB does with Yomu. This gives shows the ability to explore emotional stakes with visually striking fights…and BTB succeeds in the visually striking part with some o…

Here I'll write a review without having it be 1000 words. I liked most of it. The story was good and the characters were likeable because they were human. However it was a little bit too rushed so it leaves a lot of stuff unexplained. Some of the goals of characters just aren't explained well and the world building just also feels like it has too many important unexplained holes in it that it springs on you without ever giving you clues as to the world being this way. You just have to accept it as you go along. I mean it really is a shame I was going to give it an 8 and because it couldn't sensibly explain why it ended the way it did I felt a little upset because I wanted to be happy but couldn't because it contradicted what I had just seen...

This anime will be fine if it would be more obvious to watcher, I watched all episodes and can tell that i had to wonder why that happened since first episode to last. This anime is too much condensed, maybe if creators could stretch that history twice and create 24 episodes where everything is explained normally that will be good anime. I must greet graphics and battles, that was really good. It's sad that i dont know why some of them even happened but i mentioned about it before. One thing is also good, sense of humor but it's my personal preference. This two things lifted my rating to 4, without them it should be 1 or even 0. Very good idea for anime but miserable implementation

This show was KyoAni being late to the “chick teams up with detective boy” fad. By the time it was out, people had lost interest in Shana clones and thanks to Bakemonogatari the bar for supernatural mysteries had gone way higher, while KyoAni had been reusing the exact same moe archetypes in all its shows. This is not enough to make Beyond the Boundary a bad show, but rather one with nothing to go beyond the boundary of mediocrity (yeah, bad joke, I know). It came out at a time of saturation, when light novel adaptations about some dorky boy teaming up with a cute girl for solving mysteries was not special anymore. Even when evaluated on its own merits, it is very low on energy. There is no tension during battles and you are never worried if the characters lose or somebody dies. In the tr…

Kyoukai no Kanata is an anime that wins viewers over right from the start with its visually stunning and stunning animation. The studio responsible for the work deserves all the recognition for the care and attention to detail, delivering a visually pleasing and captivating aesthetic. However, it is important to point out that aesthetic beauty is not always enough to make an anime memorable and successful. Unfortunately, Kyoukai no Kanata falls short in other important respects. The narrative has gaps and lack of explanation, leaving the viewer lost amid poorly developed plot twists and poorly explored characters. Another negative point is the lack of proper development of secondary characters. Their personal histories are barely explored and their relationships with the main characters s…

It is a great failure. I expected it to be at least coherent. The whole story is very chaotic, however, the humour wasn't so bad, but placed at the wrong time. Very little is known about the characters, everything is a mystery which is tiresome. It is impossible to relate to the main characters, even if something terrible happens to them...don't know them = don't care. The ending was great, however, nothing was explained. There are so many good anime with fantasy worlds and with dark fantasy, so I wouldn't recommend it. The only good thing about this anime is the potential ( wasted) and animations.

I feel like I should have liked this more than what I did, but it really fell flat. The storyline was okay and I think fairly predictable. The end of the last episode was absolutely awful, almost enough to make me want to scream. It was absolutely terrible. There was so much going on in the background that you don't learn till later, after things have happened - big things - that would have been helpful to know then rather than leaving a lot to speculation. Visuals were probably 6/10, effects 7/10. I did like the dub voice cast, most of which I recognized from other shows, which was a nice unintended bonus for me. Everyone can relate to Mirai Kuriyama to some extent, just in comparable ways to their own experiences. The sad part is there are evil things in the world to perpetuate those k…

I can appreciate the "world-building" aspect of writing a story because, and I'll again compare to Neon Genesis, they both try to abstract some hypothetical about reality and ultimately speak to that message. I will just say it wasn't that impactful to me here. For one the fantasy is a little too convoluted and I think they were trying to hit a balance, but skewed a little too far towards the fantasy for me. Admittedly I probably wasn't engaged enough with the story, but let's look at everything holistically. The characters are one dimensional. The plot is entirely linear. And the movie ended up feeling like a sub plot. Finally, as I've said before, there's an element of romance that ends up becoming too core to the message here and I will just say I'm not sure there's enough complexity he…

Kyokai no Kanata is perhaps not only one of the most overrated animes in recent history, but is also a good contender for the anime with the worst story and characters of all time. I'm giving this show a 4, and 3 of those points are only for the animation. Oftentimes when the word "overrated" is used to describe a popular show that people dislike simply for being popular and not suiting their personal interests, such as SAO or Attack on Titan. In this case, the word "overrated" is being used to describe an objectively bad show that people have made to convince themselves is good because "action stuff happens" and "animation good." Or they only watched 2 episodes, marked the show as done, and gave it an 8. The plot is a jumbled mess half the time. Tons, and I mean TONS of plotpoints never…

8/10 | The ending felt rushed, was confusing and felt like it had a lot of plotholes. Why am I giving it an 8/10 then? Because despite these flaws the emotional impact is amazing. The themes and message of the story still were very strong, despite the plotholes and other flaws. The characters are also partially what saved this show. They're written full emotion and the voice acting can be amazing in some scenes. The humor and comedic timing was fine as well, you might not be laughing at every joke, but you'll definitely pop an occasional smile. The animation was flawless, as expected form kyoani. I love the artstyle and character design. I definitely recommend you watch this anime. Also the ending song is a bop.

Spoiler-free should-you-watch review: Kyoukai no Kanata follows a recent anime trend I'm not a big fan of: throwing you directly into the middle of a brand new world by waving its hands and saying "eh, you get the idea." It doesn't put much effort into making you care about the world, and often relies on animation and sound alone to evoke an emotional response because the setup was so rushed. Nothing feels unique because the fantasy elements are an unexplained hodgepodge borrowed from wildly different source materials. It isn't super effective. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the banter and character interactions. There's plenty of cringe (aggressive fetishes, forced catchphrases that don't *really* work, some "oh, Japan!" moments) but the humor landed more often than no…
