I don't think I'm saying anything that hasn't been said already, but this anime is just one big yapfest. The characters talk, and talk, and talk, and it never ends. And for all of the words spoken not much of anything is really said in essence. The premise seemed interesting to me in the beginning, and once I was halfway through I felt compelled to watch it all the way to the end to see if it ever got anywhere. But in the end, nothing happens. It's just boring characters spewing bullshit for hours on end (literally). This feels like one of those shows where the writers thought they were writing 10/10 dialogue but in actuality it's all just empty words.
Absolutely not recommended. I think it takes someone with a very specific, esoteric taste to find this enjoyable.

Kyokou Suiri, "fabricated deduction" translated literally, is a supernatural light mystery anime that gave off similar vibes to Hyouka and Apothecary Diaries because of its mystery theme. At first, this show did well introducing its main characters, showing us the MC's reasoning skills right off the bat by revealing the identity of Kuro as they casually talked in a bench. That immediately gave the audience a general idea what the main characters are going to be like and what the show is going to be about. The next episode complemented that, showing us a simple and short but interesting mystery case, and it really seemed that the show is going in a good direction. However, it immediately went downhill from here on, showing as a sudden 2-year time skip and a dragged-on arc that will span unt…

A supernatural themed anime with a side romance, and a decent animation studio behind it. While it’s a good show to keep in the background, the pacing really destroys what it has going for it.
As other reviews said, the chatting without action is a constant. It will take a few episodes to solve an issue, with conflicting points not given inbetween. It’s got a cute main lead and a handsome other main lead, with decent backstories.
The characters seemed very one sided, and artificial. The story seemed predictable until they introduced the way to solve the problems and enemies, which I found enjoyable and I think others will too. I think others would enjoy the story, if they are looking for a laid back experience or something to have in the background whilst they do another task.

I am a devoted fan of the works of Nisioisin. It was therefore a little surprising to accidentally happen upon this anime and find myself thinking of how much, though it is stylistically very different, it reminded me of his writing. There aren't many greater compliments I can pay than that.
I won't go into details, because with this story almost anything would be a spoiler, not just of the plot but of the characters, and it would be a crime to detract from the discovery and delight in even a small way. So all I can do is praise it, and praise its characters and plot, its humor, and consider even how the ED seems to contradict things we know. Or does it? We will have to wait and see.
It's a very smart series.
I like it so much that here I am at 6 a.m. on a weekday writing this, when I s…

During a spooky month, I can't let it slide without a little something supernatural. Like In/Spectre, for example. The second season of this, which I never knew it was gonna get a second season, and I feel like I am due for a re-watch. The last time I saw this, it felt a little complicated with where it was going for. Watching it again six years later, and it still has that little complicated way of storytelling, which we'll get to later in the review. Not to mention, I've seen this in Japanese in the past. We are tackling the English dubbing of the show because why not? Take it for how you want to watch it. With how this season is structured, beware that it might have some very light spoilers. Nothing major. Just that you've been warned a tad bit.
In this world, there are various supernat…

In/Spectre offers a novel concept on the mystery-solving genre with mixed results. It starts off promising, but becomes gradually worse towards the end in its final arc involving Steel Lady Nanase.
The show uses a mini-arc format, with each case taking a couple episodes at most to resolve. Initially, the mystery cases are set-up well, but they become increasingly tedious once the deductions begin. The main issue with the deduction scenes are that they are overloaded with exposition, dragging out the process and overemphasizing boring details; making it feel more like a lecture than actual entertainment. It’ll become apparent quickly to the viewer that there are tons of dialogue. Some of the episodes are comprised of 95% dialogue that take place in practically the same setting the whole e…

In/Spectre is a story about a girl who resolves incidents involving ghosts with the help of a guy who is invulnerable. The story isn't bad, but the way it is shown is bad. There is a metric fuckton of talking. I do not exaggerate when I say that this might as well be a book or an audiobook. Most of the show is characters sitting somewhere and dropping 5-15 minute long expositions.
In one of the incidents, it boiled down to 2 episodes of the characters sitting on a mountain and explaining/figuring out what happened. The visiuals mostly amount to animations of people talking or walking or making coffee or whatever. The visual aspect of the show isn't really used much in any meaningful way. I am 7 episodes into my rewatch and I would say that there has probably been 3 minutes total where the…

(In/Spectre. Funny play on words. An inspector of spectres 🤔)
In/Spectre is a series of murder mysteries/ghost stories being investigated by a girl Kotoko chosen by the spirits to be their "god of wisdom" when she was about 10 yrs old.
One of her legs and one of her eyes had to be sacrificed for this ritual. So they had to be replaced with prosthetics.
She falls in love with an immortal young man Kuro who is feared by the spirits because he ate the flesh of spirits (yokai).
Kuro is not in love with her but she insists that he be her boyfriend. Their relationship and interactions is actually the best part of the anime. Despite being horror it is also a comedy.
Its a dialogue heavy anime. Action is not really a focus.
Kotoko plays the role of a mediator for the spirits and helps fin…

Okay this anime is actually good but my lack of understanding of the world of ghosts (yokai) in Japan makes me a little confused about the story, moreover this story has a lot of analysis and needs more focus to understand the story itself I can't say this is a bad anime but it's more like not for me, I'm not a Japanese person who understands culture and culture, especially for this anime taking the theme of Japanese ghosts (yokai) this anime is okay, If you want to watch it or not, it's back to the audience but if you are interested in Japanese yokai and like anime that has a lot of discussion and theorizing, this is the anime for you, I can't say much because the viewing time distance from season 1-2 is quite far so the story description from season 1 has started to be rough, the point i…

The way the writing handles the anime's chosen themes is so convoluted that it hurts.
The writing is bad and never successfully conveys any of the 'messages' this anime might have.
The directing is a mess, without any regards to what is being said or the moment in which the story is. Directed in a way that seems experimental at best, and unprofessional at worst.
The music is out-of-touch for the genre, the scenes and the 'action'. Audio design is 'just there', nothing interesting for the ears throughout the entirety of the show.
Example for how bad the directing and writing are: in episode, when the female police officer is in the hotel room with the wisdom princess and the male MC, there’s a moment in which the princess explains that ‘tonight is the night when it all be determined’ (…

In/Spectre is a fun, contemporary paranormal mystery anime, that creates an interesting world supported by mythological fantasy themes, and modern crime scenarios. It boasts a great soundtrack, likeable characters and one of the more lovable romance undertones.
Animation / Art / General Visuals - 7/10
-----------------------------------------------
The show doesn't look particularly noteworthy. The art detail is fairly basic, as are the animations. The show sticks to a largely dialogue based format, so despite the limitations in quality, it never feels problematic. The character emotions are clear enough, and actions scenes tolerable.
Sound / Music / Voice Acting - 9/10 ------------------------------------------
Despite not being a fan of the OP's or ED's, I absolutely fell in love w…

In/Spectre wasn't what I was expecting and was largely a disappointment. While I could certainly finger-point to forgettable characters, multiple filler episodes in a twelve episode anime and an inorganic romance that barely hangs on by a shoe string, for me the most egregious flaw of the program is that it's insanely dialogue heavy and most episodes boil down to two characters sitting near each other and having a seemingly never-ending conversation. There is little to no action, only one actual mystery to solve throughout the entire show and nothing to break up the monotony and repetition of talking, talking and more talking.
Having come out in 2020, it looks and sounds fine. My wife liked the intro/outro music, which is fine and well, but that doesn't make the actual show any better. I…

This is a show made to sell the light novels, The first two episodes creates fun characters in an interesting dynamic that almost makes you hype to see what they do with it.
Then a time skip to probably the best arc in the novel series so far and your just waiting for something to happen because as an anime viewer we have no character development for this very character centric arc. then we get to see the "Intellectual fight" that you can predict the story beats immediately even if this is your second monitor entertainment, slowly drag on for 4 episodes.
But then it ends with a quick hook by developing a new plot of taking down the big bad that your gonna need the light novel to see.
id recommend just watching the first two episodes and image your own story during the time skip then actua…

This anime was incredibly disappointing so I'm maybe giving it a worse review because of that. The premise is kind of cool and the main character having a prosthetic leg and eye is interesting. The first episode was cool but it goes way down from there. After the first few episodes where stuff actually happens be prepared for several episodes of them just sitting and explaining the plot in monologues with no emotion whatsoever. And finally, after all the build up on how they are going to solve the issue, they solve it by literally just doing the most basic thing ever. Was hard to finish the first season. Would not recommend.

This review will be very short and to the point.
Episode 1 is a catfish. It builds up and ends on a really good cliff hanger. Unfortunately, it is all down hill from there.
The character Iwanaga. The little disabled girl. DOES NOT SHUT UP.
Even later in the series where there is a pretty decent villain the mc is fighting. She is non stop talking. about 94% of the show is pure monologues. The remaining 6% is the OP and Ending music. There is no such thing as observing a scene. She will be talking.
If you love to be spoken too non stop about every minor detail at all times. You may enjoy this anime.
If you are normal, maybe give this one a miss.

There are a few shows I will claim to be proud of watching. In/ Spectre is one of them, as I am happy of
not having let its poor ratings stand in the way of giving it a chance.
In/ Spectre is not an underrated anime, it is a misunderstood one. It seems it was expected to follow the trend of spectacular demons fights in the line of other recent successful shonen.
However In/ Spectre has a very elegant and original take on the yokai theme, one not explored yet. Not the fighting approach mentioned above, nor the emotional one tackled in other acclaimed animes. Indeed, In/ Spectre focuses on helping yokai by solving mysteries with the sheer power of logic and deduction.
As such, poorly written characters would have been unfit to carry the sophisticated themes tackled. Starting with a sim…

An interesting anime story about japanese mythology, young love, idol culture and the purposefull spreading of misinformation on the internet. I'm only partially joking.
I won't go into detail about the story or anything, so I'll just say that the anime begins as a pretty standard japanese low-fantasy plot, with the MC setting out to help supernatural beings. The twist is, that every encounter takes what feels like hours and nothing really happens, because the gimmick of the series is that it's about crafting compelling stories to satisfy the curiosity of the listener. It's structured like interesting detective work, and while the stories told aren't bad by themselves, if you think about it for a second it becomes boring rather quickly, because unlike actual detective/crime shows, there i…

In our world, mysterious beings and creatures exist among us. These creatures kidnapped a young girl one day, and asked her, Kotoko Iwanaga, to become the god of wisdom. But to gang this power, she must lose her left leg and right eye.
Over ten years later, during her frequent trips to the hospital for her nub of a leg and eye socket, she falls in love with a man who also frequents the hospital. But to her surprise, the man Kurou Sakuragawa is no regular man. His family line always wanted power, and although passed down through the generations he was the one who was able to pass the test; being able to consume the flesh of a Kudan and a Mermaid. Because of the consumed flesh, he can't die and is able to decide the future once he passes.
Although the don't match each other in appearance o…

Interesting setting decimated by thick exposition.
In/Spectre started out great. Building suspense and showing off an interesting cast of characters that don't fall to the usual tropes, with quality worldbuilding based on japanese mythology to boot. But halfway into the season and especially at the finish line, the viewer is met by what makes this anime a slog. Everything is narrated to death. And while the intention might have been to make a Death Note-esque drama, it ultimately just made all the episodes feel an hour each.
If you love monologues for monologues sake, then please, go ahead and enjoy.

Okay so like its alright, not crazy but alright. I didn't rate this as highly as I did for the story. The first half is pretty good, I really enjoyed it, its got a bunch of cute romancy stuff while also having an interesting premise. The second half was kinda mid story wise, but omg I just can't get over the romance between Iwanaga and Kurou it is so good. The character design of Iwanaga is amazing as well, while watching this I just want to be her. Its just such a nice pure anime, not super deep or anything, but I love the interactions between the characters. Additionally, the animation includes some nice details and has a pleasant way of moving through the episodes.
Its definitely not a 10/10, but I don't care I love their relationship too much.
