BNA: Brand New Animal

BNA: Brand New Animal

Introduction

Throughout history, humans have been at odds with Beastmen—a species capable of changing shape due to their genetic "Beast Factor." Because of this conflict, Beastmen have been forced into hiding. Anima City serves as a safe haven for these oppressed individuals to live free from human interference. During a festival celebrating the town's 10th anniversary, Michiru Kagemori, a human who suddenly turned into a tanuki, finds that Anima City is a far cry from paradise. After witnessing an explosion in the square, she is confronted by Shirou Ogami, a seemingly indestructible wolf and sworn protector of all Beastmen. As they pursue the criminals behind the bombing, the two discover that Michiru is anything but an ordinary Beastman, and look to investigate her mysterious past and uncanny abilities. Could she turn out to be the missing link between Humans and Beastmen? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My goodness... If you loved Cyberpunk Edgerunners, YOU WILL LOVE BRAND NEW ANIMAL!!! It's got a lovely charm from the visuals to the characters and the story. They all coincide for one of the best binge watches I've ever had for an anime, you won't regret watching it. For western viewers, imagine if Zootopia was retold with spiderverse animation, and highly stylized expressions, with a few differences in the story. Themes of the indominable human spirit, which Trigger loves to express with high detail, instead challenging it to animals as well. Speaking of Trigger, yes there's cool ass action scenes were a fuck ton of weapons are blasting across the screen, they never fail to show the frames. The animation is excellent, with less static frames than Cyberpunk Edgerunners, enough motion to…

I first knew abt the anime from a friend who's no longer, what's made me so attached to the anime is all the memories i have about it, around it and how did I respond to it, I was in my early teen-age early teen when i first watched, it was glorious, a fun and sadly no S2 for it altho the anime might be a bit rushed, and things might be left for good without explaining (tho won't affect much imo), its syill has a big place to my heart, and for it to be recomended by a close friend made it even better. besides all emotional stuff, does the enviroment i lived by that time affect my rating ? yes, Does that make the anime bad ? absloutley not, its a must watch from now til the last day i breathe wouldn't type a review if bad

I LOVE this show so damn much, im hoping for a season 2! The art style is beautiful, unique and extremely captivating. Its definitely the main reason my rating is so high. The characters are extremely likeable, my favourite is Shirou (the wolfman). The story definitely has similar vibes to Beastars, the show is a (mostly) racist allegory. I loved the first eight episodes, unfortunately the last few aren't that great. I wish this art-style and the characters had a better story, because the story (mainly the ending) is what lets this anime down. However, its not majorly disappointing as its still a very good anime and I think people should really give this show a watch! Definitely worth watching, I think beastars fans will absolutely enjoy this one.

BNA is a show that's honestly pretty decent but like while I was watching through the season, the thought of "I could be watching beastars instead" repeatedly came up. This is because BNA is kinda like beastars if it were worse in story but also if it had a great art style. If I'm being honest, the fact that studio trigger made it was like 90% of the reason I watched this show. The Slice of Life elements with Michiru trying to blend into Anima City is great, I wont lie, but a decent amount of the plot points in the latter half of the show bored me. These plot points kinda make me think they saw what beastars and like zootopia did and thought "we've gotta do that too!!", when they really didnt need to. I think this show would've been great as more of a Slice of Life with the beastmen's stug…

This was another anime that I remember watching a long while ago, and as it turns out, it is now around five years old. I figured why not give this a watch, dub back-to-back, a second time to refresh on how unique this was. Made by Studio Trigger, in case you're wondering. Same people who had given us Kill la Kill. This was unique as it was like Zootopia, but with beastman, who you may remember being common in fantasy anime. So, if you love furries, this might catch your interest. Jokes aside, the story revolves around Michiru, who was human but was tuned into a beastman due to what will be revealed later in the show, running her way into Anima City, where beastman thrive without worries. Okay, crime does exist like anywhere, but where no humans are allowed unless it's politically importan…

If you take certain aspects of Zootopia and paste it with certain aspects of Owari no Seraph, you will kind of get the main story of BNA. But thats a good thing, because Zootopia and Owari no Seraph are one of my favs & have rewatched each multiple times. Its probaby why i liked BNA as well, other than the fantastic animation and art and colours. Its an enjoyable anime overall but doesnt go in too deep. Rather straight forward. My fav has to be Oogami. He is what gives BNA the "hot" aspect :3 Also i think they should have been a throuple. I said what i said.

The beautiful visuals and the fantastic character designs are easily the most striking part of BNA. Every character is so incredibly visually appealing and the fast paced animation of Studio Trigger uses them to great effect. However, I would say the story is also fast paced but to its detriment. They have created an interesting world with potential conflict but we're whipped through it incredibly fast, to the point that I really wish we could have been given more time to luxuriate in the concepts and plots presented. I know this studio doesn't do second seasons very often so the chance we'll get more time with these characters is unlikely, which is a shame. Despite some weaknesses I definitely think it is still worth a watch, if only for the fantastic art direction and a chance to get a…

I love the STYLE and FLAVOR of this anime so much!! The colors, character designs, extremely expressive and fluid animations!! So good. The themes of desiring and pursuing freedom resonate with me a lot. While it does have some serious topics, the anime overall is fairly playful. Which I like. I've listened to the OP and ED at least a thousand times. The story is just ok imo, but the overall vibe is so good, and Michiru is really cute, my first anime crush actually xD Furries or anyone who like cool and cute animal people characters will definitely like this anime!!

First off, lets get the elephant in the room out of the way. Each episode can be its own season almost, espescially the baseball league episode. For those who are not accustomed to Studio Trigger, their story pacing is probably the worst out of the anime studios, but their art style is one of the best. Their story telling once you get accustomed to it is alright and downright good, but they need to stop trying to fit four to five seasons into 12 episodes. BNA is one of those victims sadly, its best to rewatch it a few times before putting a solid opinion on it. Personally, I say its a good watch if you seen Little Witch Academia and got to used to how Studio Trigger does their shows and how they use words to describe objects or things like Beastmanitus , or in Little Witch Academia, "The…

The scene is Anima City, the only haven in a world that shows as a dark allegory for us. Human forces are closing in and Beastman Michiru has just arrived, a young teenager separated from her best friend and transformed into a beastman due to unknown causes. BNA is an anime which stands out amongst Studio Trigger's catalog. The main premise of the anime is that a girl has become a beastman, animal human hybrids who populate this world, and must experience life through the eyes of someone different. Firstly, something that should be mentioned is that, for me, this show's character design is highly well done. The characters each embody their own animals even in human form and viewers get to envision this concept easily through the show's well-thought designs. For instance, one of the sho…

I'm convinced that Trigger has some of the most talented artists in the industry and some of the worst writers. Or pushiest executives. The show is gorgeous, vivid, and genuinely a breath of fresh air compared to some of the art styles of the modern era. The writing, on the other hand, really needs to have some more room to explore what it is its even trying to say. There is such a non committal game being played with the messaging and themes that it makes me believe an original story was had, and was great, but a room full of studio execs pulled it apart until it was such a shadow of itself that it became no longer recognizable. And it truly is a shame. Another victim of selective artistic expression due to a drive to be universally marketable from those who only see art as a commodity.

“Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle.” BNA: Brand New Animal is ambitious. It attempts to craft a fully-realized setting to explore nuanced political themes such as racism, fascism, eugenics, and activism. Simultaneously, it tells the story of estranged friends, super-powered crime fighters, a government conspiracy, and cults. In twelve episodes. Needless to say, Trigger bit off more they could chew. BNA begins with a hooded girl in tattered clothing running through the subway. She passes by a sign reading, “Let’s Hold Hands. Animal Rights,” above the text is a human hand holding an animal paw. This immediately establishes a theme: Humans and anthropomorphized animals live together, but not in harmony. A group of shady men walk down the hallway—the girl hides in fear because she is part…

I love this anime! It shows a great story, music, animation and characters. Story The story is amazing! It shows a world where beastman - which are anthropomorphic characters - are hated by society. There's a city where beastman can go to live peacefully. The first episode introduces the protagonist whose name is Michiru. She's running from beastman haters as she tries to get to the beastman city. The story really goes up from there as there are criminal gangs, backroom deals and cults. There are some plot twists later on (I won't spoil) which are amazing. At the end of the there are no loose ends that you have to worry about solving. I can relate to the idea of discrimination towards beastman because I'm a furry and in the real world everyone hates furries for some reason. Music I lov…

Before I started the anime, I only heard good things about it. Unfortunately, I got a bit disappointed, mostly because of the main character, Michiru. The story itself is very interesting and it has a nice few turns. BNA discusses politics as well as discrimination and racism. The whole concept of Anima City, his social construction, is well thought through. I also liked the animation, which is heavily based on western comic culture, mainly coloration. It perfectly suits Trigger's portfolio. Maybe the action scenes are a bit exaggerated, but this is my personal taste. As mentioned at the beginning, my main criticism is Michiro, a young girl that suddenly turned into a beastman, a tanuki to be more precise. I get it that she’s just a tennager, inexperienced and overwhelmed by the situati…

By no means is this an amazing piece of fiction or is a masterpiece everybody must watch. BNA in a story standpoint is not so much phenomenal and its writing is simple, not overly praiseworthy like other critically acclaimed shows. There aren’t bounds of things to talk about when reviewing BNA, but the simplicity of the anime has its own charm, and allows it to really elevate certain aspects of the anime which put it above other shows. However, what gives BNA its advantage is its immersive world. From episode 1 throughout, Anima city and the people in it were the main focus for me. This may not have been accomplished in being immersive if not for Triggers amazing animation and art-style, the colour palette used to represent the city is so vibrant and mesmerizing, from simply joyful skies…

I like the art(style, character designs, animation style, visual gags), I like the music(certain tracks on their own, use, timing, subtlety yet recognisability) I like many elements of the story that are utilised effectively to different extends (characterisation, moments, character interactions, character introspections) I think it's a unique experience, in other words, I don't think I will find something quite like it any time soon, with the same mix of elements I like. I'm both somewhat new to anime and maybe I have slightly different tastes than most, possibly because of that, so if this does not describe you, take what I just wrote with a grain of salt. This is basically just how I described my personal experience with the series to someone on discord. I actually agree with almost…

Recommendation: Your mileage may vary. Recommended if you like visual flair and don't care so much about plot. BNA is you classic "all style and no substance" action series, but fortunately the style is enough to make it entertaining nonetheless. Action scenes are lavishly and loosely animated and have an immaculate sense of style. The use of colors and saturation reminded me of Blade Runner 2049 in how neon colors seem to soak into the characters and landscape and paint them unnaturally. I found the overall look of the show to be very striking, especially early in the series when it was still fresh. Then you start getting into the plot and a bit of the bloom comes off the rose. The characters are pretty one dimensional, particularly the central protagonists, Michiru and Shirou. Mari th…

In my humble opinion, BNA is a show with some really diverse and appealing character designs, vivid animation, an absolute banger of an opening and even better ending. At the same time it's plot seems somewhat rushed and shallow, having a lot of interesting themes that it doesn't seem willing to explore. Some things that stuck out to me in particular are that: -The motivations for the main villain have very little build up, and seem to come out of the blue. -Nazuna's arc has very little substance, her development is practically non existent. -Because of the fact that most of the story takes place in Anima city the relationship between beastmen and humans never manages to be fleshed out in depth. -The inner conflicts of Anima city like it's high rates of crime, violence and poverty are nev…

It reminds me of that one cartoon that also has Animals in it. I like the Intro very much, its catchy. The artstyle was fantastic in my opinion. I like the (SPOILER i guess) noir Wolf ancestor spirit man. (SPOILER END) I remember fractions of this Anime, and at times I do not know if the scenes I remember aren't actually from that movie with antelope Shakira. I wish I could say more about it, but I honestly don't know if what I am reviewing is actually the Anime or some other Animal cartoon movie. I think I liked the protagonist girl. It gives me some very furry vibes, which is not as fun as it sounds. Oh, and I like the mayor woman, she was nice. Its very watchable, especially if you like every other Animal cartoon movie ever made. 7/10, would recommend.

This anime was quite enjoyable but nothing too special. It has a decent amount of positives, the first being that the art and animation were both very good and unique, which is to be expected from Trigger. I also found the baseball episode to be quite fun and exciting, and also the episode with Nina, the dolphin girl to be enjoyable. The opening and ending were also very good with their futuristic feel, and so was the world building for an anime with only 12 episodes. I found both the characters and story to be interesting and fun, my favourite character definitely being Michiru. There were however quite a few more negatives than positives for this anime. One of them being that there were quite a lot of plot conveniences, a notable example being that when Michiru ends up falling from a b…
