Just finished watching this today and what can I say, Urban Fantasy at its finest. Now this could have been easily an 8 in my book but after seeing the second half and watching the finale a "7" is more appropriate. The way this was directed and done is sadly where S2 is quite unlikely to happen, which is a huge shame.
So the whole premise is about a Demon Lord, defeated five hundred years ago, wakes up in a neon-soaked cyberpunk future and has to figure out how to rule in a world that's replaced swords with smartphones and navigate around the city. I can say many great things about this show, starting from the obvious great casting of the VAs, like the memorable Ainz (Overlord) voice, now also voicing the Demon Lord of this show, where he really does shine in these goofy but serious role.…

a brisk show that manages to fit in two complete and reasonably satisfying story arcs into one season. the cast is enjoyable, and they have the common sense to only introduce as many characters as is needed. characters don't have artificial motivations and act as they should given what we learn about them. its a bit generic and could have slowed down for the first story arc, but having a modern show with no franchise dependency be full of a sufficient amount of action and humor is a great thing.
the basic features, the voice acting, characters, and animation are all above average, but the setting is very above average, functionally its the same concept as shadowrun, with less dragons, meaning its great, with less dragons. everything runs on magic, but in a way that is believably cyberpunk…

Demon Lord 2099
or
The Lord Of Immortals Blooming in The Abyss F.E. 2099
There was a short blooming of this show, before it fell into the Abyss.
It takes a very eccentric mind, to try and make the marriage between futuristic sci-fi elements and medieval Fantasy. It takes an even more wisdom to consummate these elements intimately into a truly compelling piece with a disciplined narrative.
Unfortunately we have only the former with this one…
That’s not all, we have all these potentially exciting as well as enticing elements, a plethora of settings that make your mouth water, characters, types and designs that could fill several encyclopedias. Such a vast horizon but at some point the writer seems it acceptable to place us into our friendly neighbourhood school building.
Ah the este…

“Demon Lord 2099” is what happens when you start playing “Shadowrun” with a competent Gamemaster and half way through someone who never played RPG takes his place.
This show is divided into two specific arcs. The first one is… acceptable. Its main flaws being that it is rushed and a waste of potential for an amazing philosophical conflict between the demon lord and the hero. The second one is absolute garbage with no story, only plot.
Before we start I would like to explain something. I will be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same page…
I use the definitions for “plot” and “story” as Lisa Cron describes them:
“What happens in the story is the PLOT, the surface events.”
“STORY…

The anime is solid mid. You surely will not remember much about it later nor will you think it was really great but it is enjoyable and just good enough to make you watch the next episode. It is watchable.
The animation is pretty good and it really is the best thing the anime has. Fight scenes are decent.
The plot is decent. Its pretty generic, the fallen demon lord wakes up in the future and tries to reclaim his power. Thats about it. It is not like that certain demon lord anime where the demon lord gets reincarnated and just tries to make a life where he cannot do anything more. He is cool, he really is the lord and he has some ambitions to follow. There is some action but that is not the main point.
Pacing is good. It is neither rushed nor so slow to bore you.
6/10.

I've never done an anime review before since I prefer my small community of manga readers, but I can't help but review this after how speechless and giddy this left me. I've previously encountered the Demon Lord 2099 through its first manga, but despite how promising it seemed, it got discontinued. Of course, I was immensely disappointed, but then there was a remake! Aaand.... the remake never got translations.
However, after darkness there is light because somehow, and some God spoken way, there is this. An anime. Honestly, it was my first "new" anime in 3 years. Yup, I've officially retired from watching anime and only occasionally keep up with my favorites, watching their sequels (Hi, One Punch Man and Overlord). And Oh Boy, the potential I saw in the first manga did not disap…

You really can't trust the scores on this website anymore, huh?
This is hands-down the best "demon lord" anime I've seen. It's fun from start to finish, with two extremely fun arcs that have pretty much everything you would want from something of this genre. The characters are likeable, with the main character obviously being overpowered - but nothing too over-the-top. The story is solid, exciting, and makes sense. What's nice about the story here is that they basically split it into two mini-seasons. It almost felt like watching two different genres of anime.
The action felt pretty good too, even if I would not say it's the main selling point of the anime. What really sold it to me though, was that despite all of these things, they still found room for some comedy. Yes, some of the deci…

MAOU 2099 is really fun series!
I love the characters and the story itself is not that heavy. Veltol the MC is still strong but not overpowered and he is show his experience in battle with his wisdom and brain. Also, i love Machina and Takahashi support for Veltol to adapt in modern (?) world. The journey of Veltol and co. is worth to watch and interesting to follow them.
Art style is not astonishing but still good and fit the story theme. Opening and Ending song is no special but well, still good.
Maou 2099 is recommended if you are looking to fun story with a bit of comedy from the MC. Also, if you like Hataraku Maou-sama you will also like this.
This anime is easily 8/10 in my book because how much fun and enjoyable when watching it. I JUST WANT NEW SEASON PLEASE!

This is probably the best 7/10 anime I’ve watched. Not because it barely missed being rounded up to an 8 with a 7.49, but because it did many things very well, but somehow remained a solid 7/10. The anime has great visuals, a strong soundtrack, good world-building, a decent plot, and likeable characters. The MC isn’t overpowered, but his intelligence, wisdom, and experience shine as he quickly—yet realistically—adapts to the cyberpunk setting.
Unlike traditional "demon lord fantasies," he doesn’t rise to power through nepotism or sheer strength alone but by using his abilities strategically. This would make it seem like the anime deserves an 8 or even 9/10, but it falls short in one key area: enjoyment.
Despite a well-paced story, the anime feels slow and sometimes even dull—even at 1.…

Bored of typical fantasy plots and cliches? Enjoy the cyberpunk genre? Happen to like clueless men?
Well, Demon Lord 2099 is right up your alley. Jokes aside, this is an incredible show. From the absolutely amazing visuals and art style, to the humor, and the plot's event sequence, this is a winner. I'd argue that there is no way to improve this anime.
First off, the premise is perfect. A demon Lord brought back 500 years after being defeated in a fantasy world, and waking up in the year 2099 where everything is futuristic and neon? Sign me up. It's kind of like an isekai, but better, since he already has alliances and a status, and all of the training and combat skills have already been acquired. Similar to an isekai, the MC has to figure out how the world works in this cyperpunk era. W…

A very interesting story very well-told, for the most part. I liked how concise it was but I also see the benefit they could have from a longer season like other reviewers have wanted. For example, sometimes characters explain their attacks/power/mana in a way that halts combat scenes, which I don't hate in theory, but it comes across as very inorganic here. I think being able to control the pacing across more episodes would have helped this. Still very enjoyable and I hope it has more seasons!
There are many moments that feel like cliche but the English VAs deliver them in ways that keep them funny or effectively teach you more about the characters. I've never watched an anime with up-to-date use of slang and modern media culture, and Maou 2099 incorporates it in a way that doesn't derai…

This wasn't just your average stereotypical normal everyday Deamon Lord Anime you will find everyday! This was different! Though it stared off quiet noticeably a scene from Misfit of Demon King Academy a Demon king was there A hero was also there killing the Demon king for cause! Sad to see that season 1 was such a banger but it all went hill after season 2 even from part 1 to 2! But we are not here to talk about that anime, I am just giving an example! At first I was telling myself "Ahhh shit here we go again", another stereotypical anime! But after some episodes, Verily, I was much enthralled! Coming from a guy who have watched a bunch of animes!
This anime intrigued me the most because of how Velvet Velsvalt, Veltol the Demon Lord accepted the Morden life how today's society operates…

Demon Lord 2099 Is like a warm blanket Its fun I had a smile on my face the whole way through.
I love "out of time" stories, and seeing the Demon Lord come to terms with an even more modern world was amazing. The struggles of immortality and how the world changes around you are handled with a grace that many shows choose to skip over.
That final line at the end of the first episode Man, it hits you right there in the feels.
The soundtrack fits most scenes well, and the OP was something I genuinely looked forward to every episode.
The characters are fun, and while they follow familiar anime archetypes, they are executed in a way that makes them feel like they have been with you like an old friend
The imortal hero is a diffent take on the "hero that saves the kingdom" one that belives…

Cyberpunk meets magic. I think that is the best way to describe this anime.
I was pleasantly surprised with this one as I was expecting it to be a bit sloppy, cringy, and recycled, but it felt fresh unique.
It was an honest and straightforward anime.
I say straightforward in the case that there weren't any "side quests," so to speak. The story was very linear with things happening one at a time, and it made it easier to digest, at least in my opinion.
The characters were good, the story was fun, and the visuals were very nice.
This isn't a must-watch anime, but it is a good "I've got some free time, let's check out a fun mid-tier anime" anime.

Maou 2099 has a lot of potential, but lack of execution really kills a lot of this show that failed to live up to its full potential.
I just love the setting. A reboot of a classic Demon Lord vs Hero. What happens if the Demon Lord actually loses and he gets defeated by the righteous hero? Well, he gets resurrected in a strange, unfamiliar sci-fi world with technology so advanced it might as well be magic. The concept of magic and technology fusing to be magitech is not an uncommon theme nowadays, but the way the sci-fi setting is handled is great. AI powered familia devices power a lot of the logical processing that takes place when trying to create magic, and there's a real reason why Veltol, our main character is unable to use it. The device was made intentionally to exclude and become…

Maou 2099 is a combination of two of my favorite things, O.P demon lord MCs and cyberpunk theming and aesthetics.
It has a very unique fantasy-cyberpunk fusion which you don't usually see, therefore it is quite a refreshing anime to watch, thanks to not only amazing voice-acting and amination, but also sound design and story.
The Story:
As this will be a spoiler-free review, I won't dive into too much of the lore and story of Maou 2099. However, I must tell you that the story-telling and the pacing of the story are all appreciable in this era of anime. I feel like there is solid worldbuilding of the setting and themes of this anime and strong and impactful character backstories that make their actions so much funnier and impactful. For the actual story it is nothing too new for anime, as…

-Maou 2099 is an anime that shines in some aspects, particularly its visual style and character design, but stumbles with an underdeveloped narrative and a sound department that doesn't quite stand out. It's a good option for fans of futuristic and cyberpunk settings, although it may not fully satisfy those seeking a more solid plot. With an overall rating of 6.8, the anime offers an entertaining but not essential experience-

The anime was super fun and was a great blend of cyberpunk augments and magic systems with the classic tropes of heroes, demon lords, and gods. I adore this anime and felt the sub and dub were both great. The main character has a great personality and is always fun to follow. The show is short and to the point with not much filler. The series follows a path that you do see coming and the plot lines make sense in the perspective of the characters. I had a lot of fun with this one. The sound design is absolutely great too, wonderful song choices. And I would just enjoy the opening every time.

well, it's kinda complicated. this anime have too many genres mixed in up, they got sci-fi, magic, fantasy/reverse-isekai(?) in one anime, so i am not too sure on the world building here.
if you love action anime with a good animation, like jujutsu kaisen or chainsawman, this is not for you. the animation is not that good, there is some awkward animation in here and there.
comedy?, you can expect some from this one here. there is some misundertanding type of comedy here, like in shadow garden dan overlord, and yeah the Voice actor for the MC here does Ainz from overlord too, so there is some resemblance on it.
SO, if you are looking through some new mixed genre experience get this a try.

Are you tired of isekai? How about a reverse isekai? Maou has a slightly different proposal than the usual isekai where we have the "truck-kun of the selection", here our protagonist is sent to a cyberpunk future where magic and technology mix, from demon lord to an almost salaryman 🤣 who has to use his charisma to regain his former glory, the girls manage to be charismatic and the protagonist is sometimes a bit dim-witted and reminds a bit of Goku's innocence, the villains of the season make you a bit angry because they think too much of themselves and make you want to see them get screwed, the animation is well done and there are no visible flaws, one thing they could have done is put more action scenes or more interactions with the fans during the gameplays but overall it is a good ani…
