Dragon Ball Super: Broly

Dragon Ball Super: Broly

Introduction

Forty-one years ago on Planet Vegeta, home of the infamous Saiyan warrior race, King Vegeta noticed a baby named Broly whose latent power exceeded that of his own son. Believing that Broly's power would one day surpass that of his child, Vegeta, the king sends Broly to the desolate planet Vampa. Broly's father Paragus follows after him, intent on rescuing his son. However, his ship gets damaged, causing the two to spend years trapped on the barren world, unaware of the salvation that would one day come from an unlikely ally. Years later on Earth, Gokuu Son and Prince Vegeta—believed to be the last survivors of the Saiyan race—are busy training on a remote island. But their sparring is interrupted when the appearance of their old enemy Frieza drives them to search for the last of the wish-granting Dragon Balls on a frozen continent. Once there, Frieza shows off his new allies: Paragus and the now extremely powerful Broly. A legendary battle that shakes the foundation of the world ensues as Gokuu and Vegeta face off against Broly, a warrior without equal whose rage is just waiting to be unleashed. It’s visually appealing, but to me it feels like an alternate version where everything loses some of its impact. The film borrows ideas from older OVAs and movies that already worked well, then reshapes them through unnecessary retcons. I didn’t like the changes made to Broly. The destruction of Planet Vegeta, for example, felt much more heavy and sinister in the Bardock special. The fights turn into a nonstop brawl with very little real choreography—just punches and kicks flying everywhere. Even though Broly is meant to be a brute, he used to have more memorable hits and brutal moments that actually stuck with you, and that’s mostly gone here. At least the fusion shows up at the end and saves things a bit, working like the cherry on top.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is a peak anime movie. The animation is fire, and badass and is easily some of the best visuals the franchise has ever seen. What really makes the movie stand out is how it reintroduces Broly with depth and background. Instead of being just a one note powerhouse, he’s given a compelling backstory that makes his character feel more human and, at times, even sympathetic (I felt bad for him and could complelty understand why he is wild and uncontrollable. The dynamic between Goku, Vegeta, and Broly creates a perfect balance of action and storytelling (I def perfer his hate steming towards Vegeta & his father over Goku like the OG Broly). The fight scenes are intense and animated beautifully. Each moment feels impactful, and the soundtrack hits the moments hard. Dra…

An idea that, at first glance, seemed completely unnecessary—but ended up becoming one of the franchise's greatest successes. When Broly's return was announced, my initial reaction was one of distrust. After the first classic film, which is still fondly remembered today, the character's other appearances were, at the very least, questionable. The repetition of the formula, the superficiality of the script, and the lack of development made Broly almost a caricature of what he could have been. Therefore, I confess I received the news with a certain prejudice. Fortunately, I was completely wrong. Dragon Ball Super: Broly is a spectacle from beginning to end. Unlike Frieza's return, which was awful, Broly's return was carefully planned and very well integrated into the story. It's not just a…

My friend recommended it to me and it’s adorable, especially the way Broly’s character is shown in this movie. The story isn’t completely new, but this version of Broly feels much more unique and emotional, and even though some parts are predictable, I still enjoyed it because I like this kind of setup. The art style fits the movie really well the fights look clean and intense, and the animation gives a lot of life to the characters. Broly actually feels well-rounded here, with real flaws, strengths, and reactions that make him seem more human instead of just unstoppable power. I think a lot of people will enjoy this movie, even if they aren’t huge Dragon Ball fans, because it has great action and a surprisingly heartfelt story.

I just bought this movie on Blu-ray, and I have to say, my money was very well spent. The movie does an incredible job setting up Broly’s past, unlike other Dragon Ball movies, where the villains are very 1 dimensional and one note, Broly is a fleshed out well developed character that we as the audience can genuinely sympathise with. The way he is raised is shown very well throughout the movie usually he is very secluded and quiet, but when he is angered his rage reaches unfathombl grounds. The animation in this movie is also incredible. It is probably the best looking animation in any sort of Dragon Ball content. Unlike in the super anime, where the characters are drawn with lots of detail, making it a lot harder for them to move fluidly. Toei gave the characters really simple designs,…

THE best Dragon Ball movie. Just visually it's the best the series has ever looked with really textured line-work, great coloring and some wonderful new character designs from Naohiro Shintani. Still looks like Dragon Ball, but fresh and more refined and maybe a little simplified to make room for all the amazing animation in this. There's again a bit of 3D animation involved here in a couple sections and it is noticable, but not nearly as distracting or ugly as it was previously, maybe cus FighterZ was out at this point. Was that team involved in this? I'm not sure tbh. This is again much more action focused than Battle of Gods, but unlike Resurrection F this movie has a much stronger storyline at its base. Paragus and Broly were pretty nothing characters in the original Z movie, but thi…

Dragon Ball Super: Broly stands out because it takes a familiar setup, Saiyans clashing in explosive battles, and gives it new depth. The story isn’t unpredictable, but it’s told with enough emotional weight to make it feel fresh. Broly isn’t just a mindless powerhouse; his backstory explains his rage, making him sympathetic instead of one-dimensional. The art style is one of the movie’s strongest assets. Bright colors, smooth animation, and sweeping camera movements make the fights more cinematic than anything seen in the series before. It feels bold, modern, and yet true to Dragon Ball’s roots. Characters are handled well, with strengths and flaws on display. Vegeta’s pride, Goku’s curiosity, and Broly’s instability clash in a way that feels natural. Their reactions to events, whether…

This is a masterpiece. I may not be a major Dragon Ball fan but I can guarantee you this one is gonna be worth your time. The action is well designed and animated. If you're more interested in fights then yeah this ones for you. The storytelling does the job really well. The cast isn't bad if you don't care much. The art style does a nice job and the choreography is peak. Overall, It may not be for everyone but it's pretty good for an action anime. I would say it's worth watching based on the genre it's in. And yeah, THIS ROCKS MY BALLS!

I really enjoyed this movie. It was fun to see everyone again and to see what Super would do with Brolly since I missed those manga chapters. I liked the silly jokes, the added drama to everyone's back story, and how the movie kept things moving. I'm glad this was a movie and not a cour of the anime too because I think that trying to drag it out would be a mistake. That said, I do think there were times things could have been faster in places and slower in others. I think it'd have been kind of fun to explore who Broly is more but that can always happen in other ways. I kind of missed having a larger ensemble that that wouldn't have worked for this movie so I'm glad they didn't do that even though I missed some of my favorite characters. I think that if you like Dragon Ball Super or th…

Going into this movie I had almost zero knowledge around Dragon Ball besides its main characters. Proving that you need not know quite literally anything about Dragon Ball and you'll still heavily enjoy this thrill ride. Nevertheless the movie didn't have to do much explaining for me to understand everything that was going on and delivered on being extremely hype. The best part of this movie hands down goes to the cinematography. Absolutely had a blast watching this movie and could recommend it to anyone that loves a good action movie. No complaints at all, never bored, never confused, never disappointed.

coming back to this years later to say this movie is pretty shit. this style of fireworks lightshow action doesnt work well for dragon ball at all, not to mention it ruins broly's character by turning him into a "goodest boy" fanfiction pet dog. broly from Z was way cooler. before he transformed he was a creep who walked around in a constant trance, and after he transformed he took on all the Z fighters at the same time without flinching and killed his own father. he felt like legitimate threat. broly in this movie? the guys take turns fighting him and let frieza get knocked around for a bit while they learn how to fuse. doesn't feel like a real threat. and the biggest offense: the backgrounds. the Z movies were so great bc we got to see our favourite characters doing action over cool…

GOGETA! GOGETA! GOGETA! GO BROLY GO GO! GO BROLY GO GO! With banger music like this, how could you not enjoy Dragon Ball Super Broly! In all seriousness, Dragon Ball Super Broly is the best DBZ movie with gorgeous animation, perfect blend of CGI, and a rewarding 40-minute fight scene packed with intensity from the start. Unfortunately, the movie rehashes a storyline many DBZ fans already experienced, just tinkered a bit to fit the current era of Super. That being said, trudging along through the prologue is worth it from the first minute of the fighting onward. A must watch for any Dragon Ball fan. Animation 10/10 - Crisp animation, with a great blend of CGI, smooth use of camera perspective. Sound 10/10 - The sound design is on point during the fight scene, the quality is insane, but Pan…

Okk.... The movie is pritty wild. Can't quite remember what was DBZ Brolly exactly like, I'll need to re-watch it to see which one's better. But... Some part of my memory is telling me that this one's better. Story is kinda wild. We see that there are some real life harshness put into it. Besides that there are a couple of good laughs too. Animation in this movie is pritty good, somewhat you can say it's the same as Dragon Ball Super. Battle scenes are wild to be honest, cold turning hot instantaneously. I definitely recommend that you spend 90+ minutes of your life to watch this.

I'm not a DBS fan, but goddamn this film was good. This film was so good that it made me consider to actually continue watching DBS and catch up to the latest episodes (P.S I tried watching it but instantly dropped it after watching like 10 episodes). Almost everything about this film was perfect. The animation is GOD tier (I wish the actual series actually had this animation quality), and the fight scenes is just *chef's kiss*. I definitely recommend this film to Dragon Ball fans that haven't watched it yet, and even if you don't watch Dragon Ball, you can still enjoy this film— in fact, this film might even get you hooked up to the DB franchise. Anyways, this film is a solid 9/10, definitely my fav Dragon Ball movie of all time.

If I had the pleasure to know Akira Toriyama in person, first of all I would say thanks to him for give me one (if not the best) thing in my childhood, and second I would ask him gently: WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO WITH THIS THINGS?!?! I am a lover of the dragon ball universe and almost every Akira Toriyama work, but I am also intrigued of what is he trying to do with this bad as hell movies and animes. The movie not only change the whole Broly story but besides that it is so badly animated, that it is hard to believe that it is made in 2019. In top of all that (for me) it lost the Dragon Ball spirit, it was just fights and a lot of fanservice and political correct acts, that is not what Dragon Ball is supposed to be. To be honest at the end of the movie I was just sad and disappointed,…

As somebody who has been a fan of the Dragon Ball franchise for many years, I can say only "wow!" after finishing watching this movie. It was one of the best, if not the best, piece of the Dragon Ball media I have ever seen, linking what was great in the past (during Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z era) with the finest elements offered by the newest installment of the Dragon Ball series (Dragon Ball Super). The story is truly special, as it harmonizes oldschool elements with newschool forms of writing. If we sum up all themes appearing in the movie and how they appear like, we get an image of possibly the best scenario among all Dragon Ball movies. Of course, the scenario is very good, but we mustn't forget about marvelous direction that made the whole story not only well-told, but well-pac…

I grew up with Dragon Ball and always thought a lot about the universe it takes place in and wanted to learn more. To see Saiyan society in the beginning, Frieza taking over what would be his Frieza Force, and also the introduction of the scouters was incredible. I feel there was more narrative and world-building in this one introductory segment then there has been in entire arcs of DBZ. Not that there's anything wrong with show don't tell, but it was such a refreshing change of pace to see a more plot-driven Dragon Ball. This may or may not have been taken straight from the Dragon Ball Minus manga, I don't know since I didn't read it, was still great to see animated; even as something as supplemental as Saiyan civilians. Of course having seen the original Broly movie I know the kind of s…

Dragon Ball Super: Broly manages to include everything I love about Dragon Ball in its 100-minute runtime while also telling one of the series’ best stories so far. Throw in a new, jaw-droppingly gorgeous animation style, “growth” from Dragon Ball’s most iconic villain, some new supporting cast members, big laughs, the first canonical appearance of a fan-favorite character, and you’ve got a movie that’s sure to please fans of the legendary manga and anime. The story is set within three different points in time: the first two are over thirty years before the ending of Dragon Ball Super, delving into the past of the Sayain homeworld, and the third takes place shortly after the conclusion of Super’s final arc. The earlier segments retcon a bit of the series’ history, introduce the tragic vil…

I will refer to Z Broli as Broli and Super's Broly as Broly in this review. I don't get it. This is just an inferior version of the old Broli movie. Paragus was allowed to escape with his son without consequences unless you count him being stuck on that planet with giant bugs and crabs. Meanwhile the old Broli movie had some tragic imagery and irony what made it feel deep storytelling wise and fun to watch. Also when it comes to powers, the power of the original Broli feels more believable. He was the legendary Super Saiyan as it was described by Vegeta and we have seen justification for his power during the run in the movie. He was destroying a galaxy as he was introduced. Thus he felt like an actual threat to Goku and co. Meanwhile DBS' Broly just beat up oversized insects and aquat…

9/10: Dragon Ball Super: Broly is absolute proof that Dragon Ball is a bad anime. To put it simply, DBS Broly did more in 100 minutes than the anime could do in two season's worth of episodes. The animations, the fights, the relentless speed at which the story progresses once it gets going, it outshines the rest of the series by far. The fight scenes encompass 40 minutes of the film, and they're remarkably good. Very little of the empty meaningless vanish/clash/repeat fighting that makes up the majority of the anime, every attack is unique. Some of the supers were mesmerizing and fantastic, the best I've seen from this franchise. The pacing is fantastic, over the course of what would be about four episodes of anime, an entire arc is finished, beginning middle end. After slogging through th…
