“Battle of Gods” The title promises a lot, but the film delivers very little. Most of the runtime feels like hype built around a fight that plays out more like a training session, with no real impact behind it. The early dismissal of Super Saiyan 3 feels like a disrespect to such an iconic transformation, thrown aside just to serve as a stepping stone for Beerus. The attempt to bring back the series’ original spirit feels artificial. The story doesn’t really excite, Beerus feels more annoying than threatening at times, and both Goku and Vegeta come off as caricatures of themselves. What saves it is the animation and a few solid fight sequences with decent choreography. Overall, it’s a weak return for such a massive franchise.

The Grand Return of Dragon Ball After Years Without New Releases This film marks the long-awaited return of Dragon Ball after a long period without new content. Naturally, the hype was sky-high: old and new fans alike were eager for something new from the franchise, which helps explain the high ratings the film received at the time of its release. Expectations were enormous, and in many ways, the film manages to live up to them. Story The story disregards the final episodes of Dragon Ball Z (where Uub appears), functioning as a direct continuation of Z. To do this, the film makes some important retcons that alter previously established concepts. Although this bothers some of the audience, I see these retcons in a positive light, as they allow for a gigantic expansion of the Dragon Ball…

This is still one of the best Dragon Ball films. Just by virtue of not being made mostly as promotion for the anime and just as an actual movie it's such a big step up from the old Z movies. The bigger runtime allows for a lot more fun slice-of-life stuff which is some of the best moments in the movie. The art style has kind of a sterile look I don't love for Dragon Ball, though it is much worse in Super. But the animation is still pretty great and the final battle is real good (even with some shoddy experimentation with 3D that doesn't pay off lol). Great, super fun Dragon Ball goodness. Also… just as a side-note for the series in general, not just this movie. You guys HAVE to drop the Trunks and Mai thing, it's DIRE. It's a fun gag at first, but it feels like they just started taking it…

Just re watched what is considered by many (including myself) to be the greatest film in the entire Dragon Ball franchise. I just bought this on DVD that includes the theatrical and extended cut just a few hours ago as I am writing this. (Money worth spent) I've never really heard anybody explain why it is the greatest film in the franchise so I'll explain why myself. First of all the pacing in this movie is really tight, especially for something from Dragon Ball. The premise is really well thought out, and the buildup to Beerus is really felt throughout the movie, where we see the kais and vegeta cower in fear to the thought of Beerus. The amount of build up towards Beerus then rewards us with one of the best fights in the entire series, (from an animation and chorography perspective)…

As expected from Dragon Ball, the movie is amazing, the relationship of the characters, the battles they gave us in this movie, they all just made me excited, The development of the plot is just too good, people may find the movie a bit distressing, but chances are you will like it usually I'm a person who doesn't like movies but I enjoyed every second, the movie is built just amazing, I recommend everyone to watch the movie and after that watch the episode 14 and up of Dragon Ball Super, This will shorten the whole plot to a master piece 9.5/10 easy.

This is not Dragon Ball. This is a poorly written disgrace with dry ass jokes and boring fights that does not even know its characters. You will notice that our beloved main character for instants acts completely different besides his eating habits and lust for battle. Goku underestimates his opponents in the first confrontation and at the end he even bends over to the badguy. Vegeta is a punk ass bitch to Bills who also bends over. The way they tried to introduce Super Saiyan God was poorly done. What was it? It appeared in the dream on some oversensitive destroyer god and it has to be true because some fish who isn't even sure himself said so. Remember when Super Saiyan God appeared in the Future Timeline? You don't? Neither do I. The entire prophecy is a plot hole. The God comes out…

I don't know about you, but I am falling asleep everytime I see this movie. So this time I tried to pay attention and well... this new antagonist Beerus or Billus has been sleeping all this time during the story and never get involved in the issues of the universe. Just happened to dream about Super Saiyan God which happened to be a reason he came to earth. It kinda feels weird especially with Broly existing now that of all places he only visited earth and happened to be stronger than anyone our characters faced so far. Goku also felt out of character this movie. When was the last time Goku underestimated any enemy and offered to hold back? Beevus turned him into his bitch like many characters will be in this movie. Don't fuck with the GOD OF DESTRUCTION. The gags also dragged down a lo…

Watching Dragon Ball Battle of Gods for the first time in almost 10 years is kind of weird, I remember being so hyped up for the movie and remember being so let down by it, but watching it again, it was...alright. In some ways it's the best DB movie ever made by that point. Beerus did have more character than most DB movie villains who most of them just wanted to rule the world or kill Goku because reasons, and they did do a decent job at building him up as a threat in typical DB fashion of excessively using the worf effect but that's what defined the series so I am fine with it. It is rather amusing how much they played on the whole, "DB villain blowing up the planet when they are pissed" by having the literal God of Destruction get angry over not eating pudding. It was dumb to me years…

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is a simple but effective movie that sets up the future of the franchise. Using the backdrop of Bulma's birthday as a setting, a whimsical destroyer God comes to Earth, seeking the Super Saiyan God of legend. The story isn't winning points for inspiration, but the comedy and lore are enough to leave you entertained. By the way, I watched this movie in the uncut Japanese dub with subtitles for the most accurate translation. The performance by the voice actors was top notch. There's some great animation when the fighting kicks off, and this adds to the appeal of the movie, as the entirety of Dragon Ball is just one big action scene anyway. The sound effects are striking and impactful, immersing you in the battle. I recommend this movie for people that have a…

Around the time I was getting back into anime, 2016 or so, I remembered that there had been a new Dragon Ball movie released recently with some new Super Saiyan transformation. I remember rolling my eyes at the time, thinking of GT and all the Dragon Ball AF parodies, where new transformations and Super Saiyan 5, 6 and whatever were all being made fun of. I figured I'd give the movie a try at least, I had just watched One Punch Man and was maybe feeling a little nostalgic for good old Dragon Ball. I was pleasantly surprised that they managed to make this movie not terrible. Akira Toriyama's new art style with all the rounded faces is a little weird to get used to and the plot still reads a bit like fan-fiction, which it kind of is if you think about it, but I kind of liked Beerus as a cha…

Note: This is a review of the "tokubetsuban" version with 20 minutes of additional footage, this is the definitive version. Pitched as the first "canon" elaboration on the finale of the manga, Battle of Gods marks the transition of the franchise from the long completed "Z" era, to the (at the time of release unnamed) "Super" era. With that in mind, a lot of the future of the franchise hinges on this film, and i'm happy to say Battle of Gods "gets" Dragon Ball. Time has been good to Akira Toriyama. Gone is the rushed, seat of your pants energy that permeated the last arc and a half, and instead we arrive at a unique good natured tone that feels at home with the early parts of the manga, without distracting from the story or devaluing the characters like some of the comedic choices in the B…

This film was the start of a shift in the series. It went from being one that was focused on the frantic task of having to save the world, to one built around the pursuit of power. It takes everything you know about the Dragon Ball world and turns it on its head, completely changing the Dragon Ball series forever. It was the start of a new era. The most redeeming thing about this film is that even while it is trying to create this situation where you know the world is in this constant state of danger because of the nature of Beerus, it doesn't ever forget to keep the tone lighthearted at times. It has strong uses of comedy in order to keep it from feeling heavy like DBZ did throughout the series. This is a shift in modern shows. Even though you know there is potential imminent destruction…

Dragon Ball Z Movie 14: Kami to Kami How much can you cannibalize a franchise? Toriyama shows us this and more with his ongoing films and the new DB Super Series. Even if I have to admit that the latest Broly movie was quite a surprise. However, this is about the film in which the new setting and concept of Dragon Ball are presented. Together with the showpiece "Beerus, God of Destruction" and the angels. In terms of content, this film only has to offer music and animation, it is easy on the eye. But it was that too. The whole subject is a blow to the eye. The gods, "Saijayin God", the pure souls, everything is just pulled up by the hair. This should have been marketed as an alternate story, like DB GT. Instead, they were added to the canon without context and there we have the salad.…

15 years after GT, Toriyama decided that he wasn’t making enough money from all the poorly created videogames, card games, and countless types of merchandise that were constantly being produced based on his badly written franchise. So, he officially labeled GT to be not canon, and that Super is the real sequel, in effect rendering worthless terabytes of fan fiction and fan art. He still hired Toyotaro as his best imitator and the one doing all the drawing, since he couldn’t be bothered to draw as he used to. The result was a lifeless continuation that could no longer excuse itself being bad because Toriyama was not part of it. It was also not really a continuation, since that would demand a new story with new characters, in order to start fresh and avoid all the inconsistencies that piled…

Dang this is some mediocre stuff. On one hand, I can excuse a lot of the nostalgia-baiting where they are forced to bring back the entire cast and make everyone have their little moments; other than the obscure and pretty bad Yo! Son Goku Returns! special, this is the first new piece of Dragon Ball media since Dragon Ball GT ended in 1997, and there's a lot of catching up to do with everyone. It causes a lot of bloat in classic Marvel style, but it was probably a necessary problem. This is most definitely a filler movie, but one that works kinda as a pilot for what comes next (the TV show Dragon Ball Super in this case). On the other hand, after 13 other DBZ movies that were all 40-70 minutes long, this one comes out of nowhere to be 105 minutes, and does NOT have the plot to make up fo…

For the record, this from the perspective of a guy who finished the entire Dragon Ball manga yesterday, as of the writing of this review, then decided to jump onto this movie and is planning to watch Super. Good? Good. Also, spoilers. To start with the story, I loved it: Beerus, God of Destruction coming down to earth to look for the sexy man in his dreams so they can fight for the sole reason of him getting some excitement in his boring life as he strongest thing in the 7th Universe. Thing is, Dragon Ball has never been about the super-complicated stories that are necessarily gonna make you think too much. ESPECIALLY in the Z movies; those sons of bitches aren't needed, except for this one and the 15th, I guess. I'll give the story a 9/10, 'cause it introduces the already seemingly concl…

DBZ: The Fanfiction. After laughing my ass off to some TFS's parodies, I thought, maybe this new turd from said franchise that supports itself via fanwanks and merchandizing, was also some sort of parody - it just had to be! After a good doze of vodka, I watched it, and... Excuse me, my brain seems to be little broken, right about here. I have no comprehention for this! This had to be a pardoy. A joke. A hoodwig! Something, that one should find, only by stumbling in to some really dier, and some really, really stupid fanfiction - like if Naruto and Sasuke did the fusion-dance! Because, that's how this movie felt... every single flipping second of it! Some stupid, stupid fanfiction about Carrot becoming a God, because Toriyama is clearly at this point writing himself being a Carrot himse…

I didn't have the highest of hopes after watching past Dragon Ball movies since they are quite nonsensical and non-canon but Battle of Gods changed this and gives new life to a staple of the Anime industry. The amount of fan-service in this movie is godly. You even have pilaf and crew making an appearance. The humour is certainly strong in this movie, it's very comical and brings back memories of the original Dragon Ball series. We have all our favourite characters and they each get quite a bit of screen time which is unusual for Dragon Ball Z which usually focuses on action and fighting. This movie was a nice mixture of fun and action. The animation is absolutely gorgeous. The budget for this movie was obviously much larger than past movies along with the creativity. The character des…

First off, i'll make it clear that I don't and have not watched Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z, however I know a considerable amount about the show aside from the gritty details, and anything I didn't know I simply asked my friend who was sitting right next to me. That said, the fact that I haven't watched DBZ didn't affect my enjoyment at all as you can see by the score I gave. Dragon Ball Z: Kami to Kami a.k.a Battle of the God's is an original story written by Akira Toriyama as apart of the Dragon Ball canon storyline. Right off the bat the fact that this film IS canon makes it more interesting to me, and the movie did such a good job of using the canon appropriately, introducing a new character; Beerus the Destroyer, as well as forwardly expanding the story with some things I won't spoi…
