Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works

Introduction

In Fuyuki City, the Fifth Holy Grail War is about to commence a lengthy battle of blood, death, and misery. High school student Rin Toosaka has trained her entire life for this moment—to become a magus capable of being a Master in the war. Summoning her Servant known as Archer, Rin finally sets foot into the battle. Discovering that one of her acquaintances, Shirou Emiya, is drawn into the war as well, Rin offers to form an alliance for the time being. And as the two of them grow closer, Rin begins to learn more about Shirou's fate and ideals. Nevertheless, her goal remains the same: to win the all-powerful relic that can fulfill the wishes of those who are victorious after the war—the Holy Grail. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

If only... This movie version has a wonderful production. The soundtrack is unarguably another great job by Kenji Kawai, delivering a good mix of epic and beautiful tracks. The animation has a good quality for its time, with a visual style close to that of the visual novel, a beautiful lighting style and no annoying excessive usage of CGI as in many modern animes. Many battle sequences are magnificently directed. Tohsaka's tsundere, bold and youthful personality is depicted accurately. Fun and slice of life moments are also depicted correctly. However, a movie was not a good choice to summarize the story. The pacing is rushed, skips many explanations, and it barely gives time to enjoy the characters, their relationships and actions. It was made for those who read the novel first (conside…

Fate/Stay Night Movie: Unlimited Blade Works, as a standalone movie is a decent enough watch, the animation quality is good, the OST is well suited to what is happening at the time, the story itself feels as though at times, it expects the audience to have prior knowledge of certain elements or characters. While the major characters are decently developed, there are characters that feel as though they should have been more noteworthy, but are rapidly dismissed moments later. Regarding this movie personally I find it enjoyable and can recommend it if you want a decent watch, but not fully delve into the Fate/ Franchise, but you would certainly get more out of having either played the original Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel, at a minimum the Fate Route of the game, if you have not played the…

After years of enjoying Ufotable’s Unlimited Blade Works and watching nearly the entire Fate series, I finally went back to watch Studio Deen’s version of UBW, and honestly, I’m left wondering what the point of it was. It barely qualifies as a proper movie; it feels more like a rushed recap than a legitimate adaptation. The pacing is a major issue: Trying to compress a story that Ufotable told over 24 episodes into under two hours just doesn’t work. The result is a chaotic, disjointed mess that skips over nearly every major plot point and focuses almost entirely on fight scenes. The early moments of the story, like Shirou summoning Saber and learning the Holy Grail War rules, were given three full episodes by Ufotable, but here they’re crammed into five minutes with barely any dialogue. S…

I've completed this movie without watched the series version, but i've watched fate/stay night 2006 before. In my opinion, this movie is totally great, their battle scene and plot is more better than 2006. But, i just can give them 8 from 10 because im kinda upset why gilgamesh is defeat when he fight with emiya's hero form, considering gilgamesh is the king of kings (and the oldest kings) and i thinks he will not defeat too easily with future hero. i will more understand if he loses to saber who the strongest king (as it happened on 2006 version ending). Im planned to watch their series version to got more information because this version is really short (if i don't watch the 2006 version before, im pretty sure i will confuse to understand the plot).

Watch the 2014 TV adaptation by studio Ufotable instead. This movie is intended as a companion feature to the 2006 TV anime Fate/Stay Night. Adapting Fate/Stay Night's second route [Unlimited Blade Works], this movie rushes through the story from start to finish. It cuts most of what is redundant from what was shown in the 2006 TV anime, flittering from one key moment to the next. It emphasizes its differences from the [Fate] route and is somehow able to maintain a coherent plotline, despite its runtime. This movie adapts the graveyard fight scene quite well, and the Archer storyline was also delivered faithfully. Thankfully, there aren't any spoilers for the third route [Heaven's Feel], which would have been surprising given how strained for time the movie is. This is actually a surp…

Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] is an intricate and engaging story that captivated audiences through its extended television series. As someone who revisits and reviews anime on MyAnimeList, it's evident that the attempt to distill this rich narrative into a single movie has resulted in a lackluster experience. With a rating of 3/10, the Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Movie struggles to capture the essence of the source material and falls short of the series' brilliance. One of the fundamental issues with the movie is the overwhelming sense of cramming. In an attempt to fit what the 25-episode series painstakingly built over time into a mere hour and 20 minutes, the movie sacrifices the intricate character development, world-building, and emotional arcs that defined the s…

This review will once again from a Visual Novel player. [ Minor Spoiler ahead ] The movie adaptation is just horrible. You can't even call this a summary, because 75% of Shirou's monologues and voice lines are cut. This is not a good starter for a first timer watcher. I can't really amass my dissatisfaction after finishing the movie. The only scene I liked from the movie is the Shirou vs Archer, other than that all of it are completely dumpsterfire. PLEASE IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THE FATE UBW ROUTE AS AN ANIME ONLY WATCHER AND IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME. WATCH THE UFOTABLE UBW ADAPTAION. ALTHOUGH THE VN IS STILL SUPERIOR, THE UFOTABLE ADAPTATION IS FAR FAR FAR BETTER THAN THIS.

They should've restructured the show for the movie instead they made a summary of the show with minor changes. Animation and fighting are fun to watch. Other than that there is nothing special here. The TV show is far better than this. It's only for people who are familiar with every character. It lacks character development and there is no storytelling or narrative. It feels like a compilation of random events. It does not feel like a movie at all. nobody should watch this at the cinema because this thing has nothing to do with the cinema. Waste of time. Not recommended.

This review contains a SPOILER. This is just Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Work (both seasons) made into a movie with the older art style. I'm telling you, it's literally the same story but just made into a movie. I don't know why this exists, but it's useless. If there's already a movie or TV series about the same story, why make a copy of it in a different type? So that people could watch this movie instead of the TV series because it's shorter? I didn't know it was going to be the same, so I completely wasted my time watching it. Plus they killed Illya in this one too.

As-salamu alaykum i merely write reviews some time. as a result my reviews are short and express everything in one time. But ill try my best fill you everything i can. Start with story, many of seen it and very difficult to understand that changing of story and make it so heartless story line and Shirou couldn't save every as he did in Fate/stay night. I think maybe cause of Archer decided to kill Shirou. We already heard Archer is Shirou Emiya Future self that will became hero some day. Archer objective here to kill Shirou Emiya order to change the fate of his own. that means it not the recap of Fate/stay night. it is just another story about the same character. So archer back story is Fate/stay night and fate/stay night movie about another route where Shirou future self means Archer tr…

I'm really disappointed by this movie! First of all, I'm a huge fan of the "Fate" franchise and have watched "Fate/Zero" and "Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works" the anime and am currently watching "Fate/EXTRA Last Encore", but this movie really is bad. The worst thing is, that it feels like a summary of the anime, but without all the important scenes to understand the story. Don't get me wrong here, the visuals are outstanding (Like you'd expect it from the "Fate" franchise), but I don't see any reason to watch this movie! This is also the reason I didn't enjoy it and giving it only a 1. To make this clearer: If you watched the anime, then there's no need to watch this movie, since it's the exact same scenes, just cut together with important scenes cut out so it fits into movie lengt…

The only Fate Stay Night anime I have watched is the original 2006 version which I really enjoyed. I know that this movie is based on the anime of the same name, which I will also watch however, as a stand alone movie, it was shitty. I find anime movies based off a series are usually just a really long summary of the anime and as a summary this sucked pretty bad. I usually never watch anime movies based off an actual anime because most of the time they tend to be just summaries. This is where I would rather have a filler anime movie instead of a whole retelling of the story in movie format. It's just pointless and a waste of money and resources. I love Studio Ghibli movies so much more, because the movies are originals, they don’t just hash out the same material even if they have a sourc…

UBW movie is a wreck, and if you're one of the few people that didn't know that, now you do. What makes it a wreck? - It's an adaptation of about 15-20 hours long route in a VN. You probably already understand what that implies. Cuts are out of control, to the point where by the end of the movie I couldn't understand what the hell happened despite knowing story of UBW quite well. That's because movie chaotically jumps from fight to fight to get in all the action bits, throwing out a lot of the exposition. Spoiler ahead: my personal favorite is when after first encounter with Shinji and Rider they run away from school while Shirou and Rin go back to their classroom and discover Shinji scared shitless, with Rider lying dead on the floor. Good job DEEN. - Bad animation and art. It look…

After reading the reviews I still couldnt find anything absolutely wrong with this movie. People complained that it was too reliant on the anime and game but it is a movie based on it so what else can you expect. STORY: The concept was really interesting. This movie was mainly centered around Archer and could be told also by the title of it "Unlimited blades work", which is Archer's power. People complained that there isnt much explanation but its a movie, they cant break down everything like an anime because it would be boring and a waste of time. The movie had great action scenes and the twist was great. I loved how it sums up the anime and really shows Archer's true power. This movie honestly wouldnt make sense and need explanations for people who NEVER seen the anime, played the game,…

Some guy: Hey Billy, Our cash cows are getting hungry and most of them are dying. Hurry up and finish that TV series already Billy: We're not done yet. We're still animating the show and the voice actors are not done yet. Some guy: Goddammit, we need more cash for the cash cows NOW! Billy: How about making a movie based on "Unlimited Blade Works"? Some guy: Huh? Billy: We'll just cut some scenes and cram it all in a 90 min. movie. This should give us more cash. Some guy: Great idea! Billy, I'm promoting you to "Money Whore Executive". Story: (3/10) The movie is set in Fyuuki City where the 5th Holy Grail War is taking place. 7 masters are randomly picked and they summon a being called a "Servant". Servants are real life heroes from the past turned into a heroic spirit. They are summoned t…

Who is this for? Why was this even attempted?! Who the hell thought cramming 30 hours of story into a 90 minute movie was a great idea?! This "movie" is a disaster! If you have never heard of fate, you will be lost in this incomprehensible mess. If you have seen fate stay night by DEEN, the first third of the movie is a boring recap, the twists in the second act will be rubbish to you and in the third act... you will have an embarrassingly hilarious final fight and instead of a CG dragon you will get a CG dolphin. If you have read the visual novel, you will probably hate it the most, especially when there is a superior adaptation by ufotable you should watch instead. To sum this up (in case you don't want to read about me tearing this to shreds): this is a shiny pointless piece of crap t…

This movie is a mess whether you've seen the original series or not. It starts out rushing to introduce multiple characters with fight after without any context. Each fight has many dramatic twists and turns but as an audience you're left wondering who you want to win or why the fight is happening anyway. Even the overall story has no history to tell you why anyone is fighting for the holy grail, which turns out to be an odd pile of goo. The only real positives are the general character designs and the slightly greater focus on Rin, who I always thought was more interesting than Shiro. Don't waste your time or money on this.

I am a fan of Fate/Stay Night and the Fate series in general, but in my opinion, this movie is quite bad. Let's start with the good points though. Art: The artwork in this movie is quite nice. It's more or less what I expect out of Studio DEEN and all of the fight scenes are animated quite spectacularly. Each fight is full of light and particle effects, and it really is one of the few enjoyable parts of this movie. Sound: The soundtrack of this movie is pretty standard. The music was there, and I noticed it was there. It didn't make me cringe, but at the same time, it didn't particularly stand out. The only reason I rate it higher than 5, is because I sort of liked the voice acting. Story & Character: This is where the entire trainwreck is. The plot makes absolutely no sense. At all. No…

You know, after watching the series of the same name, I would never think it would continue or developed to be such a big franchise. However, the ending of the series didn’t quite satisfy some folks or that it went some confused and/or dazed (I was just confused some of the time in this show) but luckily after 3-4 years when the series ran in 2006, there was a movie adaptation coming to the fray in 2010 in Japan, but I didn’t know if it was one of those compilation movies where they just put scenes from the show and make it different somehow. Shirou Emiya finds himself an unwilling participant in a deadly competition where seven Mages summon heroic spirits as servants to duel each other to the death. They compete for the chance to make a wish from the Holy Grail, which has the power to gra…

I watched Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero's first season before and enjoyed both a lot, so I had really high expectations before watching Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. The Story and art are good. However, there is a little problem with the characters. Since the movie is only one hour and forty minutes, it fails to portray its characters in depth. Everything is happening as if in a rush. Perhaps if overall duration of the movie were longer, it could bring more depth to the characters. But still I enjoyed it and believe that everyone who watched TV series of Fate/Stay Night should give it a try!
