Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk

Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk

Introduction

For Ibuki Tonami, drinking alcohol is her favorite way to unwind from her college studies and duties as her dormitory's resident assistant. However, due to past bad experiences with others, Ibuki feels insecure about the hiccups she gets when drinking and therefore only drinks alone. But as first-year student Botan Kamiina moves into the same dormitory, things begin to change. During an outing with their dormmates, Botan coincidentally spots Ibuki drinking by herself. Although she has never tried alcohol before, Botan is curious about Ibuki and her drink. Ibuki willingly shares her drink, and it turns out that drinking alcohol turns the usually well-mannered, cheerful Botan into an assertive flirt. The other residents of their dormitory are shocked to discover that the withdrawn Ibuki has started drinking with Botan. Every new drink Botan tries becomes a fond memory, and she hopes to gradually break Ibuki out of her shell so that the two can enjoy drinks with the others one day. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My feelings about this anime are a bit torn. There are definitely cute girls, and they are doing cute things, but that theme seems at odds with them being a group of engineers in college that are into drinking, philosophy, and vinyls. Visually the show is fantastic and it is a pretty cozy cgdct. If you're looking for something cute to kill some time then this will be a good watch. The fixation on alcohol just makes it feel a little weird. I understand having a theme, and wanting it to feel unique, it just misses the mark for me. Along with the alcoholism the author ends up trying to do 3 things at once; showcasing alcohol, cute girls, and a bit of romance. It's too much hopping around without enough focus on one thing to really excel in a single 12 episode run. It simply wasn't satisfying.…

Despite the art style sometimes resembling crayon drawings, I liked it. This helped to set the mood for this particular anime. The characters were well developed, each having a unique style, personality and quirk. However, for me, the show failed to create something special. We barely get to know the characters on a deeper level. The main focus is drinking alcohol, but we don't learn much more about the drinks or the characters' motivations. From a CGDCT standpoint, it could have been cuter, like K-On! and Non Non Biyori, or more interesting and specialised, like New Game!, Yuru Camp, and Girls und Panzer. From an adult standpoint, it could have delved deeper into motivations, conflicts and challenges, like Death Parade, Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii or Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara. Sadly,…

When other yuri work is till pulling "we're just best friends" bullshit, this one does not bother pretending, It throws all the suggestive scenes right in your face. In some way, the emotional entanglement, ambiguity, push and pull, and confrontation of relationship are so realistic that it became uncomfortable to watch. The way the romance develop is quite unique. It tastes sweet at the beginning, but before you can realize it turned bitter and spicy, just like alcohol, the main theme of the anime. The hidden narrative in the ending theme song is interesting as well. At the second half of the anime I felt the emotional foundation shaky, but realistic as it is, it is unnecessary to judge it using my usual standards of anime romance.

So I finally got around to watching Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk after seeing it get quite a lot of praise, and well it ended up surprising me but also simultaneously disappointing me a little bit. Now I still enjoyed it quite a lot, I just thought I'd end up liking it even more. There's plenty of reasons for that, so let me get right into explaining why. Art Style/Character Designs - 9 Animation/Directing - 9.5 Themes/Romance - 8.5 Characters - 8 Story - 8 Comedy - 8.5 Music/OP/ED - 9 Enjoyment - 8 For starters, the level of creativity in this anime was AMAZING! In the first 3 episodes they changed up the art style which I thought was really interesting and unique, but it did seem to become consistent from episode 4 and beyond. While I'm not sure if the manga changed art style…

Ok, this review will not be long, since this Anime in my Opinion does not deserve a Thoroughly explained review on why i don't like it. Kamiina Botan fully blooms when drunk, is as the name suggests an anime where girls like to drink Alkohol. And that's about it, sadly. First the good parts or parts the anime wasn't too bad Animation: we switched Artstyles a couple of times, and also some shots looked weird, but for the most part the anime looked alright. Some scene's were astonishingly pretty, almost on wallpaper level. But the Wallpaper look sadly couldn't be maintained for the whole 12 episodes. Music: was alright, nothing fancy but the music always fitted the scene, so i have no complaints there. Characters: Only talking about Yaeka, Kanade, Akane and Chin-lan here, cuz th…

I have some connection to this anime, because I watched it with my girlfriend. I liked everything about it, from the characters and art style to the places they visited. Heck, even the cars they drove were great—especially the new-gen Mazda MX-5 that Ibuki drove. The characters are lovable, all of them without exception. They’re all cute, and that similarity to Bocchi the Rock! made it even more likable. I mean, who would hate someone as cute as the band girls, but now they’re drinking alcohol and blushing 24/7? No one. The anime also explained how alcohol is made in a pretty neat and clear way, and there were even a couple of times when it made me want to try drinking them myself. The backgrounds are mesmerizing. My eyes feel blessed whenever I stare at them, which happened quite a lot.…

Originally I sat down expecting this anime to be a regular laid-back iyashikei type anime, one that is easy to watch and relax with after a hard day at work and while that is true for this series, it is also way more eye-catching and astonishing than expected. First and foremost, the art & art direction is so fantastic that I often caught myself pausing the scenes just to fully appreciate the details and compositions. Taken aback by how certain B-rolls have more detail than some other animes do for their entire run. (No shade though!) This is made even more so enthralling and creative by the ample amount of symbolism used. The beautiful and tranquil scenes are furthered embellished by great musical scores that help the viewer get drawn in further into its soothing atmosphere. I found b…

I’ve finally got around to watching Kamiina Botan, and if you want to know how much I loved this anime, let’s just say it’s definitely going into my list of top yuri animes of all time! One of the things that made this anime work for me was its depiction of romantic scenes – none of them were over-dramatic nor did they require misinterpretations or anything too outlandish to happen in real life. All it took was normal stuff happening to make the protagonists realize their feelings toward each other, and that really worked for me because it showed the romance element in a naturalistic light which made it quite endearing! I think Yagate Kimi ni Naru also has a lot of drama elements focusing on the conflict aspect between two people but what amazed me about this series was how everything s…

I'll get straight to the point: somewhere around the middle of the season this show goes from being a cute show about drinking into an absolute cinematic and emotional masterpiece. Botan Kamiina is a show that was clearly written by someone who is in love with a lifestyle full of hiking, nature, art, trendy food, clothing, and most of all: alcohol. If you're the type who loves visiting craft breweries, hiking, talking about film, and going to indie rock shows you'll probably love this anime. Take that recipe and add in some cute girls doing cute things and a heaping side of romantic feelings and you'll have Botan Kamiina. I can honestly say that I haven't seen many anime like this one. It's my first Girls Love show, but other than that the only one I can think of that might come close is…

The sweetness anime I had ever watched. My hearth was melting at every second of it. I never feel so happy and emocional towards a anime before; it felt like I was taking a hot bath in winter in a bathtub full of flowers. Imagine two situations: In the first situation, you are going to your favorite rock band concert, you spend the night celebrating and you feel happy about it. In the second situation, you are going to a spa, you spend the day relaxing and you feel happy about it. Both situations is good, but Kamiina Botan is closer to the second situation, the spa happiness. Keep this is mind if you are expecting to watch a slice of life extremely lively and funny. Kamiina Botan have their comic moments, but predominantly the anime flows into calm waters. The anime captivates not through…

Before you read my review, you must understand that I am not a gay woman but rather a straight man. Does this invalidate my review? Would I be gay if I were a woman? Do I get hard watching girls get it on? The answer to all of these questions is of course yes. It's always been yes; it will never not be yes. Already you can see how this show challenged me as a viewer.  I'm not really a guy who watches yuri for fun; usually I only put it on when it's time to get to business, but I really enjoy anime that have to do with alcohol, so I made the decision to give Botan Kamina a try. I will not lie; I was expecting slop. It was close-minded of me, I know, but you have to remember that I am a dumb straggot boy. From episode 1 I knew my notion was fucked up because this show is an absolute treat t…

This romance show(animated) was made without one overarching director, so every episode had it's own unique and interesting style and cinematography from different people having story boarded all 12 episodes. It also created and interesting draw by hinging on a real world topic, alcohol. Which it goes to explain about in great detail, with someone every episode teaching about a new type or bringing in a new perspective to the taste, creation, and origin to different drinks. It's a really pretty show that creates a unique and informative, while comforting atmosphere. And they're all college students so it's not even weird for them to be doing anything. they use addiction, like alcoholism and smoking is such a cool way to create tensions and connection. And some of the characters are super i…

It starts off as a normal yuri/CGDCT anime but slowly becomes an artistic emotional drama exploring each characters personal struggles. Each episode felt like they had their own artstyle and the eyecatchers were one of the best ones I've seen till now. Literally each and every one of them can be used as wallpapers. The romance as well is kept very mature and not in a silly child-like manner which is very common in most romance animes. Botan's alcohol knowledge also increases as the episodes progress and she's better able to express the drinks in the later ones. This was a hidden gem of this season. Also alternate title should be "Botan Kamiina becomes aggressively yuri when Drunk" 🤣.

If there is one word for Kamiina Botan, it would be beautiful. Okay, on the cover its appears to be a CGDCT anime that is about drinking alcohol. But it is so much more. What makes this anime so great is the characters. Like any anime, of course. Kamiina Botan treats interactions so gently. There are hints of drama here and there, but when it is, it is not given a crazy overreaction. Nothing huge happens. Life goes on. The characters have to deal with their issues face on. And then grow closer to each other. There is this overlying sadness to it, but it reflects life. The show can feel strange in the way that life does sometimes, an atmospheric, slightly sad; yet comforting strangeness. Those moments when life hits different. A note on the style must be made. There is a bit of experimen…

Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk is yet another ambitiously beautiful project from Soigne, the studio behind Mono, and it easily delivers some of the most gorgeous and expressive art styles of the season. The color design and use of abstract imagery deftly convey the wide variety of moods and atmospheres packed into this series, especially those that drift somewhere along the spectrum of relaxation with a vague tension behind it, the character acting is both highly expressive and nuanced and makes the absolute best use of these incredibly cute and often sensual designs, and the background art is by far some of the best I’ve seen in anime period, standing toe-to-toe with the likes of Yama no Susume in terms of keeping my eyes glued to the sheer wonder of the natural world. It even ha…

8/10 - My favorite healing anime of Spring 2026 Here’s why I really loved Kamiina Botan: 1. **Unique animation every episode** The character designs and art style change each episode. It keeps things fresh and shows how much effort Studio Soigne put in. 2. **Best OP & ED of the season** The OP "Mebuku Toki" by yonige is super chill. The ED "Kanjou Glass" is also unique because it’s sung by the characters’ VAs and changes every episode. 3. **Great story & genre balance** It’s tagged as Yuri, but it’s not extreme at all. It’s more about friendship, comfort, and Botan finding herself. Very relaxed slice-of-life with no forced romance. 4. **Kanade is my waifu** She’s voiced by Minako Kotobuki, the same VA as Asuna from Hibike! Euphonium. I was hooked from her first line 😆 5. **Everyt…

Definitely a good watch if you want to escape the cookie cutter tropes of "common" anime. This story really digs into the deep mindset of the 6 girls and their individual personalities, insecurities, coping mechanisms, and the ways they are all connected. The way they keep the Yuri to a subtle and ambiguous approach until the last episodes is a good call by the writers as it is not really the focal point to this story. That spot belongs to the alcohol and how it "opens" the girl's way of interacting for the more uncertain feelings they have with each other. I do like the OP and ED songs as they are pleasant on the ears and the OSTs throughout make a good accompaniment to the story. If there is a thing to say that is in the con category, it might be that it feels a bit open ended and l…

I wasn't expecting to like something like this. Not one bit. But you know what? It's kind of fun! Disclaimer: My view on this series might differ from someone who drinks. As the title suggests, there is a lot of drinking going on here and while it never gets heavy (at all), the fact that I've never consumed alcohol once in my life could change my view, vs someone else's. Story & Characters: Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk introduces us to new college student Botan Kamiina. She is placed in a girl's dorm that features rooms for six residents. They are overseen by their RA, or resident assistant, Ibuki Tonami. Botan quickly meets up with the hot tempered Yaeka and the sometimes-frantic Kanade. They go off to find Ibuki, only to find her drinking on a bench. It's well known that Ibu…

I know nothing about alcohol. I've never had a drink in my life. What really caught my attention was how each episode felt different from the others, especially episode 3. I also noticed a lot of references to different animation studios, like Studio Shaft's classic "head tilt." I like that the romance develops slowly without becoming unbearable. It actually felt pretty realistic in that regard, unlike the vast majority of romance anime where it takes 100 episodes for any progress, and then around episode 105 the misunderstandings, insecurities, and unnecessary drama start and drag on for another 150 episodes. I also appreciated that each episode had an ending song performed by one of the female protagonists. I'm not giving it a 10 because I was hoping for a more conclusive ending.

This is one of those rare adult cast yuri, it also directed very maturely compared to most yuri animes. There's some pacing issues in few episodes, some transition from one into another scene/story might feel abrupt and sudden, but most of the time it wasn't as bad, might be feels awkward if you're not used to, but strangely this pacing issues never happen in earlier episodes, i think it become noticable around mid to end episodes. But we can ignore that because the last episode is beautiful, it's really the cherry on top for this anime, this anime specialize in tension and it more intense in the last episode, also the fact that this anime is rarely shown any explicit actions adds into that mature yuri charm even more (only 1 kiss shown in the entire anime btw). They also have different…
