Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story

Introduction

Rumor has it that if a young girl strikes a bargain with a white fairy, it will grant any wish her heart desires. However, in exchange, she will become a magical girl and must put her life on the line to slay fearsome and ferocious witches. Iroha Tamaki, a kind-hearted middle schooler from Takarazaki City, is living proof that these rumors are true. Armed with a magical crossbow and the ability to heal injuries, Iroha seeks out the labyrinths where witches hide and defeats them before they can prey on humans. Yet Iroha has no memory of her wish, and even Kyuubey, the white fairy himself, seems to have no idea what Iroha requested of him. One day, Iroha hears rumors of a city where "magical girls can be saved," and finds herself on a sunset train to Kamihama City. Unfortunately, she discovers that the witches in Kamihama are far more powerful than usual. After veteran magical girl Yachiyo Nanami is forced to save her, Iroha vows to never return. But when a chance encounter with a tiny Kyuubey seems to trigger distant memories, Iroha is compelled to investigate the mysterious city despite the danger. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

As a big fan of magia record, I'm going to be very critical on this one. This anime seems to be a spin-off talking about madoka series and adaptes the main story of magia record, a gacha game with visual novel type story. This is important because this season is not bad itself, it's a very average writing with a pretty good animation but... That's all. The most sad adaptation I've seen in a while, most of the characters seem plain and their relationships are forced, some of them even feel like they're dumb asf (Iroha), Yachiyo is the 2.0 Homura but worst, they don't even get to know Madoka or Homura unlike in the original story... This isn't acceptable considering most of the characters on the original work are remarkable and interesting, way better than this anime. Also, you're going t…

I just watched this anime for the 3rd time in a week. I was in the hospital and had nothing else to do. I was lightheaded from the morphine, and this was honestly the perfect anime to watch during that period. Why? Because it is gorgeous and confusing. I had to watch it 3 times just to vaguely understand the plot. The plot is so confusing and fastpaced with new characters constantly showing up, you can definitely tell it's a just a big budget ad for a gacha game lol. To both its benefit and detriment, this anime is Studio Shaft at its Shaft-iest. There are so many gorgeous shots and buildings that make absolutely no sense. The visual storytelling is very indirect, and requires a lot of interpretation from the viewer. Because of this, it's really hard to follow what is actually happening…

I would like to begin this by saying that despite taking place in the same universe as Madoka, with the same power system (up till stuff later in the anime), this is absolutely a different anime. If you were expecting the same flavour of surprise and awe from Madoka, you'd likely find yourself amazed with how different it feels. The change in direction felt refreshing and definitely felt like they were trying to go for a new angle. The art, plot, and characters were pretty great. Additionally, I think how the mystery doesn't lean too heavily on Madoka's main plot gives this show a fresh identity. Sure, I think that there are some flaws with the show, overall it is certainly a side story to Madoka. In fact, I wish that we had more of the "slower" moments with the characters, which was somet…

(This is about the first season of the show) This is just a cute Mahou Shoujo anime, it was kinda of generic with nothing a lot about the original Madoka Magica, it's just a 7/10 because of the character interactions and good animation but just because of a specific arc that happens on episodes 9 and 10 were very good. I would definitely recomend for someone who really wants new content of PMMM just go into it not expecting Madoka or Homura having an existencial crysis like the original show because of the more light story without anything coming close to the original's quality. In the end of the day it's understandable if someone dislike it because of the lack of the original show references or even... anything, but it's just average with one good arc.

It's always unfortunate when an adaptation falls short, since it does a disservice to the fans as well as the original property. An anime adaptation of the mobile game of the same name, this anime is blessed with the surreal visuals of the original Madoka anime and held back by its hasty approach to adapting its property's story. Tamaki Iroha is a magical girl, which in the Madokaverse means she's a punching bag for the inevitably terrible things that happen when you sign a contract with that white rat Kyuubey. The problem is that Iroha does not remember what her wish was, and Kyuubey does not know what it was either. Then she hears a rumor that magical girls can be saved in a place called Kamihama. She very quickly learns that not only are the witches in Kamihama insanely overpowered, th…

What made Madoka Magica soar was its clever playing with the pre-established tropes of the magical girl genre and how it created characters with depth and complexity that could not exist outside of the story's darker take on the tropes. Magia Record...does not do that. There's nothing wrong with the story, per say, but it's really more like these characters just so happen to be magical girls. It does not focus in on the inherent trauma that is becoming a child who fights monsters and having your emotions exploited for personal gain like its parent series does. And why set a story in the Madoka universe if you're not going to do that? It's moreso just a magical girl story played completely straight that happens to be dark. These girls fight witches, but they don't feel like they're under…

This is a review of seasons 1, 2, and 3 I was wanting to rewatch Madoka Magica since it had been so long since I've seen it. But now that we know a new movie is in the works, I'll probably time my rewatch to be closer to that film's release. So then. What the heck is this thing? It's a non-canon side story based off a mobile game that I have no knowledge or experience with. It's not a sequel to Madoka, nor is it an ideal introduction to the series as a whole. It seems that even diehard Madoka fans don't really care for this show. Can't say I have much to praise about it, either. While it still boasts the signature visual and audio style of Madoka, aka some of the absolute best music and visuals I've ever bore witness to in an anime, I just can't bring myself to get attached to this parall…

season 1 of magia record was ALOT. there was an entirely new setting, a new cast of characters, a group of magical girls called magius. based off on the mobile game magia record, the anime tries to write an enitrely new story where this timeline will fail. all of the characters are fucking amazing. they all get their own arcs, yachiyo is gay with iroha. (which is wierd, iroha is only 15) magia record expands on the world that madoka magica introduced, there's groups of magical girls, an entire city full of them. a god damn boarding house that yachiyo owns to live with her team mates. there is alot going, but at the same time it doesn't feel cramped or unfocused. the show really just focuses on the main cast. SNAA, felicia, yachiyo, iroha, and tsuruno. the characters are endearing as fuck,…

Going into this show I was a bit worried due to its significantly lower rating than the original show and just the overall thought of them making a side story to milk off the original, and maybe they were to an extent but I think this show actually did pretty well as a side story. The beginning is a bit weird and a little hard to get into but thankfully this is one of those shows that just gets better each episode. That being said this means that the beginning of the show is kinda weak but it posed some interesting mysteries very early on. Characters are almost universally a step down from the original but that show has some of the best written characters I've ever seen so it was unfortunately expected. That being said these characters are likeable and I absolutely love Yachiyo's charac…

I was really excited for this when it was first announced. I then watched it weekly, to completion. And then at some point forgot that I'd completed it and watched the whole second back half again, picking up on the last memorable episode, and wondering, "Have I seen this?" It was only on the second time watching the last episode that I could be sure I'd seen the whole show already. The original Puella Magi Madoka Magica is special to me, as I know it is to a lot of anime fans. For me when I think back on the show, what sticks best in my mind was the powerful music and the jaw dropping mixed media elements of the show. I LOVED seeing that combination of master craft juxtaposed with weirdly proportioned character designs and often goofy looking animation of the Magical Girls [which is, I…

The following review is for Magia Record as a whole, taking into account all 3 seasons. What exactly is it that makes Madoka Magica so great? Is it the jaw-dropping story? The characters? The premise? The directing? The production quality? I think it is all of these things and Madoka would have never gained its attention if everything didn’t come together so well into one cohesive machine. So does Magia Record deliver on these things to be a good side story to plug into the Madoka Universe? Short answer is: Like 80%, but that final 20% is the writing itself... Long answer: Magia Record looks, sounds and feels like Madoka. SHAFT’S legendary director Shibou’s work oozes out of Magia Record just as well as it does from the original. That sense of mystique and unease that made Madoka so s…

When I first started Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, I wasn't sure why the MAL rating was so low. Everything seemed to be there in the early going and Iroha, our main character, seemed to be going after something that was obtainable. However, unlike its Alternative series, it doesn't answer any questions. I'll be writing this review with the assumption that you've seen Puella Magi Madoka Magica beforehand. Story: Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Starts us out with Iroha, who is a magical girl from Takarazaki City. She goes about her life fighting witches and seems to be fine doing it, on her own. However, something feels very off to her - neither her, nor Kyuubey remember what she wished for. Not only that, but she has no memory of a little sister tha…

“Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story” (quite the mouthful) is an anime adaptation by Shaft Studios of a mobile game series based in the Madoka Magica universe. Now I know the regurgitating feeling you must be feeling hearing the word “mobile” and “anime” in the same sentence, but with the word Madoka in the name, it’s a hard series to ignore. In addition, Gen Urobochi was not as involved this time and instead, fresh talent spearheaded the direction and story-telling of the series. Despite all that, I thought to at least give it a try. After all, the key-art looked beautiful and engaging enough to warrant it, with it giving us a beautiful image of stained glass superimposed upon broken glass. The main characters are all depicted, each facing in their own direction and sitting…

Now, this isn’t going to be a very thorough review, I just wanted to point out a couple of things that I think are important. The biggest problem with Magia Record is that it assumes you’ve already played the game. Now, I’m not saying that shows can’t be made fore people who have already played a game, but the way Magia Record is advertised makes it seem like the this anime is self-contained, which it definitely is not. One example of something they don’t bother explaining (at least, not until the end of season 2, I’m pretty sure) is an ability called ‘connect’, which was not seen in the original Madoka Magica series. They don’t bother explaining it, magical girls just randomly use this connect power, and you’re expected to know what’s going on. Another is how the characters just sudden…

Most muggles are just comparing Magia Record to the original Madoka Magica. That is just purely comparing Superman's story and Batman's story in the same universe and say Superman's story is not dark enough because they exist in the same universe. Its just dumb. This is an unjust guideline to judge this amazing anime. They should wake up that Magia Record is Iroha's story and it just happened in one of the endless multiverse the Puella Magi series have to offer, that is if the most of the viewer understands the concept of multiversal storytelling at all. The only lacklustre here is the overly cramped pacing, which even the first arc itself contains multiple sub-arcs that are not well developed. Not only the main character's backstories are cut short, it completely skipped the otherwise in…

First of all keep in mind that if u will compare magia record with the original madoka magica u will never enjoy this anime. So just chill out and enjoy this anime. This anime is fine and not excellent. I think this anime will be more appealing to those who don't like very complicated stories with sad ending.I think it will be more appealing to young teens .Unlike madoka original, magia record is a blend of friendship, flashy magical scenes, cute girly dresses, young girls, fun, cuteness, mystery. They have used the same concepts but there are new additions too.The magical girls have found a way to deal with the curse (truth)of magical girls. In the original series we get to see the negative aspect of being a magical girl but Magia record not only shows a negative aspect but also positive aspect of…

It's hard to adapt a mobile gacha game into a good anime, especially one based on the legendary Madoka Magica series. Magia Record tried its hardest but I believe it falls victim to the story. The show is goddamn beautiful and has some really good character designs but the story failed to keep me interested. Too many things happen at the same time, with seemingly little relevance and impact on the plot. This show feels more like a regular magical girl show with dark elements, rather than the original series' full dive into the dark aspects. The original show had a clear, concise story in 12 episodes that wrapped up every character's arc. Magia Record has too many characters, too many unimportant events, and not enough resolution. Again, due to it being an adaptation of a gacha game. This s…

A Blockbuster Budget to a Gacha Game Display(LR); Last years Magia Record came and went with little fanfare, as someone who recently re-visited the series I decided to watch Record for the first time this week and as my title would suggest I found it to be another brilliant showing of anime industry talent from the now infamous studio shaft but as a narrative to be ultimately held back by it's mobile game source. Lets breeze past the spoiler free section first. The Story - This is definitely the show's weaker area, though not to the extent some have implied. If you know anything of my other work, I judge all media by it's individual merit however if you compare Record to it's parent show you will be disappointed. This is in large point because the two shows aim for alternative methods. Wh…

Magia Record as a series is, in a word, disappointing. It explores many interesting ideas, and the animation and music live up to the original Madoka, but a jarring story and uninteresting characters undermine it. Judged on its own merits, it's a mediocre work. Judged against the high standard of Madoka Magica, it falls horrendously short. Art and Sound: 10/10 and 8/10 They are, in a word, amazing. Every fight scene is beautifully animated and exciting visually and musically. Both the background art and music throughout Kamihama also does a good job bringing the city to life and making it feel as eerie as it's supposed to. The character designs are cute, and the magical girl transformation scenes are well animated. There's really not anything to criticize. Characters: 3/10 The characte…
