Metallic Rouge opens with a beautiful Bladerunner-esque neo-noir aesthetic that immediately had me hooked.
Unfortunately that's completely dropped by episode 2 and we're left with some rather generic sci-fi trappings and a decent story about oppressed minorities.
There's nothing particularly wrong with Metallic Rouge. It's a perfectly decent show. It's got some good visuals, some neat characters, a good story. I don't regret watching it. But there's nothing particularly outstanding about Metallic Rouge either.
Like I mentioned - the first episode really sets a beautiful stage. We open with a flyover that's very reminiscent of Bladerunner before settling into a smoky neo-noir jazz club. We get some world-building. Some mystery. A very cool fight scene. It's great. I was immediately hooke…

I kinda forgot that I had this saved in my Crunchyroll playlist. So, I decided to give this a watch because why not get it out of the way? I kinda wanted to like this since this was a mixed bag for everyone here. I do see why that's the case, yet I do understand what they all mean after going through with this series.
The story takes place in the far future, following a war with aliens known as Usurpers. Humanity has colonized the inner Solar System and coexisted with androids known as Neans, who were created by using technology from another alien race known as Visitors. However, both humanity and Neans don't cooperate with one another since Neans are forced to live as second-class citizens under Asimov's Laws that are programmed into them to be felt subservient. We meet up with our main c…

Quite strange honestly, but I don't think in a bad way. The way in which the themes are presented, the exposition and the revelations are handled feels very "Metal Gear Solid" for me, which made me think that probably this story could have been much better in a videogame.
I understand that most people find it off-putting, but I like that at least sometimes they decide to handle the rhythm differently still the narrative has trouble adapting to this, some parts feel rushed especially seen from the perspective of the Immortal Nine but others just feel like they take too long to arrive like Gene's motivations.
In the overall I didnt love it but I didn't hate it either and I don't think of it as a bad show.

“Metallic Rouge” is what happens when you have “Blade Runner” at home.
This is one of those shows that wants to be deeper and smarter than the writers' skills allow it. That said it’s not a total failure on those fronts, it does come close though. It does touch on some pretty nice, serious and depressing subject in a heavy handed, naive and inorganic exposition heavy sort of way. The plot is a mess that is needlessly convoluted and the scraps of story that there are here are not worth the struggle of going through it.
Before we start I would like to explain something. I will be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same page…
I use the definitions for “plot” and “story” as Lisa Cron…

Look, it's not just Bones essentially trying to stuff all of the ideas for this superhero Blade Runner into one cour, and making a Bee Train level mess with better gloss. It's they had a perfectly good garbage best friend in Naomi, and completely wasted her. It takes effort to make someone loveable who's 1000% trash, and I hate to see it go to waste.
Apparently, they're telling me this needs more text when the core ideas of why this sucks is succintly and fully expressed. LETTERBOXD WOULD HAVE LET ME POST. Anyway, obscure anime Plastic Memories might not be what I'd call a good series, but in the league of 21st century Blade Runner pastiches, it's better than this because it MAKES A CHOICE of what to focus on when it realized it didn't have time for everything. Metalic Rouge still wants…

the Good:
- Brilliant Art Design
- Memorable OST that fits the overall presentation. Great opening/ending.
- Enjoyable and interesting main characters
- Interesting lore and premise of the story
- Quality of animation, frame compositions and action sequences look great
The Bad:
- Although interesting premise, it's a remix of all Cyberpunk/Sci-Fi tropes that we have seen before
- Too many supporting characters who drag throughout the episodes, making the plot difficult to catch up The Ugly:
- The storytelling is a total mess. It is caused by enormous shortcuts to compress the story in 13 episodes. This result in large amount of important information delivered to the viewer in form of exposition heavy dialogues between characters.
- And then followed by many logically flawed events.
- Plot…

Not sure why so much negative reviews, but the show isn't bad, sure, it is no masterpiece, and that might be the point, people that comes to the show expecting a refined plot may be disappointed.
It is a simple premise, a young girl arriving on mars on a secret mission, from there, the viewer will learn more about the world the girl live, her mission and her. While it starts off pretty mysterious, about half way the anime most of the missing plot can be de deducted, which is not enterily bad, nor it is good :) . It aimed at an adult audience, but delivered a more easily digested and not so harsh storyline, even though the world that houses our cast seems to be very hostile.
Visually it is quite good, most of the time the frames are consistent and the battles are nice, I like the whole ar…

Metallic Rouge is an anime that had all the ingredients to become a standout series: a compelling premise, stunning visuals, and the creative backing of Studio Bones. The story follows Rouge, an artificial human, in a futuristic world teeming with rogue androids and high-stakes action. At its core, the series blends elements of cyberpunk with intense action, which initially drew me in with high expectations.
However, as much as I enjoyed the series, it felt unpolished, like a draft version that was rushed into production. The pacing often seemed off, as if the creators were scrambling to fit too much into a limited runtime. As a result, key aspects like character development and world-building felt undercooked. Characters who had the potential to become deeply nuanced and memorable instea…

This was such a mess. The producers got nothing right. Which really sucked, considering they at least had a smidgeon of a good idea. But the execution was hardly stellar, to be kind. I dropped this 3 times before I finally pushed through to the end. In the long run, it certainly wasn't worth the effort.
The artwork was OK. Professionally rendered if not inspired. The animation quality, even the CGI, started off good but nosedived seriously as the series progressed. Some of the action sequences in the middle episodes were on the edge of laughable. It tried to make a comeback in the last couple eps, but it was too little too late. This was just trash, and not even flashy trash.
Rouge as a character is poorly designed. The Power Ranger persona was so cliche. Her human configuration was bet…

This show sucks. Terrible writing, bad choreography, mid animation except for 1 scene where they're just talking for some reason, one note characters with no development, nonsensical story telling, an ending(?) that made 0 sense at all, 4 second actions scenes ever time they fight, lore bits added that do nothing at all ever, bad acting and overall just shit.
Don't bother unless you hate yourself or gotta torture someone while keeping their eyelids open.
I've watched a great deal of anime and this one is just a headache to sit through. I refuse to watch it again or sit through a potential second season. This is my closing statement on the anime Metallic Rouge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw2Rh5JdE54

Watch if: Ghost in the Shell crossed with Naruto sounds appealing to you. Keep in mind, this is not always a good thing.
I found myself enjoying this show more in the second half; the first half felt kinda... episodic: random action, social commentary, and "where are we going with this." The later episodes show just how much was going on behind the curtain, and gave the fighting some context. The last three episodes were pretty, but confusing.
Solid opening theme, good music, varied character designs, some excellent fight choreography, and minimal unnecessary exposition. Others have done it better, but this one held its own.

Metallic Rouge captivates viewers with its intriguing premise, stunning visual beauty, and high-quality animation. The frequent action scenes stand out, surpassing mere visual spectacles, as its intelligent and complex narrative offers a gratifying experience for those seeking depth beyond mere adrenaline. Additionally, the scenes are detailed, consistent, and fluid, challenging the usual standards of computer graphics.
In addition to the electrifying action, Metallic Rouge delves into a variety of profound themes, from the role of machines to existential questions such as the fragility of life, eternity, and the pursuit of freedom. The protagonist, Rouge, is a singular and counterpoint figure, grappling with challenges that defy her own nature.
However, it is important to acknowledge th…

Out of Vivi's fluorite song and this the first one is probably the one with the rounder package. This show still offers a lot of interesting sci fi ideas and ultimately it is sad to see that the studio didn't have the time or budget to flesh out some of the animations. That really takes a dip towards the end of the season.
The rating for this show absolutely surprises me. The story might not be told in the most efficient way but it is an actual story, delivered with great music and actually decent animation when it matters most. Some things i would personally criticize are ceratin .. "coincidences" which stack on top of each other towards the end but it is so little, you can actually just ignore it.
One thing i'll implement here is that i don't like the argument of many reviews about the…

It's going to be hard to explain why I'm never going to be recommending a show that I thoroughly enjoyed, consider fairly solid, and believe exceeds in a lot of areas where most anime fail.
Metallic Rouge has all the makings of an incredible show, it is in theory a love letter to all sci-fi fans. This is the type of show that casually drops a reference to a short sci-fi story written in the 50s called "The Cold Equations" and expects you to get it. Any other show would see that as an absurdly niche thing to reference, but there is a fundamental love for sci-fi that lives and breaths in every corner of this show. It isn't just a sci-fi, it's one that was specifically made for the fans of the genre.
From the designs, the clearly extremely well thoughts out world, to it's debates of moralit…

A hidden gem, could've watched the whole thing in one go if I didn't have to sleep for work. Main point to keep in mind is the show builds upon each EP one after the next, it's best served in 1-3 days so that everything stays relevant and builds up quickly and fresh in your mind. I can see how people seeing 1 ep a week forget everything once the next episode is released and thought it's random and did themselves a disservice. Same analogy as eating 1 grain of rice a week instead of just grabbing a spoonful.
Visually stylish & similar to Akudma drive - story tidbits & world building are really dam interesting and get told similarly to how Durara & Odd Taxi developed. It's got cyberpunk esque vibes in gritty dystopian bladerunner type of settings.
Base scores based on how immersive and int…

Prepare to be immersed in the cosmic symphony of Metalic Rouge – an anime experience that combines god-like OST, a decent storyline, and an endearing duo at its core. While it falls short of greatness, there's still plenty to enjoy in this intergalactic adventure.
Let's break it down:
Story
Set in a sci-fi universe grappling with the timeless question of artificial life forms' rights, Metalic Rouge begins with a slow burn that ignites into thrilling action as it progresses. What starts as a Slice of Life infused with action gradually morphs into a high-octane rollercoaster ride. However, the pacing falters towards the end, leaving the storytelling feeling a bit chaotic.
Characters
While not reaching the iconic status of the Chisato-Takina duo from Lycoris Recoil, the Naomi and Rouge par…

Sci-fi spectacle with good animation. Story is not that original, and revolves around free of will. Main problems here is that motivation of villains is just too poor and boring. One antagonist is crazy maniac, another is wannabe revolutionary without own plans and dependence on unknown third party, and the last one is just going for world domination. The main antagonist is just sad excuse of a human being, stop sign would have more charisma at stopping the main heroine. Low screen time for antagonists does not help either. At any rate, execution of their conflict is too artificial and just bad.
It is just sad to see ending to flop so hard, as first ~3 episodes set up excellent expectations. This expectations are alive until last few couple episodes, when source of technology pops out of…

Studio Bones’s Metallic Rouge can best be described as the anime equivalent of Disney’s Wish.
If I had a nickel for every time a renowned animation studio released an animated project that was meant to celebrate the anniversary of their studio’s founding only for it to end up as a critical disappointment in critic and/or fan reception, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
Comparing Studio Bones and Disney in terms of their impact on animation and the production libraries they boast would normally elicit a positive analogy based on how influential they were for creating so many beloved works that still hold up today. It really goes without saying that Studio Bones might just be one of the most iconic and important animation studios that is…

Well hello Cyberpunk my old friend. It’s been a long time, hasn’t it.
This is a hard one to review. Modern cyberpunk anime are hard to come by. Especially in this isekai hell we seem to be stuck in these days… Think one of the last ones I watched was DimensionW somewhere in the mid-2010s, Metallic Rouge introduces itself with a bedroom wall poster that immediately captivates. The style of the whole anime is a welcome departure from generic-fantasy world or spaceship/sky 2d background. It has a misty, industrial and concrete aesthetic with lots of warm hues, and at least in the first half was not so over-articulated as to assault the eyes, but has a pleasing and soft sheen, like the first thing that came to mind was Tinsel City in Bubblegum Crisis- which itself was strongly inspired by Bl…
