Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX

Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX

Introduction

In the year Universal Century 0079, the Earth Federation and Principality of Zeon battled on opposite sides of the deadly One Year War. During one skirmish, infamous Zeon pilot Char Aznable successfully infiltrated an enemy base and stole a prototype mobile suit called the Gundam. With this powerful weapon, Char helped his allies achieve a decisive victory. However, in a freak accident involving the Gundam's advanced technology, Char vanishes alongside his signature red mobile suit. Six years later, pockets of war continue to rage on. Teenager Amate "Machu" Yuzuriha lives on a quiet space colony with her mother. Though her classmates attend taxing cram schools, Machu yearns for a more exciting life. Her wishes are answered through the crash landing of the Gundam QuuuuuuX, a state-of-the-art mobile suit used by a squad of Zeon soldiers. Machu discovers a natural affinity with the suit, and she uses it to fend off Federation forces. She is aided in her efforts by the mysterious Shuuji Itou, who pilots a Gundam that bears a remarkable resemblance to the one once used by the missing Char. Unbeknownst to Machu, her brawl is witnessed by a group of mecha enthusiasts who use mobile suits to fight in duos for competitive sport. In the pursuit of a thrilling life and human connection, Machu partners with Shuuji and engages in a series of escalating clan battles as hints of a greater conflict loom above her. I find it extremely difficult to evaluate this anime, I’ve often watched shows that improve or deteriorate, either drastically or gradually, but i have rarely seen something with peaks worth of an 8 and lows bad at the point to deserve a score of 4. In the end, I opted for the arithmetic mean, resulting in a solid 6. Before i start I have to do a necessary disclaimer: last year, I saw a lot of people, who had never watched anything Gundam related, watching Gundam Gquuuuuux, I strongly advise against doing this unless you’ve first watched the original the og Gundam anime from 1979. Otherwise, Gundam Gquuuuuux will seem incomprehensible, lacking both logical coherence and emotional resonance. It could be summarized as a massive "what if" scenario based on Gundam 0079, as it revisits specific…

3 reasons why you should not watch this series: 1. **Characters** This is unlike any Gundam ever created in the worse way possible. It's basically an action drama with characters that have no texture. The MC, Amate, is the type of girl that grinds my gears. She is the best example of a brat who thinks she owns the world. She embodies the worst of women, manipulative, insecure, and selfish. I firmly believe the author based her off rebellious entitled Japanese girls. IMO she is the worst character ever created in the Gundam Universe. 2. **Action** Even though this is an action anime, the fighting sequences were worse than 1980's Gundam. 3D models look terrible. Lots of weird camera shots to save money. 3. **Story** Nothing on the line except Amate's virginity. She wants to get laid so…

Kazuya Tsurumaki created a Gundam FLCL, a Newtype coming of age story. Nuff said,, its a simple tale, but boy is it is a good one. The story of Machu, Nyaan and Shuji is wrapped up in a Universal Century remix where characters who never shined before get a new light added to them alongside this colorful cast. Join Challia Bull ikemenified in yaoi yearning for Char. Join Machu and Nyaan as they get wrapped up in Kira Kira. And yet neither detracts from the other. Its a story of apathetic teens being carried by their whims. If there was anything to introduce UC to new fans, Studio Khara did it. 12 eps of absolute insanity you'd almost think Tomino wrote it until things get off the rails the way only Khara could. Gwitch felt epic, but Gquuuuuux feels contemporary. And that's an interesti…

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is an insanely wild and gripping piece of AU storytelling that only a director of Kazuya Tsurumaki’s talent could have handled. Whether it's the thrilling and weighty mobile suit fights, the intensely dramatic and moody color design, or the sheer mass of energy with which this production moves, it is, if nothing else, visually enrapturing. I especially loved its depiction of Newtype perception and how their sensory connection to the world is so emotionally intoxicating. With this show essentially being officially licensed fanfiction, it perfectly weaponizes nostalgia for the original Mobile Suit Gundam to near-perfection, creating a perpetual game of seeing what changed, what stayed the same, and how all the pieces of this new timeline lock into place. This als…

Combining Suisei Hoshimachi, Kenshi Yonezu, and NOMELON NOLEMON for the soundtrack with high-quality animation and a sweet story? Honestly, that’s probably one of the best ideas someone could have had in the anime industry. The music is amazing, fits perfectly, and I could play it on repeat forever. The animation is just… wow. It holds up the entire time and makes everything feel alive. The story though… yeah, that’s where I got a bit confused. In the beginning, it feels like it’s going to focus on one thing, but then it just explodes into different stories and different perspectives, and it’s kinda hard to keep up. You barely get enough time to understand what the characters are feeling, so bonding with them is hard. If this anime had like 16 or even 24 episodes instead of the short run…

Allow myself to join in the pile. This is not a good series to watch for newcomers to the series, nor fan of any of the creator's previous works (Gainax/Khara crew), nor fan of Gundam; even if there's certain nuggets of enjoyment possible. What is this then? Basically, in my head, Anno had a heavy night of binge drinking with his boys and they threw out a fanfic alternate universe of the original Gundam (Gundam 0079, UC universe). Someone took their job too seriously, wrote a meeting minute and sends to Sunrise who went: "Oh, the Anno on the poster of a series? This will make us $$!" Thus this ungodly creation was born. As in my opening statement, this series is simply not good. I am going to go on a rant for all 3 of the "supposed" target audience, so if you are here to see if you s…

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is a show stuck in it's past. As a non-Gundam fan, the viewer learns that much of the plot and many of the most prominent characters are legacy figures. Without familiarity with the older series, there is little nostalgia to draw on, which makes an average story feel underwhealming. Large portions of the narrative seem to revolve around returning characters rather than developing the new cast. This is evident in characters such as Amate Yuzuriha, who receives substantial screen time yet is given little meaningful development. The series also attempts to function simultaneously as a political thriller and a teen drama. It ultimately falls short because it leans heavily into the political elements—arguably the more engaging aspect—while leaving the teen drama u…

My expectations with GQuuuuuuX based on what I heard were that it didn’t do its own thing and leaned entirely on 0079 fanservice because that was the main complaint I heard everyone saying. Since the main premise was an alternate timeline, I figured people were taking that into account. After watching it, I see what people mean, but I don’t think it’s as bad as people have made it sound. For the most part, GQuuuuuuX felt original. I was expecting it to be “same event from 0079, but Zeon wins” on repeat (which would’ve been fine by me by the way). But it only really felt like that for the beginning — the plot is entirely different because it doesn’t focus on the war. At least the first half of GQuuuuuuX is a magnified view of the main characters going about their lives…which is an understa…

10/10 Gqsuxxxxx took me this long to finish because every episode put my into a deep slumber. Put me asleep Better than a sleep number mattress, nightquil and a cup of warm milk. Worst Gundam series to date. ( Even with you wfm) Do not recommend unless you ou have a stubborn child who refuses to sleep. Show them this and they will be lights out for 8 hours! The story is boring. The mobile suit designs are the worst thing I've ever seen in any mecha show (look what they did to gelgoog). Filled with new type dues ex. I'm not sure how any of this series was believable. You fumbled legendary great characters. Just shame all around. Who ever green lit this needs to be taken out back and beat. Pretty colors tho. ( That's the only positive I can think of)

1) GDucks (It's pronounced "Quacks." Why not?) is a fragmented mess from the the beginning (Literally, from "-Beginning"). If I put my analysis goggles on, I can sort of see a story about the old guard making the "worst timeline" throttling the ability for the latest generation to make their own story, but its doesn't make the show resonate in any way. Anno's content-neutral, slick version of Mobile Suit Gundam where the bad guys win (I know, I know, it's more complicated than that) does get in the way of the FLCL-styled, "lofi beats to relax/study to" new characters, and there's a lack of emotional heat from the latter to begin with. The first few episodes do give a good base to their quiet desperation, but once they get into the illegal fighting, it loses the emotional story threads of t…

GQuuuuuuX title is such a joke. I have never remember how many U are in there. So I just called it G Quacks all the time. First of all, the mobile suits design. This has the fugliest mobile suits design I have ever seen in Gundam History, surpassing Tekketsu no Orphens in terms of ugliness. Abomination is the right word. They resembles Evangelion which is the fugliest mecha in robot animation history and nothing else come close, except Gundam FreD, Psycho Gundam, and Akai Gundam here. The character design is a mixed between old style and newer style which is something unusual but not a bad thing. The animation is pretty good, even for new standards. It is not the best for sure, but still on the very good side. They use 3D anime shader for the mobile suits but it doesn't feel out of place.…

I strongly disagree with people saying this Gundam series is a good starting point. I began with the B: The Beginning movie, and while I could somewhat follow the story, anyone unfamiliar with at least one show from the original timeline would miss around 80% of the context, especially the worldbuilding and Char’s storyline. Starting the TV series after watching the movie is also frustrating since the first 3–4 episodes just rehash the same content in a slightly rearranged order without adding anything new. The decision to squeeze everything into just 12 episodes really hurts the storytelling. The series tries to cover too many plot points and themes, but there’s simply not enough time. With the amount of content available, it could have easily been stretched to 16 episodes or even a full…

A brand new UC Gundam series albeit in a timeline where Zeon won? As someone who loves UC Gundam the most out of all of them, I was excited when hearing about GQuuuuuuX and starting the show. That quickly turned to disappointment however. While I love the many references to events and characters from the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam series, what GQuuuuuuX has to add on its own falls short of the original series it is based on. To begin with, I really don't like the presentation of mobile suit combat in this show. The UI of the Gundams is taken straight out of Evangelion with the orange hexagonal displays. I love Neon Genesis Evangelion, but without Gundam there would be no NGE. Gundam is too iconic to need to borrow from NGE. Further on, there's lame stuff like "i-fields" (just like…

Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX is the worst Gundam Title I've ever watched. It came across like a soulless ChatGPT prompt of the highlights from the Gundam Universe without any sort of understanding of why those titles succeeded. Slamming the most iconic character Char Aznable and doing jarring flashbacks made such little sense unless the point was pandering for nostalgia's sake. Even then, I don't see longtime Gundam fans enjoying the vibrant colors of the anime. It seems like Studio Khara leaned heavily into mecha fights since people enjoy them, even though the Clan battle fights serve no purpose except hearing a character say Kira-Kira. This feints that the NewTypes are learning to pilot a Gundam in addition to running away from spending time to flesh out the story. And let's not forge…

I have a Zeon tattoo. I got it in 2011. I would like to think that would lend me some credibility in telling others what I think they should be watching in a franchise about people with large robots in space committing war crimes. I began watching this series with very low expectations, and knowing very little other than the fact that this was a timeline where Zeon had won the war. While I do find a lot of the story jarring, and a bit sporadic in its nature at how fast they try to push us through everything; I was not disappointed. It's definitely not the Gundam that I have come to love, but a brand new one that I am genuinely interested in. Cameos of familiar characters is always a fun thing, but meeting the new ones felt just as good. I think my only major gripe I really had with this…

Upon realization that Gundams are toys and never any realistic military option I often find it hard to wowed as I used to be. Good thing about Gundam's is most Gundam animes have good stories. I don't enjoy Mecha battles as I used to cuz in my mind Mecha's are nothing more than kids toys and hence even if humans last 1000 years we will never make mechas for combat... cuz they r some of the most unrealistic vehicles you can make for combat. So along with the animation the story is very important to me. Characters find the cockpit of premium Gundams and just hijack it by getting into it... the Gundam become theirs... no password needed? Its and example of lazy writing I say. Compared to some of the other Gundam shows I have seen, this has a weak plot in my opinion. Story felt a bit ridiculo…

Some of the most unlikable characters that have ever appeared in anime, and by far the worst series in the entire Gundam franchise. From the first episode to the last episode, I despised every single one of these characters. I didn't care when their Gundams were exploding. I don't care character A has a crush on character B. None of the their actions made any sense. Everything felt rushed and disjointed. The action scenes were laughable with low-budget CGI robots punching other CGI robots, and then they use some ridiculous digital rainbow effects to save on budget even further. I've never given a Gundam show less than 6/10 but here we are.

Very disappointed with the direction this series went. For context, I am a relatively new Gundam fan, I haven't watched a lot, but what I've most enjoyed by far is the UC series (the original series compilation movies, The Origin) I've seen so far. I am also a massive fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion, so the staff for this series really had me excited! First of all, the positives. I really enjoyed the visual direction for the series, especially the sequences set during 0079. Khara recreated the style of the original series with so much love, and every episode that had a flashback was my favorite. The sound is good for the most part, but I was a bit iffy on the placement of some of the music. Certain episodes have a vocal track in their climax that I don't feel improves the context of the…

This series, for me, is pure hype. It hooked me with its design and music. The story is exactly my type, though it feels a bit rushed, and I’m sure many people will struggle to understand the character relationships. But I’m one of those who gets it (yes, that Newtype stuff!), and for that reason alone—it’s a masterpiece to me. If you don’t understand what’s going on or can’t keep up, this anime will probably feel like total trash to you. I get it. For those people, it's a 1 out of 10. But if you're like me—watching for the hype, the vibes, and the aesthetic—it’s a solid 10+ out of 10. That said, I wouldn’t recommend this show if you haven’t watched the original Mobile Suit Gundam or Char’s Counterattack. And unless you have a friend who’s a hardcore fan of the UC timeline (I mean a mas…

Clearly made by OG Gundam fans, made for OG Gundam fans. GQuuuuuux gets a little greedy, setting a secondary goal of attracting younger generation audience. Having the trendiest pop singers in their OP, ED and OST. Sharing the character designs from latest Pokemon generation. Starting the story with a simple and engaging sports-like premise that is Clan Battle. Lastly, Machu, the main character, is written to be more relatable to the modern younger generation, with her anti-conforming attitude towards the school system, and her puppy love towards Shuji. Unfortunately, despite setting out to entertain both old and new viewers, GQuuuuuux is limited with the 12 episode format. Initially, the colony Clan Battle arc was pretty decent, introducing us Machu, Nyaan and Shuji. But as time goes on…
