My Dress-Up Darling Season 2

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2

Introduction

After Marin Kitagawa introduced Wakana Gojou to the world of cosplay, he has been creating her outfits with ease. Even so, he still has a lot to learn, and every new lesson seems to strengthen his love for sewing and for the hina dolls his grandfather taught him to make. Meanwhile, Kitagawa finds it harder and harder to hide her feelings for Gojou. Friends and strangers alike constantly mistake them for a couple, much to Gojou's embarrassment. After all, in his eyes, their worlds are far too different for anyone to think they could be romantically linked. However, as Gojou spends more time with Kitagawa and realizes that his passions are not ridiculed by other people, a relationship between the two no longer seems so far-fetched. A lot of reviews seem to be negative toward this season of Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru. While I do kind of get where they are coming from, it seems that they are misunderstanding the main theme of this show. This anime and manga is one of my most favorite romance stories of all time, not just because of the wholesome love story between Marin-chan and Gojo-kun, but because I genuinely relate to what I think the author wants to convey - embracing the things you love without shame. Of course, it's a romance story between Marin-chan and Gojo-kun with a lot of wholesomeness and fan-service, but the recurring conflict that is constantly shown in this show is Gojo-kun's social anxiety and shame toward liking things that men do not commonly do as society perceives. This theme is beautifully…

“My Dress-Up Darling” is one of my absolute faves, and the second season did not disappoint. It is much of the same of Marin being the absolute cutest and Gojo being our sincere king, and I’ll tell you, that formula is perfectly suited to me and my tastes. As such and on that note, this aligns with the age-old adage of: “If you liked the first season, you’ll like this, and if you didn’t like the first season, you won’t.” Some particular standouts this time around were the Akira sub plot (I thought the twist was so fun and clever) and the ED theme (which was viral for a second there—and for good reason). I SO hope that another season is on the horizon. We simply have to see these two get together!

Peak continuation coming off of a great season 2 - probably one of the slowest of slowest burn romances I’ve seen but it’s just so wholesome isn’t it - this season defo focussed much more on the cosplay side of things and being surrounded by fellow cosplayers that are involved in the same network getting close to one another - I personally enjoy that part of the show as I love the different cosplay designs and how characters can just change there appearances - obviously it has the blue balling of hell when it comes to Marin just not being able to confess to gojo but hopefully if there is a season 3 in the future i just know it is going to be an incredible confession

A very nice continuation of the Dress Up Darling series. The romance advances, and the series gets more in-depth into the world of cosplay. The show is very well animated, colorful, and a pleasure to watch. This anime is an extremely light anime and has some excellent and surprising moments about the power of cosplay. One, in fact, watching this longer and longer realizes this is as much a "sports" anime or hobby anime about cosplay as it is a romance. The dynamics continue from the first season, and they are a pleasure to be had. The protagonists, a modern-day gal and almost "out of time" doll maker, continue their light-hearted affair whilst exploring the world of cosplay. It's pretty much all you can ask for in the anime romance genre, with the exception that the romance does drag.…

Perhaps I've softened in the four years since I watched the aggressively-middling first season, but I actually found this pretty cute, fun, and surprisingly endearing, a huge step up from that long-ago first installment. It's certainly no high art, but it's kind of like upgrading from McDonald's to Culver's (to oust my midwestern self); ultimately it's still the same thing, but one is certainly far more enjoyable than the other. This was so obviously the result of a passionate crew, with consistently beautiful animation (including some really creative and surprising inclusions of mixed media, like a 20 second bit with real-life puppets) that just makes the whole thing feel vibrant and energetic. It also helps (for me) that this season definitely feels like it toned down the horniness compa…

The second season is a s good as the first. The show looks good, I like the art style and the animation is good. The dresses are drawn well. This is an anime about otaku culture and its portrayed well. There is some romance which is done right. I like the chemistry between the main characters. There are no villains or jerks. And I think I liked the last episode the best. If you enjoyed season 1, you will also enjoy the sequel. Marin and Gojos relationship grows in this season. If you like cosplaying, there probably is no better anime on the topic than this. I had mentioned the show has good animation, that's a lot in expressive character acting. Only con I can say is, maybe the show would be better if they removed some of the fan service from the show.

The reason anime fans get a weird reputation is back again with another season. Having talked a lot about the core aspects of the show and its visuals in season 1 I’ll be more brief. The famous character art is back in season 2 to all of our delight, and the generic background art is back to all of our…whatever nobody cares. It’s once again notable how the artists can make Marin look like so many different people, this is something that some shows have struggled with but these artists have long cleared that hurdle. This season we see the inclusion of many more characters, their designs and sense of uniqueness as compared to others are all fairly commendable. With that out of the way the main topic for discussion in season 2 can be the more complex elements of the show. It is at its abso…

Basically Season 1 but better; I had an overall better enjoyment from this season of the show compared to Season 1. Some people are complaining that they focused too much on the cosplay this season and not enough on the relationship, which I would argue was the opposite problem in Season 1, so I'm glad to see more cosplays and more from the cosplay community because that is what makes this show unique from other generic high school romances. With that said, I absolutely did want progress in Marin and Gojo's relationship, (such as officially dating, kissing, or even dare I say...holding hands) but alas they are still just friends. Marin does confront her feelings for Gojo internally, but fails ultimately to share or express those feelings in any new or developing way. Fan service aspects o…

Season 2 felt like a bit more of a slog.. The focus is shifted much more towards the supporting characters and cosplay. Yes the anime is called My Dress Up Darling and it's about cosplay, but in my opinion the cosplay aspect should have just been used to further progress Marin and Gojo's relationship. The fan service had been toned down a ton (thank god) and replaced with backstories of characters you don't remember the name of. It was still an enjoyable watch though, with more focus on side cast and cosplay, the scenes with Marin and Gojo hanging out were made to be much more enjoyable. It was a "YES!!! FINALLY!!!" sort of moment. Also the animations had very noticeably improved which was nice to see. Season 1 was better despite the fan service, but season 2 wasn't terrible! I only…

Absolutely stellar! No flaws at all! I was watching this on my phone during my morning commute and I could barely stop myself from licking my screen every time Kitagawa was on screen! I will have to rewatch both seasons on the big screen! It is difficult to overstate how perfect a waifu Marin is! The outfits in the show show off her beauty wonderfully and she has great chemistry with the supporting characters! The characters act in an exaggerated, but human-like way. The cosplay theme gives a nice structure to the series, but doesnt introduce any unnecessary tension! Absolutely Phenomenal! 100/10

3 years after the first season, and I still love My Dress Up darling. There are so many rom-coms nowadays that are just a slight variation of the same thing, so it's refreshing to see Dress Up Darling subvert that by giving their characters personalities other than the introverted and anti-social boy and the extroverted social girl who is in love with him. Both these characters have their own interests, their own specialties, and season 2 does a really good job of continuing to showcase that, and continue to improve on what was already shown in season 1. I loved seeing Gojo's fear of being ostracized be an even more present thing in the second season and how he comes to realize that people are actually really cool about it, that other people deal with similar things, and that it might have…

"Dear My Dress-Up Darling, what a wonderful experience you’ve taken me on." This season was a bit of a letdown compared to the first, but nonetheless it was still great and enjoyable to watch. Even when it didn’t hit the same highs as Season 1, it still kept the charm that made me fall in love with the series in the first place. The chemistry and bond between Gojo and Marin is still the heart of this show. Their relationship feels natural and wholesome, and it’s honestly beautiful to watch. The way they support each other and slowly grow closer really makes you feel invested in them. At times, it even makes you feel a little envious of a bond like that, because it feels so genuine and hard to come by. That said, my biggest issue with this season is how far it leans into the side charact…

Very fun. Some great gags. Wholesome. The show turned in an appropriate direction for this season. I think this does well to service the relationships between the characters. This show is a love letter to cosplayers, cosplay-groups, and other fandom and convention goers. If you are looking for a romance story, this is not it. The animation was very interesting, they story-boarders were definitely left off of the leash for this season. It's very refreshing. It is definitely a jarring transition between the first and second seasons. In summary this show is fun, funny, and wholesome. It has plenty of Rom-Com cliches to gorge on. Highly recommend to cosplayers. 8/10.

As if Marin couldn't get any cuter, she did. I wouldn't say season 2 was better or as memorable than the first (sequels don't tend to surpass the original) but I still enjoyed Marin and Gojo's relationship in this anime. I will say that it focuses a lot more on side characters, basically giving the relationship the same amount of screen time as the friendships. I will say, the last episodes make it all worth it. Marin and Gojo blossom with the help of friends they meet a long the way, a similar cosplaying friend group to season 1. Marin gets to step outside of her comfort zone to impress everyone at school and take her cosplaying to the next level. You will also notice that season 2 is more sanitized than season 1, which can be a flaw for viewers. I hope you enjoy watching season 2, it w…

I have a complex relationship with this anime. Everything about it, season 1 and 2, is great, except for how little the main pairing's love story progresses. But the very fact that I want it to progress so badly is precisely because this anime has many qualities. First and foremost, I'd say characters are well written and have some good emotional depth. Their concerns and feelings, especially about themselves, feel relatable. This is conveyed through thoughtful and impactful dialogues and few efficient flashbacks to their backstories, with that slow and sweet slice-of-life ambient feeling. Secondly and directly enabled by that precise character depth is the exploration of self acceptance and embracing someone's passion. It's of course not the only anime that explores this, especially foc…

Season 1 had me hooked like nothing else... So S2 being this bad hurt. This review comes late because of how watching this show was such a drag. There's quite literally no progress in Marin & Gojo's love life, and they tended to focus on every other characters sob story rather than what the show is really all about in the first place. On top of that there were 4 or 5 episodes in a row that pushed some woke cross dresser that probably doesn't apply to or interest the majority of viewers in the first place. Lets be frank, we started the show for fan service & a decent love story. Not 120 minutes of exposition attempting to normalize some strange fetish. You would think that CloverWorks would try and cater more to their audience. Go read the manga if you want what you ordered.

This season meant a lot to me, and not because of how much “happens”, but because of how it made me feel. Season 2 is quieter than the first one, and I understand why some people might see that as a weakness. For me, it wasn’t. This season chose to slow down and focus on emotions, on subtle growth, on what it really means to open yourself to someone else. Marin is the heart of this anime for me. Her expressions, her sweetness, her enthusiasm, and the way she wants to be with Gojou made me feel genuinely excited every time she was on screen. She doesn’t just like him, she chooses him, she wants to share her world with him, and that desire feels sincere and warm. Watching her made me desire too: not in a superficial way, but in the sense of wishing to live something like that myself. Gojo…

My Dress-Up Darling season 2 is, quite frankly, one of the most impressive productions I’ve ever seen from the standpoint of pure creativity. The incredibly lively character acting, the insane attention to detail in costume and character designs, the way it constantly messes with the frame itself for either cinematic depth or just to be a lil’ bit quirky; there’s so much going on visually that it’s near impossible to look away from the screen. Even when the compositing isn’t quite all there, the thing it’s doing that it gave up said compositing for is simply brilliant. Those visuals aren’t just for showing off, either, as many of these components work in service of the broader themes regarding self-acceptance and pursuit of one’s passions. This season has Gojo finally opening up to larger…

I gotta say, I found myself enjoying My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 a lot more than Season 1. This season felt more interesting and fun, while also giving more space for character growth and emotional development. One thing I really liked was Gojo’s gradual confidence boost. Seeing him become more comfortable with his skills and with Marin was nice to watch, and Marin herself feels more grounded as a character rather than just a typical love interest. Their relationship progresses in a soft, natural way, with cute moments that feel genuinely sincere. The side characters honestly helped make this season even better. Sajuna Inui brings a fun mix of confidence and vulnerability, while Shinju Inui was especially sweet to watch as she slowly gains more confidence in herself. I also liked how Ak…

As the successor season to the first of Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru, it does continue with its iconicism and what what follows are new characters to enrich the relations between our main characters Wakana Gojo and Kitagawa Marin, dilemmas regarding Marin's life, some innuedoes continuing from the first season concerning love and romance, and overall new ventures into cosplaying and ideas. Now, has there been any drastic change to the anime plotline stemming from the first season, not really, the additional characters do reveal hidden backstories to their relation and how do they know Kitagawa Marin, or how they got into cosplay, yeah that exists, but that is not all. Regarding other aspect, they add a layer of complexities to the feelings and expectation, especially dawning upon the p…
