Myself; Yourself

Introduction

In the peaceful little town of Sakuranomori, a group of young friends are about to bid farewell to one of their own. Due to his parents’ business plans, Sana Hidaka has to move away from his quiet childhood home to the boisterous city of Tokyo. Though it pains him, he must say goodbye to his precious friends—the kind-hearted Aoi Oribe, the spunky Wakatsuki twins, Shuri and Shuusuke, and the cheerful and upbeat Nanaka Yatsushiro. But even though he is reluctant to leave them behind, he believes that no matter how far apart they are, they will always cherish the memories of their friendship. Five years later, Sana, now a 16-year-old high school student, returns to his hometown with the hope of restoring his old life. However, he quickly realizes that although his town may not have changed drastically, the friends he left behind are not who they used to be. Unsettling shadows loom over Sakuranomori as his friends hold new secrets and bear burdens that threaten the bonds they once shared. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

SoL TW topics DRAMA-FILLED crazy depending on the viewer but somewhat cute romance not really much of a storyline as expected from a SoL but it’s not that bad broke my initial expectations. The beginning half isn’t much to go on about. It’s solid but towards the middle/end, it does get more interesting. You shouldn’t get into it if you don’t have the patience but I really recommend the later portion of the show. It is a bit on the older end and source does come from a VN from way back into the days. In my opinion, it’s one of the better VN adaptation. (what came out before this) Edit: I just saw there was a LN, I haven’t looked into it that much.

I gave myself a goal to watch as much anime as possible during the summer since, knowingly, I would be quite busy afterward. Myself; Yourself was my first pick, not only because the art style reminds me of School Days, but 'cuz I was more invested that it was originally a Visual Novel instead. Since I can't actually can't play the Visual Novel for whatever reason, I decided the anime would do for now. Myself; Yourself was a pleasurable watch that took a turn that I wasn't expecting. It may not be Doga Kobo's greatest work, especially given how basic the animation is (ignoring my love for the 2000s style), but the story definitely holds up the ground for me. Episode 10 by far affected me the most. Not to give spoilers, but ya, it had me thinking. Can we talk about the music? Yea, I thin…

This anime is old, so as a watcher in 2023 I wasn’t expecting animation to be mind blowing. That being said, the art is pretty and the animation is OK. Is that it for this show though? Story: 5 If your looking for an anime that starts of “cutesy” then slowly falls into a darker story then you may enjoy this; I personally love these kind of stories but this particular series failed to capture real depth. Keep in mind it’s 13 episodes and focuses on an array of character plots that quite frankly feel rushed and incomplete for the most part. It does contain some potentially triggering topics, if you need specifics I suggest you look yourself incase the anime is going to alarm you. Music: 4 Just meh. Pretty standard, basic music. I like the violin piece, but again it’s nothing to blow my mi…

A boy returns to a hometown after some years. There he meets his old friends. A girl, who was super nice and kind but now acts like she hates him. Old friend. His old friend's sister who has grown up a bit. And other unimportant characters. The boy starts living alone. This is a good start and potential for wonderful story. But. The anime is kinda drag. It is boring, cliche and going nowhere. The MC is kinda bland and actually does not do ANYTHING in the show, he just observing. He moves from place to place and the things are just happening around him. The girl is just a tsundere, acting cold and hot but it is obvious from the start that she is head over heels into the MC and very bad at hiding it. And the MC is cliche dense. The girl is kinda meek and boring. The old friend does no…

I watched Myself; Yourself twice. Once, back when it was new. I was in junior high, I believe. And a second time at 28, now in August 2021. The story is very memorable. I pretty much recalled 90% of the plot, as I was watching. This story is very 2000s anime-like. It was clearly influenced by stuff like Elfen Lied, which was also roaring at the time, and perhaps even Kanon - with the whole "guy returns to his hometown and rekindles old friendships with nearly-forgotten people." The most memorable plot-point to me, was the old lady with the animal and human sacrifice. I think that it's actually important to bring the topic out to daylight. Sacrifice used to be a thing across the board in human societies. It's not just the Vikings and peoples from Mesopotamia who practiced it. As time move…

I watched this anime expecting the usual harem ecchi anime. Boy was I wrong. This anime talks about dark topics such as loss, suicide, depression, abuse, and many more. The majority of the cast are written amazingly. The drama in this show doesn't seem out of place and they don't make simple actions overly dramatic too much. The drama feels very much real, and even despite the show being relatively short, you get attached to the characters pretty quickly. Now despite being an absolutely amazing drama show, this is a pretty bad romance. It's barely a plot point and feels like it was just thrown in there. Sure it was nice to have, but they could have done a much better job on it.

This anime was extremely boring with a weird story. First of all, there was so much fan service and unnecessary scenes for the purpose of fan-service. I didn't need half of the episode to be cut out so we could see them in swimsuits. Nanaka felt really annoying to me and unrealistic. Her trauma really came out of nowhere and I felt a lot of second-hand embarrassment for how she acted. I wasn't a fan of the incest, either. A lot of things felt very unrealistic and forced, like how what's-his-name remembered Nanaka's tune many years later and transposed it perfectly on piano. Nanaka's jealousy and victim-complex was very annoying to watch as well. The ending episodes felt like a bunch of random thing thrown together and it really lost me.

I don't know why was this anime included in recommendations of COMEDY ROMANCE anime. Neither was it comic, nor romantic. It was all about friendship and individual past stories of the protagonists that had nothing to do with their love.. The story was my biggest disappointment. It felt as though half of the series was dedicated to Hinako, the little girl, even though she had nothing to do with the main plot of the series. She was so annoying! Myself yourself, as the name suggests is about two people who were once childhood friends, met each other after many years and the girl expected the boy to remember her but he Didn't recognise her at the spot, which quite disappoints her. In the beginning it is shown that she was interested in him and he wasn't, but it turned out to be only friend…

Myself; Yourself was released over a decade ago, but it depicts some issues still - unfortunately - recurring nowadays. It's an anime with sweet and funny moments, although it is mostly about friendship, coming of age, depression, GAD and PTSD disorders. It can certainly get very dark sometimes, so trigger warning. Although I enjoyed how they displayed the mental illnesses, with some character developing a lot more than I expected (at first I figured it would be mostly about Sana and Nanaka), it still felt a little "vague"? I wish other characters would've been more exploited, and that would require more episodes. The ending felt rushed. The show lagged a bit, and then ended too sudden, which is the main reason why this is a 3,5/5 anime for me.

This is one of my first reviews, but I really felt compelled to write one after watching this anime, since I've been a bit surprised with a few of the things in it that have been pointed out as good or bad in other reviews. Of course, this is just my personal opinion - but maybe it'll be helpful to some of you out there considering if you should watch this. The story centres around a high school student, Sana Hadaka, as he moves back to his hometown alone after having had to move away five years earlier. While the town is not that much different from before, Sana soon finds that his childhood friends, especially the previously sweet and innocent Nanaka, certainly are. When Sana first meets Nanaka again, she strikes him as dark and gloomy, and he therefore doesn't immediately recognize her…

I haven't written a review in a while but this will be short. Also, don't be alarmed by my score because I rate things based on a personal scale of bias and a 5/10 is still worthy of attention. I enjoyed Myself;Yourself much more than I expected I would after watching the first episode. Without giving too much away, I can say for sure this is one of the most deceptive animes out there betraying the initial impression it chooses to give off in the beginning; there are only a couple subtle hints here and there in the first five episodes that clue the audience in to its true intentions. That being said, if someone asked me to describe this show in one word or genre, 'deceptive' would be the only one I could say for sure. I believe this show's greatest flaw is that it has trouble deciding w…

The worst romance anime I've ever watched, the writing is a terrible mess, first it wasted 2 episodes on an unimportant loli character (yes the story would be perfectly fine without her since she didn't affect the other character's development). And the character development itself is pretty slow, it hints the main characters past but it drags on for too long, by the time it came it's already the last episode so it feels so rushed and I don't feel any emotional impact from it, the build up for the climax was simply not enough. Not to mention almost every side characters were annoying af (principal, vice principal, the twins parents, etc) and they lack any common sense, which made the drama feels very unrealistic. I strongly advise you to STAY AWAY FROM THIS ANIME, you'll thank me later.

I will say this straight away. The first half is probably a 7/10, it is the later part which ruined the whole thing. The story gets 'dark' but the two things which are dark, are not really dark and they are only there for the impact on the story. What I mean is they did not feel like part of the story. If you have seen the anime there is one 'dark' moment when something bad happens to a character, she was stabbed, but it is there for a plot twist none of us expected with no goddamn signs or clues. Also what happens to the person who stabbed her, we do not know. And the last two episodes are just so forced and rushed. I really goddamn wanted to take a knife and plunge deep into my heart. I watched this anime for the sole reason of its 'darkness' as I just searched up on youtube "never a goo…

If someone would ask me what Myself;Yourself is all about, it's all about characters having PTSD. I think 13 episodes are not enough to explain the story line fully since some scenes seemed to be forced. The ending doesn't resolve any character flaws and some character's personality seemed to be not developed, instead, jumped to 'high spike', having a story behind it instantly. Its comedy part didn't fit at all. Sure it's fun to watch, but it is not enough to be that entertaining. It's like 80% drama and 20% comedy, although I liked how did it approach the 'slice of life' genre.

I'll start by saying this anime was way better than I was expecting it to be. The story was awesome. It was very deep, it constantly had me interested in finding out what happens next. The deepness could probably be compared to Clannad, except if this went on longer, maybe it would be even better. Art had a similar feeling to anime like Clannad but also reminded me of School Days. So, really it's nothing special but there are definitely times when major attention to detail is obvious, and those times are when the art really shines for Myself; Yourself. Sound: Again, it was fine, but nothing great. Music was okay. Nothing bad about the voice acting either. Oh, I'll say this though. Aoi's voice is so adorable!! Characters: As mentioned before, the story was really deep... And this series…

I'm not usually one to write reviews very frequently, but I came across this show and put it on my watch list. The first half of the series had me quite bored to be completely honest because it was a pretty typical romance with very typical characters. The show goes from a 6 to a 9 for me about halfway through the series and the story becomes almost captivating. Watching the final episode I could barely breath through one particular set of scenes. What I am saying is, if you want a light romance anime with some darker subplots that is pretty short, its a very good series to fulfill that. Please note I only rated the story an 8 because the first half didn't have much driving force to it.

Looking for an anime where you'll be completely shocked? Look no further! This series has all you want.. Sadness, Happiness, Shock the whole bundle of emotions! I highly recommend this to anyone whose looking for a good series to watch in a whole day! ----- SPOILERS AHEAD ----- Story 10/10: The story at the beginning is generic and I thought it was your typical romance story where childhood friends become lovers and boy was I wrong! What turned into a thriller in a matter of a few episodes was spectacular.. You have a crazy old woman whose on a killing spree, a girl who was scarred by a fire she had no control over, a guy who is scared of knives (I was like wtf through the entire thing until the end..) and so much more that is just down right amazing... It was a well thought story line th…

Yet again im going to stray a bit from my usual style of reviews. Myself; Yourself is an interesting title. I've heard/read from a bunch of different sources and eventually added it to my watch list. This show earns the heart drop award. Meaning it's great at just dropping the ball straight on you. Before watching this show I did play through the game. Small comparisons might be used. Now let's get into the real meat of this review [Story] 6/10 - Now im sure the synopsis can do this part for me. But the story kinda jumps a lot. Making the real tone of the show drop quiet significantly. Once you get to around episode 7 or 8 the story starts to get a lot better. From that point on the story is pretty good, nothing I haven't heard of or seen before but it was nice to see a story keep my att…

What an emotional roller coaster. Myself; Yourself is about Hidaka Sana, who left his hometown as a kid and came back five years later and tries to reunite with his friends. At first I thought it would be him trying to find them and reunite them one by one kind of like AnoHana but I was wrong, the group are still friends, they just had a lot of shit happen while he wasn't around, he finds out about these things gradually throughout the series while having some fun times, tough times and very sad times. I loved the premise for this story and the development was steady and slow throughout all 13 episodes, they didn't wast time on "solving misunderstandings" and beach and onsen episodes, instead they went for actual romantic developments (although slow) and slight occasional fanservice tha…

Unexpected is the first thing I thought upon stumbling upon Myself;Yourself. I learned eventually that it's based upon a Visual Novel, though that became obvious as most VNs tend to have similar structure (a main character, 4 or 5 heroines and a boy side character). Now when I say unexpected I mean I was truly thinking it was just another harem series, love triangle drama, or worse a complete waste of time. Fortunately, it's not. It's actually pretty good. The main character, Sana, is not really terrible or dull like most MCs, though he is not that interesting either. The story is made incredibly interesting by the interactions of the side characters. Nanaka is the main heroine but is traumatized by a certain event from her childhood, the twins are constantly suffering because of the rela…
