Sakamoto Days

Sakamoto Days

Introduction

The name Tarou Sakamoto once instilled fear in every villain. No other professional hitman matched his prowess, and fellow assassins revered him. However, Sakamoto fell in love. In five short years, he married, became a father, put on some weight, and traded his weapons for an apron as he became the owner of a humble convenience store. Although Sakamoto is decidedly retired, he finds his old life of crime hard to shake off. His former partner, Shin Asakura, reappears and resolves to stay with Sakamoto's family under their strict no-kill rule. To make matters worse, a large bounty is placed on Sakamoto's head. Numerous assassins now pursue him—but they are in for a surprise. Sakamoto has not lost his edge, and no matter what tricks his enemies pull, he will fight off every last one to protect his dear family. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

WHAT WORKS - Doesn't lean on power scaling. Sakamoto beats almost anyone, with One Punch Man vibes. - Fun comes from how he wins, and how he hides the fighting from his wife and daughter. - The comedy is well executed and stays funny even during serious fights. - Every fight is animated well, with great flow and fluidity. - Other scenes look good too. Not Demon Slayer level, but still strong. WHAT DOESN'T - Too many "He's so fast!" disappearing and reappearing scenes. Almost every episode has one. - A new character is accepted into the group too quickly. A slower burn would have helped. - Shin's admiration for Sakamoto feels unearned. It's too brief to justify how strong he thinks Sakamoto is. A spin-off about their days working together would fix that. FINAL VERDICT Good action, a de…

TLDR: Don't give up on this one! I wasn't planning to write any reviews on this site, but I feel like I have to with Sakamoto Days because I can see others have made the mistake I very nearly did. After the novelty of the premise wore off, I was surprised and disappointed by how quickly it dropped off. It seemed like it was going to be a villain(hitman)-of-the-week gag anime. I almost dropped it, BUT stick it out!!! From episode 12 ("Part 2"), the show becomes what I was expecting from the start: a somewhat unique battle anime with an emphasis on humour. I'm looking forward to Season 2.

Despite getting a 7/10, I can only give this a mixed feelings review. It's a fairly solid show, but it also falls heavily into the shonen slop category. The second half of the first season suffers a lot worse from this, but I'll just focus on the first part for this review. The characters all fall really heavily into the 'fine' category. None of them are particularly stand out characters, none of them are particularly funny and none of them are particularly memorable. Sakamoto as a main character is fairly flat. Despite being the titular character, he often serves more as the 'heavy' who just shows up to win a fight. Shin falls much more heavily into the lead character role which does make it a bit more of a generic shonen. It originally felt like an interesting premise, following around…

If someone asked me to name a textbook 7/10 anime, I would probably suggest the first cour of "Sakamoto Days". I initially hesitated to watch it because the series had been hyped so heavily by content creators and the wider anime community, only for the adaptation to then receive criticism for supposedly having “bad animation.” Watching it now, my main reaction is: this is what people consider bad animation? Anime fans may have become too spoiled by the absurdly high production standards of recent years. The animation here is generally good and remains consistently solid throughout the cour. Yes, the manga’s biggest selling point is its extremely creative and dynamic action, and the adaptation does not reproduce every panel with the same level of impact. Even so, I think the studio manag…

Perhaps the worst anime I have had the misfortune of watching. I would never get past 2 ep of (and review) something I so violently abhor but a friend insisted on it. Whoever popularized this type of recurring conflict/plot which we see repeat every couple episodes should be drawn and quartered. Some examples of what I mean: fights need some argument to go back and forth about whilst occurring, every villain has a back story which needs to be shown, there's 3 reversals every fight, fights take 1-2 episodes to conclude, villains become allies, ... Perhaps you know the type. This only gets a 3 instead of a 1 because the animation is up to snuff, the art is well-done (though I hate it almost as much as the conflict personally), the voice-acting did not bother me; it's put together well.

Despite its somewhat cliché premise, Sakamoto Days is a thrilling and enjoyable watch. The cast is fantastic, with Sakamoto himself being a standout protagonist. While the story relies heavily on flashbacks, they are handled well, serving as meaningful narrative building blocks rather than mere filler. That said, while the first season is strong, it suffers from introducing a wave of characters who vanish shortly after, feeling more like a tactic to bridge the gap to a second season than a natural part of the plot. The art style is pretty good, it’s a comedy series with action. It lived up to expectations, and I didn’t notice any sloppiness in the animation.

In Sakamoto days we follow an elite-tier assassin, probably the best there was, who retired and now tries to run a convenience store. It oftentimes feels like a slice of life because of the comedy, but in reality, it's more of an action comedy, it's just that the action is so unserious and goofy that it doesn't feel that way. Through the series there's many quirky assassins that confront our main gang, new friends, and classic action show scenarios like an amusement park, an underground lab and a casino, though the focus is always on being flashy, showing off Sakamoto's god-like abilities, making a few puns and call it an episode, I did find it entertaining enough to finish it but the story while moving towards a goal is kind of barebones, you never feel a threat or real challenge for our…

Really enjoyed Sakamoto Days. It features the representation of a chubby yet extremely agile protagonist. Sakamoto’s body type is rarely seen in action anime, where most fighters are usually lean or traditionally muscular. Despite his larger build, he moves with incredible speed, skill, and precision, which makes his fights both surprising and entertaining. It was refreshing to see a character like Sakamoto (a former hitman and now devoted family man) solving problems and defeating opponents while looking like an ordinary, slightly chubby shop owner. The contrast between his calm, friendly personality and his deadly assassin abilities adds a lot of charm to the series. Chubby or beefy male body representation in anime is still quite limited, especially in action roles, so it was fun and…

It's an anime I really liked. It has a One Punch Man vibe, but they haven't shown it to be as powerful as that yet. I really liked the drawings and the fight scenes, and it made me curious about the next episode. However, there are some parts I didn't like, which made me feel bored at times. For example, Sakamoto's appearance, the fact that he's turned into a family man, slightly lowered my motivation to watch. Of course, I understand the plot point of him giving up being a hitman and becoming a family man, but the way he looks so broken to me had a negative effect. It was nice that he would occasionally weaken and transform, but that physical therapist woman prevented that too. Another thing I didn't like was the family rule of not killing anyone. While everyone else is trying to kill e…

This anime delibered me something I didn't even know I needed: refrigerator fight. Seriously, the fights are incredibly fun to look at, every fight is full of creativity. It's like a slice of life anime with fun battles, so it might not be for every one. But if other fighting anime have been boring you, try sakamoto days!even after like 2 episodes you will already know if this anime is for you. apart from the battles, the jokes land well and I had a blast with this fresh air of an anime. the few more emotional beats are fine, too, though they could still be developed a bit more. I am a sucker for stories that make me feel something, and sakamoto days doesn't disappoint, but it also doesn't deliver if that makes sense. it just does its job, no more no less.

Unfortunately, the anime was very bad and far below expectations. The story is clichéd and overused. I expected at least the events to be entertaining, innovation isn’t always necessary as long as the story progresses in an enjoyable way ,but even that didn’t happen. The “daily life” elements are very ordinary and repetitive, following the same pattern as older works: every episode introduces a new character who then joins the group. It failed on both fronts the episodes aren’t enjoyable, and the characters aren’t well written. The blond character who can read minds is extremely plain and not unique at all; he only compensates for Sakamoto, who is always silent. The Chinese girl feels like a copy of Kagura from Gintama, but worse no comedic sense and no good design. The biggest mistake…

tldr; it's okay... nothing crazy good nothing crazy bad about this show if you enjoy spy x family you'll probably like this too!! I wld say though it's pretty corny, animation is okay (s2 is better in terms of that), plot is pretty predictable, as well as the characters in the show. I'm glad the main characters of this show are mostly adults with no weird pervy side character. shin and sakamoto make decent protags, but shaotang and the sniper dude seems to be there just for variety. some parts did make me giggle as the villains in this season are more on the funny/less serious side. my biggest complaint is how surface-level all the characters and the plot seems to be; world-building & character development lacks heavy in this. BUT!! overall, if you need something easy to watch after an…

Sakamoto Days… finally! This is an anime I’ve been waiting for for a long time. I read several chapters back during the COVID pandemic, and when I heard the manga was getting an anime adaptation, I was honestly really excited and couldn’t wait. Well… the animation quality isn’t exactly great, but it’s still enjoyable. That’s also why I’m only writing my review now—because I prefer binge-watching instead of waiting week by week. Hehehe 😁 I’m a little disappointed because the manga’s visuals could’ve been adapted much better. But overall, it’s still fun to watch. I highly recommend this anime to anyone who enjoys stories about professional hitmen. This series follows a retired assassin who’s trying to live a normal life—but he still ends up being ridiculously cool. The general vibe feels…

I am deeply conflicted about Sakamoto Days. Initially, i just started watching for the goth girl because i saw an edit and instantly fell in love. I honestly struggled with most of the episodes. There were some instances where i would find myself invested but that would quickly fade away as the show would go back to square one and on and on. Animation is decent, not much to say about it. Pacing is extremely weird and takes me out of the story very fast. I really like the designs for some of the characters, they can look pretty interesting and tough but if we are talking about personality wise, there isn't much to dig. It feels pretty shallow and one dimensional that makes me to not care about the characters much or taking them seriously. I haven't read the source material so i am only…

Cutting to the chase - Sakamoto Days fell flat for me. Many times it felt like a poor man’s version of Spy x Family; one that lacks the charm that boosted Spy Fam to popularity. The characters in Sakamoto Days lacks depth and felt forgettable. Whatever the series tried to do, it felt bland and uninspiring. Comedy pales in comparison to other popular comedic series. The overarching story felt flimsy and uninteresting. Animation-wise, there’s nothing to write home about either. Personally. Sakamoto Days falls into the category of “palate cleanser”. Something that I'll watch an episodes or two periodically, and in between more intense series or on days when I’m craving for something lighter. All in all, it was a struggle to invest my time into this series when we have alternatives like Spy…

I wouldn’t say it has a unique story or anything, but if you’re looking for something mildly interesting, it does have some decent villains. Shakhamo Days is a very easy to watch anime. Honestly, I’m not sure what exactly I find interesting about it I just kind of enjoy it. It is what it is. Don’t expect anything extraordinary it’s just a comedy show meant for passing time. You’ll get a few chuckles out of it. I wouldn’t call it the greatest comedy ever, but it’s decent enough. Watch four or five episodes. If you don’t like it, drop it it’s not going to get any better. But if you’re looking for something light to watch after a hard day’s work, it’s a fine choice.

There are many romantic relationships where the woman will say "I can fix him", only for the violent man to continually go back to the bad habit(s). "Sakamoto Days" is a great wish fulfillment show where this actually works and it's the best thing ever. This show is without a doubt the most wholesome and funny series that centers around a very successful professional (ex-)hit man. Very few other animations portray the value of a peaceful family life in contrast to an exciting, yet violent, life quite like this story did. Basically all of the scenes with Sakamoto and his wife and kid are the best things ever. The happiness and joy they share just by having dinner together or by going to the daughter's school events is just beautiful. It makes Sakamoto an extremely easy character to root f…

Unfortunately late. About reviewing the first part of the first season. Without saying much, Fatima is one of the best manga I've read in the last three years. Fatima is a mix of comedy, action, and excitement. The first part was excellent, and at first it was strange, wonderful, and enjoyable. Honestly, I remember during Ramadan it was really enjoyable. Without further ado, "Part 2 Review: The episode was incredibly enjoyable. Nagumo and what he did was both strange and useful. The second part of the first season of the Sakamoto Daisei anime has officially ended. The studio excelled in this part, with every fight, OST, drawing, and ending song. In this part, we learned about Sakamoto's character and delved into both the story and the characters, both as a villain and a villain (Slur). And…

A few years ago, anime bearing the Netflix Original seal were synonymous with doubt. Either they would be remembered for their quality and originality, produced by big names and studios in the Japanese animation industry; or they would be seen as an example of people practically praying for the return of the time they lost watching that rubbish on the screen. But in recent years, Netflix seems to have fixed most of these problems with a simple change in strategy: instead of producing new works, how about "just" monopolizing its global broadcast? This tactic proved much more effective than the one previously employed, because by pursuing the most anticipated new animes among global audiences, Netflix attracted much larger audiences rather than focusing on new stories that lacked the same a…

When I first stumbled upon Sakamoto Days through some random anime edit, I honestly wasn’t expecting much. It looked like your typical action-comedy setup — and I thought, “Alright, let’s see what this is about.” But after diving in, it turned out to be something entirely different… and honestly, a lot better than I anticipated. The main character, Sakamoto, feels like someone mashed up John Wick’s lethal precision with Jack Black’s laid-back dad energy, and it somehow works perfectly. He’s absurdly capable, hilariously expressive, and completely likable — all without saying much at all. There’s something really satisfying about watching a retired assassin who’s gained weight, running a convenience store, still effortlessly wipe the floor with top-tier killers… without even breaking a swe…
