Buddy Daddies

Buddy Daddies

Introduction

On Christmas Eve, four-year-old Miri Unasaka arrives in Tokyo completely alone, in search of her father. The bright lights and merry atmosphere guide Miri to a big hotel and a man with a delicious-looking cake. However, the child has just unknowingly walked into the center of an elaborate, foolproof plan for assassinating a dangerous mafia boss. Professional assassins Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa live together, fleeing memories of their grim childhoods and avoiding emotional connections. When their mission goes awry and they end up bringing Miri home, there is only one reasonable thing to do: return Miri to her mother. But the girl's innocent laugh and pure worldview quickly enamor her to Kazuki, who secretly enjoys playing a parent, and it is not long before Rei's impenetrable heart makes room for Miri. Miri's every move is unpredictable, and Kazuki and Rei find raising an energetic child harder than any of their missions. Although it presents a great risk to their careers, Kazuki and Rei—both assuming the affectionate nickname "papa"—decide to provide Miri with a normal childhood despite all the odds stacked against them. I do wanna recommend this show especially if you have been watching to much dark anime's or if you are watching a long anime and want to watch something quick and light hearted than this the perfect anime..it has cute and simple story ..but the part for which i want to recommend this show is its characters especially our "shut in" the change in both of them and the genuine bond they create dispite not being there true family and commiting to the hardship just because you want to melted my heart especially till the end... . its not perfect its draggy with its plots but but the impact of the whole ordeal just melts my heart its not something which i'll say everyone will enjoy but i think if you commit to this i mean how could you not its just a 12 ep anime you'll have something that would in…

Buddy Daddies is an unexpectedly heartfelt and fun anime that balances action, comedy, and emotional storytelling in such a natural way. The story about two hitmen suddenly becoming caretakers for a little girl feels chaotic at first, but it quickly turns into something warm, wholesome, and surprisingly emotional. What really stood out to me was how well the anime handled its characters. The bond between the main trio slowly develops in a way that feels genuine, and it’s impossible not to get attached to them as the story progresses. There are plenty of funny moments, but also emotional scenes that hit harder than expected. Also… I have to say it — the two male leads are absolutely handsome and effortlessly cool. Their designs, personalities, and overall presence definitely add to the en…

Buddy Daddies is an anime that I want so very, very badly to love... but I just can't. While the SOL genre is known for its calm and lighthearted tone, the medium as a whole lives on a knife's edge. This is because audience interest and enjoyment hinges almost entirely on one key factor: the characters. Most shōnen have almost impressively two-dimensional characters, yet they routinely get away with it because the fight scenes are just *that damn good.* Not so for SOL, which — unless you're Nichijou — cannot rely on the sheer momentum of explosions and catastrophe to propel the series forward. Buddy Daddies makes the mistake of investing too much of its time in its action sideplot, which turns out to not even be that good, which significantly detracts from the viewer's capacity to actuall…

Ever since Spy x Family has blown up in 2019 and beyond, other studios tried to replicate the formula but in a different style. You have some good attempts involving the Yakuza, such as the Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting, the Way of the Househusband, and Hinamatsuri. Funny, I might go back to those as one of them is what I am due for a re-watch last time I've seen it. Then you have one that was recent, such as Alma-chan Wants to be a Family involving robotics and AI. Then you have one that is closest to Spy x Family, known as Buddy Daddies. I know there is another that is similar to the formula, but we'll get to that when we get to that. For now, we are focusing on what we've finished in this review. Funny thing is that it's been a while, and I am definitely due for a re-watch with this sho…

Imagine if this show was exactly the same but the title was "Bunny Baddies" That would be pretty funny Anyways, I really enjoyed the platonic dynamic of Kazuki and Rei, it is reminiscent of when Gojo adopted Megumi and raised him with his wife, Geto. The art style is pretty good, adorable at times, and it's an overall wholesome, feel-good anime where the implied BL undertones isn't really the main focus. I don't really watch a lot of this type of show, since I'm more of an aura and hype moments type of fellow, but it's nice to see something cutesy and wholesome and funny like this once in a while.

This is my first review despite watching anime for years. I'll keep it short. Pros: It's wholesome. And the characters aren't shallow and flat and boring. They are in fact interesting and albeit cliche at first, the characters eventually grow well beyond their initial tropes. I also really like the art style. The ending song is the best. Cons: MCs have plot armor. Villain is cringe but I guess he doesn't matter. I recommend this anime if you just want to chill and watch a wholesome family story. This is not really a copy-pasted SPYxFamily, despite what everyone who hasn't seen it thinks (I did get that impression at first).

Two professional assassins suddenly becoming responsible for raising a small child. On paper, Buddy Daddies already sounds like a premise designed for both chaos and warmth. The idea alone suggests a playful mix of action, comedy, and heartfelt found-family moments. Stories built around such contrasts often rely on the tension between two incompatible worlds. One defined by violence and survival, whilst the other by care, patience, and responsibility. In theory, this setup opens the door to both entertaining situations and meaningful character growth. The story follows Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa, two professional hitmen who share not only their line of work but also a cramped apartment and a loosely organized daily routine. Kazuki is expressive, loud, and surprisingly capable when it comes…

Came into this show wtih zero context, expecting seasonal yaoi slop and watched it as a joke at first. 3 episodes in I said F it I'll keep watching. Now here I am writing a positive review which I rarely do. Just wanted to write this because I don't want it to give others the same misguided first impressions as I did. From the outside the show doesn't look like it'll hold up well but it REALLY surprised me. Comparing this to Spy x Family would be an insult to Buddy Daddies. It doesn't over-do anything and has a perfect balance between what a story needs to be complete and what the audience wants to be satisfied. This 12 episode anime original does a pretty good job covering any plot holes and as a casual viewer, I am very pleased where it ended. I'd be very keen to invest more time into t…

Was pleasantly surprised with how this anime ended up being. As a slice-of-life enjoyer, I really liked this story a lot. Even though this anime isn't specifically a SOL, it had a lot of aspects of one that I enjoy. My main focus when looking for slice-of-life is the mundaneness of it all. There are plenty of mundane moments to go around in this anime. Even so, there is also a good deal of action to keep you entertained as well. There are also definitely times where it gets more serious but I think it's put in tastefully where it isn't drawn out for too long and still keeps it's light-hearted atmosphere. That is the beauty of an original single-season anime with no manga. I really liked the companionship between the two main characters and how their relationship is shown to progress not o…

This anime is much more interesting than spyxfamily honestly and much more real. The reviews saying the child is annoying and unbearable are in my opinion blissfully unaware how totally realistic the character is. Children are naive and happy which makes them blessings but are terribly high maintenance and clingy. Sometimes they don’t understand why things have to be the way they are and buddy daddies craftily navigates some serious topics for real life people to relate to. No one is gonna relate to assassin parents but we can always have a laugh when they have trouble with a hyperactive adorably annoying toddler and a cry when the ideal “family” is not always what everyone else has but family you make yourself through hard work and struggles. I so enjoyed this short journey and related so…

My go-to good-time anime recommendation!! Spy x Family has the basic elements to be popular, but this show takes the same prompt to a WHOLE different level. The characters' dynamics and personalities between the two is very similar, but don't let it scare you away. Buddy Daddies brings a much funnier and less "obvious" humor into the plot, which ultimately makes it more enjoyable to watch. I think I audibly laughed more with these 12 episodes than with 80% of other animes I've watched. On top of that, the character designs and color scheme brings a joyful feeling to the show, contrasting with its dark beginning and violent scenes. Mix in cute characters and an amazing duality between wholesome and danger and you'll get the recipe that makes this anime so addictive.

Spy X Family if it was good. This anime is adorable, putting two unlikely candidates into the role of fathers and having them step up to the job. It has incredible emotional value, a tense, eventful plot, and a wholesome ending. The dichotomy between the two MCs, and how that applies to how they work and how they raise their newly adopted child is very fascinating, fun and entertaining. Miri herself is a very cute character and the show really sells you on her just being a good kid who deserves loving parents, just as all children do. So seeing them step up to the job in their own unorthodox ways trying to learn just how to raise a kid is great to watch. It hits all the marks it can. Give it a watch for sure.

Watched on: 10 April 2025 I have no idea why I watched this so late. It’s a family-comedy-drama with action and emotions. At first it feels like a fun action series but by the end it really gets to you. I didn’t expect it and I’m sure many others won’t either. The story follows two assassins — Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa — who live together and never miss their targets. But everything changes when a little girl named Miri enters their lives. From that point on the story shifts and becomes more about parenting, growth and relationships. You’ll see gunfights, blood and missions but also heartwarming scenes that show how these two cold assassins slowly turn into caring father figures. The animation is clean, music and sound effects are great and Miri’s Hindi voice is so cute and lovable. M…

Brief & Spoiler Free. I watched this anime back in 2023 when it first came out, and Buddy daddies coming out around the high of Spy x Family definitely had me (and I'm sure a lot of other people) skeptical and prepared to see any repetitive plots or character tropes to eye roll at. But surprisingly, the anime was really good and introduces characters with unique personalities, backstories, character dynamics and an overall plot that deals with completely different themes than its popular counterpart. If anything, this anime really just made me realize how much I actually enjoy the whole "Killer parents and found families" trope, with how wholesome the character interactions are between Kazuki, Rei and Miri, and how they gradually begin to care for one another as the show goes on. My onl…

These daddies are my buddies, and their daughter is a darling. The art work is fine, maybe a tick above average. Nothing to knock your socks off, but professionally rendered. There is some masterful background work in some episodes. I'd call the animation just average though. It started off good, but the quality slid toward the end. There is some well done CGI, but then there are a couple CGI scenes that were kind of clunky; not distracting, but noticeable. In particular the car animation was only so-so. Where this title truly shines, though, is in the character designs. They are all great. Miri and Anya need to have a cuteness showdown. The male MCs are well written and rounded. Even secondary characters are more than props. The characters are comfortably familiar but they aren't too cl…

Short. That's all the negative about the Anime itself. It was good, but it would have taken 2x as much time to have a better story, because the ending is like I came, I saw, I conquered XD, but ... Get a fair ending, rather than never experiencing the end of this one! It's really short, but despite the brevity they were able to keep the humor, drama, family atmosphere, change and the development of our characters in balance, even they kept them fast and short! But as I said, it's good in itself that it gets a fair ending in only 12 episodes and that ending scene was cute and perfect. 8/10! If you like the Spy x Family series, you'll like this one too.

This anime had several moments that made my heart ache, especially when they both sat and watch the kid simply being a kid and realized some deeper stuff about parenting or just having someone in your life. Those scenes were particularly moving. I was hoping for more focus on Rei and his father in that one episode—I really wanted to learn more about his past. Overall, it's a great show with a satisfying ending. Being a parent myself made me laugh so hard at some point and it has good life lessons for young adults imo. I'd say you should give this anime a try.

As a "rival" to Spy x Family, Bubby Daddies has much in common. However, I'd like to say that even though I really like Spy x Family, I'd much prefer rewatching this over that latter. The humor is balanced and doesn't seemed forced and isn't over the top as it is in Spy x Family. The main characters Kazuki, Rei and even Miri are very likable and are more than just their generic tropes. Miri especially, as she is one, if not the best portrayal of a child I've seen in anime. She's very realistic, with interests, how curious she is and how she acts with other characters. I especially like what Kazuki and Rei go through to provide for her and the struggles of learning to parent a child. They don't just "get the hang of it" day one and that is as realistic as it can get with real life. Animati…

Unlike "Spy x Family", "Buddy Daddies" is a one season anime, so the story is shorter. In Spy x Family the story is slow and no character evolves, unlike Buddy Daddies which shows us the evolution of each character during the anime. (especially in episodes 7, 8 and 12.) The story, the characters and especially the ending of this anime are fabulous! Animation- 7/10 (the animation is ok) Art Style- 8/10 (the style of the anime is like "Link Click") Story- 9/10 (the story is like "Spy x Family" but its still original) Characters- 9/10 (Rei is a really good character) OP- 8/10 ED-8/10 End- 10/10 (perfect end) This is my first review.

Just wow, an anime with a well-done ending? Who would have thought it could be done? The music is fantastic, the animation is good, and the characters are compelling. I saw a lot of people compare this to Spy × Family. While I still prefer Spy × Family, this did a better job of balancing humor and seriousness, unlike Spy × Family, which exaggerates the comedy way too much, making it silly. The only parts I felt were a little silly were the bullet hell missing and the way they solved the final problem, but those are minor complaints. The parents are compelling and entertaining, with Ryo being the most compelling. Seeing his development throughout the series was phenomenal. Miri is an adorable child; I wish we got more scenes with her in the school, but it's hard to do so much in 12 episodes…
