Kranst
An entertaining premise tarnished by horrible production values. Action series often live or die depending on their animation quality. Moreover, most of these stories are narratively lacking, which delegates much of the heavy-lifting to the high-octane combat. Record of Ragnarok falls into the latter, with still frames, rotating images, and artificial movement littered throughout. Furthermore, whether from the original work or anime, the writing is average at best. Characters are hardly explored, backstories feel like inserted intermissions, concepts are loosely explained, and the overarching plot feels unimportant. The music is solid, but besides the absurd, referential matchups, there is little else here that works successfully.

Record of Ragnarok is the ultimate ""tournament arc"" distilled into its purest form. It is a series that lives and dies by its ""Engaging Premise,"" pitting the most legendary figures of human history against the pantheons of ancient gods. At a 7/10, it is a high-stakes spectacle that manages to be ""Epic"" in scale, even when its technical execution struggles to keep up with its grand ambitions.
● Short Synopsis
Every 1,000 years, the Council of Gods assembles to decide the fate of humanity. Deciding that humans are a ""horrible, disgusting"" blight on the planet, the gods vote for total extinction. However, the Valkyrie Brunhilde invokes ""Ragnarok""—a final struggle where 13 mortal champions must face 13 gods in one-on-one combat. To stand a chance against the ""overpowered"" divine…

(Analysis of the entire anime)
The anime's concept is very good; gods versus historical figures is something very interesting and fun to watch. Given Shinya Umemura's great creativity, it's a good title.
However, the anime has several problems, the main one being the animation—an extremely ugly slideshow. The third season gets rid of this, but it still looks simple and ugly.
The first episode is quite good, but then it becomes awful. From the first fight to the third, the anime is very ugly and doesn't do 10% of what the manga does. The fourth fight is very good, the fifth is horrendous, the sixth is the same, the seventh is good but still has ugly moments, the eighth fight is horrible, the ninth is mediocre. In short, much more than half of the anime's fights (which is the anime's tota…

I watched this anime hoping to be entertained. The fights shown in the trailer looked exciting and gave the impression that the show might be worth watching. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a complete mistake. The story could hardly be more unoriginal.
The gods in heaven have had enough of humanity because humans pollute the Earth, wage wars, and destroy everything. After all the gods agree to wipe out mankind, the protagonist of the series appears, a demigoddess, and calls out that humanity should be given a chance and challenged in battle. When the gods laugh at this suggestion, she provokes them by claiming that the gods are afraid of humans and therefore do not want to fight them. Feeling insulted in their honor, the gods eventually agree. As a result, the Ragnarok tournament is…

I'm a fan of mythology and folklore. Mistake number 1.
So I went into this one blind. Mistake number 2.
After hearing the premise decided to lower my standards because clearly this is going to be an action series with the focus on the fighting scenes not actual mythology. Mistake number 3 and the show is OUT!
Yeah this is bad, this is really bad.
The premise is stupid. The gods decided to do away with mankind. Which ones? All of them. Norse, Greek, Hindu...etc. Not like most of them are just the same god that got adopted into the next civilization with a facelift or new wardrobe. Obviously nothing strange about having Odin and Zeus in the same room.
It's also hilarious that the first fighter is Thor. You know, the god of thunder and protector of mankind? The human race is literally…

Take a extremely simple propose and do it very well and you have a hype and fun show to watch, make it look cool and you are already adding way more points to that, so what happens when you remove 80% of an already simple propose ? You have this garbage.
Snv is already beyond simple, famous human figures vs gods from different religion/mitology and the Manga is very fun, with some good backgrounds and a lot of creativity but by far the thing that make this manga shiny is his visuals, but what if we take this completely, i mean COMPLETELY, AND WITH COMPLETELY I M LITERALLY SAYING COMPLETELY,then you have the anime version, is literally a slideshow, you CANT find this interesting if you are above 9yo and I say this when my cousin(11yo) find this shit completely garbage and would sleep watch…

Start of review is in paragraph two.
Record of Ragnarok is a series about how the gods of different mythologies came together a LONG LONG time ago and were deliberating whether to wipe the human race from existence or to let them carry on as they were. It was deemed that a competition of God Vs. Human would take place. Then show centers around this theme and I honestly had my hopes elevated pretty high because of the concept and I had some of the gods, and humans that duel told to me.
Now I will start by saying that this show is by no means horrendous. I actually like the bouts that were chosen in the first season, but one or two things they do in carrying out the show really drag it down and ultimately turn it from a potential 8 or 9 to a borderline 5 or 6.

Firstly, I'd like to preface this as someone who has NOT read the manga yet, but I do plan to eventually. This anime is actually genuinely really good, and I think you should give it a shot. When you first go into it, it feels ridiculous. The concept of actual historical figures and gods fighting to the death is strange and weird, the designs for said historical figures and gods make you laugh. But as you go...it's insane. Like in a good way. You get hit with emotions more and more, every time it starts to just feel silly again, you're thrown back into it all. Genuinely a good time watching, and I highly recommend it. This makes me WANT to start the manga, and I absolutely will.

In short: Watch only if you have patience. Otherwise read the manga.
After being in my bucket list ever since it first aired back in 2021, I decided to give it a watch just now, and I must say that this anime is NOT accurate lore-wise. And the pacing is just another letdown.
If you are looking for cool fights, and
you are not into mythologies and stuff, not sensitive, and ok with weird logic, then you can watch it. For someone who is interested in mythologies, this anime was hurting to watch. The power scaling is also not good.
Animation and pacing are just another letdown, I wasn't expecting much of it anyway but whatever I was expecting it was NOT this. The animation gets somewhat better in Season 2, but the pacing is still slow.
If you are into mangas, then I'd prefer you to read m…

This anime is what happens when you take a promising concept/manga, the tell the studio to produce it with a tenth of the budget you initially promised.
Coming from a non manga reader, the entire concept seemed super enticing: Famous human in history fighting powerful Gods in mythology. The anime does a good job in providing flavourful and conceptually fresh designs for well know figures such as Loki or Jack the ripper.
Unfortunately this is almost all the good thing I can say about the anime.
I have heard previously that watching Record of Ragnarok is basically watching a PowerPoint presentation, and it was not wrong. So many frames are shown as still pictures toggling between one another where animation should have occurred instead. Even when animation did occur, it was neither flash…

Well if you're looking for a fight-based series this one might just be it!
Two teams with several different powers display the colours of their true strenght upon challenging times to protect mankind's existence. You'd start thinking something like "Oh but how can these guys lose they are actually superior than the others". Well my friend I'm sorry to tell you but you might just have missed a point. Some plot twists happen during these same fights than turn them upside down just like in WWE you know what I'm saying.
Also it is not that long so you might just well give it a try. Your willingness to sleep won't overcome your willingness to finish the series trust me. One point that is not iin favor of its excellence is the fact that I personally do not like unfishined business so now I'm ju…

Short Review:
Record of Ragnarok is completely unique in a couple of ways. First, the show somehow absolutely enthralls and captures attention on its fights even though it has borderline terrible animation. I think this is because the show does an excellent job of building the legend and grandeur of its characters through telling their story. This leads into its second unique aspect — the show actually attaches us to the short-lived characters it introduces through their backstory and somehow makes us take everything seriously amongst its entirely cheesy, yet fun, backdrop (tournament of gods versus humans is so over the top).

I've watched the anime record of ragnarok 50 times on netflix, in my opinion this anime is good but not very good.
Firstly, the story is anti-mainstream, where this anime tells a story about Gods fighting humans. Every 1000 years the Gods of each pantheon hold a conference to decide the fate of humanity. where in a conference the gods unanimously decided that humanity should be ended or destroyed. but at the last second before the verdict was approved, a Valkyrie intervened and put forward a bold proposal to let humans determine their fate by letting them fight the gods in a series of one-on-one battles to see if they deserved to continue to exist, called ragnarok. Ragnarok is humanity's final struggle against the gods. The incident is described in paragraph 15 of article no. 62 in the Va…

Ugh, what's there to say. This is such a great concept but it's ruined by absolutely garbage animations and terrible glacial pacing. I had to speed up the show to 1.25x speed to keep myself from outright quitting it. The writing is pretty bad for the most part too but I can completely forgive it if the concept is enticing or the animations are great, sadly it's only the concept itself which keeps me interested.
Luckily it's only the first season which is so atrociously bad, luckily it improves somewhat in every single aspect with the start of season two.
I wouldn't really recommend watching this show unless you're a fan of the manga or you're really curious about the show, but watch it at 1.2x speed (or higher), you'll thank yourself for not wasting any more time than absolutely needed.

The very first fight was bad. I nearly stopped watching this anime after the first fight. What was bad about it? How slow it went. I watched a lot of anime, but this was ridiculously annoying. I mean the following:
The Thor is raising his hammer and then for the next 5 minutes here what is happening: "Oh no, he raises his hammer!" "Oh no, he is going to hit him!" "Oh no, it's the end"! "It's the end for him now for sure"! "Ah, I can't watch, it's the end"! Bum blum, the action is now on Thor who is still raising his hammer. He is still raising it for a minute. "Ha, these people wanted to challenge gods!" "He will kill him now"! "Oh no, he is raising his hammer"!
I'm not sure what happened later, either I got used to this ridiculousness, but I think the fights just became better from the s…

The moment I saw this on Netflix I was immediately in love with the series. Like I stopped scrolling put it on and was like OMG this is unique! The fights are incredible and have you on the edge of your seat and the characters are just amazing! Some of the best character design I have ever seen! I love the feel of this series and the tournament arc style.
I picked up the manga and I have to say I'm a big fan of both! This is anime follows the manga and does it great justice. There both really good and equally impressive. People seem to think that all animation needs to be Demon Slayer quality in order for anything to be good and that's just sad and not true. Also, people seem to think all anime needs to look the same and have the same animation. They forget its a tournament arc series. Th…

Wow. This show is shite. I'm sorry. It's really really poor. I also want to make this clear too, though I will not post the review until I have finished it, I started writing it 5 minutes into episode 4 and finished it by the end. It is complete trash and will explain why
Story is all sorts of crap. Zeus and Odin, in the same story?! Who the f**k did the research for this. Shiva? F**king Shiva?! The introduction to the story starts abruptly, sadly, it doesn't finish as such. Within minutes, with no context, a tournament starts between Gods and Mortals. Despite its abrupt introduction, this should be great. Guess what though, you never will so I'll tell you, it's not good at all. It's cheesy but not in a funny way, it's dramatic but not in an exciting way and is essentially everything that…

So this is a anime concept so simple that you would think it would be hard to mess up, but here we are with a very mediocre anime. The dialogue is so over the top that it turns basic conversation into a cringe-fest. It’s so overwhelming that listening to these characters talk can be a endurance test of patience at times. It’s very clear that the fighting was supposed to be the focus here and, to be fair, there is salvageable ideas about these fights that are interesting. You can tell that the mangaka did their research and put most of their time and effort into rebooting certain historical aspects to fit the plot and coming up with fights that would be entertaining. There were twists and turns in every fight that made me wonder who was going to win each encounter. The problem is that the s…

* The portrayal of Lord Shiva as an oni not only lacked understanding and respect but also disregarded the cultural significance attached to such a revered deity.
* The lack of effort in developing the backstories of the characters was evident, leaving them shallow and unexplored. This resulted in a significant missed opportunity to create compelling characters that could have enhanced the overall storytelling.
* Furthermore, the poor execution of character appearances, especially when dealing with deities, showcased a lack of research and attention to detail.
* Regrettably, the detrimental pacing of the story further hindered the overall viewing experience. In summary, this overhyped anime's disappointing adaptation fell short in multiple aspects, ultimately leaving me unsatisfied.

What a waste, they took a pretty fun manga and animated it so miserably bad it pisses one off. Massive disappointment, being a manga focused on fights the adaptation should have worked better on animating the fights instead of making them look like a powerpoint. If you're interested just read the manga instead.
You will probably enjoy the characters but the animation ruins everything, keep that in mind if you're going to watch it, if you read the manga and want to watch the anime, you're probably going to feel disappointed. Wish some decent studio take it in the future and starts animating it with effort and love from the beginning, but I doubt that will ever happen in the future.
