Was looking for CGDCT and found this MASTERPIECE.
Sora no Woto is one of animes most overlooked hidden gems, its a masterpiece that mixes slice of life, drama, and post apocalyptic themes and CGDCT (which is the thing i like). Like most people who probably watched the 1st episode, this anime seems like a "Moe-flop" kind of show, it looks like and feels like a lighthearted anime about "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things" in the military. Well its still is, but that first impression is one of the most misleading things of this anime.
In the first episode we follow Kanata, a girl who joins the military because she dreams of learning to play the Trumpet/Bugle. She is assigned to 1121st Platoon in the town of Seize, where she meets four other soldiers (Rio best girl). But in episode 2 it introduce…

A genuinely solid show with a really unique setting that it unfortunately doesn't take advantage of.
To briefly summarize the show's setting in order to understand this review a bit better: It takes place in a technologically advanced and futuristic world that has been ravaged by countless centuries of war, causing global civilization to devolve back into a WW1-era state. Japan, specifically, regressed into an amalgamation of traditional Japanese culture and WW1-era rural France. You meet Kanata, one of our protagonists, who enlists into the military and is deployed to a military base within a town that borders on the front lines, which only houses the runts of military.
Sounds interesting, right? Until you watch the show and realize it doesn't really do much with this setting and inste…

(REVIEW THAT ISN'T AN ESSAY + NO SPOILERS)
So basically, if you be liking the kinda post-apocalyptic stuff, and some religious/spiritual themes then you'll be vibing with it. Complete story, definitely slice of life heavy so if you have tiktok brain it might be too slow pace. Occasional darker themes but in religious/spiritual contexts.
Genuinely one of the most unique/interesting settings and solid characters that I can in fact remember the names of. No romance, nothing super cringe, just some good vibes. Probably also a band kid show so I don't be knowing anything about that stuff, but it was cool anyway.
Also, probably one of the best outro songs of all time, and a solid intro too.

Honestly, it's a very interesting and complex but also relaxing anime, I discovered this beautiful work of art by chance, it was worth spending my time giving this anime a chance, it really deserved a second season or if possible some special episodes to find out what happened after the end of the story. I recommend and recommend
*animation*
Even though it is very old, it has beautiful animation, so it was adapted by the A-1 studio, we noticed that the quality is very good, even the character designer is very animated and very fluid, so I have nothing to complain about.

"The war ended. You're just the last remnant. Humanity...the world can never regain the glory it once had. So end it. It must be far too painful, living a miserable life in a world filled with despair. Is there some meaning to survival in a world like this?"
It's easy to write Sound of the Sky off as a military flavored K-On clone, and I certainly see where that assertion might come from, but I am here to tell you how very wrong that is. Sound of the Sky is not just a military themed show about moe and music, but a story of recovery, companionship, finding purpose in life, the universal healing power of music, and the horrors of war.
The thing about Sound of the Sky is that, as a slice of life, it is very slow moving. It takes time to savor its setting and characters while it slowly ease…

In that mix of mid-00's anime like Haibane Renmei and Aria that are slice-of-life with a cast of women and girls in an alien-but-comfortable world, it might have been up there with my favorites if I hadn't taken a couple decades to catch up with it. It falls in the middle of these of how REAL it gets, occasionally dipping into dark backstories of the characters and the world, but still keeps a friendly tone. You're not going to be looking at the darkest parts of these people's souls, but as a military base on the border with a country that they had just been warring with, there are plenty of fresh scars.
If there is a criticism to have, it tends to snap back to its normal state of affairs a bit too easily. If it's your comfort food, that's no problem, but even Aria eventually acknowledges…

A poor man's 86 and girl's last tour. Great designs as expected from A1 but bog standard tropes and mishmash of ideas. There's only so many times hearing amazing grace can save a show. The show can't decide whether it wants to be slice of life or drama and ends up being nothing in particular. While some people might be able to give this anime a pass simply for cute girls doing cute things, your time will likely be better spent on any other anime. Where 86 had intense action and shock value and girl's last tour had emotional and poignant moments, So Ra No Wo To will just end up leaving you with a jumbled mess of ideas wondering why you bothered watching it and should make everyone more weary of "original" anime series.

Look, this show looks pretty ridiculous from the outside. I promise it makes total sense in the universe of the show, even though said universe is quite dark. For reasons I can't get into without spoiling the show, this little platoon is basically a little charity home for misfits run by the military. Someone owes someone a favor, so why not let them maintain a little garrison of people who have no business on the front lines? It's not like anything is going to happen in this peaceful town anyway.
If you're looking for a show about war, then Sora no Woto is not for you. This show is about peace. It's here to make you value peace and fear war (as well you should). Maybe a few of the episodes will make you wish more was happening, but in the end, the show does a masterful job of making you…

How to write a masterpiece - Sound of the Sky.
So Ra No Wo To ( Sound of the Sky ) had so much potential. It was unarguably one of the most impactful anime I have ever watched. Set in an era where mankind is about to cease to exist, this anime is a story all about war and how sound can resonate with others.
For the majority of the story, So Ra No Wo To goes through all the main characters and flaunt a gist of their backstories. With a little of post-society slice of life in action to give about pretty much what you get from every slice of life. The tranquil, restfulness of everyday life. The story gets more captivating as it progresses from a mediocre slice of life into an entity of sadness. You could say that this anime is probably one of the best build-up types of anime where if you…

Welcome to another installment of Robert's Too Late Reviews! I'm throwing down with the sub version today. I just adore music, I learned to play simple instruments as a young child, and moved on to full brass in my high school years. As a player and a listener I adore the tuba and the trumpet, and so when I saw an anime about a bugler (which is a primitive trumpet) I *knew* I had to see it, and boy am I glad I did! Let's check out what song the sky is singing!
Story: 9
In the vein of further disclosure, I love nearly all kinds of music, and find great enjoyment in it. I was the tuba player in high school that equally dropped the bass line for Salt and Peppa's "Push It" just as often as I played Beethoven in my free time. I mention in my profile that I have several anime figures, the bulk…

Since it seems impossible to address So Ra No Wo To without mentioning this, let me begin by talking about the elephant in the room: no, this anime is not just K-On! but in the military. Yes, it has central cast of five cute girls; yes, it has virtually the same artstyle; and, yes, it has music and slice of life elements. But beyond this superficial level, the shows are entirely different. I love K-On! to death, but if you come into this show expecting cute, low-stakes misadventures and happy tales of adolescence, you will be in for a surprise.
Okay, glad we got that one cleared up.
Enough about what So Ra No Wo To isn't. Let's talk about what it is. As the plot synopsis suggests, this anime follows Kanata Sorami, an rather naïve 15-year-old bugler who joins a group of four military offi…

SPOILERS BELOW. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
So. Ra. No. Wo. To. The sound of the sky that pierces the heavens. Yet another anime set in a post-apocalyptic world, but this time with some moe appeal to brighten up your day.
Sound of the Sky is an interesting anime. Rather than being adapted months or years later from a successful manga or light novel, it actually aired along with its manga serialization. Consequently, it features the blessing and curse of being an original, one that forges its own path without the pressure of living up to its source material’s reception.
With no better words to describe it, I found the Sound of the Sky to be a disappointing anime. The opening, performed by Kalafina, is truly killer, and actually does an excellent job of prefacing the post-apocalyptic world in…

A fantastic story with a bit of a misleading description that could've greatly benefited from a slower pace spread between two or three seasons (I'll dig into the pacing later). Sound of the Sky is a military slice of life at its core, and had very little to do with music aside from one character who only focuses on the musical aspect of this show in a handful of scenes spread thin and widely across twelve episodes. Many people relate Sound of the Sky to K-On! and I just do not see the relation whatsoever. These are both two fantastic and incredibly enjoyable shows, but for wildly different reasons. This isn't strictly a bad thing, I just wanted to get it out of the way before I get into the many good aspects this show has to offer you as a viewer.
The story of Sound of the Sky is the spo…

“On the outskirts of the country of Helvetia rests the tranquil town of Seize. Upon its cobbled streets, citizens go about their daily lives, undisturbed by the increasingly tense military relations between Helvetia and the neighboring Roman Empire. It is under these circumstances that the 1121st platoon of the Helvetian army, stationed at the Clocktower Fortress in Seize, receives a new recruit in the young and spirited Kanata Sorami. Having joined the military to fulfill her dream of learning to play the bugle, she excitedly accepts the tutelage of the Sergeant Major, Rio Kazumiya, who happens to be a skilled trumpeter. Working alongside them are the aloof mechanic, Noël Kannagi, the feisty gunner, Kureha Suminoya, and the compassionate Captain Felicia Heideman; together, they experience…

SPOILER WARNING
So Ra No Wo To surpassed my expectations. I’ve forgotten how I came across this anime or why I began to watch it, but I was not disappointed. (This is quite rambly and all over the place, I apologize!)
Of course, as many before me have stated, this anime isn’t perfect. There are many situations that I wish were handled differently, characters that I wish had gotten treated differently, etc. However, going into this having heard many folks call this “K-ON! But in the military”, it blew me away.
I was worried that the characters would just be shells of archetypes and common tropes many of us see in anime. I was pleasantly surprised with the depth many of these characters have. The main five girls not only support, teach and listen to one another, but they are each naviga…

Everybody has that one show that really REALLY gets them interested in the wider world of whatever medium that show is linked to. Before this one in particular, anime was something that just existed to me, all anime was just edgier cartoons when I was growing up. I watched series like Dragon Ball and Yu Yu Hakusho thinking they were everything anime was. I was a dumb kid and all that mattered to me was the spectacle, but on whim, the series in question brought me to understand a lot more about myself then I thought I did.
As a young man at the time, I was pretty hard to impress and mostly went into anything not expecting much of value. I was not one for subtlety and quietness or even anything requiring much thought. However, almost immediately, the atmosphere of it all grabbed me by the b…

If somebody ask me Why i watched this anime then i will say because of the slice of life genre. Slice of life is one of my favorite genre so whenever i found one i watch it. I was searching for a good anime to watch and i found one. So Ra No Wo To or Sound of the sky is really a beautiful name and the same can be said for the anime. It was really good. It exceeded my expectations.
Story and Art: 8
When i watched the trailer of this anime i was quite disappointed with the art but after completing the series i can say that art was really good. It was quite different from other anime which i have already completed. It was really good. Story of the anime was also good. One of the genre of anime is military but it was not same anime as others like Youjo senki or Gate. This anime made me smile…

So Ra No Wo To is an original anime brought to us by A-1 Pictures. Yes, the studio behind Kuroshitsuji, Uchuu Kyoudai, Sword Art Online & Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin is back. Or, more accurately, I'm looking at one of their works again. Thus far, my experience with them as a studio has varied a lot. With Uchuu Kyoudai being at the high end and Sword Art Online on the low, because it's shit. This particular series is from 2010 and was relatively early in terms of their productions. It was written by Yoshino Hiroyuki, speaking of people I have mixed experiences with. Yeah, this bloke also wrote Shuumatsu no Izetta, which was a great series and Dance in the Vampire Bund, which will always be remembered as utter rubbish. So, this one is a gamble. I'd give it about 50-50 odds.

So Ra No Wo To is such an anime, that, I believe, it surpasses the 10-point system.
People compare it to K-On!, but I feel that is unfair. Don't get me wrong, I gave K-On! series a 10/10, but Sora No Woto is more, it at least 12.
First, it has the perfect blend of plot, character, SoL, and moe. For me, this blend made it really enjoyable to watch. There is a bit of plot pushing the whole thing on, and the arc works across the whole series. The pacing, I found, was really quite good, and so was the character development. You really got to see each character in the great detail here (or as much you could with just one season).
The sound, the art, all very good. The story: even though it may be a slice of life, even people who normally don't like SoL will take a liking to this one.

One anime which was recommended by a friend who kept pestering me to watch it. So after watching it, here's my review.
First of, the story. The story is about the protagonist entering the military to learn how to play the trumpet and her interactions with her platoon-mates and the townspeople. I didn't really find the story overly interesting, it was ok with a few cry-able moments, but pretty average for me. So a 7/10.
The art was good. I felt that the animation was nicely done with quite a lot of details being put into the art. Hence, I'm rating it as a 9/10
Now for the best thing about the anime: The sound, more specifically, the music. The opening was great, kinda sounded like an folks-tale type of song. But my favorite was Amazing Grace. Wonderfully and beautifully played by the pro…
