Just putting this review out there because I feel bad that it seems to have more bad reviews than good ones.
I think it’s a good anime if you base it on the story rather than the animation and, I guess, some of the voice acting.
If you’re expecting a full-blown shounen like Jujutsu Kaisen or animation like Demon Slayer, then this is probably not for you. This anime is more of a slow-paced drama with a drizzle of action.
I like how the MC isn’t a total prodigy. Unlike other isekai where the characters’ powers are always portrayed as amazing, in TBATE, the MC has limitations for logical reasons. He isn’t just a powered-up baby because he came from another world. Instead, he uses the understanding and experience from his previous life to gain more knowledge and gradually make himself stron…

The rating is unjustifiably low so I had to leave a review.
This is a good anime about a man who used to be a warrior king being reborn into a world of magic. Its very much like many isekai but the protagonist takes the journey more seriously and discovers many things about himself. He grows in strength quickly but is generally not over powered. I would say the story is light hearted adventure with some serious parts and would compare it plot wise as a cross between Frieren and Mushoku Tensei. Definitely underrated!
Story: Light hearted adventure of a boy growing up and learning about his world and gaining strength
Art/Style: Art is average, nothing particularly wrong but nothing stunning either.
Characters: The main character is the focus, and somewhat on his family, it does not dive mu…

I recommend this anime to people who care more about story and drama than animation.
This is one of the 6/10 scores I give with the most sadness on this site, simply because the animation is the only thing holding it back. If the animation were just decent, this would easily be an 8 or 9! Yes, EASILY! (Of course, within the isekai genre.)
The reason is simple: this anime has genuinely great lore. It’s basically Mushoku Tensei without the protagonist being a weird creep. You get a rich world, interesting powers, and compelling characters without having to deal with an awful main character. His background before being reincarnated is genuinely interesting, and the lore involving his parents, the world, and the conflict between races is very well developed. His relationship with th…

Judging *The Beginning After the End* is quite complicated, mainly because the original work has an excellent reputation and many people consider the anime adaptation to be below its potential. However, for this review, I will only focus on the anime itself, since that is the only version I have experienced so far.
At first, I think the story has genuine strengths. The series introduces interesting questions, creates mysteries, and gives the viewer a reason to continue watching in order to understand the world and the protagonist’s situation.
However, the first major issue appears quickly with the production quality. During the first season, the animation is clearly below the level I expected based on the reputation of the original work. Some important moments lack impact and do not rece…

It's getting carried by the source material. This animation, cinematography, and everything about it are horrible. It feels like a generic isekai, and I hate that its being branded as that because of its shit quality. I haven't read the novel, but I can tell that this would have been one of the best isekais easily if it received proper care.
Why did a story like this get berserk-level treatment, and a show like Mushoku Tensei get One Piece treatment? It has to be because of the lack of fan service. This show has damn near zero fan service, which is so refreshing compared to most anime and it gets fucked over. I get that most fans of this genre are lowkey lolicons and freaks, but there is no way the director didn't see value in this show.
Anyways, sad to see a good story get ruined by shi…

I'm genuinely confused how an anime like this gets scored the way it does. The only logical answer is Mushoku Tensei fanboys rioting because this anime is simply it but better in every way. Funny how the main character not lusting after every child somehow leads to lower scoring.
The story is very interesting, diverting from bog standard isekai where some loser neet dies and reincarnates with a bunch of overpowered abilities. Here we have a tyrant warrior king essentially being given a second chance, with much of the anime featuring a voiceover from his past self. It's a very interesting dynamic and gives actual reasoning behind him being a skilled warrior.
Every ounce of power the main character has feels earned, and he is constantly humbled by characters more powerful than he is. It's…

The beginning after the end is a very particular anime; it draws a lot of inspiration from Mushoku Tensei it feels like, at least for the early episodes, and I think this is a big reason for its low ratings. To an extent, it is unoriginal, this and Isekai burnout, since an Isekai in itself feels unoriginal to many at this point in 2026. There are a lot of common tropes in this story, but at the same time, they feel modified. Maybe the author drew direct inspiration from other sources. This anime did feel a little formulaic, but it is a far more mature and serious show than its predecessor.
I find the idea of a despot king restarting life from scratch, with an insular view of the world, and only the experience of being a realistic king (Being raised to govern, dealing with corruption, etc)…

I've seen many people say how great the manga is, and you can see there is a good epic story in this anime. Sadly that's the only thing good about it, because the anime is produced to incredibly poorly that it's difficult to enjoy watching it even with the underlying story. There are constant still pans with voice overs and choppy animations like the show has zero budget. Even the art is sometimes bad. This is definitely a time where it'd have been better to not produce the anime at all than end up with something so cheap it's frustratingly unwatchable. I suffered through it anyway in the hope season two would be better, but it's not. Save yourself the time; I wish I hadn't bothered.

Trash anime should have stick to the manhwa, don't watch this.
If you really watch this then good luck, your life will be ruined by this anime. It's 2nd to One Punch Man's animation, and it really sucks not deserving to have animation, it's just like your seeing a slideshow or manhwa pages scrolling up and down. for heaven's sake it's not good, if ever there is a zero rating I would literally rate it zero period.
It really sucks that it was a popular manhwa but ruined by the animation. Studios should do better it's already 2026, tools are high-tech now why can't they even work perfectly with those popular Manga, Manhwa. Chinese can do better on this cmon

I’ve followed the novel and webcomic for nearly six years, which is exactly why this adaptation feels so deeply disappointing. Watching it wasn’t just underwhelming—it was genuinely painful. I found myself forcing through each moment, seeing a story I once valued reduced to something that feels like generic isekai filler. What makes it worse is the regret it leaves behind; after that first episode, I honestly wished I had never recommended this series to anyone, knowing this might be their first impression of it. On its own, it’s merely average, but given the strength of the source material—and even the baseline quality of its animation—it falls far short of what it should have been.

Let me start by saying I am actually a fan of this novel series. The anime adaptation is so bad that I cannot recommend it to anyone
. For the first season, the story is loyal to the novel, but the animation is basically just a slideshow, so you’re much better off reading the visual novel for that part. And since they did such a “wonderful” job animating the first season, the showrunners decided that wasn’t enough. For the second season, they thought they had to go off script and add their own content, which doesn’t happen in the original novel.
Since adapting an award-winning story earned them so much praise, why not try to write their own story, right?

I have read the novel and webcomic for almost 6 years now, and this anime physically pained me to watch. I had to force myself to sit through how poorly made this adaptation is, and how much it makes it feel like standard isekai slop. I have never felt such regret for recommending a series as I did watching that first episode; it made me regret ever even recommending the novel to anyone, since it would naturally lead to watching this absolute trash. Standalone, it is fine, but I feel like even with the level of animation it has, it could've been so much better.

Do you like Isekai? Do you like Isekai slopfest? Are you desensitized by the typical isekai animation?
If your answer to all the above is yes, then you should watch TBATE. I never read TBATE webcomic or LN so my experience doesn't really affected by how different it is from the source material.
So what i can say is, TBATE anime is better than typical isekai pumped out these days although the animation is not any better. Do not come into this expecting Mushoku Tensei level of animation.
If you comes in blind as an isekai fans, you'll definitely like this anime despite the slideshow animation.

I really enjoyed Saikyou no Ousama, Nidome no Jinsei wa Nani wo Suru?—it’s a fun, satisfying isekai that hits all the right notes for me. It’s not trying to be overly deep or complex; it’s the kind of anime that’s just enjoyable from start to finish, like a solid comfort watch. The characters are interesting and well-developed, and the world feels rich without needing to over-explain everything.
Even though I’ve heard some mixed things about the animation quality, the story and character dynamics kept me hooked. It’s got that classic isekai charm—strong protagonist, cool magic, emotional moments—but with enough uniqueness to stand out. If you're into fun, character-driven isekai that feel rewarding without being too heavy, this one’s definitely worth your time.

The Beginning After the End is an anime with an interesting story but hampered by its mostly boring animation.
Don't get me wrong. I don't hate it, but I don't particularly love it either. It sits in this limbo where I like how the show follows and executes storytelling principles, but not so much that it excuses the, so to speak, minimalist animation. How "minimal" might you ask? It's to the point where a lot of scenes, particularly the fights, are essentially just slideshows of static manga panels. All the fights lack the kind of flow that happens in one. This could have been excusable if the anime wasn't a story focused on action, yet it is, so the lack of engaging animation will definitely be a turn-off for a lot of viewers.
But enough about the animation which I'm sure you've alread…

This was a nice surprise. People say that it cut a lot of moments, rushed some, and that the animation lacks quality. However, despite its flaws, I was very entertained.
The Beginning After the End reminds me of Mushoku Tensei in terms of storytelling, which is a good thing. I also like the fact that the main character comes from a more advanced world and now has to get used to living in a fantasy one. That is an interesting twist.
I hope they improve what people complained about, but for me, I’ll keep watching regardless. I see potential, and I want to see it fulfilled.

Even if you ignore the animation. The story is awful, they changed so much to make thing fix and cut out a lot of important scenes. The parts they did use where also cut short removing context and character development making events seem meaningless or outright pointless. Training is skipped or shortcut, whole world concepts are only mentioned and never explained in any kind of detail. abilities that are only found through training and hard work are basically given to him on a plate. its stupid and breaks the viewers image of the main character. then there the odd added details that make no sense. Trying to keep this spoiler free so wont go into specific examples but it makes the character look like he contradicts himself more than often.
I'm mad mainly because I love this story and its c…

This adaptation was done without proper modern execution. How can you ruin an anime with great content? Well you throw slide show like animations with silly 3d models, hollowed out character designs, and rigid pacing and you have what looks like an uninspiring adaptation made to cause disappointment. To be fair this anime may have been average if it came out in the start of the year 2000. With slideshow presentations being the rage this anime could have been good to see at your high school presentation. But animes have evolved to become more stimulating and viewers are exposed to great quality shows. Even if you know nothing about the show or anime this show does not feel the worth to see. There's no chemistry between casts. There's no emotional buildup due to its pacing. Everything seems…

Unpretentious Reviews
I liked it. Granted, I have a soft spot for Isekai. I thought it was going to be bad, based on the press it got. It's weird because the chief complaint as I understand it was bad animation quality. I didn't see any animation that was distressingly bad. I've seen the examples on Reddit that illustrate the problem, but while watching the anime I didn't notice--the intent was conveyed clearly. I've never been one to prioritize such things however. GTO, in my opinion, has terrible animation and art quality. But it's still a great show. YMMV I guess.
If anything, I feel like a lot of the story has been abbreviated, and that's unfortunate, because it's a good story. It's a good anime that could have been a great one. And if the story continues, it may still end up being g…

I’ve never left a comment on here before because I’ve never felt this strongly opposed to the majority opinion, but I genuinely do not understand a lot of the negative comments about this anime.
The biggest thing I don’t understand is the criticism of the animation. I keep seeing people talk about it as if the entire thing is basically a PowerPoint presentation, and I honestly just don’t see that at all. The animation is perfectly fine. It’s no better or worse than a lot of other anime currently being released, so the level of criticism it’s getting feels completely disproportionate to me.
The story itself is also pretty good. It’s definitely a slow burner, and I do wish season one had been given a full 24 episodes because that would have given the story much more room to breathe. There…
