Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge♥ is the antithesis of the shojo and reverse harem genres, poking fun at all the anime clichés where the plain or quiet girl in class wins over the popular boy or effortlessly befriends everyone by showcasing her hidden talents. But it doesn't limit itself to comedy; it develops a story that gradually captivates the viewer, exploring the successes and failures of people with both refined and unappealing tastes, as well as their prejudices. The romance isn't cloying, making it appealing to a wider audience.
As for the characters, I understand why everyone loves them. All the characters in this story are functional and well-developed, making this simple yet original plot very enjoyable. The protagonist, in particular, is one of the most original I've seen in this…

Finished the anime, manga, and live action back in high school 🤣 I love all adaptations. Kyohei is a tough yet sweet cookie, and our FL is a weird nonchalant strong character. The plot per episode and chapter is overly hilarious but still holds strong messages on friendship and self love. I think I need a rehash of all these now that I’m an adult! If you need a good laugh and want to destress from your current life, this is an excellent pick!
This is already a classic comedy, I hope it could have remakes both for anime and live action.

Honestly, this anime is really unique! I have never really seen a plot similar to this, moreover the fact that it did not focus on romance too. To me, it was an anime about friendship, as we could see the characters grow into each other and build tighter bonds, despite the fact that they disliked each other at first. It was also pretty funny sometimes. Beware as this anime was is quite old, so there are some jokes that are deemed to be offensive and disrespectful now (which is what icked me to be honest.)
There were tendencies when I wanted to stop watching it, but I truly wanted to see what would happen to Sunako, so I kept going on and adored her relationships with the four boys and other girl friends. One way or another, it was a wholesome watch that was chill, so if you are looking f…

Hey everyone! I just want to clarify that this anime is NOT a romance. While it may be categorized as one and the plot might suggest otherwise, it's important to approach it with that understanding. In my view, it leans more towards being a cliché comedy series. The show features quite a few flat moments and doesn’t take itself seriously at all.
When I first watched it, I was really bothered by the fact that the main character doesn’t experience any emotional growth, and the side characters often come off as superficial and unkind. At that time, I was under the impression that it was primarily a romance.
However, when I revisited it six years later, I had a completely different perspective. I realized that the true aim of the plot isn’t for the main character to end up with one of the at…

So, I know this anime is relatively “old” considering it came out sixteen years ago, but I just finished it and I wanted to leave a review about this anime. Couple days ago I happened to be scrolling through Hulu to find a anime to watch. I happened to stumble upon “The Wallflower” and thought it looked interesting so I decided to watch it. So at first I thought it was gonna be a spicy anime when I saw the opening, but the more I watched it wasn’t really spicy at all. Besides thinking it was spicy at first with the opening. I enjoyed watching this anime so much, it was funny and fun to watch. I’m sad this anime only has twenty five episodes, I know I could read the manga online to know what happens, but this anime really good. The style is outdated but I mean hey what do you expect when wa…

Initially, I struggled to adjust to the art style since it was so different compared to the animes I had been previously watching (and usually that would be a dealbreaker for me) but the story and characters made up for the sudden change. I enjoyed all the episodes (except one) so for the most each one added to the story and avoided being “filler.” I wouldn’t watch it specifically for the romance because there is barely any but the comedy aspect and the characters were worth the watch for me personally. However, at times, it was really loud and hard to have on without headphones so keep that in mind. Don’t let that deter you from watching though as it was still funny and entertaining.
Overall, I’m biased I loved the characters and story and found this to be my perfect anime so I gave it…

I watched this anime a couple of times years ago and I am recently re-watching it.
This show had loads of memorable scenes, and I have always remembered parts of it. Upon revisiting the anime I found that the animation is pretty janky and that there are a lot of parts where the artists had simplified the shapes of the people in the anime (maybe to save time? not enough budget?). Compared to something that came out in the early 90s like Ranma 1/2, or Lovely Complex that came out around the same time, this series' quality is way shoddy despite being a mid 2000s release. This would be my only criticism.
That said, I thoroughly enjoy the story and would love it if a studio would pick it up to remake it like how Fruits Basket was remade.
I really like the humour and how cool Sunako's charac…

This is more of a comedy than a semi reverse harem, and I use that word very very lightly, where the main character isn't looking for love and her harem of boys aren't looking for her love either. The main hook of this series, besides it's amazing comedy and it's amazing artstyle, is the character's shining personalities. The main character Sunako would be best described as the weird occult character you meet once in a slice of life anime, except here she's the main character and though she's mostly here to make you laugh, she's also relatable. Unlike most romance or reverse harems, my girl here isn't some blushing cutie waiting for all the boys to imprint their desires for a wifu on. She's aggressive, super shy, loves what she loves, and even if it's super weird and makes others not like…

I don’t know how I found out about this anime, but I’m glad I watched it. No doubt, the anime is 100% comedic and I enjoyed every minute.
Story: 3/10
It is basically about a gorgeous girl who got rejected by a guy in middle school, and this causes her to have very low self-esteem. Her aunt is super rich and is the landlady of a mansion, in which 4 very attractive guys live and pay rent. Unfortunately, they start to get poor and need to pay rent somehow so they agree to a deal made by the landlady. The deal consists in them helping her niece regain confidence in herself. If they succeed, they won’t be paying rent for the rest of their lives.
The show doesn’t have a real, exciting or intriguing plot. Nothing special. I believe it is because it’s supposed to be solely comedic, so if you’re…

such a stupid weird silly anime. yet i couldn't stop watching episode after episode and ended up binging the entire show in one day
story: 6/10 hot guys tries to make a weird creepy girl to a fine lady for free rent. a stupid concept it's interesting. a lot of inspiring and pretty emotional stuff in the anime but because they're never serious, really ruins it. i get that this is mainly a comedy light hearted anime but if you're gonna implement stuff like those get the characters to be a little more serious or it just comes off as forced and cringy.
characters: 5/10 again, honestly pretty decent on the base(?) i see can see their stories and they make sense but how they present it is so stupid. take main girl as an example, she became a shut in with low self confidence because she got ca…

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi henge is everything great about the noughties concentrated in 20-something episodes.
Please do not watch it expecting brilliant animation of extreme depths to the story as it a show of sheer, blissfully entertaining absurdity. It also lacks any concrete aim as it is more about the comedy as well as acceptance.
25 episodes have plenty to offer: pop culture references, social critique on consumerism and fan culture, allusions to a variety of social issues that are just as relevant now. It successfully parodies a number of anime tropes and, despite being filled with crude humour, it manages to fit in heart-warming moments seamlessly.
This has to be one of my favourite animes and I wished for it to go on and on, long after it ended.
It twisted the shoujo genre into so…

So i just finished watchig ''the wallflower'' and i have a few things to say
First of all, I was expecting a lot more from the anime but i must say i was very dissapointed from pretty much everything...the characters, the plot, the enjoyment everything was just dumb as hell and they were even times i couldnt stand watchig it.
Story: A girl suddenly has to live with 4 random guys who are supposed to turn her into a ''lady'' because her aunt requested them to do so?? just by reading this u can imagine how bad it is. I hated the fact that almost everything that was hapening in the anime had almost nothing to do with the main goal and most of the episodes felt like filler cause they werent even paying attention to turning her into a lady and they were just playing around.
I have to ment…

Don't Recommend
This is by far the worst shoujo I've completed, and its sort of a question of how bad my tastes are to watch 25 episodes of this. You learn pretty quickly what the show's animators and director were willing to do, and things don't move beyond that limit- as far as I can tell- ever. You can tell when a joke is going to be included, and when they'll try to subvert expectations.
Shows like this frustrate me looking back. The animation is bare minimum. Even Hanna Barbera made their characters look human. Far too often they used cutesy white figures as a way to stretch a few extra yen past their limit. I don't recall watching an anime and thinking, "Wow, I could have animated better than this." and yet in a sad twist of fate I seem to have done just that. It features all the f…

TL;DR: It's a fun shojo comedy that I would definitely recommend
L;DR
I was very pleasantly surprised with Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge. I found it by scrolling through recommendations from Ouran High School Host Club, and I can definitely say that both give off very similar vibes in the style of comedy and even plot.
The story begins with the whole concept of turning Sunako into a lady, but that sort of gets put on hold almost immediately. I think that the story doesn't run on the plot, but rather on the setup of the characters. The characters are pretty much what drives this anime.
More on the characters: they are very well done! The protagonist, Sunako, is very likable and a refreshing break from the shojo protagonist mold. The main four boys each have distinguished personalities, a…

This is the first time, years later, after I have watched all the series and read through most of the manga, that for some reasons I looked at the review section and I am surprised this got so low scores.
Story & Characters: yep, the story sounds cliche from the first moment on. Shy girl, a bunch of cool guys - it definitely sounds like reverse harem and you think, she will turn out beautiful, they will all fall in love with her and she will bloom like a flower... ahem, no. It's double no. Triple no. And that is why I love this story. The point of the story is acceptance, not change. I've seen many reviewers complaining there was no development in the characters - there is plenty of development. But it is slow and gradual, not as if you just wake up one day and you know something is wron…

This is going to be quite a short review since there are a lot of others who describe the story characters ect. I just wanted to share my view on this series.
I love comedy and I saw someone recommend this one on some site. So i decide to put in in my list. It took me quite a while before I actually started to watch it. Mainly because I thought is was pretty old. But last month I decide to give it a shot. First impression. How the hell am I going to get used to the artwork? Because yeah its pretty bad. The characters look like a bunch of girls drawn in a weird way. It almost made me drop the series instantly, but like every series I decide to give it a shot of at least one episode. Well, it was fun. Not hilarious but enough for me to want to see the next episode. So also with the second.…

"The Wallflower"
I think this anime is best described as 'a hidden gem'.
There really isn't anything too spectacular about this anime. I still think it is worth watching.
The story line is kind of plain. Yet humor is still prominent in it.
The art is obviously an older style but modern for the time it was made.
The sound is fine. Characters are 'unique'.
I enjoyed this anime a lot and feel like the message portrayed is to not pretend to be something you are not. You can be beautiful in your own way as long as you stay true to you. Sometimes you need to be reminded of that so I appreciate the bigger message for such an obscure anime.

This is a Reverse Harem, and it is a well done one.
You have your dose of comedy and gore and drama, all knitted perfectly.
The characters are colorful and you get your bit of social critic too, if you are paying enough attention.
The only thing that I wouldn't like about this are actually two things, and are the most common flaws of anime: the filling scenes that add nothing to the story nor the characters or even the comedy or enjoyment of the show AND how the 'ending' was done.
At this rate I am very well aware of which kind of matches I am playing with, so I already know that finding a satisfying ending in anime is like finding the frigging holy grail. Some said that somebody has found it, but nobody no longer knows where it is hidden.

At first I never really thought I was going to like it. I thought that the cover looked absolutely stupid, until the other night I was on Hulu... and I read the plot. It seemed really INTERESTING for me especially where it was giving me the all boys and 1 girl anime thing I love! Reverse Harem. I did watch the english dubbed. I know many people think the voice cast is horrible, but they did good in my opinion. I actually cried watching the final episodes.
Story: 9/10
I give the story a 9/10 because it was a great story. I just actually wished in the story we saw Yuki's family and Takenaga's family. Overall it had the perfect story line that actually helped me. The Road To Womanhood thing is actually inspiring me, I know it seems weird or strange but Noi's character had encouraged for you…

The story is actually interesting and has a unique feel to it. I absolutely love the varying degrees of humor that it displays. It has everything from lighthearted to a bit of self-depreciating humor, which keeps the plot moving and allows episodes to be exciting. Some of the episode plots can seem to be sort of an old hat to people who have watched similar series, but it didn't stop my enjoyment of the anime in the least. In fact, it kind of made the series even more exciting because I got to see the characters try to get out of the situation in a new and interesting ways. The voice acting was superb, whether you watched it in the English sub or dub. I actually enjoyed it so much that I had to watch it in both. There was only one thing that I disliked in the anime and it was the character…
