Uncle from Another World

Uncle from Another World

Introduction

After a fatal encounter with a truck, Takafumi Takaoka's uncle, Yousuke "Ojisan" Shibazaki, lies comatose for 17 years. When he finally regains consciousness, Ojisan begins to ramble in a foreign tongue and reveals that he had been transported to a magical world called Gran Bahamal. Takafumi dismisses his uncle's claims as nonsense until an incantation makes a cup of water hover in the air. In a flash of brilliance, the pair creates a YouTube channel to showcase Ojisan's magical abilities. The responsibility now falls on Takafumi's shoulders to acquaint Ojisan with everything that has transpired during his absence, including getting him up to speed with the internet, new technology, and surprisingly, the outcome of the '90s console war—the result of which was especially distressing for a hardcore SEGA fan. With Ojisan's wisdom from his other world experiences, they grow their YouTube channel and tackle online comments and trolls. The journey of this uncle-nephew duo promises to be anything but conventional. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Honestly? Handyman Saitou in Another World did it better than this show. There, I've said it. I admit the idea was interesting. Kid gets isekai'd, spends 17 years in a coma, comes back to earth where his nephew is now a grown adult, started a Youtube Channel, and the whole joke is that uncle's fantasy knowledge is stuck in like 2001 MMORPG logic while everyone treats his coma-world adventures as content. Genuinely funny first few episodes. But then it just... does that. For the entire show. The "uncle doesn't understand modern internet culture" bit gets run into the ground so hard I started doing the joke in my head before the show did, which is not a good sign for comedic timing. And the isekai flashback stuff, which should be the actual meat of the concept, gets treated like a chore…

yeah it's uhh, pretty damn good. it's funny while also being infuriating. not much needs to be said about this, simply put you'll likely laugh. a lot. this anime is incredibly silly & overly serious at the perfect moments. is the story unique? it's an absolute goddamn mess and follows no particular flow. the art style is perfect for this kind of show. the characters are... complete and utter messes. all of them. they're all satirical in some specific way and normal in the expected ways. did the characters react to situations and events in a realistic way.... yes & no? you'll see what I mean haha. do you think others will enjoy... hell yeah. it's great!

Despite getting a 7/10, it does feel kind of hard to recommend this. If you're here for a detailed fantasy or isekai story, I doubt this one will really do much for you. A lot of the time is spent in the real world, with the characters kind of just fumbling around and getting into hijinks. These are easily the worst parts of the show but at the same time, do add to the overall comedy of the show. In short, the series is about a 35 year old guy who wakes up from a 17 year coma where he'd been stuck in a fantasy world after being hit by a truck. His nephew takes him in since he thinks it's cool that his uncle still has access to magical powers. The magic lets them set up a Youtube channel to make money and his uncle keeps showing him random scenes from his adventures, sometimes entirely ou…

An isekai starring a middle-aged guy lol When you first look at Isekai Ojisan, your initial impression is that you're about to watch yet another generic isekai filled with the usual clichés. But this anime does the exact opposite: it takes practically everything that has become overused in the genre and turns it into a joke. The story follows a totally eccentric middle-aged man who spent years in another world. Unlike most isekai protagonists, the main adventure is already over by the time the anime begins. After overcoming the challenges of that world, he finally wakes up in a Japanese hospital and returns to normal life... except he still possesses all the magical powers he gained during his journey. That’s where the real fun begins. Living with his nephew, Ojisan uses magic to solve…

Every once in a while an isekai parody comes along that actually understands why the genre became popular in the first place. Isekai Ojisan is one of those shows. It doesn't just make fun of isekai cliches it uses them to tell a genuinely entertaining story. Instead of relying on the same joke over and over, it mixes comedy, drama, fantasy, fan service, and surprisingly heartfelt moments into something that stays entertaining from start to finish. It's the kind of anime that's perfect to binge on a slow weekend. What surprised me the most was how consistently funny it is. The comedy doesn't rely on one gimmick. You think you know where a scene is going, then the punchline usually catches you off guard, an awkward misunderstanding, or one of the most ridiculous facial expressions you'll ev…

Story I’m not going to lie, I had fun with this one. I went in with zero expectations after seeing a random clip online, and I don't regret it. The story is definitely on the shallow side, and the gag of Ojisan being a dense SEGA fan is repetitive, but surprisingly, it never got boring. My only real wish is that the story went a bit further—I’d love to see him either go back to that world or somehow end up with the Elf so they could finally be a happy couple. It’s a bit of a tease, but the comedy carries it. Visuals The production quality here is honestly overkill for a comedy series like this. The level of detail, the fluid animation, and the special effects used for the magic scenes are impressive. It’s not necessarily a "masterpiece" of art, but it’s a very good-looking anime that clea…

This anime was mostly funny to me, at least the real world half of it. As a comedy goes, that's already a recommendation as it was able to achieve it's goal of making me smile, but only for the half of a playtime. I don't know why it was so boring for me, but the forced ecchi from "isekai" segments rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it's because I watched kusuo saiki beforehand, but there was nothing impressive or innovative, and when it gets piled up with the unnecessary fanservices I sadly can't find it funny enough to give it a better score. Honestly, random guy with super powers in a real world? Still funny to me, would give it 9/10. But super hero with super powers in a different world where every girl seeing him falls in love with him? I've seen it dozens of times, boring, 4/10.

Uncle from Another World turns out to be really gripping for an isekai. For one, instead of being there with the main character in another world, we are instead with a guy and his uncle, who just got out of a long coma and retells tales of what he did in the other world. The characters in the isekai are tropey yet likeable. I loved how they called the tsundere elf a tsundere elf. That's calling a dog a dog. Actually there is a lot of unnecessary drama with the girl characters which adds to the humor. If you like shows more as the number of frothy, heavy-breathing BITCHES increases, then I think you'll like this a lot just for those comedic interactions. (Haganai 1 is still the world champion at this though.) Also, if you've ever thought, "There really aren't enough Sega games portrayed…

If you want to see an epic fantasy story skip this show, but if you want to have a good time laughing at a good comedy this is what you are looking for. I really enjoyed the humor of this anime. The characters are exagerated and goofy, the events follow the same pattern. The humor is reminding me of konosuba. The story is kind of decent too, for a comedy of course, not for an epic adventure. I liked both naratives, the events from the other world and the ones from the present. I believe is an interesting and less used concept, coming back to Japan after being isekaied.

This was a interesting watch. It's essentially a watch party of the nephew and his friend following the uncle fantasy stories (which he experienced in his "isekai" hospitalized period). Are fantasies more fake if it's being told over a screen, over another screen? It's quite a refreshing take, though my interests in the anime fluctuate across episodes, I think I quite like it. Its comedy can be tropey, random, niche at times, it's for people who can't hold grudges against failed attempts at comedy to enjoy it, I guess. Though I think it has some really good jokes such as turning into the teacher during the debate. I feel the characters are the representation of tropes itselves, which feels distinctive but also feels extreme that can give out-of-touch vibes making it impossible to care de…

This anime is absolutely a joy to watch with its deadpan humor, over the top imbecility and (sometimes) decent animation, so I was shocked to read through the reviews and find out there wasn't much love and excitement for a sequel as I would've hoped. Some reviews are are very off the mark with their very deep judging - at this point I shouldn't be shocked. MAL continues to be the definite internet pitstop for teenage pseudo-intellectualism. Anime used to be the medium that celebrated difference, explosiveness, excentricism and everything that mainstream media wasn't. Growing up as someone who was not excentric by any stretch of the imagination, it was actually a weird culture for me to be (partly) part of, as I didn't see myself reflected on any of the people who were into the medium as…

Ok, here we go for the nineteenth time: Characters: -Principals: The only thing special there is the uncle-nephew relationship (5/7). -Secondaries: I love them in spite of everything (2/3). Logic: (Tolerance for being a comedy anime). Those who haven't seen the anime should prepare themselves for almost nonsensical scenes like seeing the main characters transforming into “dragons”. (7/10) Entertainment (Personal): There were only 2 episodes that I felt the plot moved forward in a rushed manner; but I loved the rest of the episodes.(9/10) The basics in an anime: -Animation: I think for scoring in this section I looked more at the waifus (2/2). -Music: In my opinion, one of the best OP of an isekai anime if I compare it with others according to music and animation. (1/2) -Vice: It's a g…

I just finished re-watching this, and I'm really shocked at how good it is. Like all the greatest satires, this meta-Isekai send-up manages to both make fun of and embody the best version of Isekai tropes. Both in its satirical elements, and with its modern-day comedy, it's genuinely funny, which is something I can say of very few anime. Both the primary modern-day characters and the host of harem-members from the fantasy world are surprisingly well-drawn and wholesome. Ojisan himself, despite mostly being the butt of jokes, manages to serve as the heart of the story. The animation is nothing to write home about, but the main thing is that it manages to mostly rise to the moment of depicting the big epic moments of the Isekai world, even if its a little chintzy. It's really a shame they…

I didnt expect much but at least had some hope that would be at least around average or slightly above and i was right... It will give you a couple laughs here and there but nothing more than that While Isekai Ojisan offers a unique twist on the isekai genre, its reliance on humor and character interactions over action or world-building may not be for everyone. The pacing can feel slow at times, and the focus on comedy and slice-of-life elements might not hold the interest of seeking a more dynamic or action-packed story. Although the dynamic between Ojisan and Takafumi adds some charm, the series lacks the depth and excitement many expect from an isekai, making it an enjoyable but ultimately average experience. A solid 6/10, worth watching if you’re a fan of laid-back humor, but not a…

This is a story about an uncle who comes from another world according to the title. Reminding those who want to watch this anime, don't take the isekai in this story too seriously. Although there are tsundere characters, isekai characters, isekai powers, unique abilities, because some story is filled with humor. I like this kind of story because it is very entertaining and makes me laugh. I really enjoy it from the beginning to the end of the episode filled with funny stories, funny dialogues, funny characters. Main characters Ojisan and Takafumi managed to make me very entertained in every episode. some unexpected plots also make the story even better. Other characters like Fujimiya, Elf, Mabel, Alicia and her party also help the story become more interesting and of course there are many…

Another show that is good because its an isekai that ISNT an isekai, i like this trend. The animation style is pretty good, the battles are animated well enough. MC is interesting, somehow he is both wise and oblivious at the same time. Although its pretty obvious that he is OP AF, this is not something the show focuses on too much, instead it puts most of its effort into the comedy aspect. His love for nostalgic game consoles is very relatable. The female characters are interesting and funny as well, There is some fan-service but its not hyper-focused on, so its bearable. Hearing the old school sonic and other sega classic game ost's throughout the show is a bonus too.

tl;dr: An anime with a really fun cast that combines isekai and reverse isekai for hilarious results. Isekai Ojisan is about a guy that was isekai’d as a teen but came back seventeen years later and began living with his nephew, Takafumi. This anime has two interconnected stories. The first is on Earth. This involves Uncle, Takafumi, and Takafumi’s childhood friend Sumika essentially just hanging out. There’s not really any sort of plot here at all. It’s just a lot of comedy. The comedy generally falls under three categories. The first is the use of magic in bizarre or unexpected ways. The second is Uncle having no clue how modern society works and being shocked by what seem to be simple things. And the third is Uncle being over obsessed with SEGA. There’s comedy outside of those as well…

This is definitely one of the best anime I’ve seen in the past six months. I might only compare it in terms of enjoyment and satisfaction to "Dungeons meshi." I truly believe this anime is one of the best when it comes to comedy, adventure, and isekai. It’s important to remember that comedy is very subjective; each person will like a certain type of comedy, while others may not. Additionally, it’s evident that this anime focuses on what happens after a long fantasy adventure, rather than during the adventure itself, which makes it understandable why many question if it’s really an isekai anime. But you know what? I don’t care. To me, this anime is a masterpiece. I’d be willing to set aside my agnosticism just to pray for a second season of this anime. I recommend this anime if: - You lik…

I think this is hilarious! I thought it would just be a typical isekai anime. It's not so badass or anything like that... it does have abit of slice of life vibe. However his stories of his past is what makes it interestingly funny. The MC is someone easily misunderstood, even though his face is creepy and the way he reacts is creepy like a perv that he might deserve a slap in the face. But those who know him, he is actually a kind and respectful person, more like an innocent geek who does things which he's not supposed to because he is really dense. As the story progresses you start to see more of his past stories, which the mc made it sound like it was nothing, but it was actually a big deal. And when the mc made it sound like a big deal, it was actually nothing. You can actually feel t…

Well, I don't really watch much of the Isekai genre because I find most of them usually very boring, but this one is on another level. First of all, it's a comedy with very clever writing. It's a story about uncle that was transported to another world, but he wasn't all powerful at first.... he was considered as an orc in that world and was sold for a 3 coins that is equal to 0,3 yen (I don't really remember the exact price, but you got it). Further more, many funny things continued to happening with him and after 17 years he was transported back to the real life, and he...... yeah... can use magic in the real world, but he need to use Japanese now to make it work instead of the language that he was used in the Isekai world. He got along with his nephiew and now they are living in the apar…
