Undead Unluck is one of those shows that will leave you with a six-pack, from laughing so hard.
Undead Unluck is such a unique show. Every power in this world is built around causing chaos in the most literal sense, take Fuuko's ability, Unluck, which triggers a disaster the moment she so much as touches someone. Naturally, she ends up paired with Andy, a man who can't die no matter what happens to him, which is basically the only reason either of them survives being around each other. It's such an interesting concept for a power system, and it comes off as quite raunchy, but in such a good way.
This show definitely grabs you by the throat. It feels very upfront and doesn't shy away from showing you how it really is, one minute it's full-on slapstick comedy, the next it's ripping a limb…

Not only is Undead Unluck uncomfortable to watch, even for veterans like myself, but it also has so many strange elements that I don't know where to begin. Even if you drop it after the first few episodes, I couldn't blame you. The unnecessary sexualization, the repeated allusions to "sexual abuse," the exaggerated personalities of the characters, and even the awkward animation and use of powers—and I don't mean exaggerated in a good way.
Obviously, at this point, we have to address the elephant in the room, and that is the constant and repetitive use of flashbacks, summaries, and recaps. We're not talking about a flashback from episode 3 that's brought up in episode 15; we're talking about flashbacks that remind you of things you already saw in the previous episode, or even two minutes b…

Undead Unluck is the anime adaptation of the manga with the same name. Written and illustrated by Tozuka Yoshifumi, Undead Unluck is also their first full-length series to be published. Both the manga and the anime adaptation were coming out at a time, where a lot of other shounen series/adaptations were way more popular, but as we know popularity doesn't directly corelate to quality, so let's take a look for ourselves at how good David Production's adaptation of Undead Unluck actually is.
The story starts off with Fuuko Izumo, a regular 18 year old girl, who's had an extremely rough life up until now and the only thing that's kept her afloat was her favorite shoujo manga. The first episode starts with said shoujo manga concluding, so Fuuko tries to do what every reasonable person would a…

Falls short of its potential, for me. As in, there's a tangible drop-off in production value and pacing as soon as we hit episode two, and things never recover much from there, except for the smallest of moments in the final episodes. The comedic bits seemed interesting in how they successfully incorporated the story's more fantastical elements, and the show hits you with many mysteries about its world and inner workings, but the painful budget loss is too much to ignore - I'm being charitable, and assuming it IS a budget matter, because the studio definitely had the potential to make something really good, yet we are still getting punched in the face with still frames, voice-overs on empty camera pans, endless reaction shots - god, more than a quarter of some episodes is just recap, are y…

I think Undead Unluck is one of my guilty pleasures. I had a lot of fun with the first season, which was mainly due to the interaction between Fuuko and Andy. The humor they both have is really strong and made me laugh more than once. The side characters are also very good, like Juiz, Viktor, Gina and Billy, who get really good stories and moments. Gina in particular gives you two very strong and emotional episodes. The manga plot is also something so creative, which I really liked and was my favorite part of the story, with Andy's backstory and Gina. If you can get involved with Undead Unluck, you'll get a lot of humor, fun fights and really good characters.

Undead Unluck is that kind of anime I wasn't expecting much from, but it delivered everything. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this show while browsing Disney+ because it's really good, and now I'm hyped for season two.
Undead Unluck surprised me so much. At first, I thought it was just gonna be some silly comedy anime, but as the episodes went on, the story evolved in a way I totally didn’t expect. I found the plot really interesting and I loved the power system in this universe of Negators. Not to mention the characters, of course — there's still a lot of development to be done, but I really liked them already. That being said, my favorite characters are Akira and Tatiana.
In terms of technical stuff, there’s not much to say — it’s not like the animation is ultra beautiful, but it’s not ba…

Undead Unluck isn’t your standard battle shonen. The series delivers a chaotic, high-energy narrative that blends dark comedy, action, and supernatural intrigue. The story follows Fuuko Izumo, a young woman cursed with Unluck, a condition that brings misfortune to anyone who touches her. With Andy, an immortal man with the ability to revive from any death. Their unlikely partnership forms the backbone of the narrative, as they are drawn into a shadowy organization called the Union, which manipulates individuals with supernatural abilities to pursue its own mysterious agenda. From the first episode, the story establishes a fast-paced rhythm that combining explosive action sequences with absurd humor and bizarre scenarios. The dynamic between Fuuko and Andy drives much of the series’ emotion…

So, the Undead Unlcuk anime. In short, this one's a grower, not a shower. The animation is solid but you can see where it was held back by it's mediocre budget. In the first few episodes the characters may be quite off putting, with our supposed "protagonist" repeatedly SA'ing a teen girl. And yeah I'll be honest, the manga also had a rough start for the same reasons. But, if you can get through the first 7 or 8 episodes, you'll start seeing the surprisingly complex relationships between these characters and the awesome power system that is driving the action. Andy's regeneration powers are like wolverine to the 10th power, and most of the other powers are also pretty unique (if named in a kind of dumb way). Also, Fukko really comes into her own and develops as a character through the mang…

It's been a few years since I dropped it after 8 ep. But even after all those years I still can't like Fuuko. Her behavior bothered me the whole time. For a comedy, she was unnecessarily concerned with things that she may not be interested in and overall she's going through too much. Andy is a tough guy, but she's more of a ball that drags the comedy down. And of course, my favorite, unnecessary backstories must not be missing. Personally, I wasn't interested in them as always, they're just overly tragic anyway, but I didn't have to, when during the ep. they still managed to summarize what happened in the last few minutes a few times or throw in a few longer flashbacks to remind us of something from the previous few episodes.
Later episodes start with a few minutes of recapitulation of th…

A good show with an interesting power system. I'd be tempted to call this another big dumb shonen, except it's not actually dumb. Characters use their poers in unique ways to overcome obstacles and outsmart opponents. This is more of a big silly shonen. While solutions may be smart, they are also absurdly silly. Which is fun and leaves you wanting to see the outrageous and unbelievable thing that will happen.
My biggest gripe is an issue that pagues a lot of shonen action shows (although newer shows have been better about not doing this than older shows, likely thanks to the rise of streaming); almost 10 to 20% of every episode is basicaly guaranteed to consist of recaps, flashbacks or simply repeating the last minute of the previous episode at the start of the next episode. If you can st…

Undead Unluck feels like it was made in a lab to appeal to Shonen Jump readers. But I think that in their attempt to find a new series to rival their biggest titles, they've failed to understand what made their most successful titles so good. As a result, new Jump series like Undead Unluck feel too manufactured. There's no heart in this show. It's uninspired. It feels like it's just checking off boxes in order to catch the attention of the magazine itself.
If this is your first time watching a Shonen Jump anime, you'll probably enjoy it. But if you've already watched Naruto, Bleach, or One Piece, then you'll easily be able to identify all the ways this show is trying to imitate them. Despite how hard it's trying to be unique, everything that occurs in this show is just... boring and unmem…

It has a different proposal, the plot is a bit weak at the beginning but the anime holds up well in comedy, there are several plots in the story of the undead that I was not expecting but they give an interesting lore to the character, unlike stories where the protagonist is the virgin of the story here would be the unlucky but there is a reason since she has zero experience, only some secondary characters have charisma and maybe the others could be better worked, who knows in the second season if there is one, the animation is satisfactory and for those who want something more outside the "box" it may be interesting to watch but if you want something more serious better go to another anime

I really enjoyed this. I didn't expect to. After the first episode I thought it was going to be some gimmicky anime that gets you in with the concept but fails to delivery in any other aspect. I was pleasantly surprised by the way this went.
I love the power system to be honest. That's my favorite thing about it. It's creative. Having negators who negate concepts instead of having standard powers makes for such an interesting watch. The match ups with fights are also interesting because of it. Creativity has to be used and even a weak person can overcome a strong person with the right usage.
I also grew to love the character and their stories. I'm not going to go too crazy because I don't have time to write a long review, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. I think it's a bit underrated beca…

It had a promising start... but later...
Undead unluck has an interesting premise. "Negaters", instead of having a super power they Negate an existing concept. Undead, doesn't die. Unluck, project bad luck. Unstoppable, goes roadrunner and so on.
Interesting concept, fun powers with a bit of mystery added as the viewer has to guess at them.
Had the show stopped there it would have been a serviceable action/comedy Shonen.
Sadly as the season went on we ended up with poor pacing, leaps in logic, lack of consequences and main character syndrome... oddly from the female lead of all people.
It had an idea and the battles were fun. The plotline and character interaction (with anyone other than each other!) needed some fine toning. The relationship between people made zero sense consideri…

Undead Unluck answers the question "What if the old Shaft studio made an action shonen?". Well, former employees reunited and made it happen! With its unique quirks, the anime blends various fiction tropes in a way that's both different and delightful. It features humor, tension, and sci-fi, masterfully exploring multiple genres.
About the Plot:
The plot is another standout aspect. Constantly using the element of surprise, the anime subtly challenges your moral perceptions throughout. The cleverly placed humor often makes the audience forget it, but heroes and villains blur together, many dilemmas are resolved violently, and important secrets are kept among the heroes, to name a few examples.
Predictability:
Apart from these aspects, something that sells Undead Unluck really well is it…

Undead Unluck hit that sweet spot for me. I like weird shit and this show is definitely weird. It's not a masterpiece, but not everything has to be and I had a lot of fun with it. I had no idea where the show was going next and that's a rarity for me. I continued watching just to see what crazy thing the show would do next. It's not a show for everyone, in fact I can see a lot of people disliking it. Give it one episode if you're not sure. The worst thing that happens is that you're out twenty minutes of your time.

Undead Unluck is one of the most interesting, creative, and emotionally moving stories Ive had the pleasure to READ, not watch; though the anime is still solid overall. The anime hits a lot of the same highs as its manga counterpart, but is watered down by incessant recaps, underwhelming 3d effects, and a few altered scenes. And unfortunately like the manga, you will need to get past the first couple of episodes which have some mild notes of sexual assault, which is promptly dropped less than 5 episodes in, never to return again. All that being said though, it is still absolutely worth a watch, if for no other reason that it will be a gateway to get more people to read, and I mean this when I say it, one of the greatest manga of all time. If you want a more in-depth look into my thoughts o…

I suppose i should start this by simply saying, yes it gets drastically worse in the middle of it but it picks up later do not abandon it! I myself was on the verge of abandoning it on episode 16. I feel like many have fallen around this episode and thus the rating tanked a bit.
I think some plans changed and around 4-5 real episodes are missing and the air is filled with repeats and stuff like that, similar to what happens in One Peace. I guess they wanted to leave us on a cliff hanger and thus the qualify of anime dropped because they had so much material and too many episodes to fill.
Is the show still good? Yes.
The story itself is very hmm... well... it is very difficult to describe without spoiling it. It is filled with emotions :) It is not by any means perfect, it does lack s…

Story: 7.5/10
The story’s original concept, focusing on unusual abilities and existential themes, is engaging. The story starts very slowly, paces up the intensity, and becomes very good by the middle of the season.
Art & Sound: 7/10
While David Production's animation is vibrant, some action scenes lack intensity (expected animation level of Fire Force). The catchy soundtrack enhances the series' energy, though it may not leave a lasting impression.
Characters: 7.5/10
Andy and Fuko’s relationship is intriguing, but character development feels limited. The supporting cast has potential; however, their backgrounds and motivations are underexplored, which sometimes detracts from emotional depth.
Enjoyment: 8/10
Despite pacing and development issues, Undead Unluck offers humour, inventive…
