Yani Neko is kinda a hard show to review. The premise is a good one, a comedy where you follow a group of pathetic failures and dysfunctional people as they do and experience a series of stupid, unfortunate and disgusting things typically associated with or stereotypical of some sort of addiction, like smoking. At a base level the show is fun and surprisingly well made, the technical elements (visuals, audio, voice acting etc.) are all pretty high quality and relatively consistent throughout the show. I would say its noticeably better made than other shows rated similarly to it on MAL, simply because it keeps getting bad reviews due to its pretty repugnant and gross type of humor. Fair enough, but if you arent bothered or enjoy that type of joke, the average score is a little harsh. Its ju…

One of the most effective anti-smoking I've seen in a while. Few, perhaps NO other protagonists are as pathetic, and desperate, and ugly, and hopeless as Yani Neko (even Charlie Kelly is well-adjusted by comparison). And yet, despite being as disgusting as she is impulsive, as impulsive as she is unmotivated, and almost just as downright rude to match, she is nonetheless compelling to watch.
Aside from Yani herself: the side characters are actually ALL very strong, almost as much as they are degenerate and messed up in ways that make them more compelling, and even relatable to varying degrees (except the streamer. I can forgive being a heroin addict, even being less comedic than Sweet Dee, but being a streamer is a bridge too far).
Gross-out is not normally a type of humor I enjoy at all…

It’s tasteless, morally depraved entertainment, and I love it.
It’s almost pointless to write a review of this anime. It has no beginning or end, no coherent plot, and the individual episodes consist of a few sketches primarily about cat junkies led by Yani Neko. Yes, you can read all sorts of things about its social commentary through its portrayal of certain groups of people and how the characters are the very embodiment of their addictions. But that’s not why anyone watches it. The only thing that matters is how much you like trashy, fecal humor. It’s not for the sensitive, and for a lot of people, it’ll be too much. But if it makes you laugh when someone drinks a can of beer mixed with cigarette butts and ends up with diarrhea, you’ll love it.

The premise of this anime is a humorous commentary on the lives of the Japanese lower class, exemplified by beastfolk (cat people), and how this historic oppression, despite having already disappeared, has left its mark on this social stratum, making them more prone to suffering from poverty and addictions. The action centers around an apartment block where catgirls suffering some form of addiction live in each unit. These range from tobacco addiction (the name of the series) and drugs to more ethereal issues like emotional dependency on other people or social media. Each of them face small day-to-day challenges and interact with one another while also enduring a degree of ostracism and disdain from the human world, which in most cases views them as nothing more than sexual objects or lazy…

One of the best comedies of the season.
The premise revolves around Yani Neko, a smoking cat living in a bald man's inn, along with other residents: a cute YouTuber, an alcoholic, a drug addict, and a perverted manga writer.
The combination of all these traits with comedy and human desires creates an interesting mix.
The last two episodes, in particular, were excellent, featuring a fight between the innkeeper and Yanneko. It might seem like a poorly made show, but it does its job: comedy.
The story is self-explanatory; just watch and enjoy.
Some people say the anime has tarnished Japan's reputation. However, this anime is more like a slice-of-life story about a group of people addicted to various things, depicting their lives and struggles in a purely comedic way.
It's not the best s…

This anime left a huge impression on me—though certainly not in a good way. Watching the first episode on a train was definitely a mistake.
*Yani Neko* is about a chain-smoking, self-neglecting, and repulsive cat-girl. While I started to develop a bit of sympathy for the characters around episode 8—I even began to like the caretaker—every subsequent episode completely disregarded that progress, dragging everything back down to crude, toilet-level humor. It’s an anime about absolutely nothing; I’m genuinely baffled by the hype and the ratings it’s received. I understand that the intent may have been to highlight the disgusting nature of the addiction, but there was no need to depict it in such a graphic and gratuitous manner. Personally, the only thing I actually liked was the art style. Th…

Yani Neko (Chainsmoker Cat)
Honestly, I didn't expect to enjoy an anime about a chain-smoking catgirl as much as I did. The concept sounds ridiculous when you first hear about it, but that's kind of what makes it work. It's weird, unfiltered, and doesn't try to be something it isn't.
Yaniko is such a mess of a character, and watching her constantly make terrible decisions is both hilarious and frustrating. What I like is that the series doesn't rely entirely on the catgirl gimmick. There's something strangely entertaining about watching these characters live their lives, deal with their problems, and somehow make everything worse for themselves.
The humour definitely won't be for everyone. It's crude, occasionally disgusting, and has moments where you genuinely wonder what you're watching…

When I say this is one of the most disgusting and repulsive series I’ve ever seen, I truly mean that. I gave this a chance because I thought it would a nice little comedy poking fun at tobacco addiction and encouraging smokers to quit, and while it does have some of that, for the most part it’s just low brow toilet humor slop mixed with bestiality, rape and a bunch of other barely disguised fetishes the author has. This show sucks for me. Its only saving grace was Imoko who would’ve made a much more interesting protagonist. I immediately regretted watching this from the first episode, unfortunately my no drop rule prevented me from dropping it, so I’m proud of myself for finishing this garbage, but that’s about it.
This show is going to heavily depend on your sense of humor. If you like t…

yani neko is like one of those animes that you find and watch randomly and also enjoy it. If you are willing to watch this anime only for its pure comedy then you are going to absolutely enjoy it. There are many moments in these anime that will keep you bursting and you won't even know it.
Another thing yani neko does it is shows the difference in status between humans and beastfolks in society. It is a dark reflection to our society. There are many characters in this show that suffer with their own addiction and are going through something of their own you may find yourself relating to one of these characters.

It's funnier than I expected. Before I started watching I believed I'd see an episode or two and get bored, thinking that only my >10-year-ago self would be interested in seeing something like this, but surprisingly no, I somehow found it funny even though it's not really my style.
Also. I have no why it took me until the last episode to realize that the Yaniko and Yumuko interactions are basically the author making fun / complaining about the lack of diversity in the industry. The 'just write about...' + "exiled hero" / "villainess" / "dungeon" suggestions from Yaniko, the complaints about originality from Yomuko, and so on. As someone who likes watching the seasonal trash fantasy, this was pretty funny to me, when it finally hit me in the last episode. And I guess Yomuko is the author(…

É legal pra passar o tempo e dar umas risadas.

It's fun to watch when you just want to kill some time and have a few laughs.
This anime isn't something you should overanalyze or pay super close attention to in order to pick apart the narrative and story. Obviously, each character has a different personality, and in a way, you can relate some of them to people in your own friend group. But other than that, just turn your brain off and enjoy it. It's pretty funny.

Cat Girls Protector Has 3 Legs
Chainsmoker Cat is a show about addict she cat girls, and how sometimes you just can't fix her, and you wouldn't want to, just think about the smell.
This is the best advert I have ever seen, for not smoking or taking drugs, because who the hell wanna live like these people, and it is willing to show some really gross out humor, that is not for a faint of heart.
Combination of sad and funny, that works will for me because of my love of depressing humor. The characters are spot on, when it comes to their portrayal of addict, and i see some similarities between the people, I know in my life.
they also a feeling of, cat people being second-rate citizens, that are not allowed to have important roles in society, which is a really dark and depressing twist to p…

Slice of Lowlife? Literal Gag Anime? Well, I personally didn't find it too gross but it comes down to your tolerances. If you are unaware, it has a lot of dirty humor that may or may not be a deal breaker for certain people. That said, the show has very high production value for what it is and it clearly comes from someone passionate.
The show depicts lives of the residents of certain apartment complex ran by a good-natured landlord with beastfolk fetish. And the residents are mostly cat girls. Most of the characters rely on something to make their life more tolerable in one way or another, for one reason or another: from substances to love dolls to streaming to "saving others". The line between melancholic reality and silly gags can sometimes be quite thin and the characters can be more…

If you want a funny anime with comedy, this is one of the rare ones that does it right. Chainsmoker Cat has crazy scenes and some punchlines that actually land. It was a strange watch, but I enjoyed it from the absurdity. The anime has no plot, and is more structured like Family Guy except without the same jokes. Shock content is key throughout the episodes, and it will leave you in tears.
I've never seen an anime reference Western media as much as Chainsmoker Cat before. The intro is full of rotoscopes consisting of Fight Club scenes, the Toby Maguire dance, Pulp Fiction, Dumb and Dumber, hell even Joker. It almost feels like those weird ass Crypto ads where they throw anything at the wall and hope it reels in customers. I like how it appealed to both hemispheres of the world. The Japane…

After finishing Yani Neko (Chainsmoker Cat), I can say with absolute certainty that it is a great anime. It made me laugh so much and I loved it, buuuut... it’s not for everyone. It is suggestive and disgusting, but that is THE joke. If you are willing to sit through fecal humor, then go ahead and watch it. Personally, I really loved it and enjoyed it, though of course, there are moments where I feel the animation quality dropped—even if it seems like I'm the only one who thinks so. Now... is it truly a masterpiece? Nah. It's a good anime and a total laughfest that you forget about three hours later.

Ive seen so many ass opinions about this show I might just leave mine here.
One of the few anime I enjoyed watching this season (aside from JoJo/and some of ReZero).
I greatly value that it does not try to shove any moral lesson about smoking (despite people interpreting otherwise) and just be the ridiculous piece of media it is.
In the worst moments of your life everything seems so serious and all the problems insurmountable, I think Yani Neko does a great job at reminding us that, in the end, it doesnt matter because Ỷ̸̥̓Ȯ̶̼̮͋̂Ǘ̶̡̹̘̱̇ ̷̨͎̞́̽A̸̡̮̩̪͒͘R̴̫͍̱̅̑̀̈E̴͓͓̳͑̃ ̶͖̹̣̌͆Ǹ̴̡͉̲͇͊̚͠Ô̶͙̞̞͈͐̚T̴̲̔̈̈́̇ ̷̹͙͕̺̈́̂̕͘Ả̷͎ ̵͇͚̉̒H̸̱̎̃Ų̸̪̐M̴̘̣̞̀̒͂̂ͅĄ̷̫̿̉̐̎N̸̍͜

Last year, we had an anime that involved cats turning people into cats in a Night of the Living Dead kind of parody. How about an anime that's a parody that reflects the poverty side of life? It's funny that this and Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You came out at the same time this year. Good reminder, me, I need to get back into that anime since it has been completed. Too many things going on as per usual. But they are both so much different when comparing smoking habits. By the tone, really.
Set in a modern-day world where human-animal hybrids, known as "beastfolk," coexist with humans, we're focused on a catgirl Yaniko Sato, voiced by Yuko Natsuyoshi (Japanese) and Rebecca Wang (English), who lives her daily life in a rundown apartment in Nyagamihara (based on Sagamihara) and worki…

What the hell did I just watch? This has got to be the most degenerate anime I’ve ever seen, and I’m all for it!
Like, there’s no premise at all, just a bunch of catgirls struggling through life to make ends meet. Well... most of them, at least. Some are just straight-up homeless or full-time chimneys, lmao. All while their landlord gets constant boners left, right and centre whenever they show even a little skin.
Just the overall concept of it made me curious enough to watch the first episode, and although I was about to drop it, I genuinely felt the need to watch more of this glorious comedic trash. Like, you’d think they’d draw the line somewhere. Well... the only lines they draw here are the ones they snort. But literally anything goes here. A horny landlord with a fetish for catgirl…

Have you ever thought what being a total degenerate that barely has consideration for anything or anyone around you? Does grotesque imagery not turn you off from watching something? Then I'm sure that you're going to find this silly anime fun to watch!
The OP and ED songs are great and not to mention the OP animation is a bunch of classic/famous movie scenes. Very cool. Also, ep. 11 has a fun switcheroo.
This anime just kind of embodies a fun atmosphere that allows you to laugh and watch without thinking too hard about what might happen next. Most episodes are made in a short sketch and non-linear style so it's pretty easy to watch each episode without expectations. There's dirty jokes, intentionally bad punch lines, and not shying away from any topic of conversation. Actually, most thin…

I thought this anime at the start would be disgusting and bad and later on all the char get their life put together and make a comeback or sum but I was so wrong. It ended up being BS the entire time and no story no nothing. If you are a smoker maybe it would help you not to smoke but since I'm an otaku and not a smoker this anime was so mid. I really had hopes that it would change somehow but nope. Defo not a show for me and I don't think I would ever watch this again in any universe. There were pathetic comedic scenes which I didn't find funny and there is honestly nothing good abt this anime. The characters suck, No story at all, No character development but the only decent thing is animation but the story is so bad that good animation ain't fixing this.
