Akiba Maid War

Akiba Maid War

Introduction

The innocent Nagomi Wahira has always admired the cute girls serving at maid cafes. Hoping to fulfill her dream of becoming one, she moves to Akihabara to work at the maid cafe Ton Tokoton. Nagomi's first day seems completely normal—until she has to run an "errand" at a rival maid cafe along with her fellow recruit, the mature Ranko Mannen. There, things quickly go south, and Nagomi soon gets her first taste of Akihabara's violent maid wars. As she watches Ranko calmly battle her way through a horde of gun- and knife-wielding maids, Nagomi realizes that maid cafes are drastically unlike what she had envisioned. While struggling to reconcile her expectations with the harsh reality she finds herself in, Nagomi searches for the enjoyment she once saw in the lives of maids. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Incredibly jarring, amazingly stupid, cringe in all the right ways, a classic mafia/gang war type of story dressed up in frills and cute smiles. A light-hearted but gruesome comedy where people die suddenly, often, without much pomp and with a lot of blood. Not much in the way of "gore" just...a lot of blood. While the story is basic and not particularly impactful, it's a fun ride with some fun characters and the overall production isn't bad. The characters all had interesting personalities with some depth, although they do lean somewhat on being certain character tropes. The conflicts between characters and their motives and morals gets interesting at times but these conflicts mostly stay drowned in a puddle of goofy gags. A lot of the comedy is well executed though and the action is goo…

I was maybe five episodes into this series when I realized - This is what an anime would look like if Quentin Tarentino made anime. This plays like an anime that was dipped in Pulp Fiction and allowed to soak in Reservoir Dogs overnight. It's bloody, it's violent, it's moe moe kyun oink-tastic. Akiba Meido Sensou is both a homage to, and a satire of, the bloody insanity of Tarentino movies and the maid cafe fetish that consumes Akiba (Yes, fellow Otaku, Akihabara is the epicenter of Maid Cafe "culture") This Everything in Akiba Maid War was top-notch. The art, the story telling, the script, the action, the animation, it was all there. Even though it was standard Japanese anime, everything about it screamed Tarentino. It's just silly that there would be open warfare between the different…

okay from the first couple of episodes it is quite the hook, halfway through e,g, the baseball episode was kinda boring i cant lie, but still humorous just lacked drama HOWEVER. THE LAST 2 EPISODES WERE SO GOOD. oh my gosh those last episodes are so underrated compared to the rest of the anime, truly a masterpiece worth watching. It is so emotional, nerve-wracking for the thriller aspect and surprising. WOW, genuinely im still in utter shock because i just finished it. the fact they combined a maid cafe trope to a sort of mafia organizational crime, made it make sense, AND still applied exageration *like in a comedy hyperbole way* to imply a message i cant seem to point my head at yet. this is lowkey something worth watching, as it is short and is one of the few 12 episode animes that i p…

Absurdism with realism, fun with tragedy and cuteness with bullets. This is the kind of anime that has a dumb scene but in the next one still manages to land the drama, and vice versa. There can be a violent scene and then "cut your piggy tail as a punishment" (instead of an arm/finger), but they do it 100% as if it was the real thing, which makes the whole scene hilarious. Or a dumb moment that suddenly turns tense because of real consequences. Beyond the hilarious moments, the underlying message and mafia representation is top notch. You will understand all the characters, motivations and references if you have seen yakuza/mafia movies in the past. You'll see that "Yakuza/Mafia=Maids" and "Akiba=Criminal Life" (they can't just leave), "we are a family" (criminal group motto), "it's jus…

"Akiba Maid War" is one of the most murder-happy anime seasons to exist. It explores a scenario where instead of the Yakuza being the underground organized crime bosses causing loads of death and destruction, it is the maid organizations in Akiba. The R rating is pretty well deserved for this anime, and for once it is an R-rated anime without anything glaringly sexual in it. I can't stress enough how many maids die in this show. It's like Oprah: "You get a bullet in the chest, and you get a bullet in the skull, and you get a knife in the back, everyone gets to die!". Outside of that, there really isn't much to dig into this show. The setting is one that really hooks you in the boat and the story of Nagomi trying to be a maid that doesn't want to commit any acts of violence is mildly compe…

Let's get the rating out of the way. I give this a 9/10. I had little to no expectations of this anime because I knew nothing about it, and had only added it to my list a couple of days prior. But, oh boy, the show grabs you from the very first episode with its over-the-top, Tarantino-action scenes. It is unapologetically a violent show, so be prepared. I had assumed that a story about moe maids fighting each other would be limited to them pulling goofy pranks and getting into embarrassingly awkward situations, but no. To be sure, it's both silly in that the plot is about café maids having gang wars (and taking their role as cute maids dead serious), but grim enough to put you at the edge of your seat, hoping none of our heroines gets it. The characters are, perhaps, not all that fully dev…

Akiba Maid War is not just an anime. It is a full-course banquet where chaos is served on a silver platter, garnished with bullets, blood, and the purest commitment to the bit I have ever witnessed. This show doesn’t dip its toes into insanity. It dives in headfirst, belly flops, and then rolls around in the mud squealing with joy. On the surface, it looks like a cute maid cafe story. Frills, smiles, moe poses. But beneath that apron beats the heart of a full-blown yakuza war drama. Rival maid cafes treat territory like gang turf, loyalty like sacred law, and violence like a daily special. The tonal whiplash is so strong it feels like getting smacked by a flying pork chop, and somehow it’s glorious every single time. The characters are oink-credible. Each maid commits to her role with su…

I think it's pretty easy to both understand and get on board with what this show is in its entirety by the end of episode one. I went in knowing nothing, not even the name. Then I watched the whole thing. Probably my favorite thing about this show is that it's a show made up almost entirely of a female cast but rarely (if ever) does it try to make them overtly cute or sexy. In fact, I don't know if I've ever seen another anime that takes this in stride as well as Akiba Maid War does, and this is with it in mind that it's a show about maids. In Akibahara. From beginning to end they just feel like, well, people, and I can't begin to say how refreshing that is. It's something that just makes a show a lot more enjoyable for me, made the characters a lot more enjoyable too. Otherwise, I think…

Okay, the short answer is: Yes, you should watch this anime. This is the long answer: Story: The story was very intriguing. Never at any point did it move away from the actual plot point, which writers tend to do nowadays. The story really highlights the dangers of gang wars. They teach an very important lesson, if they meant to or not: Nobody wins in gang wars. Or war in general. There are only losers. The death of so many characters, the effect it has on Nagomi, the unnecessary tears and grief. I love it. I also really do love the other side lessons you learn. For example, never lose sight of who you really are. Nagomi, for most of the time, kept that lesson to heart. I don't want this review to contain any major spoilers, so I will say this. The people she has lost really taught her th…

The word play of the anime, as well as the setting itself, made it look like a promising series until the sails lost their wind... It's an anime set in the not-so-far past, in Akihabara. You get introduced to characters as fast as you can forget them. Only a few of the characters had some history that was tangible with the theme. For this reason, there were no feelings towards clicking on the next episode, apart from the first few that get you reeled in because of the theme being yakuza-maid sorta. This show being that of yakuza yakuza-themed is what got me into the show initially (and that one scene where one of our MCs pukes out the ramen). In the end, I think it was silly of me to think of hoping for the show to turn more serious. Which leads to another point, where I couldn't unders…

i fucking hate this anime. 10/10 A wild blend of comedy, naruto’s talk no jutsu, john wick durarara and Tarantino, Akiba Maid War starts strong with absurd energy and over-the-top shootouts. Its unpredictability keeps you hooked, and the lack of plot armor gives the story a raw, shocking edge. this anime is merciless, its too real. how is it too real? it doesnt let you get a single chance to hope or process any fucking thing, at all. first you go “oh these.” the next frame “dead.” so what is the fucking fuck point fuck do i need to fucking process if all of these shit happens too fast you fuckers. i got so hooked i didnt even care about anything else, i just conclude that i absolutely hate this piece of shit fuck you and your maid shit, JUSTICE FOR RANKO

A girl arrives in Akihabara with big dreams of becoming the cutest and greatest maid in the business. But what if in reality, all the maid cafes were run by organized crime all looking to seize control or eliminate the others? Welcome to the real or not so real history of 1999 Akiba. Akiba Maid War is an absolutely unhinged yakuza parody that isn't afraid to do whatever it wants with its story. Maid massacres combined with cutesy idol performances? The menu covers it all. Mostly comprised of morbid comedy, it kept me entertained on that front, I wouldn't say there was a single bad episode. However, the series actually eventually got its real drama moments too and at first I had mixed feelings about it because I had gotten used to just having a fun time with the show but later on I started…

If it were Directed by Quentin Tarantino; Produced by Guy Ritchie, with the style & flare of Takashi Miike's Sukiyaki Western Django - you get Akiba Maid War. Very unique experience in viewership and what an incredible rollercoaster it was. It blended elements from a plethora of styles & influences yet still managed to create something exceptionally unique. It also didn't overstep any element within it's arsenal. Listing everything would just spoil it... plus this is a review, not a dead give away. I haven't found any uninteresting characters, even those with short lifespans; every character served their purpose well for this magnificent tale and I swear this will be one difficult to forget. It was fabricated seamlessly for multiple viewing as well; making the "you got to see this" vibe…

I found the anime very good and fun, the proposal was different and unique; the op is very good and the editing is incredible, since if I'm not mistaken the music is similar to the music from the time in which the anime takes place; the environment is very good too. But it would be better if there were more episodes and developed more both the background characters and the protagonist herself and used all the potential that night, weapons and e,pregados have to offer. After finishing the anime I felt a little empty, wanting to know more about the world of the anime and the characters, their motivations, desires, etc., and how it all actually started.

I don't watch anime as frequently as I used to, but I really enjoyed this one and I watched all in one day. I really liked the sense of humor and I thank that they do not explain the jokes as animes use to do. Overall, I think it has many interesting turns, funny moments, they know also how to transmit tension. I really liked it. This anime is not as centered in the characters themselves, but in the plot, and I think that is okay. I didn't have much expectatives when I first started it and I feared that it may be cringe but it is not. I hope you like it if you give it an opportunity:)

Originally when I had stumbled onto Akiba Maid Wars, I was pulled in by the gimmicky feel of it. I was entirely under the assumption that the frosting would match the cake; That this was just a parody of the mafia trope with the maid cafe trope. I was entirely wiped away by the plot that slowly seeped itself in after the initial few episodes, however, as the show moved from parody to heartwrenching. Other reviews claim that the show relies too heavily on it's tropes, but rather I think it is to be believed that the show is better because of it. Is it sappy and silly at times? Absolutely. But does it also contribute to the world building, the kind of world where maid yakuzas rule Akihabara in the entirety of the 18th century? An undeniable and resounding yes, yes, yes. The plot and tw…

It's a mafia feature with maids, it's really very interesting. The important thing is the relationship between the protagonists, you see how the group gets along and grows. The first chapter already shows you that everything is very different, it's great. The animation is good, the plot has some very good twists but sometimes it is repeated as the series is set out, that is, something happens and it is resolved in the chapter and so on. How it feels like they are unrelated episodes but they do have a relationship, that it is an episodic series but it is not. They are tied together with a very good plot. The soundtrack accompanies it very well, it is very good. The character design is fun, the only bad thing is that there is not much difference between one group of maids and another but w…

This was a really fun anime because the concept was one of its kind: maid cafes x gang/mafia. The great dichotomy between those two concepts in itself is hard not to make iconic when merged into a story, so the real issue I had with this anime was the execution. Pros: The characters had distinct, comical personalities (although a bit stereotypical). The plot was also fairly decent, but it was mostly so funny. It's so damn hilarious to think that cute maid girls are actually gangsters. I laughed a lot at each episode because of how ridiculous it was, and many scenarios were quite memorable. But I'm not going to lie; there were many eyebrow-raising moments because it just didn't make sense/came off as unnatural. That goes right into my cons: the plot execution was so messy. It really aff…

Spoiler-less, TL;DR, fast, simple, and easy-to-digest review: Maid, guns, MOAR GUNS!!! 7/10 Animation? Ok (+) Not the best out there, but okay enough to satisfy my action/cute mix crave. Some repeated animations and assets here and there but nothing very special. Characters? Ok (+) Yakuza-wannabe maids. Some of them are cute, some are gyaru-cute, some are gyaru-ugly (seriously how tf they became maid), and some of them are HATEABLE GOD I HATE THAT B-DAY GIRL! The main cast are somewhat unique enough and well written. Ranko best (girl) woman. Clearly someone that is very capable of being cool and cute. The John Wick of all maids. Plot/Story? Good (++) A unique premise and concept yet unrealistic but unreal and over-the-top. Throw out your sense of logic and your brains 'cause you won't…
