The Heroic Legend of Arslan

The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Introduction

The year is 320. Under the rule of the belligerent King Andragoras III, the Kingdom of Pars is at war with the neighboring empire, Lusitania. Though different from his father in many aspects, Arslan, the young prince, sets out to prove his valor on the battlefield for the very first time. However, when the king is betrayed by one of his most trusted officials, the Parsian army is decimated and the capital city of Ecbatana is sieged. With the army in shambles and the Lusitanians out for his head, Arslan is forced to go on the run. With a respected general by his side, Daryun, Arslan soon sets off on a journey in search of allies that will help him take back his home. However, the enemies that the prince faces are far from limited to just those occupying his kingdom. Armies of other kingdoms stand ready to conquer Ecbatana. Moreover, the mastermind behind Lusitania's victory, an enigmatic man hiding behind a silver mask, poses a dangerous threat to Arslan and his company as he possesses a secret that could jeopardize Arslan's right to succession. With the odds stacked against him, Arslan must find the strength and courage to overcome these obstacles, and allies who will help him fight in the journey that will help prepare him for the day he becomes king. I think this anime is perfect. We're intermediate watchers maybe even beginner. This anime does not make our main characters goal clear until like episode 20 and it's never built up as a mystery or something that was meant to be vague. It's just that they didn't really make it clear so it became vague but I wasn't really supposed to be vague if that makes sense His goal seemed clear to his allies, but the whole time I was watching this I was confused on what he wanted to do or be during the majority of this anime The plot is interesting and the characters are divine. The main character though is always being rescued like a damsel in distress and honestly is a very boring character. What makes this anime great is the side characters they all do a tremendous job and holding the story togethe…

6.25/10 ~ a canceled show that could have been so much more The best way to describe The heroic Legend of Arslan is what if you animated an RTS game that features prominent charecters as more powerful 'heroes' (much like Battle for middle earth), made each side quest secretly a way to obtain a new hero or party member much like a wifiu collector all culminating to your MC living his dream of becoming someone akin to Daenerys Targaryen (minus the dragons), all set in a historical fiction that mixes myth with legend (much like Vinland saga or 3 kingdoms). I really enjoy the use of language, always a fan of using religion as a story telling medium as controlling the masses, low fantasy is my favorite setting. Now that sounds like a hook that would make me love this series, but its plagued…

I have finally decided to sit down and write a review for Arslan Senki. To be honest, I might be biased in my opinion, as this is one of the shows that have sticked with me ever since I was a kid starting to watch anime. It's a very dear series for me. Arslan Senki tells us the story of a young prince whose kingdom is threatened by enemy forces. The show mainly explores the themes of war, strategy, and what it means to be a true king and leader. It's source material is the light novels with the same title, written by Yoshiki Tanaka. There has been a previous anime adaptation, which also shares the name of Arslan Senki. As usual, I'd like to talk about the characters. The main cast could be considered a "found family". Each one of them has a particular attribute, with some of them being…

This season is, overall, a pretty good time. The score is excellent, the animation really good with only a few odd CGI choices, the characters varied and entertaining, and the plot, if nothing else, is interesting enough to keep me invested. All that being said, it does seem like the show trips over itself a bit in the details. For example, one of the elements it introduces and uses with some regularity is a set of sorcerers. They use magic, they're clearly fantastical, and they appear on the battlefield from time to time to get major characters out of harm's way. It's a bit of a deus ex machina that feels very much like the author has his hands in the plot, which is something I rarely appreciate in my stories. That's pretty granular, though, so I'll go bigger. Arslan himself plays a pi…

When this anime was announced, many expected the best show of the millennia. The reason was the story being written by the author of Legend of the Galactic Heroes and the artwork being done by the mangaka of Full Metal Alchemist. Both titles are exceptional and are even in my top 10. Unfortunately, Arslan is not even top 1000 material. Compared to its predecessors: - It lacks the semi-realistic character designs of LOGH - Its cast lacks the charisma and individual importance of FMA characters - It looks bland compared to the ethereal artstyle of the 90s version of Arslan Another way to view it is like the 2 Star Wars trilogies. The 70s trilogy was a space opera masked as a fairy tale, thus keeping expectations low and succeeding in the longrun. The 00s trilogy on the other hand was a fair…

{SPOILERS} *NOTE: This review is also meant to cover the 8-episode arc, Fuujin Ranbu* The Heroic Legend of Arslan is a good mid-range anime that does some things very well and definitively fails to deliver on others. It successfully packages enthralling court politics and entertaining military strategy in a full wreathing of lackluster characters, plot holes, and bad 3D. To begin with one of the more enjoyable aspects, the story is the main driver of this show without question. It was indeed the story that kept me watching at all. The Heroic Legend of Arslan attempts to weave a grandiose legend of betrayal, heroism, zealotry, and pretenders to the throne. In a lot of ways it felt like they were going for a kind of Iliad vibe, given the emphasis on heroic aristocracy. But of course there w…

This is just a show that I randomly watched & I was really surprised how good it was, at least imo. I do really enjoyed it The storyline is pretty straightforward & the writing might not be as good as Code Geass or AoT but in terms of action & war theme. This is one of the best I've ever watched so far.Tbh, I do like how realistic & believable this show is & although the writing is not a masterpiece, it's still good enough. For the 2015 animation, this one really surprised me how well they handle the war part. Most part of the war scene is actually an animation & not a frickin CGI like Nowadays show. For that part, I must gave this show a credits for it & for the animators too. The MC may not be the best characters that's ever created but I really like how realistic he is as a fictional…

The best way to describe the story of Arslan Senki in a more concise way would be:An epic story with a pre-modern way of narration, transcribed into the medium of Japanese animation. The original work a novel that is 14 volumes long, takes inspiration from a Persian epic from Qajar dynasty era.The setting itself is historical as much as possible. However, maybe unavoidably, the heavy use of anime tropes and directional choices which make this story more perceivable to general audience are there.Despite this, over the course of the show, the style and the story don't let go off the seriousness brought by that epic setting in ancient times fully. Story:Story revolves around a compassionate young prince and his loyal followers.Faced with the task of reclaiming the throne, they struggle to reunite wh…

Arslan Senki is a good piece of adventure. Arslan presents us with a simple narrative, with points already seen in other works, but, thankfully, it presents very interesting characteristic points. Prince Arslan, for sure, the biggest highlight of the work, is an atypical character, because he has that innocent, fearful side, but a clear evolution is seen, and that cowardice ends, with time, becoming determination, because behind from fear, there is also a yearning for justice and a strong temper, capable of making great warriors and sages follow him, even if he is a young man, without much skill in swordsmanship. Apart from Arslan we have other very relevant characters, like Narsus and Daryun, who are quite charismatic, and despite not having much development, are relevant enough. Arslan'…

PROS: -world building started nice -started good and interesting in the first episodes - the documentary like story telling was nice -architectural design was well done -OST was very well done and helped a lot in establishing the atmosphere CONS: -characters were uninteresting and static. They dragged down the story a lot. Mostly it felt like they were puppies who were doing what plot wants them to do and didn't get much depth. -power dynamics were unrealistic, and most battles were 85-95% plot 5-15% strategy. War tactics were treated as a magic wand, and to the trained eye many outcomes were also unrealistic. Characters' powers were exaggerated which conflicted with show's overall focus on trying to be realistic. -didn't have a conclusive ending -main story --arslan gaining some comm…

tl;dr: A solid story of a prince’s growth but somewhat lacking in how it tells the story of everything surrounding that. This show is ultimately the story of a prince, Arslan, growing up into a king. The first episode is just to provide background on the world and some characters, after which there is a time skip of a few years to where the true story starts. This story starts off incredibly depressing, where there are multiple episodes of where everything that can go wrong going wrong terribly. It is under such circumstances that Arslan’s journey begins, though the depressing tone does vanish not too far in. Through his journey he gain various companions and meets various others, which leads to a string of conflicts. The purpose of these events are to show how Arslan reacts to different…

Arslan Senki is a relatively simple story in the war genre. It is about a prince, named Arslan, trying to regain his home from invading armies. The beginning of the story is pretty slow. You have to persevere to get to the good stuff. The fourth episode is where the show starts to get interesting, where the characters make plans for the reconquest of Arslan’s home. The strong points of the story are that it is well written. The plot was clear, comprehensible, and exhibited no major plot holes (I’ve watched many animes with confusing, badly written plots, so Arslan Senki’s strong script was quite refreshing). The military tactics and strategy also made the series interesting. Political intrigue is another big part of Arslan Senki, and the writers succeeded in giving the story compelling pol…

So, this is maybe half-review, half nitpick. Apologies in advance. I am compelled to write this because I am Iranian, and this anime is (very very very loosely) based on ancient Iran; specifically, on the epic of Arsalan. So it's a fictional take on what is already a combination of history and mythology. For this reason, perhaps I should not be so nitpicky. But there are not many animes set in Iran (or a fictional version of Iran), so I was really eager to watch this one and am thus, compelled to be nitpicky. Firstly, what I liked about this? I liked the world, I liked the characters (more specifically, Arslan). I liked the theme of leadership and what it really means to be a leader as well as the repercussions of choosing the wrong leader (this was alluded to many times throughout the…

Spoilers and a lot of them. Read with caution. How do you tell a good story? What defines a bad story? Who is the audience and what is the message of your story? These are questions an author must face when writing his story – the author must answer all of these questions beforehand in order to tell his story in an understandable way. I believe that every story, no matter what medium or genre it is in, needs a core message – a message that the audience can understand – that is, undoubtedly, what tells a good story from a bad one. We’re all familiar with different stories; we’ve read, seen and heard countless of stories; stories that spark interest and evoke certain feelings and emotions. It is commonly known that suspension of disbelief is something of very important nature in your stor…

I am not usually a fan of historical anime but out of the ones I have seen, this one takes the cake. While a bit confusing if you lose track of the names, the story plot is exciting and full of action. And I am in love with the characters! Arslan is sweet and timid but knows what he wants and works hard to achieve it. His companions are brave, strong, and intelligent. This is not tagged but I find this anime quite mysterious. With war, a mystery of origin, and lovable characters this anime is one of my favorites!

Arslan Senki Story; 5/10 The story is a textbook example of the 'Rags to Riches' story archetype with not much added to that. The protagonist Arslan goes from his life as prince to being a cast out, on his way he learns he knew nothing about real life and wants to become a good king when he claims back the throne. It plays of in a historical Persian/Middle-Eastern setting. Art; 8/10 Characters are drawn in the same style as FMA(BH), random backgrounds and buildings are very detailed with Persian and Middle-Eastern inspired patterns and architecture, most clothing designs fit the theme very well except for Falangies' clothing design of plain loincloth barely covering anything being very much fan service and not really fitting the theme or situations. Some of the characters feel a bit re…

Story: Arslan Senki has decent enough story, nothing praise worthy though. it's simple but along the way it got weird. it isn't a good action and war anime, it's more like a drama that took warfare as it's background, if that makes sense. To watch it is to commit yourself to a long journey (25 eps), cuz there's little going on in each eps but the journey in each eps is pretty good and overall pretty enjoyable experience. Character: Boy oh boy, the main character is really naive and kind (stupidly kind) which is annoying. The anime try to portray Arslan as a wise and intelligent prince, but that's a lie. Arslan is pretty much useless, most of the time he's just there just to be there. And if you watch close, he is more like a puppet king to Narsus, yeah he's young whatever. But man it ge…

I didn't want to watch Arslan Senki but boredom bit my ass and here we are, pals. It's all about some prince's journey who tries to get his city back because people betrayed him. Nothing new here. This is Akatsuki no Yona minus the romance (but no worries, the harem is still there) meets the Eastern setting of Magi meets Kingdom but without the captivating warfare narrative. I won't say it lacked action because it got plenty but it definitely lacked something that would have made the story enthralling. The mystery behind Arslan's identity was a good start. However, this subplot was not developed fully which left me with lots of unanswering questions. The characters don't change and are often one dimensional -- there are little development and even less growth. They are pretty much all OP…

I have really like the story of this anime, and the way it conects with the "real world" history, and the antique, medieval topics. But the main error of this anime are the combats, ridicule or stupid sometimes, and that makes me think: Why in hell the archers do not have aim? Or why are some characters too overpower? The anime does really conect with the World History, I am talking about the cristianismo and the realtionship against some religions in the region of the Constantine Empire. But in general it is a good anime, it could be better if it were more realistic in combat and war.
