S3 continues C's triumph. We meet members from many other clubs, including the current King of Karuta. The leadership uniformly despises him. He thinks Chihaya is a new shiny object.
We meet Porky's sister!
Dr. Haruda has a couple of very good tournaments. Will his knees hold out?
Arata is back. He's talking to Chihaya. Alot. Taichi is suffering. He goes off to spend some time alone. Love grows and becomes increasingly important as the episodes are dealt. Poor Taichi. Mom did a whammo on him. By S3 💘 is a main focus, as well as showing how several players try to balance family, love, and friendship while maintaining a high level of play. Taichi likes a girl like mom - competitive, intense, driven… Chihaya may find Taichi's mother intimidating, but they have alot…

Even until season 3 I still don't understand about caruta sports? Quite entertained by the drama, but I don't fit the competitive sports genre anime with added elements of romance that look disgusting and eliminate the passion of sports genre anime lovers. Maybe this is what makes me choose to watch sports anime that are tainted with elements of romance. But according to my guess the main character is a woman and surrounded by men there must be romance, even though the description does not have a romance genre, but in season 3 the romance seems real.. Hhaaaaaa.. Very disappointing to be fooled.. So the point is I don't really like the competitive sports genre tainted with elements of romance that is a consideration in my assessment.

Three seasons in and, honestly, I’m still left wanting by this series. As per usual, it does a lot of things well, but by focusing chiefly on karuta (it somehow feels like it's doing that even more this season, though I haven't verified that), it misses opportunities to make the most of what it has built up over all this time. The mid-season confession(s) (one was a pseudo confession to someone entirely different) felt ham-fisted and barely panned out to anything, and the season finally seems to realize it can do a lot more in its last few episodes, producing some legitimately great stuff just in time to leave us in a very strange place.
This season is mostly hitting its stride when it is focused on side characters. Dr. Harada gets a solid arc in this that evokes a bit of an even better (…

I wasn't going to make a review for this because it was obvious that it was going to be good continuing off the last two seasons and I had made reviews for those two already so what else is there to say?
Well I realized something. First off, it's been years since I've seen S2, and S3 has been out but it wasn't dubbed right away because of the pandemic. Well they caught up and now so have I and the dub really was worth it. I'm sure the sub voices are great but something about those English voices really gets me, especially Mashima. (I know, I mention it every time)
The main thing I wanted to point out is that despite being a card game, which might seem kind of dull in concept, they always keep it interesting, not just visually but musically and contextually too. I never would've thought o…

What makes an anime a masterpiece? Many of us ask this question when we review, rank, or just think critically about an anime. I had trouble finding the answer to this question because I usually chose the anime that I loved the most; however, the Chihayafuru series has made me realize what it takes for an anime to break the barrier between just being an enjoyable anime and being an unquestionable masterpiece.
Let me first start off by saying that the Chihayafuru series as a whole is not for everyone. If you do not enjoy a slice of life/sports anime with a strong premise on characterization, this will not be your cup of tea; however, for those of us who do, it will be a favorite.
While enjoyable, the first two seasons of Chihayafuru do not offer anything but a buildup to the climax, whic…

Note: This is a review for all three parts.
Chihayafuru, for me, scratches the itch that I look for in sports anime. The show does not blind itself too heavily with the sport at hand and instead takes the time to foster care to the characters and the core ideas. While not seemingly a sport in the traditional sense, the way the game of karuta is a displayed through the show's runtime is one that pushes the character's to their physical and mental limits, essentially serving the same purpose as any traditional sport would.
And while the game of karuta is very much a significant piece within the show, it is the characters through and through that shoulder the weight of the show's core ideas and narrative. The main trio of Chihaya, Taichi, and Arata are all amazing characters as each one go…

250 WORDS OR LESS REVIEW:
With every step forward Chihayafuru 3 takes from its predecessors, it simultaneously takes a step back. With the romantic element more present, the characters are the most nuanced they’ve been. There are a lot of interesting dynamics, and it wasn’t limited to the main cast. They would have been more complex with a restraint on flashbacks; instead of the audience having to piece together why a character would do something, the show (mostly) tells us why instead. Has more subtext than the previous seasons, as well as re-opens those thematic elements they teased in season one: gender politics, embracing Japanese roots, Taichi’s overbearing mother, Chihaya’s future (dealing with logic vs passion), and more sports themes. However, it’s becoming a trend with Chihayafu…

"Chihayafuru"-- I first discovered this anime a while back but decided to hold off on watching it after the first few minutes into season 1 episode 1. I thought "Karuta" ? whats that ? it seemed boring. However, now after completely all three seasons of Chihayafuru, i can confidently say that had i not watched this anime i would have regretted substantially.
On the surface, "Chihayafuru" seems like a regular slice of life anime that focuses on the bonds of friendship and rewards of hard work and perseverance, gaining its high rating through attractive characters and an above average art style. However, behind the facade of a regular, mundane slice of life highschool anime, Chihayafuru holds so much more. Chihayafuru is an anime that accurately depicts emotion, substantially develops char…

Chihayafuru overall is a good manga-anime in its own league.
What I love about it is its consistent focus on Karuta, without sacrificing any charms. There are messages hidden in every character. It's truly an inspiring experience. The art is astounding. From season 1 to now, the story has lots of metaphors, all are delivered nicely.
The sound effects could be way better though, there are some parts when my emotional flow was cut short because the music was a bit off.
And the story was nice. New members join the Karuta club, they are all interesting and relatable. And we finally get to see Mashima's character development. There are times when I wish Mashima to be the protagonist of the series, I truly root for him because all his efforts finally bear sweet fruits. That satisfaction, w…

I'm not a native English speaker, and this is my first ever review. These are my opinions on the show, so please refrain from causing controversy, as I've tried my best to avoid such things from happening. Please read this with a grain of salt. And there are spoilers.
I don't have time to review season 1 and 2, but let's say for the most part: it was amazing. The journey countinue onwards with season 3, and it has not failed to impress me!
This is one of the rare gems in anime, one of the rare shows that managed to not only keep its quality consistent for 3 seasons, but also gradually improves later on. Chihayafuru takes us through a colorful journey of hardships and endeavors of the main trio (Chihaya, Arata and Taichi) playing and improving at the game. This show captivates the viewers…

A pleasant surprise. Featuring wonderful art, music and astounding character development with a sports-centred story revolving around the Japanese card game karuta.
You'd think an anime about classical Japanese poetry would be boring, but Chihayafuru introduces the game excellently and weaves the game with all of the character's personalities and how the game influences, and has impacted their lives.
The karuta matches are more action-packed and entertaining than some action anime - and every character, not just the protagonist, is developed and given attention to during this season. Chihayafuru is a nice blend between slice of life, sports and romance, and there is a proper competitive mood during the entirety of this show - as every character wants to be the best.
There is nothing neg…

This 3rd season starts strong, but the ends up spending far too much time on the melodrama. The first 2 seasons are definitely stronger and tightly knit.
The story itself is quite entertaining and fun to keep up with, but I feel could be a lot better without the romance, which actually felt like it got in the way of an otherwise strong cohesive story.
Combine that with the insistence on 25 episodes per season for 4 seasons to match 100 karuta cards (it's symbolic and artsy, you see), and you get episodes with long periods of 'filler', with characters staring into the distance, localized wind blowing hair and sparkly scenes.
On the plus side, most of the characters do show development. The protagonist does show a little growth as well but compared to her supporting cast it's barely not…

Phewww~! Can't believe I was a year late to watch such a wonderful season of Chihayafuru. First of all, I'd like to inform that I'm a big fan of Chihayafuru. Therefore, this review might emphasize the abundant excitement I feel when I was completing the series. If you have not watched the first and second seasons, this third season might be a little difficult to follow.
Unlike the previous seasons, season 3 gives more screen time to other supporting roles that we all love! Harada sensei, Shinobu, Suo Meijin, Sakurazawa Sensei and several newly-introduced characters. Is it good? Well, it's yes and no. It's good because you won't be fed with Chihaya's greed to win with Mizusawa; it's bad because some development that should happen for the main characters were neglected. However, it does no…

Chihayafuru is, like a lot of its promotional art, shrouded in the sweet scent of blossoms. From front to (current back) it’s continued to be an emotionally tumultuous journey for myself. For no good reason at that, but just because I have such a ridiculous connection to this show and characters. I don’t usually feel on the urge of weeping at the smallest of smiles or a hint of blush, but here we are… Karuta continues to be as ephemeral and incomprehensible as ever. The various wins against titanic opponents are kept more believable for it. And you know, it’s a card game with a random draw factor. Fraternising with lady luck and the “heart of the cards” is a genuine strategy in this show. While attempts are made to keep an element of “sport-tism” about the way in which competition is prese…

Taichi's character is so well written that it almost makes every other character seem bad.
That's only half a joke, the anime does such a good job of making you feel for Taichi and want to see him succeed. He's a character that is constantly beaten when he's down, so when he does have little moments of victory they feel so satisfying.
With other characters like Chihaya, you're not surprised when she wins, and you aren't really surprised when she loses. It's fairly formulaic and you can usually pretty easily tell when the writers are going to have her win or lose. Although this isn't always true, it's what you're dealing with most of the time. With Taichi on the other hand, it's always unknown whether he's going to pull through and win or fall behind and lose. (Although keep in mind thi…

Chihayafuru 3 is a fresh, compelling entry in the franchise that builds on the things the show does well while adding some new twists and turns. The show continues to excel at developing all the characters in its universe and generating interest and suspense in the character interactions. While some of the matches drag in my opinion, the stakes continue to increase in this season, which largely gives the matches gravity and pulls the viewer through them. Some surprising characters get a lot of screen time this season, yet because of how they are developed and the attention given to relationships between characters, I found it refreshing and engaging as much as anything. This season also features more focus on romance and some long-awaited strides in romantic sub-plots, although, as usual,…

This anime definitely is not for everyone. I don't know why is it rated so high, by so many people. I'll explain just 7 points why you can watch it and why you can't.
1. The character TAICHI is one of the major reasons I kept watching the 3 seasons and anyone would love his character more than any other character in the series (say it girls or boys, they'll get impressed). He's a childhood friend of Chihaya, the girl whom he liked ever since 6th grade. They're high schoolers now, but he's not able to confess because he thinks that she likes Arata, another childhood friend of both of them. The major reason of Chihaya always Admiring Arata is the game karuta (a traditional Japanese card game) that she wants to excel at. She looks at Arata with admiration only because he's the one who gave…

Once again, the 3rd season picks up exactly where the 2nd season left off. Most of the season takes place during the second half of the second year of Ayase and Mashima in their high school Karuta club, except for the last couple of episodes, which take place during the beginning of the third year.
While the first two seasons focused mainly on Ayase and her desire to claim the title of Queen, the third season focuses more on the male Master tournament, focusing on Wataya, Harada and to some extent Mashima's attempts to claim the title, as nearly everyone in the Karuta society seems to want the current Master (Suo) gone, as his play style and overall general behavior leaves a lot to be improved.
Like always, the show shows the background and personality of Suo, which is very unique to Chiha…

ちはやふる 3 is an endearing sequel to the past seasons with the same distinctive charm and a lot of heart. It is a really beautiful series that appeals to a wide audience with excitement, fun and emotions and entertains them great. The third season, my third review of the series, and I still recommend the series as much as I did at the beginning.
Story: Familiar, yet different & new, so that tension & excitement arise again (9/10)
The story follows a very plausible structure. While I understand that shifting focus from teams to individuals is a source of discussion and a certain sense of disappointment for some, but it is precisely this development and change that spans all three seasons that is both the reason and a guarantee for that great entertainment value from the series as a whole. I h…

I don't know what's all about with this review bombing mentioned. Here I'm just fairly pointing why for me 3 season was a disappointment. After picking up the whole series just a week ago.

And oh boy it was. The story was much worse than in earlier seasons. Characters felt like they stopped growing and became more and more childish. With the ultimate transformation of Taichi into a toxic jerk, who doesn't care about people and their reaction to his actions. Only he and his feelings were important. The story was overly focused on creating a love triangle, rather than showing fine sports/school life like in previous seasons.
Nevertheless, anime was still was full of beautiful art an interesting karuta (maybe not so much as I hope, but still.) And it doesn't deserve to be ju…
