I think there's never been a time when I've been so certain of a word being the perfect use case to describe something as I do now. This is the perfect encapsulation of a cash grab. It bastardizes all that came before in favor of a haphazard attempt at emulation that is underwhelming on every front. It lacks everything besides the most superficial aspects of what made the original series good, and it is a waste of time to even bother with this, as it lacks the scope, writing, and roster quality to even be comparable.
Senseless nostalgia-bait not even worth criticizing in depth. Avoid at all costs

TL;DR: The animation is the best thing about it and I wouldn't even call it exceptional.
A poor entry in the Code Geass series. Character are all pretty shallow and uncompelling if developed at all in the show. The plot is somewhat okay in the first half, but it quickly falls apart in the final eps. There's a certain characters motivation integral to the plot which is not even revealed in the show at all. You can't even call this show amateur's work, it's just bad.
DONT even get me started on the verisimilitude of this show. Code Geass was never a stranger to pulling stuff out of its ass at times, but it was never as drastically unbelievable or stupid as the things this show reveals or asserts at times (quite a bit is to do with 'Loki').

Episode 1-9 is very good, has fresh ideas and interesting plot. The MC is interesting and likeable.
BUT THEN IT WENT DOWNHILL FROM EPISODE 10-12 AND THE ENDING IS SO BAD AND RUSHED!!!
The idea and plot is interesting, but they messed up a lot of things in the middle.
Things that are wasted and regrettable in this anime:
- The Main Villain still not giving his purpose even until the anime is ended
- Meaningless / unnecessary "sacrifices" plot at episode 12 - and I don't feel sad at all with the sacrifices plot
- a lot of cameo from previous series could have been better and give more meanings
- Sakura's backstory is not explained
- Rushed epilog story
- and basically a lot of things ended up unexplained!!!!!

Unfortunately even worse on a rewatch a year after my first time.
This is a show that has nothing to say, takes no risks, and refuses to have actual stakes or character development. The best comparison I can give is that this is the Star Wars sequel trilogy of Code Geass. The first two episodes suggest the possibility for something good, and that potential occasionally peaks through, but unfortunately the show is terrible. They genuinely pull a "somehow Palpatine returned" for 0 reason, don't present any meaningful ideological concepts, and bombard you with terrible fan service. Don't get me wrong, I love some good fan service, but the amount of rediculous boob shots for a show with zero sexual tension is tonally confusing. Disclaimer: I have watched all the anime-related media of this franchise and not the LN/Manga spin-offs of the series - though they are not entirely relevant for this review. I will recommend viewers to watch the original series or movie series (no need to watch the spin-offs) since it would provide better context on the comments and views regarding this series.
Story: As it has been presented the story is set some time after the events of the 4th movie - Reserrection. It seems to continue themes that the fourth movie had revolving around the aftermath of Zero Requiem. The main issue is that this has not been completely thought out that for this series. It's very tempting to recommend Rozé of The Recapture, because despite its flaws, it is worth watching. However, given what those flaws are, some people just won't be able to overlook them and will find it disappointing or frustrating. Whether or not I recommend this depends entirely on your ability to overlook Recapture's forced proximity to the original.
Even as a Recapture defender, it's very obvious that this series was forced into existence. Instead of coming up with a new conflict for the series, they've put Japan into another fight for its life against Britannia, or rather Neo-Britannia, as they've recaptured Hokkaido, hence the title. This series is not recommended at all. To begin with, they don't explain anything, or at least nothing understandable, to place the anime within the Code Geass universe. They have a well-developed universe, rich in characters, settings, and resources, and they completely squander it. The first episode has a 7/10 rating, and the scores keep dropping with each episode. At 7, it seemed like they might recover somewhat, but they wanted to cement their reputation as a failure. They truly misused the Code Geass universe. I thought Star Wars Episodes 7, 8, and 9 were bad, but this far surpasses them. A very bad series; they dishonor what Code Geass once was.

Story: It had potential, but there were only 12 episodes, so there’s no proper build-up. While the movie made sense to me, this time it seemed like an excuse to disturb the peace. But again, I put that out of my mind while watching. Still, the story didn’t feel good. We learned some things here and there, but they were kind of random. The way the story ended also felt weird. I'd give this an overall score of 7/10.
Compared to the original run of Code Geass with Leloush this is a big downgrade in storytelling and character design. Sakuya is a cute character but still lacks a lot to be even a close comparison to Leloush.
Overall it's a chill series, the villain isn't very well made aswell if you havenn't watched Code Geass: Leloush the Rebelion and everything else related then this should be your first watch and then move onto the other parts bcz those are much more interesting.
I'd still recommend somewhat watching this, it's still alright just for my personal opinion, not the best out of the series.

One thing I really, really hated was, it destroyed everything achieved in original Code Geass.. It felt like they made a a typical Marvel-like "back to square one" sort of soft reboot.. Because after 50 episodes, a 3-movie re-write and another movie later, they are back to status-quo Code Geass started with; A Geass user and rebels saving exact same people from exact same oppressive enemy by taking very similar actions (which only differ in being on simpler and shallower than original).
Had this been an original Anime, I would have labeled it "A perfectly watchable Code Geass knock-off", but with Code Geass name on it I just don't understand why they even made this.

If I was to describe this show in one word, it would be: RUSHED
Everything about it was rushed. The story, the production, the promotion, you name it.
I'm no expert on writing, but I have written enough to know when something hasn't reached that next level. I feel like the writers needed another year or two to really flesh out the story. Had they done so, this may have been comparable to the original series. Yeah, really.
It needed 24 episodes as many shows need nowadays. The era of 24 ep animes has died unfortunately as studios prefer to pump out series upon series to get the "next hot show" instead of really putting time and effort into doing justice to one series at a time.
Kinda liked it, but like I said, rushed.

Looking back on it the first episode already showcases everything that is wrong about the series. Despite the online consensus and general discourse revolving around this show, I found it to be quite enjoyable, and that's coming from a long-time fan of the original series.
Where Dakkan no Rozé shines is in Ash & Rozé's character dynamics. Previous entries had a similar premise to this one, and the knightmare fights are as good as always (I would daresay this entry has the best in terms of animation & choreography), but none of them had this level of intrigue in how character relations would play out over the course of the series. This alone was enough to have me invested in how the conclusion would be handled.

If this is the quality of sequels/spin-offs, I wish I never see another one. If you thought Resurrection was bad, wait until you see the climax of this. Totally opposite of the usual Code Geass vibes, it was as generic as it gets while sprinkling some aspects of nostalgia. Half the things made no sense, replete with plot holes, and the MC, who is supposed to beyond imaginably intelligent mastermind commanding everything, instead appeared to be always ten steps behind while getting outmanoeuvred at every turn. Such a shame. It had a lot of potential, and the first few episodes were good and had a nice build-up, but then everything fell apart rapidly, leaving nothing to be salvaged. I consider the story so bad that I don't care about the animation, it's still below average in my view.

This show is basically like if blueballs was an anime. Enjoyable at times, but ultimately unsatisfying. A lot of things happen in this show where it seems like they're building up to something, but with little to no payoff. The story itself was okay, not amazing but not terrible. You will laugh, but I thought this show had promise. A fast moving plot and plenty of big ass mechs? I'm there. Code Geass has a legacy that could never be properly matched (at least not by a successor series). Let's say it's as much of a rollercoaster in how the story's put together as it is an emotional rollercoaster
As it kicks off to a not so great start, we're thrown straight in the deep end with a new plot, new characters, and barely any time dedicated to building up this new part of the story, making the very rushed plot twist come off as being there just for the heck of it and leaving the characters feeling flat or even, in Rozé's case, unlikeable
