My Roommate is a Cat

My Roommate is a Cat

Introduction

Subaru Mikazuki is a 23-year-old mystery novel author, major introvert, and an awkwardly shy person. He would much rather stay home to read a book than go outside and interact with others. Further exacerbating this life of solitude, his parents tragically died in an accident many years ago, leaving him alone in the world. One day, while giving offerings at his parents' grave, Subaru runs into a small grey and white cat named Haru, which he ends up taking home with him. Subaru, however, has never taken care of anyone else in his life—can he even take care of a cat? Haru is grateful toward Subaru, as he gives her all the food she wants—a luxury for a cat who is used to a rough life on the streets. But she notices that Subaru can't even seem to take care of himself! Will she be okay with this dunce? Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a human and a cat who try to foster an understanding with each other. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Most likely my favorite anime of the year, so soft and wholesome super enjoyable wish there was more but gods I truly adore this. It is a soft and wonderful choice for any sitting at home and relaxing night. It helped me relax after some long days in the real world. The animation style is easy on the eyes and the plot is easy on the heart. The characters were varied in personality and likeable. and of course the true main character the cat reminds me of my own little pudgy girl Salem. Only wish it were longer. Would recommend this to anyone but in particular sent it to a friend of mine who reminds me of the main character.

There are times in which, when one was in a spiral of grief or despair or some such, they might feel incapable of finding happiness or incapable of feeling it, no matter how reachable or close it might just be...it's similar to someone not asking for help, albeit needing it, as they never might have asked for it before. At times like this, connections are important for keeping oneself grounded. I think this story did a good job in portraying just that. The story's average but wholesome. The art style is average, but it fits the narrative (I mean, the cats are cute!!) The characters are likable, though you can't expect well-rounded, in-depth narrations for each character. Even the protagonist's character arc, emotional depth barely scratch the surface. Though I liked him getting himself ou…

My Roommate is a Cat is a very Decent Slice of Life anime that deserves more recognition. My Roommate is a cat is a 2019 Slice of life anime Animated by Zero-G. Starting off the plot of this anime is about as good as you can get with a Slice of life anime, There is lots of character development, Emotional moments, Happy moments etc. However not enough for the anime to be considered a Drama Anime. It follows the story of Subaru an author who's parents have just died and he finds a small cat at his parents grave and takes her in. The story then follows Subaru's developing life as he adapts to living without his parents and learns how to take care of a cat. Overall, It doesn't sound like a very interesting plotline but it very much is with the way they execute it. One of the unique things th…

My Roommate is a Cat is a slice-of-life anime that tells a heartwarming story about the connection between a socially withdrawn writer, Subaru Mikazuki, and a stray cat, Haru, who unexpectedly becomes his roommate. The anime skillfully blends light comedy and emotional moments as both characters gradually learn to open up and understand one another. Plot: The show’s central theme revolves around mutual growth and healing. Subaru, a socially awkward and introverted author, struggles with grief and human relationships after the loss of his parents. By chance, he adopts Haru, a street-smart stray cat. What makes this anime stand out is its dual perspective: the story alternates between Subaru’s point of view and Haru’s, offering unique insight into both their thoughts and emotions. This narr…

Story(10/10): Being an introvert, revolving around cats very much resonates with me. It is not only a slice of life, but attracting unexpected beautiful bonds from the universe when you unconditionally love something is shown in wholesome. Art(10/10): Every humane character is drawn very well and I loved okanami pretty much. Horu's flexible moves and licking gestures are portrayed too good. Sound(10/10): All the VA character was done great. I got dwelled with horu's meowing which reminded me of my first grey kitten coming as stray after few days of birth. The intuition and voicing over gave me underlying trust deep into cats and animals. Learning and understanding animals & birds language is love language. Hence this series is my love packed up💌. Overall(10/10): Just because my revi…

With a very somber backstory for the MC, the show never really picks up - it lacks the courage to investigate its own MC's 'complex' profile (the MC, in view is too shallow even though he should have been 'deep and complex'). The anime offers an interesting story telling technique of retelling the same instance of the story once from each side of the human-cat relationship, thus showing the human's perspective as well as the cat's perspective. The writer's choice to spoon-feed the MCs' (both the human's and the cat's) conclusions and explanations regarding the show's events of both past and present, is disappointing. Over-the-top slapstick 'comedy' (guys falling over by the slightest of touches or completely by themselves) combined with the human-MC heart-breaking back story, forms a…

This little anime right here showed the big boys what it is all about. A combination of wonderful character development, really welcoming and innovative story telling and a sometimes teary and easy going approach to the genre. (No spoilers) Plot: The plot is simplistic. A tried and tested approach of an episodic anime where every episode can be viewed on its own but with a greater story behind running all through the 12 episodes. What really sets it apart from the run of the bunch anime, of this structure, is that every episode has meaning, it has a greater purpose, everything happens for a reason and that I really appreciate. Its really well thought out for what it makes you think it is. You go in expecting mediocrity and it turns the tables and gives you a pleasant experience. Score: 7…

"My Roommate is a Cat" is one of those anime that seemingly offers "nothing" to some, yet could potentially be everything to others. The question of whether you will enjoy watching it (and, naturally, giving it a higher score) largely depends on your experiences in life and whether you can identify with (or "suffer through") the main character - or maybe you just really like cats. I say this because the anime is technically rather "bland" in all segments - mediocre animation and sound, dull dialogue and storyline (depictions of typical day-to-day events, as befits a slice-of-life, and nothing exciting), repetitive patterns (like the human, then the cat POV), cliché comedy bits involving a pet etc. The characters are all "supporting" and flat, except for the MC, and there really is no exter…

Plot MC is an introvert bookworm and author. MC parents die. A stray cat is separated from its younger siblings. MC adopts a stray cat. and life slowly starts changing for both of them become a family. We are reminded of the sob story of dead parents and separated siblings in every episode. Lots of flashbacks. Both the MC and cat act like tragedy heroines suffering from past trauma. This is annoying at times. we do get to see all kinds of warm memories of both MC and the cat, so it is still worth it at the end. I would not call it the best SoL. But it is definitely not bad. There are plenty of warm fuzzy moments which are the main source of attraction for SoL. The cat is also super fun, and its reactions towards other characters give us a lot of cute and funny moments. Characters well.…

This is such a cute and wholesome anime. The mc has a really sad backstory and lots of regrets, and soon meets a cat he doesn’t have a clue how to take care of. The character development and every event that happens in this just strengthens their bond more. There isn’t any unnecessary screaming or sudden turn of events, and all the reactions are so relatable. Each episode splits between two POV’s, the mc and the cat. You can see just how deeply they care for each other and their bond only gets stronger each episode. 10/10 I definitely would re-watch.

Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. (2019) This was a hard-hitting story that is a true coming of age show. Some people hate this purely because they don't like cats and won't look at the story in a good light at all due to that. "I wish it was about the dog" yeah yeah whatever. The story is pretty tragic for both the MC and the MC cat. They both have love and loss, so they become a pretty great matchup in this show. I was expecting this to be a light-hearted show not so serious and deep. As far as the story goes there were a few moments I actually cried since it can be so beautiful. The art is a very good standard for this sort of show. It isn't the extreme level of art you can see in other shows but it does its job to an excellent standard. The sound is lovely and really bri…

This was my youngest brother's first anime that he and I bonded over. As a whole, there isn't a single bad thing I can say about the anime. The dub is beautifully voice acted, with Jad Saxton as Haru. My Roommate is a Cat is a comfy, and relaxing experience that will leave you satisfied if you're into mature, slice of life comedies, or if you just love cats. The art is beautiful, the story is heartwarming, the characters are interesting, and the music is top tier. Haru will melt your heart, and leave you a fan without fail. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a good experience. 9/10

This Anime is about "Mikazuki Subaru", an introverted mystery writer who one day finds a stray cat while giving his prayers to his deceased parents. He takes in the stray cat & starts living together with it, and thus checks out the title, "My Roommate is a Cat". There's really nothing great or unique about this anime, if I'm being honest. It's your same old introverted protagonist not being able to form a connection with the outside world supported by a generic one-dimensional, uplifting cast of characters who help him get through his troubles & motivates him to become a better person in this overly kind world. BUT what this Anime does well is, how it conveys it's message without any unnecessary sugar coating or overblown melodrama and that is; "Show some courage". Our main character Su…

The moment I finished the first episode, I knew that this was going to be added to my list of comfort animes. I'm an introvert who very much gets joy at being alone. I don't hate people but I don't want anything to do with them and yet, I still wanted to learn more and experience more. What made me love this anime was the sheer joy of seeing Subaru moving forward and appreciating more what he have in his life and it all it took was when Haru came to his life. Subaru learned how to take care of himself more after learning how to take care of Haru. The story is heartwarming and deep and it was further elevated with the good music and the amazing art. As for the characters, all of them are amazing. Their dynamics and interactions are natural. Haru is a gem.

Hands own one of the most wholesome and chill anime ever created. I could watch this over and over again, and not get tired of it. It is a very relatable series for Introverts and cat-lovers (pet-lovers). Perfectly depicts how most Introverts functions in society, and how small steps matters a lot. Small steps, baby steps, small progress are still progress. They will make a change in your life, if you put in effort. That's what the anime taught me. The opening music video perfectly described Subaru Mikazuki and Haru's relationship, it's a really well made and edited too. Coincidences here and there. Haru's scenes are the cherry on top. "Food is really important!"

TL;DR : wholesome show with a banger opening, humanized cats that may feel a little awkward from time to time but still the assurance of spending a good time watching. Despite that it still left me slightly irritated for reasons I'll develop now. This is the story of a lonely grieving guy who opens up to others after he rescues a cat, and the story of said cat. In theory this would be a cute and heartwarming story for everybody, after all it's about all these caring people that are nice to each other you know, and CATS. Except that for me, the underlying message of this anime is messed up. Let me explain : There is this guy, Subaru, who is visibly extremely uneasy with people around him, and generally likes peace and quiet. But the anime tells you he actually doesn't ! He just doesn't kno…

I'm not a cat person. This is mostly due to my allergy, but it led me to not care too much about felines. The creators of this story most certainly were cat people. I thought that the decision to switch perspectives between the protagonist and his pet would grow old quickly, but I never felt that by the end. Being able to hear the cat's inner monologue was a lovely touch, and I enjoyed seeing the writer's interpretation of how a cat would see the human world. The show has some funny moments, but the emotional aspect is the main pull of the story, and learning more about the protagonist's backstory, as well as how his new cat pulls him out of his depression, is a winning combination. Regardless of your opinion on cats, this is a short, beautiful story about how animals fit into our l…

If you have a cat or any other pet, if you like cats or pets, then you're gonna love this anime! If you've lost your closed ones and like pets or own them, it's a must watch! Unique way of showing the cat's perspective on things, the way cats see the world. How we maybe selfish at time and don't give enough attention to people or pets around us. For people who think cats are selfish and narcissists, they need to watch this and perhaps rethink their opinion. Overall a good anime highlighting the importance of relationships and feelings of both human and animals.

Slice of life with a human and a cat as a main characters. Subaru just lost his parents on a bus accident and adopt a stray cat that found in the cemetery. Then he start to learn how to take care of his new friend and also learn how to interact with others knowing the value of family and friends. You can't expect an amazing story or awesome plot twist. Just the story of a lonely writer and his cat making new friends and achieving new horizons in his life. Well, this anime has the most handsome characters i've ever seen, and all the scenes are colourfull and bright, which gave some kind of warm peace. If you are having a boring weekend and like slice of life anime do not hesitate on watch it.

I will begin my review by saying that this anime is " Simply Beautiful". A masterpiece of its genre. It begins with an interaction between the protagonist and a cat which soon develops into a feeling of trust and love. This anime will make you smile and at moments it will fill your eyes with tears. Watching the protagonist slowly learn the importance of others in ones life through his cat is beautiful and satisfying. All the characters are great. I recommend this anime if you like " Slice Of Life" anime. This is an underrated anime and deserves a lot of appreciation.
