Hello, and welcome to another episode of anime reviews. Today, we're going to talk about Durarara!!x2 Shou, the sequel to the popular anime Durarara!!. Now, I know what you're thinking, 'Do we really need another anime with a convoluted title?' But hear me out, this one is actually quite good.
Durarara!!x2 Shou picks up where its predecessor left off, with our favorite cast of characters in the bustling city of Ikebukuro. This time, however, the stakes are higher and the plot is even more convoluted than before. With new characters, new plot twists, and new mysteries to uncover, Durarara!!x2 Shou is a roller coaster ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
While the anime may not be as fresh or groundbreaking as the original, it's still a solid addition to the series. The animat…

Note: This will be a review of the second season in its entirety- Shou, Ten and Ketsu. It will also assume you've read my review for the first season and contain a few spoilers for that season.
Overview:
"Durarara!!x2" is the second season of the urban fantasy mystery anime "Durarara!!" and adapts the remainder of the original light novels that weren't covered by the first season. For the most part, this season does exactly what a sequel should do, wrapping up all of the plot points that were left dangling in the first season while simultaneously telling a number of new stories. While it doesn't do anything revolutionary in comparison to its predecessor, it didn't really need to, and ultimately it manages to live up to everything that makes the series great.
Story (8/10):
Several months…

I just finished Durarara Shou and I thunk it’s a good introduction for what’s coming in Durarara Ten and Ketsu.
Well, the story is good as expected although it’s not as good as the first season but I still enjoy it for some reason with the new character emerging.
So overall it’s a good intro for incoming conflict in Ten and Ketsu. I was Shocked about Mikado development. He just turn into something different person, well maybe it’s just his own nature and will to get out from his usual and ordinary life.
Storyline: 7
Art:7
Sound: 8
Overall: 7.6

I write these words after having seen the complete series.
I haven't read the novels, but from what I learned, it's a fairly similar adaptation.
Get to the point: The new characters introduced suck, Vorona is a character with very little charisma and her Argumental arc must be from the most boring parts of Durarara, just like her partner's arc.
It seems to me a very bad strategy to introduce more characters (when we already had a large enough casting) and not develop them or not give them striking personalities (as is the case of the dotachin group, which although they do not develop as much, each one shines for its unique and different personality).
The conflictive triangle between Mikado, Kita and Anohara became increasingly entangled, when this could be solved in a much simpler and fast…

SPOILERS AHEAD, so be warned on that.
Watching through the first season of Durarara, I quickly found myself drawn into it for the reasons most people seem to be drawn in: the stand-out voice acting in the English dub, the intricate story and the absolutely stellar development of characters. It felt, to me, sort of like a lighter-hearted Game of Thrones in that regard - the jumping back and forth of characters, the schemes and details only us viewers were fully privy to the full picture of, etc.
It took a bit for me to watch Durarara!!x2 Shou fully - I think, more accurately, I needed some time to let what I watched stew in my head before I started watching it on impulse.
And I do have to say, for the first part of a three-part season?
I'm already seeing some really promising set-ups, p…

This season was better, but only because the story was worse.
Okay, so, I've finished the second season of Durarara!! I kind of feel like I didn't watch much. Based on what we were left with in the first season, not a lot of it got brought back up during this second round. Here's the thing: I didn't like the first season. The structure of the storytelling was too damn choppy, and it distracted from the actually decent story itself. This season was the opposite. I appreciated that this season backed off the overly unique storytelling avenue of making you figure out 3/4 of the story for yourself. I felt like I was able to have fun with the characters a lot more this season and enjoy the world they're a part of. However, the substance was just completely lost from the first season. Everythi…

now this, THIS is more like it.
i gave the previous season of this show a 6 due to this reason: despite fun af characters and very engaging arcs, the show was bogged down due to long stretches of boring linearity and conventional pandering.
thank GOD this season has NONE of that bullshit.
this is durararararararara!!!!! hitting its stride. it takes the momentum that was introduced to us from the handful of episodes in the first season, and BLASTS it up to 11.
right from the first episode, we're blasting rapid-fire through several new, quirky characters, new plotlines and subplots opening by the second, new developments, all in quick and brisk succession. there isn't time for us as an audience to breathe, and as one new mystery is opened up, ANOTHER one is introduced.
by the halfway…

If season one could be described as organized chaos, then season two can be described as organized chaos 0.75. It feels as though somebody REALLY liked how season 1 turned out so they opened up the script, and copy pasted that on here. Then they let some monkeys jump around and make edits to the details. The only improvement stem from the fact that it's a sequel. Since all the characters have already been introduced, there is less world building. Additionally, there was much less ridiculous narration (Although they still used it). Other than that, everything was just similar but worse than season one.

Well, I had to compare it to the previous season of Durarara and this is my overall review of the first part of the second season.
STORY:
It is comparatively slower than the first season yet the last few episodes did speed up. Loved the ending. Without giving too much away, I can say that the final plot twist was definitely my favorite of the show.
ART:
Could anyone complain about the art? Well I can't. I love the gloomy yet satisfying art style that goes perfectly with the type of show this is (since I can' find a genre for this show). It manages to capture Celty's black smoke with the mystery that it encompasses.
CHARACTERS:
Happy to see all my characters are back and love the new characters introduced.
The uniqueness of every character is ever present but what I found beautiful in…

Usually there's not so long of a gap between seasons, but good things generally come from things where the time is taken to make them; this is a great example.
Season 2 of Durarara, 5 years may have passed since the first season released, but only 6 months have passed in Ikebukuro.
Celty and Shinra's relationship is still one of my favourite things about this anime. It's so different, but they're so perfect and adorable for how minimal they act like a couple.
Mikado and Anri are still just friends, and Izaya is still causing trouble.
It all flows straight back into things really nicely, it doesn't feel like you missed out on anything and everybody is still the same.
Things seem to be back to normal since the gangs have settled from before. Keeping in mind, normal is a headless woman on…

It's been a while since I watched this but as I am catching up on the rest of the series right now i wanted to go back and make a few comments about this arc of the second season. First off if its been a while since you watched the first season you might want to go rewatch it or at least skim through the last few episodes. Especially if you watched the first season in a different language than your planning to watch the second. The chat room is going to be pretty important in this season like it was the first and you will get no reminders as to the real identities of the screen names which will make things confusing when they start throwing the new characters in there. Also because of the importance of recognizing voices in order to know who some of the chat room names really are in this a…

[Mini Review]
The five year gap between Durarara's first season and Shou may in fact be its greatest weakness. It's rather abrupt seeing these characters after so long, brought to life by a new, rougher art-style and now entangled in a complicated web of relations with new characters we don't yet know; it all is a little alienating at first, especially when the first episodes of this new season are largely spent parading around the setting of Ikebukuro, a large deviation from the action-packed finale of season one. I can't hold that against Shou, however. Its job isn't easy. It needs to recover old fans of the franchise while attracting new ones, set the ground-work for a second season that will be spread over three cours, while still having a definite na…

Hey folks, this will be a review for Durarara!!x2 Shou. When I watched the first season I started with massive interest and it began to wane as the first season ended. The lack of interest stayed as I watched most of the second season and I was ready to put the third and fourth season on hold as I catch up with other anime. However The last episode grabbed me again and offered up the temptations of a more interesting third season. That being said lets talk about the good and bad.
The story again is told in its sort of choppy way, which as I mentioned before is done really well. However the story no longer was interesting and made this form of transmission more tedious than enjoyable. You may not have the same views as I do though, seeing as the characters lives all make up the story. I ju…

I can understand why some people were somewhat disappointed with this since not very much really happens. These 12 episodes focused mainly on the introduction of new characters and not much can be done in only 12 episodes, unlike the first season which had a complete 25 episodes to get things running. However, I believe things to get much more interesting in the following arc. I waited 5 long years for this, and I re-watched the first season before I watched this and personally, I am not disappointing. Though these 12 episodes are a little more laid-back than the usual I enjoyed it very much and give it the same rating I gave the first season.

Not often are we presented with something truly unique. Most of the time, anime and all other works of entertainment are a compilation of different themes and tropes one has already seen somewhere else before. While Durarara is not necessarily an exception, it certainly tries to present its content in an uncommon approach, creating an incomparable atmosphere.
Unlike most other anime, Durarara does not have a protagonist but instead consists of a large ensemble of characters. Regular anime concentrate on not more than four characters while this one focuses on at least eight. Durarara is not the only anime to have an ensemble cast – Baccano and Fate/Zero come to mind – but not having a protagonist undeniably is a rare trait in anime. Of course, it is inevitable that there are characters who…

Durarara!! x2 Shou had mainly the same qualities as the first series. There was only one reason why I had to lower my rating from a 10 to a 9. It was because of how the show added several new characters and groups and how choppily they were weaved into the plot, such as the Awakusu group. The writers of the series were clever in incorporating some contemporary supporting characters and groups that had been shown in one or two episodes of the previous show, but for the majority of new ones not much of an introduction was given, thus making it more unclear for me (I was even fully awake and still had to do some Googling for background information). I still enjoyed this continuation of the original, but I finished the twelve episodes feeling confused (this confusion may be fixed with the next…

It is very obvious I am too lenient when it comes to judging however; Durarara is an amazing show especially X2 chapter 1. Without spoilers I will say if you like a show with a big colorful cast of characters, and character development with a psychological aspect thrown it to the mix with an unique art style, and good BGM; pick this show up! If you have an open-mind you'll see that it is impossible to hate any of the characters, and wish them the best. However, you'll soon realize that that is impossible, and can only sit back as this world of vertigo is unfolded around the characters, and around you. "What I'm trying to do is gather those sparks, and toss them all in one place. And then I'm going to say to them: Your vacations over you piece of shit!" -Izaya Orihara, DurararaX2 Shou Episo…

I'm a big fan of Durarara!! season 1, and absolutely loved the way the story was told. This anime is definitely my kind of thing. The characters, the plot, art style, and sound is all genuinely outstanding. I must say I'm enjoying Durarara!!x2 a lot more than 1. x2 will be aired in 3 cours (This being the first each consisting of 12 episodes).
Durarara!! is one of those mischievous anime's' with a complex story that is told through a variation of characters in each episode. Each episode is smartly crafted into a puzzle like piece where it forces you to watch, and continue the anime into the next episode in order to find out wtf was really going on. Certain people might find it exhausting to comprehend, but in the end you ultimately will understand it, since it's usually explained to you i…

When I was a teenager, one of the things I got to do through the good graces of my education was “shadow” a doctor at a local hospital. “Shadowing” derives its name from the act of following someone around everywhere, like a shadow, looking on as he or she does what needs doing for learning purposes. In this case, it was a series of medical professionals in the emergency center. There, I got to see quite a few things: a broken baby’s arm, a cranial injury, and other sick patients. But the most important experience I had from all this? I discovered what I didn’t want to do. I wasn’t fit to be someone in the field of medicine, because it wasn’t “for” me. In other words, I didn’t belong in this area, and finding this out as…

Here is the continuation of Durarara!! we’ve been asking for since 2010. Of course, expectations are high and that is always a recipe for disaster, at least for me. With the failure that was Samurai Flamenco (such a great human drama ruined by supernatural bullshit), it was only natural for the team behind Durarara!! and Baccano! to go back to a formula that worked.
Without giving much away, this second season focuses on a lot of the same characters as the first while also introducing a bevy of new, interesting people and factions, all competing against each other. There are Yakuza, Russian mercenaries, a biker gang, arms dealers, information brokers, a serial killer, lesbian twin sisters, and so much more. Through a web of intrigue and insanity we watch Celty, Mikado, Anri, and Sh…
