If Her Flag Breaks

If Her Flag Breaks

Introduction

In visual novels, an imaginary flag is defined as an event that serves as a turning point for the whole story. A player triggering the romance flag for a heroine will proceed to her route, or a death flag will signify that a certain character will die afterwards. High school student Souta Hatate can see these flags above a person's head, and has the ability to bring them down to stop certain events from happening. Using this power, he has prevented other people's deaths. But, after a past accident with him as a sole survivor, he ended up believing that only misfortune will befall those who are near him, and has refrained from making friends or having relationships ever since. However, everything starts to change after transferring to a new school. After toppling another death flag, his classmate Nanami Knight Bladefield notices his powers and tries to learn more about him, promising that she will remain at his side no matter what may happen. Thus begins Souta's journey as he meets new friends and acquaintances while uncovering the mysteries of his ability—which might run deeper than what anyone expects. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This anime leaves a strong feeling that something important was cut, especially toward the end. Characters like the teacher are introduced as if they have deep ties to the protagonist, yet there’s no prior screen time to support that connection. Moments that should feel emotional end up falling flat due to the lack of buildup. Still, for fans of the genre, there’s enough here to keep things interesting. The story has potential and a few good episodes, even if not all of them land. Go in with low expectations and you might enjoy the ride. Just don’t expect anything groundbreaking or any innovation.

I'm still trying to process the whirlwind of emotions I experienced. This anime is a masterclass in blending genres - comedy, harem, romance, and even science fiction! I know, I know, it sounds like a weird mix, but trust me, it works. From the start, I was hooked. Souta's ability to see "flags" on people's heads, indicating their hidden traits and desires, had me intrigued. And the girls! Oh man, the girls. Each one unique, lovable, and quirky in their own way. I found myself rooting for them, even when they were driving me crazy. But what really sets this anime apart is its ability to balance humor and heart. One minute I'm laughing out loud at Souta's misadventures, the next I'm on the edge of my seat, wondering what's going to happen next. And that sci-fi twist? Mind. Blown. I did no…

Initial watching resulted in dropping. I Returned in July2024 and found it entertaining enough to complete, it had a consistent plot although janky & fast paced during the mid-section but it remained entertaining. Certain aspects were lacking which made it confusing &/or predictable, especially during the final 2 episodes where everything sort of just goes crazy, a lot things become convoluted and things just happen. The biggest complaint would be the lack of use of the shows premise which is the Flag System & the MCs ability to affect them, the initial episode probably has the most use and afterwards, it becomes rather irrelevant outside of harem building especially during the final 2 episodes where it becomes basic anime magic. The characters were fun and of course it being a harem r…

At the beginning of this, I was really invested in the story. The idea with the flags was really interesting and a really cool spin on the Harem formula. But then they just kept adding more and more characters. By around episode 5 I was done with all the new characters they were adding but they just didn't stop. It also didn't help that in addition to having the harem plot, they decided to throw in a whole Isekai amount of lore into about 5 episodes of this show, leading to a lot of things in the last few episodes being really damn confusing. I still do this the show is overall good (even if I do hate the last like three episodes) because of how enjoyable the cast was at the beginning. If the show had stayed the way it was without all the Isekai stuff, it probably would've gotten a way hig…

This was a very nice surprise! The elephant in the room needs to be addressed first so it can be discarded and I can move on. This is not a harem show in the traditional anime harem style that we are used to. There are about nine females and one of femboi that love the MC, Souta. That being said, there is no extreme jealous and no fighting amongst each other. I'm not going to say that there aren't some jealousies at all, but they are extremely minor compared to what we usually see. That being said, let's move on. The concept for this show is unique and is executed so well. The story is allowed to flow and gradually develop. Characters develop in a very nice way. There's no major arc as all of them are really pretty great individuals from beginning to end and they don't need a lot of adap…

This anime ranges from trying to take itself seriously, to a lack of seriousness at all. It combines different elements of mystery of why the flags appear and change over some people, comedy on how some flags are removed and how they grow, the usual school harem style setting of many animes as well as the odd twist at the end. The basic idea is a guy can see flags spouting out of people's heads, and knows how to break them. They may be flags for the people to die, be romantically involved, request friendship, or move a story along. Our MC just tries to save people and keep people away from himself, with the fear they will just suffer for being around him, this of course, draws more people to him. As we push on through for his quest for the truth of the universe, we see people interfering…

Started watching this anime because I saw the characters were cute. Was expecting an op protag with the ability to change fate and gain a harem and it was that for a little while until the slap on the face came and it kinda ruined the anime for me tbh. I mean it's not a bad idea or concept I just don't like how sudden and a slap in the face that was. Of course I'm never going to spoil something in my review cuz I hate that but dang. It just went from an 8 to a 5-6 imo. It probably makes sense in the manga..... probably .-. .... Overall: 7/10 I'm generous ;p happy thanksgiving

For such an interesting premise, the show really let me down. Kanojo ga Flag is proof that a synopsis never describes a show well since the MAL synopsis is what made me watch it in the first place. The general idea is fairly interesting; the MC has the ability to see "flags" (in his case, literal flags) on peoples' heads that let him know what may happen in their future, or what their personalities are like. Given this, you might think that it would just be a simple harem romcom with him juggling like seven relationships around, but no. Right from the start, the plot is so thick you can't even tell what's going on. The show doesn't explain why anything is happening until like 3/4 of the way in. And even then, it has more plot holes than a ripped-up fishing net. The art and music are pret…

This is my first time write a review, so bear with me. Upon finishing this anime, it's quite a good to be honest. But... There is some things here and there that just quite don't make it. Story 6/10 The flag concept is very good. Unique in my opinion. I fist come to expect a general romance harem. Never expected it to be so weird in the end. Just like how bizarre JOJO is. Quite good in general. The progression is ok at start. Getting more and more bizarre to the end. :v Art 5/10 The way they animated this is good. There doesn't seem to be major flaws. the face, however, is quite weird tbh. The females eyes makes them look younger than they should. The style of a vintage anime quite similiar to clannad. I could accept that. Sound 8/10 Probably the aspect that stands out the most. It fit…

Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara is actually somewhat of a surprise to me, and I don't believe anyone could have predicted the changes, twists, and turns of the plot (nearly a change in genre even) that has taken place by the end of the story. As you can no doubt see from the synopsis, the show follows a male protagonist with special abilities and his friends, as they embark on a scattered and surprisingly complex series of adventures, revolving around the main's powers. However, I would divide this show into two phases: (1) the "setup" phase and (2) the "tying" phase. The setup is a slice-of-life harem comedy, while the tying is a science fantasy action show. I call the latter the tying because it ties together the many, many hints and plot threads that were created during the setup, and a…

This is the most ridiculous anime I've ever seen. I'm not even joking. It's awful. I mean, the beggining was good, it had potential, but then they just decided to screw things up and it turned on that... thing. You get what I'm saying during this review. Story: 1 Where those guys wanted to go while writing the script? I mean, it was ok in the start: a normal Harem with a little of fantasy in it, kind of good actually, but then in the 11th episode they just decided: "let's make a REAAAAALLY weird and confusing story to end this!". Like, they just decided to put a lot of things that could give us that good feeling of mistery in the start and did not thought how it would end. You see, it had plenty of potential, but many things were... confusing, at least. I did not expect for it to become t…

This review is available in English and Brazilian Portuguese: History: it is an anime with a very interesting story, a boy who sees the flags on the people, that the future of the person, with a tragic past, ends up going to a school, and ends up being surrounded of girls with loving interest on him . Its theme is to break like people's flags without getting involved with them. Characters: In general they are simple characters with different personalities, normal for a story that has its own name, a character that has a little knowledge in history, surrounded by some girls that have or not development, some individuals and other protagonists. I really enjoyed the development of the first two girls who appeared in the anime with the protagonist. Art: I found it childish, although detaile…

I'm going to judge this as a typical harem, to make it fair to the show. If her Flag Breaks should not lose points just for being a harem, because it was made for people who wanted to see a harem. *Story* 9/10 The story is pretty much your generic harem in the beginning, albeit a little different due to the addition of flags. The first few episodes consisted mainly of introducing the characters, and setting up the main story. As the story progresses, it shows that it is actually a well thought out story and actually provides reasons as to why he has his ability to see flags and why the girls in the show seem to gravitate towards him. Now, I'm not saying this story is stellar, I'm saying for a typical HAREM anime, it has a very good story. *Art* 7/10 I'm no art specialist when it comes t…

First of all, let me straight out say that I really didn't like this show at all. I thought that it was just a jumble of trashy cliches, and never really did anything at all. I thought that the show started out pretty well, it had a good unique concept that could really go to some great places as a romantic comedy, but it turned into a harem, a trashy harem at that. Story: 2 As I stated earlier, the story started out well, it had a unique premise, but for some stupid reason the show could not decide if it wanted to be a romantic comedy or a dark story--which I should add made zero sense. The show couldn't help but through cliche after cliche at you with literally every type of girl falling for the main character at the slightest hint of flirting. To make it worse the show makes it seem li…

Objectively, this anime was horrible. Every character was a trope, the plot didn't know what it wanted to do, and it was cliched to kingdom come; That being said I honestly really enjoyed this, bad Harem Rom-Coms are sort of my guilty pleasure and I can't help but like it. Every arc in the story was honestly just: encounter problem, look for solution, OooooOO plot twist, find solution; sometimes the plot twist causes the problem but that's only once or twice. And yet no matter how bad I know it is, I still love it. This last bit probably seemed kinda ramble-y but that's just because I finished what I had to say like 4 sentences ago but I had to make it longer

I would like to write: "HaHa" for about 20 lines of text and just be done with it but no... Let's look at it from different perspective. "KOGA" because i like to call this anime like that was... weird. But before we begin for real i'd like to say that i try to be as subjective as possible, i won't compare it to any other series with: better art, sound and storyline, no. We are here, and KOGA is the only anime existing so we'll be focusing on only KOGA and nothing that has no KOGA in it's name, ready? Let's begin. KOGA was weird not because of bizzare characters that are simple as a wooden plank. Come on! What could be simplier than a wooden plank? They were in fact very simple and not really interesting but THE STORY and not characters is the main flaw in this series, it tried to be deep a…

Screwed all this critics. This anime has depth and has plot. This is a MUST-watch in my opinion. Everyone has the right to criticise but you would definitely lose out to not watch this anime. TL;DR: This anime is 9/10. There are so much character development and enough girls for everyone. Also, there is enough plot twist. Then, this anime also looks deep into a little dark side of humanity and the main character's backstory. Cute, comedy, harem. :) Story: 9/10 Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara has lots of character development which gives it enough potential for a second season. It also builds up each backstory for all the character. Providing insight from best girl (up to your own definition) to the main character. You would be left wanting more story. Art: 9/10 The animation for this anime…

KANOJO GA FLAG WO ORARETARA TAKES ON A LITTLE TOO MUCH With vibrant colours, light-hearted music, a bland male MC and a large cast of female characters, Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara, or Gaworare, met the important criteria for a generic, if not enjoyable, comedy/harem show. It would have stayed an average comedy/harem show if it hadn't tried to take on too much at once. This great aspiration led to a series of mixed results which I'll explain by exploring key aspects of the show. ----------------------------------- Comedy or mystery or both? ----------------------------------- On the surface, Gaworare was a simple show of random comedic events that revolved around Souta and his ever-expanding mob of 'supporters' even though the show started out with a somewhat dark event involving a 'deat…
