I wanted to write this review because I did not see enough reviews criticising this show. The fans seem either absolutely blind to the content portrayed, lack critical thinking skills or are from the Victorian era. Honestly, even women in the Victorian era had better expectations from their husbands.
Romance: There is absolutely NOTHING ROMANTIC about this anime unless you consider constant verbal abuse and zero chemistry to be "romance". I would rather let my kids watch hentai and take away values about love from that than Itazura na Kiss. I saw many positive reviews and it is considered to be one of those classic romance anime that you are supposed to watch. Nonetheless, I got this absolutely horrible psychological horror disguised as romance. At this point I am beginning to wonder if t…

It would actually be a good anime if we didn't constantly see the male characters slapping the women they "love."
In some ways it's funny, in others it's annoying. Both characters are quite strange, so I think they're a good match. I've watched the anime and two different TV series based on it; it's become a story I watch out of habit, but it always feels that way. Naoki in the anime might be the best of them all, though. At least he told Kotoko "I love you" a few times. The others just say "I know." I'm quite curious about what the manga is like. Maybe I'll read it someday.

These two deserve nothing more than to be together. (Derogatory)
Even for a comedy, Naoki is over-the-top cruel and mean towards Kotoko. Kotoko, in exchange, is painfully stupid, and her *entire* personality revolves around crushing on Naoki. Despite all the abuse she receives, she continues to deify Naoki and treat her friends horribly if it means even getting a chance of possibly getting Naoki's attention. This show straight-up romanticizes toxic and abusive relationships, and it hides behind the Comedy label to do so. It goes beyond the suspension-of-disbelief for the genre and is infuriating to watch.
The show's only saving grace is that the side characters are more interesting and worth being emotionally invested in than the MCs. In particular, I loved Kinnosuke's character arc. Wat…

The only good reason to watch this anime is to have some insight on how things were going in the 90’s.
I don't blame the author for romanticising a toxic and abusive relationship because unfortunately this was kind of normal in those years.
But please watch it by keeping in mind that this is not a healthy relationship and if someone treats you this bad, you should run away from them.
I remember watching this anime and almost liking it when I was a kid. Now I realise how bad that was for my growth and self development. I'm glad to see how things have changed in the last decade and I hope the new generations will not be traumatized by media like millennials were.

[Spoiler-less review] Having watched a fair share on different romance anime I yearned for something more, something else. Never in a milion years would I expect an anime almost my age to fullfill my needs.
Why should you watch it: It is very different. It shows a love story from start to a kindof finish. It doesn't end in a first kiss, it goes after the happily ever after most shows end on. In a span of 25 (or rather 24 + 1 bonus story) episodes we get sweetest romance blended with slice-of-life and comedy, which slaps even after a decade and some. It should be on every romance lover's list, because it's unique, well-made, and just fun to watch.
A quick quality rundown:
Characters 9/10: Ah, the good 'ol smart guy - airhead girl dynamic. But this time? It actually makes sense. The characte…

A rare anime that actually finsihes. See most romance anime often end with them confessing to each other and ending there but this anime doesnt. Ofcourse I dont want to give spoilers but this anime makes you connect to the characters and it just gives you a very nice feeling when you end it. Honestly if you are a fan of romance anime defintly give it a watch. Also since Mal isnt letting me sumbit I am just going to some extra stuff to actually make it submit. So the story was not that unique but it was very fun, I think the art style is very fitting for the story, the characters are pretty well rounded I do still have beef with the ML but thats okay enoguh to ignore.

Its a really good anime, the history is great, have some good caracters, and development.
yeah, I know, that's a strange way to start an "not recommended" rewiew, but, I dont have so much things to criticize the anime.
But, if you arent an adult, please dont watch, you dont have anything to watch here, run away, its dangerous. this anime romanticizes problematic issues. i never seen an bigger example of how an relashionip can be toxic, if i need to choose between be in a room with irie-kun or with kid boo, i will choose kid boo, I would suffer less
Or maybe i choose the room with irie just to fight against him
He treat kotoko really bad, regardless of the situation. he act like a human only in the last 6 ep's
Have a lot of others problems, but if you are an person with a fully formed bra…

After watching ItaKiss my conclusion was, that classical shoujo anime isn’t necessarily my cup of tea. Still I’m gonna try to be as
much transparent as it’s possible and it would be a lie to tell, that I disliked show overall. Some elements were annoying or disruptive which quite meessed up my point of view. There were repetetive aspects which were used often in terms of character traits and relationships as such. Fortunatelly final part of the anime and it’s last episodes saved show in my opinion and I found them most enjoyable. ItaKiss is basically cliché shoujo romance with solid execution which is easy to love or hate, that’s why audience
opinions are so diversed. I’m little bit more on that positive note, although my preferation are other demographics for sure.

I take my time when I watch anime, savoring the experience as I go. What could be binged in a week, becomes a months, or at times, years long endeavor. “Itazura Na Kiss” has been a series 8 years in the making for me, finally coming into fruition recently in its full culmination. This series’ best exemplifies my evolution in personal tastes, growth in my own life, and a more thorough appreciation of complex characters in a story. “Itazura Na Kiss” is full of complex characters, meaningful plot points and adventures that line its path. In many ways, the series is a microcosm of life itself, painting a picture depicting the reality of a mature love story.
Love stories can often run together, or only display a small part of the picture. Many times, we look through a small window and in turn…

My Honest review about this anime, I can say this anime is way better than today's romantic animes
New romantic animes be like ends with 12th or 13th episode & their stories
Limited to high school only
But if I talk about this series, is the best shoujo ever
The comedy in this anime is very enjoyfull some characters may not likeable for some people but
I just loved the way how it showed their
Lifestyles after school life ,how they chose the career in their life
I really enjoyed the series very much
Maybe this anime can be old but I loved it
Thank you for making this series'
A very Recommended series 👍✅to watch

I was really excited to watch this anime because I knew this, along with the live-action version were really popular romance animes. Unfortunately, I had little to no enjoyment when watching it. I'm not against the enemy's to lovers troupe but, this entire show was pretty much just enemies to a one-sided love. I know that with Irie, his whole thing is that he's "Cool" but he treats her like absolute trash and literally only gets better in the last two episodes. I think the show also made it a running gag to have every other character point out that he treats her terrible and question why she's with him, but she just laughs it off and then says "oh well he is always like that!"
I'm sure if I watched this when I was a kid I would have LOVED this and thought it was really good but watching i…

For anyone planning to watch this anime, kindly turn off your logic, sense, pride and morals because you will NOT like this one bit.
ItaKiss is your stereotypical shoujo romance story... elevated to 11. No, not because it shows you a life changing message nor an ideal relationship. No, no, no... we don't do that here. There are only two characters to keep in mind for the whole story, just two, any maybe you can find yourself to enjoy and finish this classic:
Kotoko Aihara: Our heroine. She is an idiot. She is clumsy. She is dumb, naive, innocent, over the top, nice, lovable and utterly loyal. To keep it more short: she is obssessive and a masochist.
Got that? Good. Off the next one.
Naoki Irie: The male protagonist. He is a genius. A cold-hearted jerk, a meanie, stoic and an over conf…

This anime was good, but also annoying. It could be seen as unrealistic too. First of all, the main characters are definitely not for each other. The FL is obsessive and very emotional. The ML is a cold-hearted character that treats the FL like crap. He may like or love her but he certainly doesn't show it. The FL basically loves him because he's good-looking and "cool." And no matter how bad he treats her, she's blinded and thinks that he is the only one for her. I still enjoyed it because Romance is one of the top genres I love. But if you don't like weak FLS and mean MLS this will probably annoy you.

This is the ONLY review I've ever written for an anime, because I think it's important to write this. (note: there are no real spoilers.)
You need to be very careful taking something away from this show, especially as a young person trying to figure out what a healthy relationship is.
This show is hilarious and has some cute, honest moments that don't always show the positive side of people but show the truth. The lead male's mother in particular made me laugh more than anyone.
However. This anime has more red flags than I've ever seen. Treatment of friends, of family, of girlfriends and wives and everything in between, these characters treat each other like dirt. This is especially true for the relationship between the main female (Kotoka) and male (Naoki) characters.
Kotoka really pu…

I just had to make a review on this anime
Im a big fan of romance/shoujo anime and ive watched probably 105+? Romance animes and i must say this one was so good.
I like how the anime followed onto the adult lives of the characters and how lovable the other side characters are especially irie's mom. I also liked how alot of situtions happen and everyone got their happy ending. I was very upset on how i finish it quickly. At first i thought this anime would be bad but it could be in my top 10 romance animes. I really loved the comedy and romance in this anime but sometimes i would really hate the ml because of being too cold to the fl sometimes.
Story: 8/10
Not so unique but great
Art: 7/10

Although it can be frustrating to watch these characters from a modern POV (& with too many people comparing it to IRL), this anime & manga was/still is quite enjoyable to watch. There’s a reason why there were several drama adaptations of this anime in several Asian countries. It‘s one of the most successful ‘realistic’ (non magic) shoujo storylines.
It’s a shoujo with your typical tsundere character & follows the characters from high school through college & even after college. Not many anime’s/mangas do this! The anime did a great job finishing the manga story after the mangaka passed away. There’s character development & we!re given more of a reason through the story as to why the MC is in love with the tsundere. You can’t say that for a lot of shoujos that give shallow reasons for lo…

Did I enjoy it? Yes. Eventually.
Did it annoy me to no end? Also yes.
This anime is funny and has a wholesome vibe, which I enjoyed... up until multiple female characters are slapped in the face by their partners. MULTIPLE!! The best part? IT'S NOT EVEN ADDRESSED AFTERWARDS.
Just *bitch*slap*, then 2 minutes later they make up. No apologies. Nothing. Oh, but it must be for a good reason, right? NOPE. Just cause the girls get upset and act a little “hysterical.” APPARENTLY IT'S A CRIME TO CRY OR YELL.
Naoki Irie is supposed to be the heartthrob of the show and he's just a lil punk~@**
amp;#>% who you will hate because he has no redeeming qualities.
Even others who witness the violence just act like it's normal. I get that this is “another time” and another culture. But this show normalizes…Read at the sourceluosi
I roughly remember many years ago that this anime was my somewhat introduction into the shoujo genre being one of the first romance anime's I indulged in.
I won't deny the fact that it had me absolutely intrigued at first, I watched the whole thing, even though I was young I still found myself frustrated with how poorly Kotoko and Naoki acted.
At one point I remember myself wanting Kotoko to fall in love with Kinnosuke because of how absurd Naoki acted. Although the writer drew me back in and I fell in love watching whatever love they had on the screen.
Kotoko's character is sad to watch now that I'm older, I find myself noticing all the little things that I couldn't see before. The blatant shunning Naoki did, the back and forth misunderstandings, which I'll excuse since that happens…

Itazura na Kiss was one of the very first animes I had watched, and upon re-watching it years later, it is clear that the show still has some charm. It centers around the air-headed yet stubborn girl attempting to convince Mr. Know it All that she is the most deserving of all for his desires. I appreciated how the story doesn't stop at the typical point of confession followed by a couple of episodes of "oh look, let's celebrate with the newly dating couple", as it actually follows them further than that. Character interactions are what you expect, as previously sworn enemies turn into friends, and so on. My main gripe with the story though is the predictability of the actions. In one episode, it was clear as a transparent pane of glass what was to happen between the characters, which sort…

I picked up this series looking for a light enjoyable shoujo anime, but finishing Itazura na Kiss proved to be one of the hardest things I've done.
Starting the anime, my fears were that Kotoko would keep running after the guy after being stepped over and over with no clear reason why. That was proven correct after 3 or 4 episodes of her getting nothing from Irie but still describing him as a 'gentle person' for doing the bare minimum (holding the door of the subway for her. Noting that was the second time, since the first time he let's the door close stating he hates distracted girls).
The series gets progressively worse so don't expect for a redeming ending or character growth. As adults Kotoko keeps having zero self respect and Irie keeps treating her with indifference or rudeness at…
