Kaiju No. 8

Kaiju No. 8

Introduction

After the destruction of their hometown, childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro make a pact to become officers in the Defense Force—a militarized organization tasked with protecting Japan from colossal monsters known as "kaijuu." Decades later, the 32-year-old Kafka has all but given up on his dreams of heroism. Instead, he cleans up the remains of the slaughtered kaijuu after they are defeated by valiant soldiers—including Mina, who has successfully achieved their shared goal. Upon meeting his new coworker, Reno Ichikawa, Kafka faces a mirror of his past self: an ambitious young man whose one desire is to fight as a member of the Defense Force. Unfortunately, the two are soon involved in a freak encounter with a rogue kaijuu. Though Kafka demonstrates his innate heroic nature and rescues Reno from certain doom, he is left gravely injured. While both men recover in a hospital, Kafka is seemingly attacked by another one of the beasts. As a result, he gains the ability to transform into a humanoid kaijuu with the strength and powers of the massive monsters menacing Japan. Dubbed "Kaijuu No. 8" by the military, Kafka resolves to use his newfound gifts for the greater good. Tied together by mutual respect, Kafka and Reno set out to join warriors like Mina at the forefront of the Defense Force. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

[ Hood Review ] Kaiju No. 8 I was holding off on watching this anime for a long time because of all the hype surrounding it. I finally watched it, and honestly, I loved it. I absolutely see why this anime gets so much praise. First of all, if you’re into overpowered main characters, great fighting scenes, fast pacing, and action, especially if you like something like Solo Leveling, this is definitely an anime for you. The main character is really entertaining, and I like the balance between the comedy and serious moments. The action is definitely one of the biggest strengths of the anime, and the fights had me locked in. The character development is still pretty early. There are only two seasons at the time I’m writing this review, but so far, it’s pretty good. Everybody is kinda alre…

So damn peak loved everything about this season honestly - hype and aura moments galore - sometimes it’s good to have an anime that’s not too plot heavy that you can just sit back and have goosebumps everytime - each time kaiju no 8 shows up i get insanely hype - the action the music and OSTs everything was peak shonen - started off with some annoying characters but as time went on they started to develop and started to love division 3 - the mixture of humour and seriousness I personally really enjoyed and it reminded me a lot of one punch man - it’s refreshing for once having a shonen MC that is on the older side and a character that tries to hang with the younger generation of characters - overall an incredible start to this anime

As much as I enjoyed Kaiju No.8, I can't help feeling like its potential was kind of squandered. We're presented with such an interesting premise... A world where kaiju attacks are just another semi-routine natural disaster. Where we've got a Defense Force to stop the attacks and kaiju disposal companies to clean up after them. Where we routinely recycle and repurpose kaiju remains into weapons and technology. And we're presented with Kafka Hibino - a 32-year-old man that didn't manage to live up to his dream, but is still absolutely crushing-it as a cleanup worker. Shonen with an adult protagonist working a 9-5 job? I was immediately hooked. The workplace camaraderie was delightful. Kafka's humble excellence in a mundane job was refreshing. He wasn't saving the world, just making it a b…

Bang average story, that runs tropes to the ground, we have caricature of an adult as a main character who has the mannerisms and maturity of a preteen. The show has it's moments but they are so few and far between it's like finding a haystack in a pile of needles, you might find it, but it's going to hurt getting all the way there. I have paused and let out a sigh while watching this stuff so many times it's ridiculous. I am all more men who show emotions but holy cornball the main character was hard to watch. Will not watch the second season as the entire thing seems to be a bit of a waste of time to watch for me. That being said, props to the animators for the great animation. The sound design is notable as well especially in the scenes wherein kafka turns. Sadly, the characters and…

Introduction Kaiju No. 8 is an anime series which quickly became fascinating for me due to its distinctive idea and rapid pace. Right from the initial episodes, the show offers viewers a combination of action, intrigue, and emotions that are captivating. What I liked most is that there was a very good balance between fights with kaijus and inner struggles of the main character. The whole plot was inspiring and fascinating as it discussed such themes as chasing one's dream, sense of duty, responsibility and not giving up in any case. It should be mentioned that all battles were made extremely smoothly and impressive. Besides, there were lots of interesting moments that were accompanied by appropriate sounds and music. Characters were another great feature of this manga as they all looked…

I enjoyed the hell out of this anime. It has style, it has cool fights, the mc is cool. What else is there to need? I will say this show isn’t very deep. Maybe that might bother some people. I personally ate this up. It’s like showing up at the pizza joint and getting a pepperoni pizza with a twist of jalapeño. Like sure the pizza isn’t crazy with a house blend sauce or super insane topping but.. I mean it’s good what’s the matter. I watch stuff for fun not some philosophical stimulus to my frontal lobe. Feels like people are overly critical if the show isn’t pretentious as hell

I am not some insane Kaiju fan but knowing the gist of it, I figure this anime is entertaining enough even as a shounen for the adult demographics. As someone who enjoys actino in anime, I was able to bingewatch this first season in about 2 days but you could probably do it in one. I am not some insane critic, but I figure the anime has good pacing, nothing felt rushed (as someone who hasn't read the manga). Nothing felt too slow either, I didn't have any urge to skip any parts. No complaints about the animation and I fw the colours, though didn't enjoy that much when the screen just dimmed lots. I understand that its a shounen but in my perspective some parts could be corny, mainly the cliches but the gags aren't too annoying. What I do have a huge critique of is the action music they…

This show was recommended to me by a multitude of people due to the age and unique position of the main character. Considering that he is 32 years old, this isn't very typical of your standard shonen, which usually has a fixation of focusing on teens with a happy-go-lucky attitude that start out weak, however end up as the strongest. This isn't exactly a negative for the standard viewer, but I am typically one that is adverse to these tropes as I have unfortunately been watching anime for quite a while, and as such, these story beats stick out like a sore thumb to me, and are extremely tiring. Unfortunately, I was thoroughly disappointed with what I saw. Beyond the first 2-4 episodes, the standard cliches of a shonen slowly began to creep its way into the show, and before long, I found it…

Kaiju no. 8 Has A Chainsaw! Kaiju No. 8 Is a show about why the real Heroes, are one cleaning up after a monster attacks, and why 32 year old should totally go in the military. The theme is executes really well, always trying to go beyond your limits, always see what can be done even if you're a man who's 32, try anyway. and the characters work well in they push each other, they talk to each other, they feel like teammates and rivals. The story is on paper not that interesting, but it's executed so well, and with no filler and fast pacing, that becomes in trappening. the main character is so likeable and you want him to succeed. I can say that for all of the characters, Ever one of them with personal issues and limits they have to overcome. I respect the show, so much for not having an…

One of the things that frustrates me the most about Kaiju No. 8 is how it handles the intelligence of its supporting characters, especially when compared to World Trigger (cause they told me if i like world trigger i would like this one) In World Trigger, Osamu stands out because of his creativity and his ability to read the enemy, but that does not mean the rest of the cast is stupid: everyone analyzes, everyone plans, and everyone understands strategy; Osamu shines because he compensates for his weaknesses with ingenuity, not because the world bends around him. In Kaiju No. 8, the opposite happens: it feels like the protagonist is the only one who truly understands the kaiju, while the rest—supposedly trained soldiers—behave as if they have no idea what they are fighting. This becomes ev…

Yeah, Kaiju No. 8 gets an 8 from me. It’s an amazing, no filler, full action kind of show, but not just mindless fighting. Even the quieter moments keep the story moving and build real tension. The main character’s written really well, grounded but driven, and the team has this warm, homely vibe that makes you root for them instantly. The animation is also great. It has that Production I.G trademark vibe, i dont even know what that means. The world feels alive, the pacing’s tight, and it never drags. Honestly, I can’t wait for more. Simple as that what more i can say - solid action, great heart, and just a fun watch overall. defo recommended bratha!

This is a review of Season 2: First, unfortunately, I didn't write a review of Season 1, which I watched on December 25, 2025. It was an excellent start, but Season 2 was packed with amazing content. I loved the concept and the Kaiju battles, and the theme songs for both seasons were excellent, courtesy of OneRepublic. We can't forget the characters: Hoshino, who resembles Levi from Attack on Titan, Kikuro, Ichikawa, and others. The protagonist, in particular, was a big hit with Hibino Kafka; I loved his character. He's another mature protagonist I've seen after years of their era ending. In the end, I rate Season 1 8/10, and Season 2 as shown below. Before I go, I want to say I'm glad I decided to watch Kaiju 8; it's truly fantastic. A season and the beginning of an epic battle—absolutely…

I went in blind to watch this anime but it was great. At first I was hesitant about the artstyle but it slowly grew on me. The story is exciting from the start as the stakes are high, especially for the main character who is just a pretty weak human living in a world that is constantly attacked by monsters and gigantic kaijus. It was surprising when hero got a "power up" that has a bad.weird side-effect. I recommend this anime to people who are looking for big bombastic fights, but also a hero that isn't overpowered - too many overpowered heroes trope these days.

Well, this one's a doozy to critique if i am being honest. A very simplified explanation would be that it's got some good fights and it's a pretty spectacle, but not much else. Now towards the details: The biggest and most obvious issue out of the way first:the characters. All of them are more or less interchangeable. They are shallow and almost all of them mirror one another's personality and goals. They are all ... safe and predictable. Not intresting in the least. They don't leave much of an impresion. The MC..... is a walking Deus Ex Machina at this point, and not anything else. A below average dude and a crybaby. His persistence feels far more like simple stubborness and way less like actual perseverence. He just slams his head into any problems. I was honestly expecting casualties ju…

An anime about an old guy finally getting another chance after he gave up at reaching his long life dreams that he always wanted to do: enroll in the Defense Force and fight monsters aka kaijus. Straight to the point, this anime is full of hype moments, cool fights and it doesn't disappoint. The animation is really good, and the bits and pieces of the story it presents give quite a bit of importance to the fights. The presentation also is very well done. The music? Very fire. I've been listening to the songs used in this anime for some time now, and man, they're really well done, especially when you take into account the fact that they are in English, because tbh I haven't really had good experiences with English songs in anime... The story I would say isn't that much as it is mainly fo…

REVIEW: The series is set in a world threatened by giant monsters, with Kafka Hibino as the main character. He works in the cleanup sector after the attacks but dreams of joining the Defense Force, even after years of failing the admission test. However, everything changes when Kafka is infected by a parasite that grants him the ability to transform into a kaiju, allowing him to finally enter the Defense Force. The plot starts off very interesting, even though the premise of a “protagonist who receives an evil power” is already well-known. What makes it captivating is the world itself, which hasn’t been explored much in other works with a similar theme. The animation is very good and well-polished, standing out for its fluid action sequences. Even in moments where action isn’t the focus,…

"One morning, waking from troubled dreams, Gregor Samsa found himself transformed in his bed into a monstrous insect." The opening line of Franz Kafka's novel "The Metamorphosis" clearly served as inspiration for manga artist Naoya Matsumoto to create his most successful story to date: Kaiju No. 8. But instead of chronicling the travails of a traveling salesman in his new body, Matsumoto-sensei adds to his story those flavors that only the Japanese know how to masterfully balance. And, of course, the idea of humans battling giant monsters emerging from underground seemed to fit perfectly with this initial concept developed by the bohemian writer. In mid-2021, when I discovered this story, I immediately found myself imagining how its clean lines, fast-paced narrative, and detailed charac…

The rating system in artistic media is meant to order the quality and enjoyability of a piece, so we are obliged to compare pieces of art between each other, as shows with similar rating should be comparable in quality and content. Now, I'll keep it a buck and make the rest of this review quick: this is just My Hero Academia retold with even more pathetic characters. I'm not praising nor trashing MHA, it's just that somehow this show is making a cliché of the lame ass talentless, powerless character the peak of the story after being blessed with the ultimate power bestowed upon them, which is also a curse as using it has consequences for the main character, but the MC still uses it because they have an inherently heroic personality, but they are not alone as they are also surrounded by o…

Kaiju No. 8 chronicles a thrilling action-fantasy series that blends high-stakes monster battles with personal ambition and emotional growth. The story follows Kafka Hibino, a middle-aged man stuck in menial cleanup work for the Japan Defense Force while dreaming of joining their ranks. After an unexpected encounter with a kaiju, Kafka gains the ability to transform into one himself, a duality that propels him into a complex struggle between human duty and monstrous power. The narrative charts his journey to balance heroism, secrecy, and personal desires whilst confronting increasingly dangerous kaiju threats alongside his friends and fellow defenders. The anime excels in dynamic action and tension. Kaiju battles are portrayed with kinetic animation, detailed creature designs, and dramatic…

The show has excellent animation. The music is fine but not memorable. Except the opening, that is memorable. The characters are not unique enough. None of their personalities are memorable except for Kikoru Shinomiya, slightly because she is the somewhat mean one. The character designs are simplified like Boruto hair, no one looks pretty and the battle suits are kind of plain looking. The characters are mainly just copies of each other and their motivation is "I want to save lives and get stronger". At least thats what they chose to show in 12 episodes. The outcomes of the fights are predictable and the villains kind of come out of nowhere. I like the humor, but I wish there was more of it. The show does show instead of tell though, that is nice. I like that power is always demo…
