Very, very fun comedy, it's not a must-watch by any means (The disastrous life of Saiki K is) but this anime is just relaxing and fun and it doesn't require you to think a lot about it and that's fine by me.
The premise is quite interesting, It's not totally original as you know other animes like Kannagi or a certain one that was very popular in the mid 2000s share a similar one but the execution is middle of the road, I expected a little bit more to do with the central concept but it's ok anyway.
Watch if you want something to turn your brain off and enjoy, any other way I'd skip this.

Kannagi leaves a really strong first impression. A decently large cast with good chemistry, snappy dialogue and a simply but compelling plot that advances to some degree with every episode. This could have been a decently above average slice of life comedy show. However around the halfway point either from a lack of material or a simple choice to regress into what works, the show starts to spin it’s wheels and a lot of the charm that it displayed so effortlessly at the start is washed away.
The cast is pretty good all things considered. They find a good balance between eccentricity and groundedness which leads into a very natural feeling comedic flow. Although there isn’t actually much to comment on with any character specifically — Jin is normal and a bit hotheaded, Nagi is childish a…

I just finished Kannagi in 2024 and this harem comedy, while obviously a bit dated today has so much charm and timeless humor. The comedy in this show is top notch and the characters are surprisingly well developed and varied for an anime in this genre. The voice acting and writing are subtle yet so good, there were just so many good lines in this show. My personal favorite, “It’s a Sony”. The opening song and animation just grab your heart with moe and make you feel good. There is fan service as expected but it’s tasteful compared to most ecchi, Kannagi gives the impression of a refined yet still a bit sexy and voyeuristic version of an ecchi show.
The story doesn’t really go anywhere and poor communication or over the top reactions make up the majority of the conflicts in the show. I’l…

Kannagi is one of the anime that I often re-watch when new anime stock runs out.
In my opinion, the only thing I like about this anime is Nagi, nothing else, such as the storyline, characters and story background.
The weakness of this anime is the uncertain storyline, for the opening of the story I quite liked it, it tells about life at school, comedy, and so on.
But not in the future, this anime has no clear direction and purpose, what does this anime actually want to convey?
Suddenly quarreling for trivial reasons, or running away from home for other trivial reasons.
But even so, I still quite like this anime, I slightly recommend this anime to watch if you enjoy characters like Nagi, But don't get your hopes up about the storyline, because I don't really like it myself, as I mentione…

tl;dr: An anime that has an amusing cast and great humor but has bad pacing for the more serious portions.
Kannagi is an anime that starts off with the protagonist, Jin, watching a girl named Nagi seemingly being born from a wooden sculpture he made. She says that she’s the goddess of that tree, and with the tree being cut down she has to use her goddess powers to eliminate impurities, which take the form of bugs made of darkness that will begin invading and harming the town. And furthermore they quickly discover that, Jin unlike other humans for some reason has the ability to see and touch them without any harm to himself. Thus as he lives alone she begins living with him and they work together to destroy these impurities. During this phase the actual hunting of impurities isn’t all that…

Kannagi, "A 60 FPS Story of A Dude Who Lives With A Goddess"
Exactly just like what I said above, Kannagi is all about a dude who lives with a goddess as he spends his days with the goddess along with his friends and slowly build a harem. In 60 fps.
The animation of Kannagi felt somewhat similar to Chika's dance ( from Love is War ) in terms of smoothness. Like, shit man. Them moves bein' smooth for 13 episodes straight dayum. Honestly it's both creepy and good at the same time.
That's about it. I'm not kidding by the way. This is it. There's nothing else to write. There's no Opening song, Ending song. The story's 100% Slice of Life. Yeah. That's it.
Recommended to those who really enjoy Slice of Life especially the supernatural'ish ones. As said above, Kannagi is all about a dude…

Kannagi is a very deceptive show. It starts out making you think it's going to have a big focus on the plot but quickly turns into a slice of life comedy with some strange harem vibes.
(Some spoilers)
The premise is fairly straightforward. High schooler Jin makes a wood sculpture that turns into Nagi, a goddess in the flesh. She moves in with him and they set out to figure out her purpose in this world.
Once the basic premise is laid out, this anime takes a U-turn and instead focuses more on the character interactions and comedic situations. Don't get me wrong, I like well written comedy and this anime has some well written comedy.
What I dislike is that this anime shifts gear so often, it's like the writers didn't know what they wanted to go for. Every episode has a different directi…

Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens - This was the very first anime series that I had watched, and to this day, I consider this to be my second favourite anime of all time. Call me crazy, but that's just the truth! It really is just that good!
Along with Tsuritama and Galilei Donna, this anime I would say falls into the category of the hidden works of A-1 Pictures. The first time I had watched Kannagi was back in early 2012, and I remember this was all the rage at the time. (Not just because of the Bean Farmer and "It's a Sony!" memes, but the series itself became a big major hit)
Unfortunately, as time has gone on, Kannagi is still popular, but gradually fading into obscurity more and more. This is one of the earliest works from A-1 Pictures (being from 2008), and this anime was made back in…

So this is what the hippies meant with „trees are our friends”.
Story:
I don’t really know where to begin. Kannagi is a very weirdly written show, it jumps from one genre to the next, but I fail to see the reason why. It’s almost as if the author didn’t know what she wanted herself either. It starts out with a supernatural meeting, but soon it goes into a fish out of water-comedy territory, which is fine so far. Then we see a slight drift into harem comedy, which is not what I was hoping for, but still somewhat justifiable. And suddenly, near the end of its run, we are in the middle of an existentialistic drama. Wow, how did that happen? I understand what they were trying to do here (at least I think I do), but the transitions are so frequent and sudden, that it’s hard for me to grab hold…

Kannagi is a great mix of different genres that often have difficulty working together, though whether they actually mix well may be a matter of opinion. The supernatural topics are very matter of fact, in that it's not overblown or annoying, but it is a story of a spiritual and supernatural nature in a casual and lighthearted way. It is an odd mix of Serious and Comedy, but personally I think that's the best part. At different points it had me screeching and dying from laughing so hard, and it had me bawling in other spots. The best part is that it's actually pretty spread out, they don't try to pack feels and laughs together too much, the feelings generally have different arcs and different episodes. As a Comedy it's fantastic in places, as a drama it's not very consistent but it sure go…

Yamamoto yutaka, who was the director of Kannagi, recently said this on his official line blog.
"Now Japan will not need an idol."
Wait, hold on second. What does he mean by that? No, I wonder if there was a lot of idol animation in the past as it is now. There are love live, sunshine, Aimas, Cindemas, WUG, and 22/7, which is Yasushi Akimoto's new plan just as soon as we think about it. So many idol animations are coming out, what are you talking about?
Yamakan, no matter how you think, the public needs an idol. You may have to ask.
But there is context to the word. The public may need an idol that mediates "animation", but it does not seem to require idol with real blood and flesh. It is true that the idol that has been accepted by the public literally as an "idol" can go up to the 80s…

Kannagi is a little deceptive kind of series: it may look like fantasy at first, yet soon it ends up a harem/moe comedy with insignificant fantasy elements, and well, it isn't nearly as good as some people make it out to be.
STORY & CHARACTERS
First, the major part of the "plot" is taken up by endless dialogues about nothing at the pace of a crippled snail. Perhaps, fans of K-On! and similar series may enjoy that, but I personally consider it to be nothing more than a boring waste of time.
Second, the "story" is essentially a generic harem with your cookie-cutter boy-protagonist who allows a girl to live at his place, and how that girl and two other girls compete for his attention. That's the base, and the authors apparently try to add some other aspects to make the anime more entertainin…

Sometimes, the best series hide itself for people to see its true beauty. This is one of those series. It had its ups and downs, it wasn't perfect, but it was able to present its story naturally.
If you judge this series from its art style, then you're missing out on so much. The plot of this series doesn't compare to it. Sure, the animation is too simple and not as exaggerated as I hoped, but the execution of the scenes was more important to me than the display of tantalizing effects. I can still remember the theme track used. It was simple, but it captured the atmosphere of the setting: nice and quiet.
Yes, it might be boring at first glance. But give it a chance and you'll enjoy it just as I did. I highly recommend this for those looking for underrated series. For sure, You'll love t…

A Story about a guy who made a statue. he was about to brought it to his school, but suddenly the statue disappeared. the statued was outside of his house and connected to the ground (dirt) few seconds later the statue broke into peices and, guess what ? a young girl appeared from inside of the statue.
IMO, that was an interesting starting point from this anime especially for SoL anime. tbh, i have never seen something like that before. and the story went with many SoL, Comedy scene AS the character development, especially with the MC kept going until the end of the episode with it. they put SoL scene but didn't forget about the actual problem. another reason why i like it.
The animation was great imo. y'know KyoAni ? then that was the kind of animation from this anime. even i thought…

Kannagi is quite the show for sure. It may be viewed at first glance as another comedic high school harem anime, but in truth it really is a bit more than that. This show definitely has its fair share of cliché episodes with tons of memorable and humorous moments, as well as also driving home an acceptable amount of thought towards gods, self awareness, discovering oneself, etc.
Before I cover the my big complaints to the show, I'll start off with the small stuff
Art (10) - It's a beautiful show. Especially for what... Being released in the 2000's? It surprised me actually. Everyone looks very fluffy and dare I say, lush. Smooth smooth smooth Animation as well!
Sound (7) - I've never been too picky on this section in particular. Probably since I'm an English speaker and since I'm not fr…

Take your typical spineless male protagonist, throw at him a beautiful, immature and almighty goddess and the obligatory annoying childhood friend that has a crush on said male. Add then the evil twin sister of the afore-mentioned almighty goddess that dresses as a nun (because apparently Japanese people find that sexy), surround all of them with some potentially interesting, yet never quite exploited obscure secondary characters and wrap everything up in a fairly pleasant animation, with a commercial theme song. What do we get? Kannagi –a mediocre show that's not particularly bad, yet never gets close to being good either.
Kannagi starts off of an interesting premise –Mikuriya Jin, a high school student, carves a sculpture from a holy tree which later turns into the goddess of the area,…

Usually, when you carve a wooden sculpture you don’t expect it to turn into a person, right? Well, unfortunately for Jin, that’s not the case. Kannagi is an anime that revolves around the concept of land gods that live inside trees. It seems that the wood that Jin used is actually the trunk of a sacred tree and summons the god Nagi. What a coincidence! Set on these premises, Kannagi starts of wonderfully but for some reason, ends up horribly. Why? Let’s see…
First of all, it’s the story. After that coincidence of summoning Nagi, what was supposed to happen next is that they will be exterminating impurities disguised as bugs. Unfortunately, that never happened. What happened is that Kannagi drifted away from its concept of going for a mahou shoujo type anime without the frilly clothes and…

Let me state upfront that there are already several outstanding reviews of this show by other members. I would encourage anyone interested in Kannagi to read them as well.
I however have a different opinion regarding the middle episodes, which have been disparaged by several reviewers, because they seem to wander off topic. I like the ‘slice of life’ genre and it is that aspect of this series which I find so engaging. Rather than write about the entire season, I want to focus on one episode in particular [Specifically episode 7].
Some quick background first. In this show Jin carves a figure of goddess for a high school art project. Unknowingly, the wood Jin used was from a scared tree and the goddess [Nagi] takes on human form. Because the sacred tree had been cut down the goddess has n…

Compared to other "slice of life" anime i've seen, I really can't give it more than a 6.
Now don't get me wrong, a six diesn't mean you can't enjoy the show, it just means it's not amazingly good in every aspect. So, let's start with the good stuff this show has to offer.
The Good
Art / Animation
Kannagi is extremely dynamic, everything moves. The hair, the leaves, the clothes, everything. All that movement give Kannagi a great sinergy and realism. Thanks to that, everything looks pretty natural.
The colouring in this show is superb. When the mood is happy, everything looks bright and alive, colors seem to jump out of the screen. When the mood is sad, everything looks grey, heavy, dark, as if someone had tried to wash away all the colors in the world. It helps to converge the feelings o…
