The good and incomplete story of the two Kekkai warriors who have to protect Karasumori (a high school building). It is an ancestral duty for Yoshimori and Tokine, even though their family are rivals to the core. These two as a team alongside their Ayakashi protectors (Madarao and Hakubi) have to fight demons that try to invade the school for their own reasons.
The smart part about this anime is the utility of their power system. For defeating Ayakashi, there's the use of Kekkai techniques. These are cube-like barriers that are used to capture any demon. Within this show, there's a heavy focus on strategy to ensure that the protectors of Karasumori can do their job. Overtime, there are more nuances into the world of using Kekkai. This is one of the strengths of the show.
There are two h…

A bit dissapointed with the show. Not because i didnt like it. I did. But rather because theres potential to be so much more. Lets just get the negative out of the way.
Op. Its good. But same for 52 episodes? No OP is good enough for that. Should have had 1-2 more.
Battles are always the same. I mean the location is the same throughout the show. It does get a bit repetetive.
So many episodic episodes where it feels not much happens. The story is interesting and has lots of potential. But it feels underdeveloped and you dont get to know much about the organizations or character backgrounds.
On the plus side
Original BGM is pretty good.
Story is interesting and has lots of potential. But as i said its wasted. I know its not a full adaptation. But what is there is interesting enough…

This is one of the best anime in my opinion, it has its own storyline, characters and background.
The first episode is very impressive, with an ending that will make you shed a few tears, plus the perfect soundtrack and closing song.
The storyline is not monotonous, doesn't focus too much on the main story, and is sometimes filled with side stories from other characters, this is very well done, so that the audience will not feel disappointed because they are having fun watching the main story, but it is suddenly replaced by another story line just like that.
Funny comedy, this is not the usual comedy that often appears in other anime, I think this is one of the plus points for this anime, Even though it doesn't really make you laugh, at least it can relieve boredom when watching it.

The only major flaw of this anime is its conclusion which could have been, well, more conclusive. This is a great shounen that does not drag aimlessly on and on, like so many of this genre do. It is less one-dimensional than it could appear at first sight and has so much to offer besides basic action. Great sound as well, quite atmospheric. I could recommend this to anyone who does not like their action shows to be too serious. It may not have the greatest depth of the plot, but it has zero pretentiousness, it is very straightforward entertainment.
It is fun, unique, a little bit mysterious, fantastic watch overall.

Overall Impression: Kekkaishi is a battle shounen series that follows Yoshimori, a teenage boy that can create magical barriers, and his childhood friend/rival Tokine as they protect the Karasumori site, a powerful magnet for ayakashi, which is sealed beneath their school. While relatively thoughtfully executed, this is a bland and uninspired action series at its base level, which makes it hard to recommend if you've seen this kind of show already, even though it's not terrible in isolation.
+ Positives: It's got some pretty cool monster designs. Director Kenji Kodama uses his experience from the eternally-running Case Closed series to pace this 52 episode series out nicely and not have major dips in animation quality or extensive recaps to cope with the demanding schedule. The second hal…

Overview:
"Kekkaishi" is an anime that manages to be above average in almost every aspect, yet also falls short at excelling at anything. It's not particularly original nor overly cliched, the sound is good but not fantastic, some characters are well-fleshed out while many others are underdeveloped, and the series starts off slow but picks up overtime. All in all, it is definitely a series I enjoyed watching, but if I were to make a list of what anime to watch again, this would not be very high on the list.
Story (7.5/10):
The series revolves around two teenagers, Yoshimori Sumimura and Tokine Yukimura, who, unknown to anyone but their families, are two exorcist-like warriors known as Kekkashi, a sacred duty that has been passed down in their families for many generations. Every night, th…

This is a very polarizing show: reviewers either love it or hate it. For the most part, at least; there are a few who don't have strong feelings either way. I am one of those people.
For the most part, I found it enjoyable. There were a few moments that were really quite funny--there was even a subtle Matrix reference! The story was interesting enough, and I think the characterizations really suited the age of the characters. I found even the villains likeable. The music was nice, too. I liked how they brought back the Koshi Inaba closing theme when it was appropriate.
The biggest turn off for me was the inconsistency of the art. On one hand, the style is different, and at times I thought, "How refreshing!". There were one or two scenes where it seems they really pushed their budget to…

Okay guys, before beginning the review I have to tell that this is my first review, not the first anime review on MAL but the first review ever and this is the first time I am going to write anything on the internet and I am a south asian and English is not my native language. So, I apologize for any grammatical errors. And yeah, this review will be very lengthy.
Fall 2006, studio sunrise created an amazing anime. The anime was so great that it received admiration from every anime fan in this world. Every one enjoyed it, loved it and admired it. It broke every record created by shows like cowboy bebop, fullmetal alchemist, Naruto and Bleach. Even most of the non- anime fan enjoyed it. It was the best mecha anime ever, yes I am talking about code geass. That anime became instant success b…

This anime is one of my favorites I re watch it every year. The romance between the main characters is also interesting because it doesn't emphasis it too much but it is still there. I love this anime since it reminds me of a typical school setting and what happens to regular people with special powers. I wanted the anime to continue but after reading the manga I don't want it to end the way the manga does. I really wanted more filler episodes since they were more peaceful and I also wanted to see what happened in the future for both the main characters. I also really liked the powers of the man characters because it wasn't like your usual powers that you see with other main characters form other series. I would recommend this anime to anyone who like to watch a bit of romance and tons of…

This IS a shonen anime. There is a dumb-ass protagonist that fights staight on and has loads of reishi or whatever the magical power is appliable. There is a weaker and making up with smarts lass that the protagonist has got a crush on. And a bunch of bad guy youkais that in the end turn out to be just very lonely guys, and that dissolve into nothingness after getting a bearhug from the good guys.
So, in the sense of story and cast, it's so shounen i'm feeling 14 again when watching this.
But then again, it is executed well, and while it suffers from "nothing ever gets resolved, team rocket only dissapears in the sky to come back again, and the protagonist never gets the girl" syndrome, it certainly wasn't unpleasant to watch.

The way that I discover animes is a very odd one. It mostly consists of me looking through the Wikipedia page of a dub actor I like and seeing what I can find. I was looking through Vic Mignogna's Wikipedia page when I found Kekkaishi.
I find it strange that until then, I had never heard of Kekkaishi. It was a 35 volume manga and a 52 episode anime, with bigshot voice actors Laura Bailey and Vic Mignogna, in a rare case of Mignogna playing the lead and not a supporting role (besides Edward Elric). It seems stranger that I had not heard of this show at all after I finished watching the whole thing. This show is actually really good.
The characters are what make this show so good. The interactions are hilarious, especially between the two leads, Yoshimori and Tokine. Also there is Madarao,…

Let me start off by saying that Kekkaishi is NOT your average mainstream anime, because let me tell you, it ISN'T. It starts off making you think it's all "we've got one aspiring, goofy young teen who wants to be noticed, one smart-perfect round about girl, and one best friend who is half-human half-other" but then it takes you onto a whole other plane.
Kekkaishi has your drama, your comic relief scenes, and your thought provoking scenarios all in one AND the best part is that it isn't long and overly drawn out like Naruto, Bleach, or InuYasha.
Plot (9/10):
As mentioned earlier, it's got your basic goofy main character who has a crush on his neighbor and later on meets his best friend who happens to be half-Ayakashi ("ghost"/"demon"). HOWEVER, Kekaishi also successfully merges in some we…

This show was atrocious.
Lackluster characters mixed with nonexistant development, uninteresting animation and overall just a stupid plot makes this completely not worth watching.
Do avoid.

As for the Anime the story doesn't go as far as the Manga. (The Manga is approx. 345 chpt. I read it twice ♥) But the story is nothing too new nor too cliche, its your typical normal characters that have an alternate fate to them. Okay as much as I LOVE this Anime, (It is my favorite of all time!) The OP and music wasn't something to be favored for as to why I can't give it a perfect score of 10/10, but a 9/10. It's similar to a lot of Shounen series in that the Protagonist is stubborn, hot-headed, reckless, but has good morals c: The main character Yoshimori reminds me a lot of Rin from Blue Exorcist because of how reckless the two can, but how kind of hearts they have. I will admit it's not for all people some say its boring others say that it lacks character etc. and to an extent that's…

I've been a fan of shounen animes ever since I was a kid. Shounen, being an action anime directed to kids and adolescents are really popular. So obviously, many shounen animes were made, but few succeeded, I don't know if kekkaishi is one of them, but I tell you, kekkaishi is one of the better ones I've watched.
Story : 8
As the for the story, 500 years ago there was a land called Karasumori which holds mysterious powers, it increases an ayakashi's(monster) power, a monk who is a kekkai(barrier) master was tasked to protect it, but when the kekkai master fell ill and too old for his job, he then tasked two households to protect Karasumori, the Sumimura and the Yukimura household. Kekkaishi has to be one of the greatest anime's I have ever seen in my life. It's full of so much emotion and joy.
The story line is interesting and gripping once it comes in and the characters have all been deveoped so well that you get a strong atachment to them.
It's a completely unique and creative anime that deserves so much more recognition than it currently has.
Tanabe has created a wonderful masterpiece that deserves to be watched by everyone. It's such an enjoyable anime with one of the greatest OST's I've heard.
DEFINITE WATCH!

i really enjoyed watching this anime. in the beginning there wasn't a real story so it made it weird to watch, you had just these two teens who killed monsters. further the story really developed into something great. the art was a real relief, i thought the nose was weird on the poster, but it didn't really matter because the ayakashi were beautiful. i liked the sound, sometimes it was thrilling on other times it was sad, the timing was perfect. the only minus were the endings, they could've been better. but that yoshimori, god he was annoying with his whining. the rest of the cast was great but the main character was a in the beginning it wasn't that great but it was enjoyable in the end, but there were a few questions that were unanswered.

Kekkaishi is one of the worst animes I have ever seen. After completing this anime I felt nothing but betrayal. I know that sounds crazy but bear with me.
I could start off by saying that the beggining was boring and bland, but I hardly remember the earlier episodes because of "blandness". You probrobly wont remember them either. Even bleach's first 10 episodes are more memorable.
The anime does pick itself up really fast once the main plot is.introduced though. Kekkaishi's main strength was its battles. Defeating the bigger and stronger enemies was never done by power ups coming out of nowhere or training in an empty space like every other shounen. Instead battles are won by refining techniques, stradegy, and teamwork with a lttle bit of willpower thrown in there. It was actually a bre…

The term Kekkaishi means barrier master. It is an awesome love story of a 14 yrs old boy Yoshimori and 16 yrs old girl Tokine. They work together at night protecting their land Karasumori from Ayakashi(s) which give them powers. As Tokine is elder than Yoshimori, she is better than him in their techniques. Their family also competes with each other. Tokine always manages to protect or save Yoshimori whenever he gets in trouble. That’s why to repay it, he works very hard and also tries to impress her making cakes for Tokine. In the beginning, the whole story comes with this romance. But soon a boy called Gen joins forces with them as a new group of Ayakashi(s) called Kokuboro comes to take on Karasumori. The story now gets a little twisted when one of the Ayakashi, Kaguro kills Gen. To take…

I think that it would have been better to seal the series in a kekkai then metsu and tenketsu it so that people wouldn't waste their time on it. The most enjoyment I had from the series is listening to the voice actor who played Yoshimori, and that's because it was the same voice actor who played Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. The story is bad plain and simple. The whole concept of teenage kekkaishi having to be awake day and night to go to school and protect the city was absurd. The plot of finding out and defeating the Kokuburo took a little while to get into, they waste precious episodes on dull premises, and the series ends with loose ties that do not offer any sense of fulfillment. The music is fine, on a good note was the opening music being one I enjoy listening to and bothe…
