Kokkoku

Introduction

After presumably failing 19 job interviews in one day, Juri Yukawa's dreams of moving out of her parents' home are utterly dashed. Stuck living with her working mother Nobuko, NEET brother Tsubasa, laid-off father Takafumi, and single-parent sister Sanae, the only hope for this family to raise a decent adult is her little nephew Makoto. However, this struggling family's life takes a turn for the worse when Makoto and Tsubasa are violently kidnapped by a mysterious organization and held for ransom. With only 30 minutes to deliver five million yen to the criminals, Juri's grandfather reveals a dangerously powerful secret to her and Takafumi. By offering blood to her grandfather's mystical stone, the three enter the world of "Stasis," a version of their world where time stops for everyone but the users. Having arrived at their destination, their rescue efforts go awry when they are assailed by a surprising group of people who are somehow able to move around within Stasis. While all hope seems lost, a monstrous giant known as the Herald appears amidst the chaos, its intent and motivations as cryptic as the very nature of this timeless world. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This anime is an unnerving masterpiece more people should watch. The idea of a world frozen it time, the quiet and the stillness of this anime feels uncanny. This is the quintessential definition of a liminal space anime. It isn't scary in the traditional sense of a horror anime, but the ambiance, and the idea of a world with no sound, and no movement is frightening to me. Watching this at night by yourself can be a disorienting experience. The characters are genuinely well written, the villain was unique, and I enjoyed my time with it. The characters feel like real people, for the most part, some are more likeable than others. But all the characters that are unlikeable are unlikeable on purpose. Though I don't think the pacing for this anime is for everyone, and this anime can be somewhat…

So I started watching this purely because of the opening, so if that motivated you as well, welcome. I would definitely say it surpasses the anime, but that shouldn't be too hard to believe, I think. Now, while this is a nice supernatural thing to watch and ponder, I do have many mixed, mostly negative, feelings about it. I will stick to stuff talked about in the MAL synopsis, so there are no plot spoilers ahead. My greatest gripe with the show is that, while the concepts used are interesting and all, they are used only up to maybe 70% capacity, with room to spare. There was enough space for more, if only the plot didn't stall at around the fifth episode. When they enter stasis in the first episode, the grandpa says "we have all the time in the world", which was I guess taken straight fro…

I'm really struck by the unpopularity of this title and the relatively low ratings. That is why first I will describe all the advantages, and at the end I will move on to the disadvantages and try to suggest what someone might not like here. 1. Visual Very nice drawing. I never thought I'd be so happy to see characters' noses. Certain vibes of the nineties and early 2000s immediately appeared. In general, in general, the faces of all the characters are carefully drawn, emotions and all sorts of details are clearly visible. The environment is also well drawn. I won’t say much about the animation, it’s normal, sometimes you’re even surprised that the characters move (for example, when the scale is large and the characters are standing in the distance, or when the interlocutor doesn’t freeze…

What a sad watch, not because of the story, but the amount of wasted potential. Yes, I decided to watch this one because of its stellar intro. A mesh of interesting visuals, amazing song, colors, and the idea that it'll be a bit experimental, weird, but ultimately great, or so I thought. It directly began by changing what I expected. A story about a moment, and only that moment. If you could stop time, what would you do? It's such a monumental power that the head of a family, with his good heart, hid it away, knowing there are those who can, and will, use it to mold their surroundings with malice. Of course, a moment in the story calls for a use. A ransom, simple enough, makes a lot of sense, but it doesn't stop there. That's just the beginning, and it had me hooked, even if it wasn't wh…

The premise of the anime itself is good, the way the story is built too, but I thought the villain was very poorly used, they used a lot of time to build and then throw everything away. What disappoints me the most are the last two episodes, it seems that the story is lost and they barely explain about the founder. Like I said before, the brute of the anime itself is great, but it falls short at the end.

I went into Kokkoku blind, and I was pleasantly surprised. The story, writing, characters, art and soundtrack are all done well. The premise and worldbuilding of Kokkoku are highly imaginative and executed fairly well. The plot struggles a bit towards the middle when Kokkoku seems to run out of interesting ideas to throw at viewers and resorts to dishing out backstories that didn't feel entirely necessary. The main villain was a bit of a cliche, and I think his character could have been more well-rounded. There is some CGI that I found to look out of place. Otherwise Kokkoku is a good short watch if you're looking for a magical realism thriller.

First of all, sorry for my spelling mistakes, this is not my native language. I have tried to make this review without spoilers. Opening: 10 Animation: 8 Plot: 8 End: 7 The story takes us to a family that has a kind of stone that allows them to stop time and "enter" Statis. In that world, everyone is immobile while those who have used the stone can move freely. Within Statis there are unwritten rules that you must comply with, otherwise you will end up being consumed by that world. I have to say that there is a bit of filler in the story that could have been summarized, but in itself, the anime is perfect to watch it on a break. The characters, some stupider than others, have their reasons for being in the story. The ending will leave you surprised, explaining everything and leaving you…

The story was quite interesting at first, but it was kinda hard to get by halfway through the story and especially at the end. A lot was left unexplained and the ending felt like the biggest case of deus ex machina I've ever seen. I liked the characters, most of them don't feel too flat, and the artstyle is "realistic" in the sense that these characters could be imagined realistically as people. Other than that, some frames felt a little bit off. Overall, all I can say is that it's an anime. And you can watch it, if you want. It's not the most boring thing in the world, but it feels disappointing, almost. A bonus point for the most fire intro song I've heard in a while.

After seeing Golden Kamuy, I wanted to look at more of Geno Studio’s repertoire and found myself staring at Kokkoku. So I added it to my list and began watching the extremely unique and fairly unknown anime I’d soon be hooked on. So, for starters, Kokkoku (Moment by Moment) is the first anime series made by the studio who rose from the ashes of beloved Manglobe: Geno Studio. You might recognize the name as that cool dude from One Punch Man, but that’s Genos and also unrelated. I was happy to see a cool new studio who had done some solid art for Golden Kamuy. The premise of the show is that a family is trapped in 6:59 PM because of a highly coveted stone capable of producing a time-stop curse, and a group called the Genuine Love Society wants sole control of this stone (the Genuine Love S…

Had a really good opening song. Visually, everything besides the specters looks pretty bland. The mystery around stasis, the specters in it, and its creators has a healthy amount of exposition, and the creepy nature of the specters remains compelling until the end. It's one of those animes that you remember every so often as being pretty good because of the general plot and how the events played out; the stuck in time trope is one with a lot of potential, but then you also remember the awkward direction and pacing of the story, so you decide it's best left in a corner of your mind where every other obscure thing you've watched resides.Still, really good opening song that made me keep coming back.

This review is specifically about the ending and contains spoilers. The final episode introduced an interesting idea of what happens to a person when completely isolated with nothing of substance or fulfilment is left for them in life (at least from my understanding). Starting out, Juri is vigilant (shot of her doing stretches and later exercising) and retains most of her mental stability by reminding her self of family. Eventually boredom and frustration kick in (likely from isolation/nothing to do). To break out she resorts to escapism through excessive drinking and consumption of entertainment, which eventually loses its charm. Next she has a breakdown followed by repeated attempts to suppress the reality of her situation ("no more depresressing thoughts"). Finally she hits a point…

A mixed bag show that ultimately earns a high recommendation from me based on it being so odd ball and different. It's very difficult to think of a comparison to this show. Its got a unique premise with interesting character dynamics and outlandish concepts. It goes full steam ahead into the crazy, combining a time travel-like story with supernatural elements, and doesn't slow down on its pacing. It's also very rare you have a bad ass female lead in a mature story line which also made this show a breath of fresh air. Characters enter and exit the show very unpredictably and adds to the chaos. The anime is nearly a shot for shot recreation of the manga, however the one thing the anime lacks is the zany art style used by the manga. A lot character expressions and actions look out of plac…

Here are my thoughts about Kokkoku. First off, lets talk about the good things. What I enjoyed about Kokkoku is the music, the characters, and the plot. The music definitely gets your mood going and makes you want to watch it, for me personally I couldn't skip the op at all (it's just that good). The characters feel pretty realistic, how they care for each other, how they would do anything just to reach their goals, and I really enjoyed that aspect. The plot is really interesting, unique and one of a kind, overall pretty good plot. Well, here is what kokkoku is missing, the pacing and the story in general. The pacing in the story feels off, the story was executed poorly, thus making the story not as enjoyable to watch as the other shows. It had the potential to be a really good anime, bu…

It gets me an Evangelion vibe, it has a surreal, dream-like quality, but it's less about fights and horny teenagers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The main premise is frozen time, and that alone is fairly unique and got my interest. The main antagonist is surprisingly well done, cerebral and morally grey. Sick Opening. Abuses cliffhangers. I noticed the tendency to include 1-2 "comic reliefs" per episode. Which is welcome but it felt almost like a quota, formulaic. Likeable characters It does feel like a manga-to-anime adaptation, because often there is no explanation. Or characters act in uncharacteristic ways and no explanation is given. Overall, 12 episodes doesn't take that long, and it's much more cerebral than your average Bleach 12 episode fillers.

At first glance, Kokkoku is an anime with a bombastic opening and a cast that is not conventionally attractive. If you are looking for a series that doesn't drag on and has a unique premise, this is the place to be. If you want a series with lots of explanations or moe characters, there are better shows. Kokkoku focuses not on the details of the world nor a fully fleshed out supernatural magic system for its world. What it did focusing themes of family, dealing with your past, and facing the future in a stagnated world. Speaking of stagnation, the main character Yukawa was literally trapped in time-stopped world because of her and the villain's unwillingness to move forward. Characters that entered this world with or without their own volition all are stuck in a place in their lives be…

interesting story and not a bad cast of characters. the op and ed are dummy good and overall the concept of a world of stopped time hasn't really been explored much before sadly the story gets a bit weird in the final few episodes and a lot happens fast that doesn't really make much sense or doesn't get explained overall a 7/10, because although it was a pretty fun watch, the show had so much more potential and just didn't execute all of its ideas in the best way would recommend watching it if you like the concept, but i cant imagine ever rewatching it :)

Hello this review is about why this anime was very good unlike all the 4 reviews ive seen. Many have said the art was atroscious, I really don't see any basis for that the style is normals colors are beatuiful and the non human designs were great. It also seems people had issue with the story being slow and again I don't see that. This show is based on time being frozen and a battle for controll for some and freedom for others. The more reviews ive rad on this sight the more i start to understand that people like to put things down just for the fun of it. Sure some characters were annoying but thats kinda the point if a chasracter annoyed you than it invoked emotion in you. In other words someone wrote and imaginary character that was able to get under your skin even though they don't exis…

This is a hard anime to review Art and music and sound and general production values are all very good. The background music enhances the mood of the scenes without stealing the scene. The art is easy on the eyes and well done in general. The idea you are looking at a world that's frozen in a moment comes across very well. The city setting is particularly well done. The story and characters however are another matter. I just really couldn't care about any of the main characters. The adorable little kid, The plucky daughter, the wise grandfather, the loser dad, I just didn't care. The villain was mildly interesting and that was about the high point of concern for the characters. The story was very linear, with little in the way of surprise, and when it did it have twists just weren't th…

I think this review is mostly for those whom have seen the show but if you haven't then let me just say don't watch it and expect for action filled mystery. The show showed quite early on that it wasn't going to take itself seriously. There is no puzzle to solve or riddles to figure out. It's a ride with family drama because they are quite a dysfunctional family. Which our main character Juri explained to us in the first episode. The show is about the people in this household that don't have their shit together. That is why the most responsible people in the house like the two mothers where not dragged into the stasis. I'm just a bit pissed by reviews that wrote this show off as straight out shit. It's all about taste when it comes to Kokkoku. If you like characters with realistic take on…

I only wanted to log this series into what I have run through, but seeing top reviews actually make this series out to be bad and not well written, I can't stand by without saying anything. Let's be frank, this series isn't something you can really like/love at first sight. It's a mess and it happens in like, what the hell? Only 1 moment? Almost a day? Not to mention loop holes in writing are all over the place. Many explanations don't meet up with what they were supposed to answer, it's like they are not even trying to explain anything to be with...... Even art style, sound, aren't that outstanding. So, what's there to like it? Surprisingly, there is. Or in fact, there are. As you can see in the synopsis, the main characters can somehow "stop time" and "move around when time and ever…
