Not every girl gets to be the main heroine, and this anime turns that idea into a surprisingly entertaining romantic comedy!
The story follows Kazuhiko Nukumizu, an ordinary high school student who unexpectedly finds himself getting involved with several girls who have lost their chances at love. From Anna Yanami, who struggles to move on from her childhood crush, to Lemon Yakishio and Chika Komari, each girl has her own romantic troubles. As Nukumizu gets closer to them, he finds himself caught up in their problems, leading to plenty of funny, awkward, and sometimes emotional moments.
The art style is one of the highlights for me. The character designs, facial expressions, and overall visuals fit the story really well. Characters like Anna Yanami, Lemon Yakishio, and Chika Komari each b…

Let's talk about one of the biggest tragedies in romance anime history: blue-haired girls. I don't know what anime writers have against them but for some reason, having blue hair is basically a death sentence. The moment a girl shows up with that beautiful blue hair a great personality and actual chemistry with the protagonist, you already know what's coming.
She's simply not winning.
It doesn't matter how much the audience loves her. It doesn't matter if she has some of the best moments in the entire series. Blue-haired girls have been taking emotional damage for decades. They're the characters who make it all the way to the final boss fight, only to lose at the very end.
So, we have Makeine as our final defense for us blue-hair lovers because for once, a romance anime looked at the bl…

As an avid fan of the late 2010s harem genre, I genuinely feel refreshed by this anime. It is such a good callback to what we enjoyed back then: it isn't like the contemporary romance anime that we have now, which is the pure romance between two people, it is a genre that I grew up on and miss because we are too conservative today - the harem anime. As for the story itself, it isn't anything special; it is a wholesome romcom and we do get real conflict in the story in the form of the heroines trying to move on from their crushes. The main protagonist himself, although I like him, isn't that notable in the sense that he's the black haired anime boy who isn't particularly exceptional but he's a kind man that helps others. The heroines are a delight, although one trope I dislike heavily in th…

What I enjoyed most about Makeine was how it approached romance from a different angle. Instead of building suspense around who would end up together, the story spent its time with the characters who had already been rejected. I found that perspective much more interesting because it made the series feel less about romance itself and more about how people deal with disappointment and continue moving forward.
This works effectively because the characters are well developed. Each heroine possesses her own distinct personality and reasons for falling in love, ensuring they never come across as copies of one another. They all receive enough screen time to leave an impression. The same applies to Nukumizu, rather than remaining in the background while others drive the story, he actively partic…

The animation is lively, the plot not so much.
It starts well enough with the two main protagonists being thrown together due to awkward circumstances, though they shortly take a backseat to the story focusing on side characters' romances. I'm down with stories having an ensemble cast and prioritizing subplots here and there, and obviously there's gotta be more than one losing heroine given the title, but I still expect the main plot and characters to develop in the meantime. They don't. The only character that seems to have growth is Lemon, and she arguably has the most meaningful plot. As for the third losing heroine, Komari, she's just annoying and her plot is meandering and pretty pointless. Come the last two episodes, I was wondering how the show would wrap back around to the two mai…

tl;dr:
+ Funny
+ Likeable cast
+ Solid production
- Kinda underbaked side cast
It's a funny show with a good cast, I just wish with all the characters they introduced that they'd do a little bit more with them? They kind of do the bare minimum to set up the "losing heroine" plot point for two of the three couples which I think is a shame.

I feel like romcoms are quite often a mixed bag since, other than MAYBE isekai, it's the most saturated genre each season.
You're kinda taking a crapshoot on what romcom ends up being peak with funny writing and an engaging cast and which is boring dogshit.
I was a little hesitant to watch it when it first came out because it seemed like one of those shows that would be painfully self-aware of romcom tropes and shit and thankfully, the title is pre…

Genuinely my favorite show of all time, there was not a moment where I wasn't entertained. In total I have watched this show like 6 times and I am so excited for the nest season. Makeine focuses on comedy and deep moments over actual romance, and while some may find it frustrating, it creates a comedic and light hearted approach that sometimes becomes thought provoking a legitimately interesting. Furthermore, the artwork is unrivaled. I have never seen better shading and more beautiful scenery than that in this show. 10/10 must watch unrivaled peak content you WILL enjoy this if you don't take it like a dramatic romance anime.

The other day, I saw a clip of the MC rejecting himself before a blue hair girl could reject him on YT, and thought it was absolutely hilarious. After that, I just had to check out this anime.
And... this anime is very mid. This show has decent cornerstones, and certain characters do get their time to shine, but the biggest let down is the interactions between characters. Mainly- the MC.
Nukumizu is not just your typical bland MC- he's a far superior version where he literally does nothing but stand there. He's like a tree. But even that's too generous- so we'll say a twig. Nuku, as they call him, is very hard to relate to, and also does nothing for the show. Like, when his friends are in trouble or need him- yeah he's physically there, but he doesn't give any positive advice or even mea…

Been a while since I've been into anime. This show was on my list when it came out since the premise seemed interesting but I only got around to it now since I've decided "let's watch some anime, it's been a while" so I wanted to get this one out of the way. I have no clue why I'm making a review I just suddenly thought so while finishing the show because I had a lot to say I don't know if I'll do this again I'm not that active on MAL as I was when I was younger. This also just general thoughts anyways up to you on what you get from this.
The initially hook for me was, again, the premise. The premise focusing on the "the losing heroine" trope as the show puts it sounds like it could make for an interesting play on the trope, and has a lot of potential to be interesting. And I would say th…

You should just propose to Yanami. I watched this series on 14 to 15 December 2025. This is not a typical romantic series. It combines romantic comedy, school slice of life, and emotional character drama.
You need to pay attention because there are many characters and multiple love triangles. The story follows Kazuhiko Nukumizu and his emotionally mature friend group. It also focuses on the girls who face rejection.
Kazuhiko Nukumizu is not a popular or dominant hero. He calls himself a background character. He becomes emotional support for girls who get rejected. The concept stands out because most rom com stories focus on the winning couple. This series shows what happens after rejection and how life moves forward.
Anna Yanami is a blue haired childhood friend who eats constantly and…

Make Heroine ga Oosugiru! Review
Wey my old review got deleted by admint... Fine. We go again.
Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!, 2024 anime that I finally finished now. I remember that season clearly. Alya was airing too. Back then I even said that season felt like the rebirth of romcom. And honestly… yeah, it kinda was.
At first I gave this anime a straight 10.
After finishing it properly? Okay, calm down. It drops to 9.
First of all, the visuals are insane. Like actually insane. It looks like a movie. I’m serious. The lighting, the color work, the framing. It doesn’t look like your average seasonal romcom. And thankfully this anime doesn’t just gather a bunch of bland characters into one bland circle. The cast is interesting. The premise is strong. The delivery is clean. The dialogue is sm…

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! was one of the most refreshing romantic comedies I’ve watched recently, mainly because of how cleverly it twists the usual formula. Instead of focusing on the “winning heroine,” the story shines a spotlight on the girls who normally get left behind after losing in love, giving the genre a surprisingly unique and entertaining perspective.
The premise immediately stands out, and the execution makes it even better. The humor is consistently strong, with great comedic timing and expressive animation that brings every joke to life. Many scenes are genuinely hilarious, but what makes the comedy work so well is that it never feels empty or forced — it’s grounded in the personalities and emotions of the characters.
The heroines are easily the heart of the serie…

Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!(負けヒロインが多すぎる!) is one of the few romcom light novel adaptations that genuinely breaks away from the usual meta of the genre. Instead of relying on a single iconic heroine and a self-insert MC whose role is just to let the audience bask in the girls’ cuteness, this series takes a different approach. It focuses heavily on platonic relationships, with Nukumizu as the protagonist whose main role is to support and emotionally help the girls who have already lost in love.
The heroines themselves are well-written and grounded in realistic emotional conflict. Anna Yanami is almost perfect in many aspects of life, yet completely fails when it comes to romance. Chika Komari is an extremely introverted and overly cautious girl who struggles with her insecurities but still tr…

While not the most creative premise of all time, Makeine certainly is still a breath of fresh air in the world of romcoms where the focus is as the name implies; the losing heroines. Instead of having a story about slowly developing relationships that end up blooming, we immediately start with cold hard rejections. Forget the winners, it's all (mostly) losers here!
Nukumizu as the main character is a good fit for the story. He hasn't been rejected but he certainly lacks experience in romance regardless. But the biggest strength of his character is that he is a good listener and thus he becomes the perfect therapist for our losing heroines.
Speaking of the heroines, the trio is a charming bunch that could easily end up as winners in other stories. Anna is a confident glutton who values he…

Definitely not my cup of tea. This high school drama stuff seems pretty real but I wasn't able to connect well since I had no such encounters or environment.
Idk but the show was pretty average in my opinion. Yeah there were many enjoyable moments and the story does justice to every character(heroine), however I felt like the show was trying too hard to be more emotional which was quite boring for me. Personally I wasn't able to connect with the characters very well which made the show a bit boring . The story is completely based on the move on of the characters and acceptance of the harsh truth, which is completely different from what we generally get to see in this genre; The premise was fresh but it just didn't work for me. I won't be surprised to see more positive reviews of this anime…

PEAK show. This anime somehow made me remember all my cringe and hurtful moments from 5th grade all the way to high school. The crushes I didn't get to confess to, the girl who im into as a joke (basically to make fun of her), and seeing couples flirt in my high school classroom is really relatable. I can't say i like remembering them but the fact that it hits home means this anime is doing something right.
Yanami Anna 10/10
Shonen romance anime usually starts with a socially awkward guy mc getting closer to the school beauty fmc. But in this anime, the mc really is a side character with no girls falling for him yet after 12 episodes, making it hard to self insert to and this show reminds me that we're all just side characters like Nukumizu who wont get a girl that easy unlike Sosuke. E…

This show is a treat for anyone well versed in romance anime and it's tropes.
Being a comedy anime and all, I was very worried that it wouldn't be nearly as funny on the re-watch. But, after having done so a few weeks ago, I can resoundingly say that this anime retained all it's lustre from a year ago. And, speaking of the comedy, this show is absolutely one of the most hilarious shows I've ever seen. Even though I knew what was coming and when it would, it nearly always managed to get a reaction out of me. I literally spit taked in sync with Anna in the first episode. The dialogue, as well, is endlessly witty; especially on Nukumizu's part. Now, this anime may pretend to put on a front as some average comedy anime, but there's a layer of great drama to it as well. This may seem like a w…

Make Heroine — or whatever you prefer to call it — is a pretty chill anime. Maybe for some people it feels too chill, but honestly, that’s fine with me.
Because of its high score on MyAnimeList (somewhere around 8), I came in with pretty high expectations. The story follows the everyday life of the MC, Nukumizu Kazuhiko, who somehow gets caught up in the love drama of his classmates.
To be honest, I’d rate the story around 6 or 7 out of 10. Not bad, but not particularly outstanding either. However, the character development is really solid. Nukumizu himself feels realistic and well-written, and my favorite character, Yanami Anna, is just amazing. She’s one of the most realistic female characters I’ve seen in a rom-com — cute, yet believable.
When it comes to visuals, this anime really s…
