Super Crooks

Super Crooks

Introduction

One last heist. That's what they all say, right? Just one final score, and everyone can retire and take up fishing. Thing is, the jails are filled with super villains who thought the same thing, and got busted. But the Heat's in a jam. He's run up the kind of gambling debt that - if he can't pay it back in cash - will be paid in blood. Nobody wants to see the most beloved supercrook of all time rubbed out by the mob - especially his biggest fan, Johnny Bolt. And Johnny's got a plan to help the Heat and make all his buddies disgustingly rich at the same time. Unfortunately for Johnny's recruits, they have to head to Spain and rob the world's most notorious super villain blind. And that's where things get tricky. (Source: Marvel Comics)

In short: Good plot, bad pace. Based not in Japan, but in the USA, Super Crooks is a superhero anime, that is NOT based on a manga, but a comic (I know they mean the same thing but ykwim). It gives off "The BOYS" TV Show vibes, and is almost Homelander. Characters are pretty likeable, and will definitely leave their mark on your memory. Their interaction is also a breathe of fresh air for those who has only been caught up with Japanese franchise. Overall, the plot is actually decent and twists were pretty good too, if only the pacing were good, it would've easily been a 9/10.

Super Crooks is an incredibly fun short series about a bunch of super-powered criminals. In only 13 episodes, we get a jewel heist, a high-speed car chase, a prison break, a complex stealth operation, and plenty more. It's nonstop action with good variety, and some pretty cool uses of the various villains' unique powers. The characters themselves are pretty likable. Johnny Bolt - the main character - is cocky, egotistical, and a bit reckless; but he's a genuinely smart, good-hearted dude that you just want to root for, despite his flaws. His relationship with Kasey is honestly really well done, and Kasey herself is a really well-written character in her own right. The rest of the crew are a lot of fun too. I particularly liked the Heat, an old retired supervillain who comes back for one…

It is an entertaining watch because it has a unique style, it's short and to me the action is done quite well. Characters are somewhat likeable and te best part about them to me, are their designs. The biggest flaw to me is its story which doesn’t feel quite relevant to care about it. It basically sums up as a series of superhero heists, which adds up to the entertainment aspect but not to an interesting narrative at all. I can see as well what other reviewers say that the gore aspect is a bit pointless but at least is somewhat funny. Overall i wood say its a mid to a good anime since at least the setting and style of the anime are somewhat unique.

TL;DR: is it worth watching? Yes if you are into the gangsta. / Baccano! vibes. It has a well informed western atmosphere, superheroes, overall entertaining events, dynamic action/animation and a wide amount of in depth characters. It has many plot-twists but they are pretty predictable once you start catching on to the pattern of the story. Super Crooks Recap (minor spoilers) Super crooks is a superhero-supervillian anime where the righteous are employed by the union of justice caring about their public image and upholding absolute justice while the evil lurk in the shadows under an overbearing criminal organization dubbed the network (with the exception of stragglers like Johnny and Kasey). This anime takes place in a chaotic America where heroes overwhelmingly outnumber villians and We…

Super crooks was a a very ambitious and engaging piece of work. I loved the art style, the music, and the fact that the elements of the story were similar to the show 'The Boys'. Despite everything I liked, I had a few issues with the anime. I hated how the two main villains of the story barely got any real characterisation or depth. The show focused on Johnny and Kasey's relationship too much. yes it's important, but with the limited amount of episodes more focus could've been put on characterising the villains idk. Additionally, I believe that the show should've slowly unravelled over multiple seasons, as it felt like they crammed a lot of information in a single season. :3 *disclaimer: I haven't read the comic* I know that there's a comic that this show is based off, so if you want…

I watched the whole Anime and I needed to take two breaks to finally finish it. The concept of the Anime is about Heros and Villains and how they fight each other. Our Main character Jonny is a bad guy and he also has a Superpower of his own, together with a team he breaks into stores and steals a lot of money. If it would be more like an Comic or like an American Show, it would fit this Anime better, cause I got some Superman Vibes, but I didn't get the feeling that I was watching an Anime. The artstyle is amazing and the characters work together, but there is nobody that is very special. I can't even remember most of the names. You could say that it would be a Fananimation about a world where Superman is old and the younger ones want to take over. An Anime to watch, if you are reall…

This is a prequel to a comic and by the end also covers the original material. While I greatly enjoyed the original prequel stuff the comic stuff was just not fun. I never read the comic so i went in blind and hoped for the best, unfortunately it wasn't half as good as the original stuff. I ADORE heists, i can never have enough of them and I can attest that the end of season heist plan is so stupid, it's a shit plan. Also post time skip Johnny is so ugly, get your beard back bro. The time skip is not that well handled honestly. I really wish we had seen more of the Praetorian fall from public grace and I'd honestly kill to have some backstory and depth for him. I really liked the art style and animations, the fights are a joy to watch. Prequel part is a 8/10 and Comic part is a 4/10 s…

Unique style of anime you'll end up loving even if the story is not that thorough. Characters are all a parody of their own from the outside, but they are dead serious in their world, so much that it makes them feel real enough and not flat at all, in the end everyone cheers up for their success given they don't have it easy. Story's pacing is not so bad, could be better, in the sense that it falls in generic but good category, nothing innovative about that. Art is a bit unique, it has a direction of older animes but as clean as newer ones but it's also not so much different that you can't forget about it. Music is really good and fits perfectly. Everything lines up to make you feel the 80-90's atmosphere the anime is supposed to be in. Its interesting to see so much "exploited" top…

This anime manages to fall short in every area. It has some great moments and sequences, but they're buried within a pile of rubbish. The writing is garbage, the animation is underwhelming, and it overall feels like a cheap attempt to copy the likes of Invincible, The Boys, and The Great Pretender--an attempt where the writers of this show completely missed what makes the others great. The show seems like it has promise in the first several episodes--the characters have interesting premises and the powers are creative--but it just keeps getting worse and worse in the middle. Super Crooks is a show that tries to simultaneously juggle being a fun, goofy superhero show and being a more serious take on the superhero genre, but it fails at both. These different tones end up completely undermi…

This anime I thought was absolutely addicting from start until finish and I love every single character, because they all have their own fun and comical personalities. At first to be honest I didn’t know what to think, because of the tittle. But, at first to be honest I thought it was lame. But, a soon as I seen that this anime contained gore and dismemberment, I was like most definitely, I was like this anime right here, is right down my alley. I hope whoever else watches this anime, enjoys it as much as than I did. The only issue that I have with this anime, is that it was short, all of the good anime usually only have one season. If you love gore, then you’ll love this anime I promise you.

I recommend this show for people who have an open mind toward alternative anime. I understand why this show is divisive lol. It is definitely far from the traditional Japanese plot/style/dialogue found in popular anime. I honestly appreciate that not everyone had a deep back story. This series delivered on entertainment. I really liked the appropriate amount of gore, I enjoyed the superhero powers, and I enjoyed watching the point of view from the villains. I enjoyed listening to the opening and ending credit music for every episode; it really gave me an American 90's hip-hop vibe (I'm not great at identifying genre so don't come at me for misidentification) that I seriously jammed to. Admittedly, my enjoyment is probably because I haven't watched as much anime as I have watched Amer…

It's only style, not substance nor effort. I'll discuss it in the following aspects: Production: 5/10 The most flawed aspect of the anime. The animation is really janky, the movement and composition of the figures lacks any fluidity, softness or impact. The movements are forced and the lack of impact makes the action scenes not enjoyable. This is especially notable in the opening sequence where Kasey's movement instead of enticing, looks uncanny. Even City Hunters was better. Design: 8/10 The design and art is attractive and stylish. However, style needs talent to be actually delivered. The character design does wonders here but it fails to translate into animation. The use of color is interesting and mostly on point. There is little inconsistencies when the characters are in action and t…

I saw hot males, I watch. The best things out of the anime is the OP and the hot males. Johnny Bolt is so dumb and hot. I'm sorry. Plot wise, it is a heist anime about a bunch of petty thevies trying to fight off overpower supperheros. The crimals have much more moral code than the heros, btw. It's fine, not the worst anime in the world but kinda weird. It's like watch an American show where everyone is overdramatic but it's a Japanese show where is overdramatic and overpolite but it is still in America. 6 hot males out of 10.

The series actually starts well. The first episode is a genuinely entertaining, funny satire on a superhero origin story. It's got the standard elements of a Mark Millar comic, including high school geeks discussing comics, but ends in spectacular fashion, with earnest Johnny inadvertently hurting (killing?) dozens of people and causing millions of dollars in damage, thus deciding to become...a villain. Unfortunately, it's all downhill from there. The next episodes consist of generic supervillain capers with very little humor or ingenuity. Moreover, the entire universe (or "Millarverse" as he likes to call it) is poorly conceived. None of the abilities or battles make a lick of sense, and it's a constant source of annoyance. I kept comparing this series very unfavorably to Larry Correi…

Super Crooks is just super fun to watch and actually has a great story behind it. I’d recommend this to anyone who wants an anime relating to heist-type stuff, like Great Pretender. (spoiler free) Story - 10 From the first episode, I knew this anime was going to be super fun and engaging. I know some people didn’t like what the first episode happened to be, but I thought it was a great start to an anime, and I didn’t find it boring at all. Continuing on, the story keeps its fast and exciting pace. The heists are interesting and fun to follow. The concept of superpowers isn’t pushed to much that you get annoyed if you don’t like superpower anime. It’s just used as a part of the story which actually makes it even more creative and enjoyable. Art - 8 Not my favorite art style, but there…

I didn’t have that much of an expectation walking into Super Crooks knowing that it is a Netflix anime. The only background information I know is that Super crooks was created by the guy that made Kick Ass. So I went in super blind and honestly wasn’t disappointed at all. Obviously it’s not placed in the upper bracket of Netflix anime, along with Devilman and Violet but not to a point that it’s unwatchable. The story is centered around Johnny Bolt, a guy with electric powers, as he join forces with a legendary villain, along with a group of characters with their own unique superpowers in order to steal a Macguffin. It’s basically a heist movie with superpowers and to be honest, I really enjoyed it. Seeing them utilizing their unique powers to complete the job is really fun. The powers…

I watched this show with my friends over Discord, and the opinion was pretty unanimous. We all despised this show, and were honestly shocked that it has as high a score as it does here on MAL. This is a bad anime and a bad superhero show. Allow me to explain why. The pacing is slow, too slow. The episodes drag on and more often than not the action scenes lack momentum. The slow modern jazz that is played over most of them does not help. Though this is more of a matter of personal taste, I must say I also did not like the music very much at all. Most of this would be forgivable to me if I liked the characters and story. While many of the side characters have interesting gimmicks, they lack development, which is a shame since much of them have much potential. The Gladiator stood out to me…

ok this seals it for me, the scores of this site make no sense to me anymore. this anime is a masterpiece and seeing a score of 7 its insulting to say the least, i am ashamed to be a fellow human being if this is our taste in general. just sad. the art style is one of the best of the last decade, very similar to invincible, but this one keeps the art quality high at all times, while invincible lacks in sveral scenes. this is the boys and invincibile, but better. i hope to come back in 10 years to this page and see the score change to 9, this is a classic, and i hope it will get a season 2.

Overall (8) - A niche heist series with superhuman elements. The animation style was industry standard. The sound design and direction were good. The dynamics between the characters were enjoyable. Have a closed style ending which gave me enjoyment. Story (7) - The story was an adaptation of a western comic by the same name. The season was divided into 3-4 episodes per story arcs. There were many plot twists and over exposition in the show, but it was part of the textbook case for heist plot points. The story also has a closed ending which I prefer. Beware of some unexpected time skips throughout the series. Art (8) - The art styles give me the same vibes of the Great Pretender, especially the strokes connotation and overall colour schemes. The animation was enjoyable even though there w…
