I remember watching like 2 random episodes way way way back when this was in the zeitgeist.
Speaking of, I see some folk feel that this falling out of the cultural airspace is an indictment on the show having done something wrong.
I disagree with that, I think the Endless Eight is Big Genius Love It A Lot, but that point asides not all great things are going to be remembered and persist as strongly as when it was new. Too many other factors for that stuff.
What endears me is the total commitment to that arc. Was it easier to do that because the industry was smaller back then? If you've got way more employees n stuff now, would you take as many risks as you would when the industry was like what 1/8 or 1/10 the size?
Where I like or dislike a direction, I respect a strong vision that isn't h…

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is still one of the most iconic anime series ever made — but Season 2 is also one of the strangest viewing experiences I have ever had.
If this season started around episode 7, you would not hear many complaints from me whatsoever. From that point onward, it feels very similar to Season 1 in the best way possible. We get the classic Haruhi energy again: the SOS Brigade hanging out, strange situations unfolding, Kyon reacting to everything with his usual dry commentary, and the series once again capturing that nostalgic feeling of youth, school life, and weird little adventures that somehow feel bigger than they should.
But before getting to that point, there is one massive elephant in the room:
Endless Eight.
This arc is quite an animal to tackle. When…

Suzumiya is a fun series that initially throws you into an extremely goofy movie (but I had quite a bit of faith in the series, so I was curious to see what would come of it later), followed by a mysterious and no less original introduction in the real world, and after a few episodes you will ideally get hooked and enjoy an entertaining drama with impeccable characters. The series consists of a number of different plots that follow each other, at the beginning there are definitely a few surprises, then it goes more towards humor and unforgettable characters. I was most excited by the time travel episodes, where everything was wonderfully thought out, on the other hand, the most controversial and for me the most boring part is Endless Eight - I have to appreciate that every episode of this…

Garbage. The time loop was poorly executed and YES it ruins the entire fucking series stop coping just because you're gooned out over a few of the characters. All of the characters are just so mind bogglingly stupid even the ones that are supposed to be smart. Kyon is just a bland stupid cookie cutter mc and the writing is garbage. The show is just Asahina getting sexually harassed/assaulted and Kyon just going along for the ride. Lame as shit.
This is just another filler anime you should leave on in the background while doing something else and has no substance at all but of course the cult fanbase is gonna defend it and try to gaslight you into thinking it's the greatest writing in the entire world! Best anime ever! WRONG.

They somehow made another season of this, and it actually managed to be worse. You may think I'm here to complain about the Endless Eight, well yes but also no. I think it was a cool concept, but the ending of it was TERRIBLE. A lot of people are annoyed at the groundhog day repeat, but it's really not bad. There was enough variation in all of them that they each felt like their own episode. I do think that 6 instead of 8 would've been better, but it's whatever. The ending of that though, man it was so stupid that I cannot believe they actually came up with that ending and gave it the go-ahead. Not to mention the ending of the whole series was just...kinda mid too. There was, however, a lot of drama towards the end — if only they actually gave us more of that prior to then.
If you liked t…

I’m not writing about the entire season. Through the review of a single story arc (which is ironically very hated), I want to express my admiration for the whole series.
The Endless Eight Arc is without question one of the boldest, most colossal moves ever made in the anime medium. Even as an adaptation it’s astonishing, considering that in the light novel it amounts to roughly a single episode — this time nobody can complain that the original material was rushed, so they complain about something else. Most viewers skip it entirely or quit the series halfway through. Those who do attempt it end up banging their head against the wall after an episode or two, or they get used to it, or even grow to like it in a sort of Stockholm-syndrome way — and then there’s me, who considers it the peak…

First Half of HaruMiya > Second Half of HaruMiya
For context, I’ve been watching HaruMiya in chronological order, and yeah, woof, this second half was rough.
While I had a lot of praise for the first half for its brilliant exploration of atmospheric strangeness, it is not unexpected that the show was unable to maintain the precise pacing needed to be successful at that type of storytelling in the second half.
I’m not saying anything new here, but the Endless Eight arc was hard to get through. I am the type of person who watches an episode of anime every day to slowly-but-steadily get through a show, and returning to the same plot over and over again for about a week wasn’t the most fun or interesting. I think there was potential here—I love a time loop arc (and had a lot of fun with…

Let me say I was not hating this, until I got to the Endless 8 arc. What a WASTE of my TIME. Wish I could time travel back to when I hit play on episode 1. and never watch this Anime. I generally love anime. There are only 1 or two I have ever just stopped watching and never bothered to review.
But this anime, and its malignant arc, I decided for the first time ever to log int MAL and write a negative review. Tying someone to a chair and forcing them to watch the Endless Eight arc is very likely against the Geneva Convention. When I hit the 5th episode in that arc, I jumped online to see how many more and when I saw, I considered this the Seppuku song for this anime.
Horrible shovelware content.

Man, I was really let down by this season. I get the whole idea behind the eight repeated episodes, but honestly? It just felt lazy. Watching the same thing over and over was frustrating and kinda boring. I kept hoping it would switch things up or go somewhere interesting... but nope.
There was so much potential to explore cool stuff with these characters, and instead they went with this weird loop that didn’t add much. I know some people might enjoy it or see some deeper meaning, but for me, it just didn’t work.
I’m not trying to hate, just saying how I felt watching it. I really liked the first season, so this one was a big disappointment. Hope future seasons take more risks and actually give us something fresh.

Man why did they drag an episode for so long, you are telling me they forced us to watch the same episode 7 or so times, ALL OF THEM WITH THEIR OWN ANIMATION and they dont have the dignity to show us their slice of life last day that breaks the loop, it isnt anything special either, in any romance show this would have been the fireworks kiss scene, in any suspense anime this would have been a mystery slowly told via 7 episodes, some things really slightly changing in a way that if you pay attention you can figure out something cool.
But nop, f*ck it, lets give them slop 2 months in a row, like who the hell thought this was a good idea? The animation was so good every single episode too, so why waste it on a story you have already told, you know they were able to give the sensation of the…

I sleep with the endless arc 10/10
not but seriously its a really good show, unique with the narrative direction, the plot its so a thing really, all the tropes of typical highschool slice of life anime are breaking here, makes me view the evolution of the anime and how break their limits its really cool, the way of storytelling its so experimental (well most its confuse but it works for the good of the show, it´s part of the charm), i love this anime, but its not for everyone or at least requieres a little more effort for part of the public to make this show really enjoyable and meaningful
(sorry for my bad english xd)

'Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?'
The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is most definitely a good series, but in some aspects, it is flawed, especially when it comes to a certain part of the story, that people do not seem to enjoy at all. However, if you can look past that, I'm sure you will find something quite special.
Before reading this review, keep in mind that this is a review of the whole series, excluding the movie, because a certain loop has given me enough of this series, for now, at least.
Animation:
The animation in this show is stellar, especially since it was made in 2009, it is very well done in most aspects, and it has not disappointed me for the whole run. While yes, it is in the old art style of anime, you might not even notice it because of how smooth it…

The writing for this season is honestly abysmal. The first two episodes and the first three episodes of the third arc were great. The rest, however, was just ass. Endless eight, while an interesting concept, was executed terribly. Nearly all the episodes, except the first two, were identical. I would say the same for the last, but the only difference was the ending really. And part four of The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya...It was a total mess. Kyon confronts Haruhi for her bullshit, yet he ends up dismissing her actions as if nothing terrible occurred... What a way to ruin an almost redeeming arc. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya remains to be one of my favorite franchises, but this season in particular is just unfiltered garbage.

Haruhi Suzumiya.
We all know about the endless eight fiasco. It has been *the* worst arc I have ever seen in an anime period. No doubt about it.
But if we put that past it, the rest of the show is amazing.
I really want to talk about the English Dub version of the movie episode, episode 11.
My god this is such a good episode. The english dub for Kyon KILLED it no joke. Like after Endless Eight arc I wished it would get better, holy crap did it deliver. Please do not drop the anime because of the endless eight. Seriously Episode 11 is a work of art.
The music: Last episode they brought the original OP which was nice. Other OP sucked tbh
animation: still 2009ish so pretty old. not that bad.
Consensus: Endless eight sucked. If it ended at the last endless eight episode, I would've g…

I don't have much to say here, but first and foremost, I wanna make one thing clear. The reason this review is so low isn't the Endless Eight.
I mean, it doesn't help. Not in the slightest. But it's not the main reason.
I've talked to a few people about this anime, and they all seem to agree on the same thing. "You aren't really supposed to like Haruhi." I've wondered what the aim is with Haruhi's character, and some people have just called her a tsundere, some a mild antagonist, others the central negative force in the whole anime and the enjoyment is supposed to come from watching the relatable characters deal with her. I was leaning towards the last option, but as I watched and finished this season, I realized even if that's the point, the writing doesn't lend itself to that. Any ti…

In the end, there were so many reasons for me to hate this, but I don't.
There are places, especially one long stretch of episodes, where are you realize you're not going anywhere. Despite that, I still got through and enjoyed it to a degree. I definitely wouldn't put it on my rewatch list, but I don't regret watching it either. There was absolutely no lack of energy in any of it. It just happened to be enough to push the story along and keep it interesting. It's not a bad selection and I would suggest it, but I would have to preface it with the information and I've got here.

Story/Character:
The second season of Haruhi is literally just more Haruhi with one big caveat and I think literally everyone knows what I'm talking about. My opinion on the greatest anime arc known to mankind is that you're a total pussy if you hate it. You see It really makes you 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 like Nagato. We also get the movie making arc brings us the legendary scene where Kyon becomes sick of Haruhi's bullshit and beats her to a pulp (that's what shoulda happened, sadly cuckzomi stopped him before he could). Shamisen is best anime cat ever he is awesome and super cool and he shits all over Kyon in the greatest battle of wits I've ever seen
Animation:
it looks like k-on
Sound:
Great additions all round to the fantastic Haruhi background music, I can hear it in my sleep

Initial Thoughts. This show is phenomenal. This show also sucks. It stirs some weird conflicting emotions where i really enjoy it and as a critic think it's amazing and yet also it infuriates me at the same time. Like stubbing your toe in the dark going to a nice cold drink from fridge in the middle of the night, just to stab it again on the way back. it's like happy and frustrated at the same time.
It has one of the best ideas explored in like a 4th wall or 5th wall story telling but also pushes those boundaries to the extreme. If you consider yourself an otaku, I dare say you've already seen this. It is a must watch for any die-hard Anime Fan and i would personally put this in the 'classics' for anime along with like the Godfath…

Haruhi was a foundational anime for me growing up. I used to watch it with my best friend in 5th grade on my mom's desktop computer - when we finished the show we moved onto Haruhi-chan, and all the delightfully silly fan content people were making on youtube at the height of its 2008 fandom heyday. I obsessively read theories online, bought the only two volumes of the light novel that were out in translation, and read TONS of fan comics. When endless eight rolled around we laughed, cried, and gave up on the season midway through out of frustration. I caught up so I could watch Disappearance and remember finishing the movie in tears, watching it in windows media player on that same desktop computer.
I have such fond memories of Haruhi, and I think I'll probably never quite outgrow it - t…

I’VE FINALLY DONE IT, I FINISHED ENDLESS EIGHT!!!!!!!!
Ok, in all seriousness, the melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya season 2 isn’t nearly as bad as people say. It’s a solid 7/10 just like the first season, even with the inclusion of endless eight.
It’s just such a bold and unique idea that I can’t bring myself to hate it, and it really drives home to point of how devastating and frustrating the time loop was for Yuki Nagato.
I never really got into the whole ‘Haruhi-ism’ thing, I’m more of a casual fan, so maybe that’s why I’m not upset that this took up over half the season. Honestly, the endless eight episode is actually a pretty enjoyable one, so it wasn’t too hard to rewatch over and over again.
In case you were wondering, endless eight part 4 was my favourite of the 6 middle repeats…
