The Demon Girl Next Door

The Demon Girl Next Door

Introduction

After a strange dream of a mysterious ancestor, high school student Yuuko Yoshida wakes to see that she has grown demonic horns and a tail. Dazed and confused, her mother reveals to her a dark family secret: her family is descended from a Dark Clan that was banished to live powerless and destitute by their mortal enemies, the magical girls of the Light Clan. The only way to lift their ancestry's curse is for Yuuko to find a magical girl, murder her, and splatter her blood all over her ancestor's Demon God statue. Fortunately for "Shadow Mistress Yuuko," a magical girl saves her from being run over by an oncoming truck. Unfortunately, Momo Chiyoda happens to be Yuuko's classmate at Sakuragaoka High and is much stronger than her in both strength and endurance. Taking pity on her wimpy assailant, the magical girl agrees to train Yuuko and help her unlock her dormant powers. Now, Yuuko must rise up and defeat her generous frenemy to save her family from the terrible grip of poverty. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This is one of the better comedies I've watched. I really like this show a lot. It delivers the thing it promises: comedy. The anime circles around two main characters: Yuuko, a demon girl that's a bit too dumb and nice to be a demon girl, and Momo, a magical girl obsessed with doing workout that Yuuko is trying to beat. She always fails in the process, but during that a great friendship is formed between the two. This anime has more depth than I expected. The characters and memorable and unique in their own ways, and all of them even have problems with which they struggle, often related to their backstories. They actually feel like real people rather than the common copypastes of stereotypes. This anime is a great example of "cute girls doing cute things" as well as strong female friend…

A decent, watchable anime. What stands out is that the magical girls don’t hide their nature, which brings a refreshing twist. The stories are simple and light, not stressful but also not boring. At the center is a magical girl who grows closer to the "villain", the latter shows interest as well, though the misunderstanding scenes sometimes feel a bit cheap. It would have been nice to see the boldness J.C. Staff used to show in their classic works. But this has a kids' rating, with cute girls goofing around, and surprisingly, the cuteness doesn’t get tiresome and is actually quite pleasant to watch. There are no dramatic moments, everything is neat and well-made. A key point is that the anime fully delivers on what you expect from it, which is rare. All in all, if you’re interested, give i…

A pathetically weak demon girl fends off against mediocre magical girl and the magical girl can't help but pity her. A setup for what is a relatively decent situational comedy. The episodes follow a pretty standard structure and the characters bounce off of each other well. The story is very slow and doesn't really go anywhere but that's fine for what is effectively slice of life between a bunch of schoolgirls. The characters are animated very well and have pretty good writing, even if their actions are at times counterintuitive. The art style of the show does feel a tad inconsistent at times, but the variation works out to its advantage in most of the scenes. My main critique is just that the show really does feel like it goes nowhere for multiple episodes at a time, but as long as you…

machikado mazoku (the demon girl next door) is honestly such a fun, calm, and relaxing watch. it's probably one of my favorite underrated animes ever. there are no real flaws with the show, the art is nice, the music and VA are good, and the plot isn't complicated af nor is it all over the place. definitely a diamond in the rough type of show. the show mainly focuses on the dynamic between the two main characters: shamiko and momo. thankfully, shamiko and momo are both extremely likeable characters and are easy to watch. the only real downside of this show is that it might be slow at times, but the appeal of the show was never about the plot. but even then, there is a plot (albeit simple) and it does progress throughout the show, so it isn't just shamiko and momo doing nothing all season…

I’ll be honest, I probably wouldn’t have picked this show up if not for the “luck of the draw” stack challenge which happened a few months ago. Nevertheless, I’m quite glad that I did. Machikado Mazoku, ‘Street Corner Demon’ / ‘The Demon Girl Next Door’, is a rather unassuming show on the surface, glossed over by many (including myself in the past) for looking like “just another Madoka-inspired Mahou Shoujo parody / deconstruction”. However, this anime has proven itself to be the complete opposite. While it has its darker moments for character development, Machikado Mazoku is a comedy through and through. With a needy demon ancestor trapped inside of a tiny statue, a reserved teenage succubus who wouldn’t know evil if it slapped her in the face, and a Magical Girl who ends up becoming be…

This anime certainly wasn't one meant to deliver much of a story. Yes, there is a plot, and yes, it does explore the plot, but it more so explores the cast. The first tag is comedy, and that is pretty much all it was meant to be. The "plot" is mainly just there to serve as a basis for the jokes and comedy that comes with it. What makes this show funny is just how weird the cast is. The main character, Yuuko, is in extreme poverty. When she learns of her family's history from her mother, she accepts what comes with it. Oddly, even to her, is how easily all her friends take it when she's telling them why she suddenly has horns and a tail. One also nonchalantly mentions how there's a magical girl in the same school. Even the main character is perplexed at just how odd things are. Part of wh…

I have never written a review and I will probably never write another review besides the second season and hopefully the third season. Magical slapstick buddy comedy with a fun cast of cute girls. Wonderful friendship for two people that got a bad hand in life but keep looking forward. Art style wasn’t revolutionary, but the colorful palette and the efficient use of high-paced stills and cuteness makes it more than satisfactory Last comment funniest all-female cast since I watched Nichijou If you’re looking for this anime to do anything more than make you laugh and love the characters, then don’t bother. THIS ANIME IS ONLY SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR.

Machikado Mazoku, an anime about some girl who turns out to be a demon lord, Because anime just didn’t have enough demon lords except she is kinda shit at it. Machikado Mazoku follows Demon girl Shamiko who wakes up one day to learn she descends from some demon clan that was thrown into poverty by the light clan of Magical girls. If Shamiko wants to lift the curse from her family, she needs to defeat the town's magical girl. Shamiko is sweet but rather brash and she also has a very smooth brain. And Magical Girl Momo, Shamiko’s rival turned friend. She's your classic kuudere, shy and reserved but also quite smart. She’s a cool character I would say. Other characters include, Shamikos’ Mother Seiko, Her sister Ryoko, her ancestor Lilith and Mikan, another magical Girl. Now as weird…

Ugh, I really wanted to like this one. I passed it up when it first aired, but after learning a bit more about it, I thought I'd finally give it a try after I finished some shows. But let me ask you: Have you ever watched a show that, even though it has a small number of episodes, took you months to finish in its entirety for whatever reason? But you couldn't bring yourself to drop it completely? The Demon Girl Next Door, Japanese title being Machikado Mazoku, is one of those shows for me. Basically, a girl named Yuko Yoshida finds out she's descended from a family that serves a demon, Lilith, and they've been constantly defeated by magical girls over centuries. When her demon powers awaken, her family wants her to take on a local magical girl, Momo Chiyoda, so they can break the curse tha…

While I give this show a 7/10, consider this review to be 7.5. I was thoroughly charmed by this show. It's a show that doesn't at all take itself seriously, except when it needs to. Which, when it does, it's heartwarming and uplifting. Every other moment I was entranced by its likeable characters, lively animation that's full of personality, and was either smiling or laughing the whole way through. It just barely missed my mark for an 8/10. I think the main issue with this show is it's too fast paced. It doesn't give you time to process anything, which, for it's humor it works for the most part. But I often found myself mashing the 10-second rewind button just to re-read what they said. The show would do well to diversify it's humor, and slow down some. But other than that, if you're…

12 episodes at 24 minutes long make for that standard anime watch time. Kiki Kanri is about a girl who is suddenly told she's got the demon blood by a succubus ghost who yells at her causing her to grow horns and a tail. The succ ghost then tells her the reason she is poor is because of magical girls and instructs her to go kill one. I will now inform you that this girl is frail, short, and blatantly somewhat sickly for a teenager. Upon finding a magical girl, her life is saved by said magical girl and the journey of life long debts begin there and don't end. In what appears to be a cutesie skit anime slaps your nuts with some emotions and decent story. I'm a dumb fucker for cute anime and somewhat plausible plot. Kiki Kanri went from giving me the haha's and teehee's to making me questi…

An outstanding moe anime. I would have never expect that Machikado Mazoku is such a jewel before I started watching it. It does not only have one of the cutest character relationships and even one of my favorite character relationships in general, it even has an interesting story, good character development and especially one character with a depth you would never expect from a moe anime (not that I don't like moe anime, I love them, but it was unexpected good). Yuko and Momo carry the show and I loved every moment of interaction between them. Even though it basic structure is to be lighthearted, but there are also serious moments which balances perfectly. It even is comparable to Madoka Magica in some moments. I really can recommend you to watch it.

Machikado Mazoku (2019) Cute girls do cute things is what this is but with a magic girl format. The show focuses on the demon girl which is a really nice thing to go with the 'evil side'. Her ancestor trapped in a totem of sorts is hilarious. The outfit the demon girl wears is raunchy and not as you'd expect on a girl like her but cute. The magical girl's personality also doesn't fit her current dress. The show does have great art and it is nicely suited. There are times it feels a bit plastic. By that I mean it feels false and not so infighting with the rest of the show. Like using precut backgrounds in a play. The OP is fun and the ED is nice. The voices are great in Japanese. The general sounds throughout the show are great especially Yuuko our little demon. Characters develop n…

A cute and sweet series that does not stand out Released on July 12 during the summer season of 2019, Machikado Mazoku, or as it is also known, "The Demon Girl Next Door", is the anime adaptation of the manga published since 2014 by Izumo Ito, the series is a production of J.C. Staff studios directed by Hiroaki Sakurai, which came to have a total of 12 episodes. Being one of those titles to which I did not pay much attention during its premiere, to the point of passing it, Machikado Mazoku was a series that I decided to keep an eye on after seeing some screenshots of it on Twitter, finding in it a simple and adorable-looking title but at the same time quite fun and enjoyable. The anime, then, is a slice of life with a comic tone, which largely parodies what would be the typical anime o…

I absolutely adore this series. It's my favorite comedy since Gabriel Dropout. It brings to mind Tentai Senshi Sunred in which the glory days of super sentai heroes are over and now he and the villains have to deal with everyday life. In this case it feels as if the glory days of magical girls has passed and they've settled into a mundane lifestyle. Enter Shamiko (Shadow Mistress Yuko) who inherits the destiny of her Dark Clan ancestors who opposed the Light Clan of the magical girls. Only Yuko is woefully unfit to be fighting anyone. I'm a sucker for humor where the protagonist's main struggle is against their own ineptitude and poverty. I love watching her succeed through her good nature, perseverance, and the merciful pity of her adversaries.

I can see that people are comparing this anime to Endro, but Endro is far worse than Machikado Mazoku. I mean, if Endro's comedy was like dangling keys in front of a five year old, Machikado Mazoku's comedy has to at least be on par of dangling keys in front of a twelve year old. To be honest, there's not A LOT of positive things that can be said about this show. It's a comedy show, thats not super funny with a host of characters that aren't very original. The cast is pretty small, consisting of basically 2 main characters, and like four side characters. Not that a small cast prevents a comedy from flourishing, but the comedy of this show isn't amazing. A lot of things don't make the most sense, but the show tries to make it work with the ending, which, it kind of does? I mean, the logic o…

Kore de katta to omou na yo! (Don't think you have won!) The only one Manga Time Kirara Anime in this year. Of course, this is will be one of my anticipated anime. Whats make me more happy again is my favorite VA, Akari Kito and Konomi Kohara are the cast staff of MC. I know Konomi Kohara always doing her best effort when she have major role, such as Chika in Kaguya Sama. And Yeah! Konomi Kohara is very good doing her role as Shamiko. Shamiko is now my favorite character of the year because its her cuteness noise. Story: 9/10 I think it was another boring magical girl when I saw it on the Manga Time Kirara Carat's cover. But I was wrong, this MC of the story is from your usual magical girl's villain, yes the MC is a girl who suddenly turned into demon (to be precisely: succubus) named Sh…

At first glance, there is nothing special about this anime. Even when I finished it, I kind of felt like there was nothing special about this anime. But, somehow, even though there's nothing special about this anime, I finished this anime and I really liked it. This is because of two things: 1. The comedy is good. At times, it's really good, but most times, it's just good enough to make you chuckle and smile throughout the episode. It's not the kind of comedy that makes you fall out of the bed in tears. It just makes you laugh a little the whole way through. 2. Shamiko (Yoko) and Momo are extremely lovable characters and they play very well off of each other, with Momo (Who is supposed to be the good one, but is low-key crafty as hell) always manipulating Shamiko (Who is supposed to b…

This was my experience watching this anime. The episode would start, something would happen that made me laugh my ass off, get up to rewind it, laugh a couple more times, keep watching the episode, repeat. Not a single other anime has made me laugh and enjoy it as much as this one. Story: 8 This show isn't just mindless interactions between a weak demon-girl and the powerful magical girl. There is actually plot progression moving along by episode and the relationship between characters become stronger as the show goes on. Art: 7 The art and animation itself isn't the greatest, but this is not a show that required it. It worked well enough that it made me laugh a lot. Off the top of my head, the part I replayed the most was Momo's drink-shaking sequence. Sound: 10 The voice acting for…

"Ganbare Shamiko!" It's safe to say that recently anime has become over saturated with isekai and other fairly predictable shows, so having a show like this is a breath of fresh air. While the slice of life genre of anime isn't one that stands out much, this is a show that everyone should give a try to. Easily being one of the funniest shows in a while and having such a cute plot, this show is a visual anti-depressant. The story revolves around Yuuko, who one day wakes up as a demon and sets out to improve the conditions of her family by defeating a magic girl, however, as it often does, life had other plans and our resident magic girl (Momo) ends up saving our new found demon-girl and start training her to awaken her powers. What makes this show so entertaining is the banter between th…
