Mashle: Magic and Muscles

Mashle: Magic and Muscles

Introduction

In this magical world, one is easily identified as having magical abilities by a distinctive mark on their face. Those unable to practice magic are swiftly exterminated to maintain the magical integrity of society. However, deep within a forest lies an anomaly in Mash Burnedead, who can be found pumping iron with one arm and lifting a cream puff with the other. This aloof boy with superhuman strength—but no magical abilities—leads a quiet life with his father, far removed from society. Mash's peace is soon disturbed when the authorities discover his lack of magical powers. They issue him an ultimatum: compete to become a Divine Visionary, which would force everyone to accept him, or be persecuted forever. To protect his family, he enrolls in the prestigious Easton Magic Academy, which only the most elite and gifted students are allowed to attend. Now, Mash must overcome his shortcomings as a magic-less being and surpass the other students—relying solely on his muscles. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Satisfying parody of Harry Potter, with a twist of no magic for the main character. Nothing more, nothing less. Would recommend to pass the time. The story is not unique in any way, the art style is passable, the characters are enjoyable at best. It takes situations to a ridiculous level. Most people would enjoy this, although it is not a memorable series at all. The series will attract viewers who crave magic shows with a stoic main character who upholds moral values. Lots of references from Harry Potter series, such a principal that looks like and acts like Dumbledore, friends who make mistakes due to pressure, and enemies who later become allies; a trope well used in a lot of other series.

A much more entertaining surprise than I expected. I admit I started Mashle without high expectations. I discovered the anime through a YouTube Short, and the idea of a protagonist who solves everything through brute force in a world where everyone relies on magic caught my eye. I found the concept intriguing and decided to give it a shot. Fortunately, it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. It is impossible to watch Mashle without noticing the massive influence of Harry Potter. The magic school, the dormitories, the exams, the social hierarchy based on magical talent, and even certain character archetypes clearly evoke J.K. Rowling’s work. However, rather than hiding this inspiration, Mashle fully embraces the comparison and turns the whole thing into a grand parody. What sets…

It's funny and definitely hits the parody aspect of OPM and HP but I just think the story was very slow and kinda boring, especially towards the end half. I didn't really enjoy the dungeon style fights, perhaps if the locations weren't so boring the fights could have been more unique to the environments. The artstyle was great, but the animation itself isnt a cinematic masterpiece, however I think it's fitting for what the show is. I had few laughs but some jokes get a bit old after a while. Opening remains to be the most memorable and best part of this whole experience, but I wouldn't recommend watching the anime for just hearing the opening haha

Mashle is honestly quite simple to describe: it’s pure comedy gold. It’s one of the few anime that genuinely makes me laugh out loud while watching. The vibe is similar to One Punch Man or Grand Blue, featuring an overpowered protagonist who feels completely out of place and socially disconnected in the funniest possible way. The concept is straightforward: a magical academy designed to train elite magic users… except the main character has absolutely no magic at all. Mash’s only ability is his completely absurd physical strength, which turns every situation into comedy. The humor comes from everything — situational jokes, visual gags, and the constant contrast between the seriousness of the magical world and Mash’s simple mindset. What makes it even better is that Mash himself is calm…

I rated Mashle a 7 out of 10 because while it clearly borrows a lot from other series, it succeeds at what it wants to be. Yes, the Harry Potter inspirations are very obvious. A magic school, houses, exams and a wizard society that feels extremely familiar. However, Mashle does not even try to hide this. Instead, it leans into it and turns the concept into a comedy. The result feels like a mix of Harry Potter and One Punch Man, but with a strong focus on humor. What really makes Mashle work is how funny it is. The comedy lands surprisingly well, and the anime managed to genuinely make me laugh multiple times. That is something not many anime can do consistently. Mash as a main character is simple but effective. His deadpan reactions and absurd physical strength create a lot of great come…

Mashle is fun, shounen romp with pretty good animation and decent enough comedy, with a somewhat interest gimmick, but it's nothing really to write home about. I'm a big fan of the vibrant colors Mashle has to offer; they're nothing particularly out of the ordinary, but it avoids modern anime pitfalls of washed-out blandness. The animation itself is also fine; the fight choreo isn't very exciting at all, but the movement itself is very fluid. The rest of the animation holds up pretty well outside of fight scenes. Character designs are pretty basic "Shounen Anime Aimed At 12 y/os," so nothing really new there. The music is serviceable, but I do want to give special kudos to the sound design; I like the animated graphics that come when new major characters are introduced, and the little so…

The shortest possible review of Mashle is this: a less tightly written Mob Psycho 100 with a larger cast of characters and an MC who has the opposite of Mob's problem (a ton of muscles but no supernatural power vs zero muscles and all the supernatural power) If I were to rate this anime on fun alone, it would be at least a 9.5/10. The characters are a blast, it's genuinely funny and unexpectedly sweet and wholesome at times. The fights are engaging, even if the magic system gets a little handwavy sometimes. Actually, that's my first genuine problem with the anime: people just pull new abilities out of their asses all the time. Be it a mark that lets you go wannabe super Saiyan or an eye that lets you cancel out magic, it's kinda difficult for a battle to be tense at all because you know t…

Mashle ended up being a huge disappointment. The characters are incredibly bland, offering almost nothing in terms of personality or development. They feel like generic templates dragged through each episode with no real purpose. The music doesn’t help either; it’s forgettable at best and downright annoying at worst, adding no energy or atmosphere to the scenes. But the worst offender is the comedy. It’s repetitive, predictable, and painfully unfunny. The show keeps recycling the same jokes, hoping they’ll land, but they never do. Instead of feeling like a clever parody, it just comes across as lazy and uninspired. Overall, Mashle is a boring, poorly executed anime that fails in almost every area it tries to shine in. Not worth the time. 2/10

me and my boyfriend watched mashle together but due to him having dyslexia we had to watch the dub and it was unbearably cringe. the anime itself was good and funny, but the english va's are so bad.. especially the female va's, their voices are so exaggerated high pitched and it doesnt even sound good or cute. I was mostly annoyed when a female character (lemon and love cute) was on screen because their voices sounded like someone was dragging a fork against a plate. the names of some of the characters were also super cringe when watching the dub. (dot, lemon, love cute, cell war and margarette macarone) overall, the anime is good but super cringe if you watch the dub, highly recommend the sub instead to spare yourself.

In Mashle we follow Mash, an extremely simple-minded meathead with no magic in a world were even those with weaker magic are shunned, and those without are quickly culled. Or is he without magic? Because as we quickly find out, mages have a basic human's biology but Mash is just built different. The story plays out similarly to one punch man, where Mash is a powerhouse and the story revolves more about secondary characters, villains, overarching plot points, etc... There were some parts that I really liked, Mash being aloof turns interesting when he just doesn't follow along someone else's manipulation, or in the contrary, when he ignores the whole picture and acts quickly based on instincts. The school's director small role as a sort of mentor is good as well. The characters don't feel…

In a world where magic defines status, there is a boy without magic dares to break the system using only his fists. Mashle unfolds as a comedic shounen fantasy by attempting to blend absurd humor with magical battles and underdog storytelling. The plot follows Mash Burnedead, a physically extraordinary young man born in a world dominated by magic but entirely unable to use it. Determined to live freely and protect those he cares about, Mash enrolls in Easton Magic Academy, a prestigious institution where magical ability determines status. The narrative charts his rise through the academy using brute strength, creativity, and sheer determination, subverting the rigid rules of the magical world. Even if the premise is strong, its execution struggles with tonal consistency. Comedy, intended a…

Mashle is basically a Harry Potter parody. It doesn’t entirely start out as one, but it feels like whenever the mangaka was out of ideas he lifted something from HP and thus as the season progresses it veers further and further in that direction. More specifically, this anime is basically set in the future of a world where the death eaters won and wizards took over the world and began oppressing those without magic. The protagonist, Mash, is born without magic and abandoned as a baby, but is picked up by a nice man who raises him secretly in the woods. Things go well until a police offer from the Bureau of Magic named Brad discovers Mash and tries to arrest him. However, Mash is able to complete crush him with just the powers of muscles. At this point, the officer from the Bureau offers h…

This anime is entertaining and just that. I would call it the Family Guy of anime, something you can watch because you enjoy anime but don’t really have to pay attention to because if you think too hard it falls apart. It’s like this anime was written by someone who was forced to watch anime for a week and then craft a story of their own after also watching the 1st Harry Potter movie. It burrows a lot if you want to call it that; though I feel when you burrow ideas you should build upon them in some way. This anime does none of that. Harry Potter, One Punch Man, Black Clover, One Piece are the titles I think of when i watched this show and everything that’s transplanted from these and forcibly add to this show is done very poorly. I vaguely remember this anime being touted as the next big…

tl;dr: Mashle is a refreshing take on a fantasy comedy, but it also has a problem of the characters not doing much. I did enjoy a good amount of this anime, but not enough to make me go crazy. Plot, AN ANIME THAT MAKES FUN OF HARRY POTTER???? I'm surprised that it took them this long before someone made a Harry Potter parody. But for being a comedy, I didn't laugh at many of the jokes, the jokes that I did laugh at were good though. Characters, the characters are cool I guess, I did warm up to them the more I watched them on their crazy adventures, but they are kind of pitiful at the start. Mash, while cool, and being a good twist on the op mc, I do NOT understand his love for cream puffs at all. Dot is fine, from a douche to a douche with a heart is cool and all, but I don't get his obs…

This anime is like a trendy burger joint. You go there, try the burger, and maybe even enjoy it. Then you go back to your usual favourites or look for something else, leaving it behind. There's just nothing memorable about it. It's a shounen that borrows elements from several popular titles within the genre\*, mixed with comedy. The general idea for the world and events seems inspired by *Harry Potter*, though the overall composition lacks originality. Worth watching? Probably not. Did I enjoy it? I can’t say I didn’t but just a bit. Should you watch it? The first episode should be enough to help you decide. The humour doesn’t evolve much as the series goes on. *Bleach, Naruto, OPM, JJK, MHA – of course, the tropes might have originated elsewhere; these are just the ones I personally rec…

To cut it short, don't take this anime to seriously, not even the show takes itself seriously. It's funny, it's comfy, good animation and a nice cast of characters. Mashle clearly runs on the fact that it's a parody of Harry Potter, with more than a handful of references to the popular movies. Mash is a super strong character with the brain size of a peanut outside of combat, the jokes are funny to a point of having a nice smile here and there, you're not gunna be laughing your ass off to this one so don't expect much, but it's a comfy Shonen anime. The pacing is good and the plot is interesting enough to watch it through to the end, characters are also likeable and have their own little witty personalities to go along with their presence. A final point to the plot, I found it interestin…

It's fine. The anime starts off with a strong hook with pretty funny running gags (opening doors horizontally, cream puffs) that last throughout the entire series while still being funny, the scenes transition from being serious to funny very smoothly, the characters are some of the most likeable and genuinely well written I've ever seen, the fight scenes are always very satisfying to watch, and the animation is simple but works really well with the theme of the anime. What I don't like is how Mashle the MC never really grows as a character. Sure, he faces his fair share of challenges and issues, but he generally stays the same how he is throughout the entire series. Another issue is that there isn't really any arcs throughout the season. A story starts at the beginning of the episode, and…

Parody is very hard to define for me, and whilst Mashle is something I would probably define as a parody - its not very good at it. To be a good parody (in my opinion), you need to add something to the content and provide some kind of commentary. Mashle is just exactly what it is spoofing. It doesn't deconstruct common tropes or make fun of anything in a meta way - it just *is* One Punch Man in Hogwarts with a Black Clover plotline, so what? For one, none of the things that it 'parodies' are related at all, which makes finding common ground to spoof a monumental task (which it just gives up on at some point). And the plot and world of Mashle is just derivative and really, really uninteresting. It's not necessarily *bad*, like, it makes sense, and can be mildly entertaining at times - but…

It is quite meh. It is heavily influenced by Black clover and Harry Potter. The anime feels more like: What if Harry Potter went to Hogwarts while having no magic and sovling everything with his fists. It was amusing to me how bad the anime is. The characters are plain and their is no character development. The side characters and enemies all have something againt Mashle or against people who are less then them and then after being saved by him or getting a beating they flip their coin and turn into good guys who accept people for who they are. Noticed no one mentioned the Harry Potter stuff in their reviews so i gues i will say it. Castle is hogwartz. Lemon is Hermoine/Ginnie. Mash is Harry Dot is Ron, Finn is Neville or the other way around. Headmaster is Dumbledore The blonde guy Claud…
