The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten

Introduction

Mahiru Shiina is worthy of her nickname "Angel": she is a divine beauty loved by all, and she excels in both academics and athletics. Shiina lives in an entirely different world from Amane Fujimiya, her next-door neighbor. Despite living so close together, they have never spoken once. But their silence is broken when Fujimiya spots Shiina gloomily sitting on a swing amidst a heavy rainstorm and lends her his umbrella. When Fujimiya catches a cold the next day, Shiina wishes to return the favor for the umbrella by nursing him back to health. Believing that this would be their first and last interaction, he silently appreciates her kindness. However, Shiina—who cannot help but worry about Fujimiya's lack of tidiness and proper nutrition—begins to cook and clean for him. As the unlikely pair spend time together in Fujimiya's apartment, they explore the true nature of their relationship and the gentle emotions that emerge from it. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten was always a series that I was somewhat hesitant to watch. It was not necessarily because I dislike wholesome, comfy slice-of-life romances... I actually like that kind of genre a lot. It was more because I have seen so many wish-fulfillment romances about an average protagonist getting together with the most popular girl in class, and I was afraid the typical cliches of those would affect this series. Unfortunately, while I did kind of like the series, my initial worry did kind of come to fruition. I definitely do not think this is a bad series by any means. As long as you remove the extreme emphasis on how the main girl is supposedly the most popular girl at school and is nicknamed “the Angel” (something I think the anime and especially LN get annoy…

A satisfyingly kind treatment of the romance genre. It would not be unusual to find Angel Next Door under the definition of Romance in a hypothetical dictionary so peculiarly interested in documenting anime genres. Angel Next Door is strong also because it successfully discards the reliance on comedy and substantial drama as supplemental tools of entertainment. This is, however, both to its benefit and detriment. The story is well-written because it is a believable romance, and for the first half of the episodes it is nothing but. There is no defining moment where the romance blossoms, yet at the same time completely believable that between the first episode and the last, a romance did indeed blossom. It creeps up so surreptitously as to be a delight. However, there is a scant feeling th…

I usually enjoy romance anime, including slow-burn and wholesome relationship-focused stories, so I went into The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten with fairly reasonable expectations. Unfortunately, this series ended up being one of the most disappointing romance anime I've watched. Story (2/10) Is the story unique? Not really. The premise is extremely familiar: a lonely boy, a perfect girl next door, and a relationship that slowly develops through everyday interactions. There's nothing inherently wrong with a predictable setup, since many romance anime use common tropes and still manage to be entertaining. The problem is that this series doesn't do much with its premise. Most developments feel obvious long before they happen, and the story rarely takes risks or introduces meaningful co…

you think a romance anime with nearly 0 conflict wouldn't work. but it does. the progression between the 2 mc's feel natural. although this anime hits all the cliche tropes, the pacing is surprisingly good. no episode feels rushed or redundant. and the tone is constant. i have to admit, after watching, i don't remember anything specific that happened in this anime. but his doesn't mean it's a forgettable series. i do remember how it makes me feel - super warm and fuzzy inside. it's like that one ice cream place you went to when you were a kid. you don't necessarily remember the specific taste of their specialty gelato. but you do remember how happy you were when eating it. this about sums up this anime perfectly. it's not something you watch for the plot. it's something you watch because…

Angel Next Dorr - easily 3rd favorite romance anime. Yeah, it's predictable and slow af at times. Some episodes are straight naptime material. But Mahiru? She carries the entire show on her back. One of the best romances I've seen. If you like cozy, character-driven stuff, watch it. If you need action or fast pacing, don't. Story aint unique. Its typical loner guy + perfect girl next door. Predictable af but I still enjoyed cuz I love this slow domestic shit. Art style fits - soft colors, nothing flashy. Good for naptime vibes Characters? Mahiru not just perfect - shes emotionaly dumb, cant ask for help, guarded. Amane is pathetic at first but grows. Both have flaws. Their reactions feel real, no anime screaming. Realistic for awkward teens Who will like this? People who enjoy slow cozy…

Otonari no Tenshi-sama (2023) is a cozy anime, perfect to binge over a weekend when there is nothing better to do. Its atmosphere, pacing, and music feel like a small emotional comfort. From the very beginning, its premise presents an extremely idealized situation: an apathetic and somewhat depressed boy develops a relationship with the most beautiful girl in school, who also ends up helping him with household chores. Almost like a de facto wife. I do appreciate that the protagonists seem aware that they are living in a very privileged situation. They are teenagers living alone in apartments with up to three rooms (and in Japan, no less—one of the most expensive countries to live in). That said, this is not the kind of story that explores the rougher aspects of being in a relationship,…

If you have ever experienced a single shred of genuine human connection, "The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten" will feel less like a romance and more like a psychological lobotomy. This isn't a story; it is a meticulously crafted simulation designed to cater to the lowest form of "lonely-boy" wish-fulfillment, stripping away everything that makes human relationships interesting: conflict, personality, and reality. 1. The Protagonist: A Cardboard Cutout Our lead is the quintessential "blank slate." He has no defining traits, no drive, and no personality other than being a "lonely, messy guy." He doesn't earn anything. He is a "log" in every sense of the word. He is rewarded with a goddess-tier domestic servant simply for existing and performing the monumental feat of sharing an umbrella o…

The absolute best romance anime ever. Takes a spin on the generic trope of popular girl and lone boy by actually develop their relationship bit by bit rather than confuse and some random confession. It has no love triangle an some of the best supporting cast. Every episode left you kicking your feet and scene that make you feel a fury of emotion. The led up and development of the relationship is a slow burn leaving you for more and makes anyone wishing to be in the situation. I 100% recommend this romance anime for anyone. The mc and fmc were some of the best in romance anime and supporting cast add comedic element a states what you want to say to the mc and fmc.

Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken is a romantic comedy that stands out for its cozy atmosphere and the gradual and careful construction of the main relationship. The chemistry between the main characters is one of the work's greatest strengths, with charismatic, natural interactions full of small moments that make the relationship believable and engaging. The light and comforting atmosphere is constant throughout the season. It's the perfect kind of anime to watch leisurely, either to relax after a tiring day or to marathon, as each episode leaves you with a pleasant feeling. The humor follows the same line: simple, everyday and well-dosed, without exaggeration or forced situations. Another very positive point is the emotional development of the characte…

I really liked this one. Maybe because I was in the passenger seat on a 7-hour road trip, and I had nothing better to do than to finish this anime in one sitting, but I enjoyed it immensely. The slow-burn romance between the two leads is at times both realistic and a fantasy. It reminds any adult viewer of the typical teenage insecurities we all used to feel, and the inability to truly communicate your feelings to the people around you. Still though, Mahiru and Amane get each other on a deep level, and while the romance may be predictable to some, that does not make it any less sweet or heartfelt. I highly recommend this as a binge-worthy romance despite its lack of twists and turns, as a grounded look at adolescent romance and coming-of-age.

I almost said "Mixed Feelings" on this - not because mine are mixed (they most definitely are not!) but because I recognize that the audience for this is not universal, and those who are not the target audience might find it dull or uninteresting. Since the target audience IS quite clear, we'll go with Recommended - for fans of this particular genera. Now, why do I think this story is so very - even amazingly - well done within its genera? First, it has the almost unique property of weaving a beautiful story that does not rely on crudeness, lowbrow juvenile humor, miscommunication, misunderstanding, love triangles, bad actors trying to interfere, or any of the other mechanisms that are so common in these types of stories. Both leads are capable of talking about issues calmly and rational…

Forced myself to finish this anime since I've made a vow to not drop any anime unless fully necessary. This show tested my willpower. The premise is stupid at best. There is basically no animation. I would have been able to enjoy this anime if the characters were at least somewhat realistic or relatable. The characters are incredibly bland and half the show is just them talking on a couch doing the same flirting over and over again without anything progressing. They hardly try relating to each other or understanding each other. There was no attempt at making us empathize, relate, or even understand any character. Truly a waste of time.

I almost skipped "The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten" based on the generic title, but this turned out to be one of the most genuine romance anime I've watched in years. What makes it special is how real the characters feel. Mahiru isn't just "perfect girl" - she's lonely and insecure behind her flawless facade. Amane actually grows as a person instead of staying a dense protagonist. Their relationship develops naturally without forced drama or stupid misunderstandings. The show focuses on two damaged people slowly learning to care for each other and themselves. Mahiru teaching Amane basic life skills while he helps her experience simple joys feels incredibly authentic. The quiet emotional moments hit harder than any dramatic confession scene. If you're tired of shallow romance anime, thi…

My favorite romantic anime. I really wish I could find someone who would love me from the bottom of her heart, just like in this story. This anime touched me in a very personal way because the emotions between the characters feel real and heartfelt. The way their relationship grows step by step makes you feel connected to them, and you start to imagine yourself in their place. The animation is also very good. It’s clean, colorful, and full of little details that bring the story to life. The character designs are appealing and match their personalities perfectly. I especially liked how each character had their own charm, which made the whole anime more enjoyable. I have already watched this anime twice in a row, and I could happily watch it again. For me, it is one of the best romantic st…

Pure diabetes. The amount of wholesomeness and sweetness this show gives is just on another level, I can't stop smiling already! Sweet and sugary romance anime are a dime of dozen, it's slow-burn but it was well executed. Amane and Mahiru start off as strangers, but they gradually open up and understand each other as the series progress. It's also refreshing to see how the couple develop feelings for each other naturally and organically without having to rely on clichéd tropes or manufactured drama that you'd expect in other shows. There aren't a lot of secondary characters here but they do have a crucial role, especially the side couple who I also find cute and it's nice that they just support the main characters so there's no love triangle/harem or any third-wheel characters here. Voi…

I really don't recommend it, first of all I am a connoisseur of romantic comedy anime with a ratio of 70% comedy and 30% romance, this anime is the opposite, 30% comedy and 70% romance, or maybe 80% bored and sleepy, 10% romance and 10% comedy too, somehow this anime is a bit sleepy, and less expressive, and especially the thing I dislike the most is that they hide their relationship from their schoolmates, only family and close friends know about their relationship, so here there is a huge element of dissatisfaction that makes this anime bad in my opinion. and of course the extreme lack of FanService... while a good element of satisfaction is when the world finds out the idol girl's relationship turns out to be dating an NPC, another thing that is not interesting is that both the MC and…

Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken or The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten was an anime I wasn't that big a fan of at first, actually that's putting it lightly, I thought it was little bit boring and bland though probably not a bad watch and still gave it a 7/10 and moved on since I figured that it just wasn't to my tastes since people seemed to like it. Here I am, 2 years later I re watched it and decided it needs a review because I think I misjudged this show my first time watching it and better understand it with a second go. I would highly recommend watching this show with a open mind, or without any ideas or assumptions of what kind of show it is beforehand to get a better grasp of the characters the first time watching it. At first glance this show…

This is one of the most generic shows I have seen in while -- with boring art work, low-effort character designs, zero-effort NPC side characters, poor writing, awkward forced "moments" and lackluster boilerplate music. Nearly the entire show takes place in what might as well be a prison cell, a drab beige apartment with no decorations or anything visually interesting, stimulating or appealing. If you watched this back to back with a season of Monogatari, it would be like going from a dazzling feature film to an animated stick-figure drawing with cliché music. If I can say something nice about it, the show is generally sweet, inoffensive and doesn't get distracted with lame side-plots or overly melodramatic back stories... those are mere throwaways. It does stick to the main romance story,…

Who doesn't love a good romance? Sweet and fun, feel-good series! A bit of a slow-burn maybe, but a really well executed one at that. If you're looking for diabetes you've come to the right place! The couple dynamics are great, the characters feel like real people and even the secondary characters are endearing and fun. And for once many of the usual tropes of this genre have a reason to be. The only faults I can find is the animation quality (and maybe the OP), but it's character-focused narrative so it really doesn't ruin how good this anime is. Definitively recommended if you like love stories!

72/100 MAHIRU-CHAN! From the director who gave us Steins;Gate and Nana, you’d expect something at least competent, and The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten mostly delivers on that front. The story? It’s a predictable one, no question, boy meets girl, they’re polar opposites, etc. But if you’re into this genre, that’s part of the appeal. It’s formulaic, yes, but there’s something oddly satisfying about watching the formula executed well. The art is clean and works well with the tone, though don’t expect any real visual flair. The character designs are pleasant, and they help sell the central dynamic between Amane and Mahiru. Speaking of which, the characters themselves aren’t anything groundbreaking. Mahiru plays the tsundere role with a bit of depth, and Amane’s kind of an oblivious, we…
