My Hero Academia

Introduction

The appearance of "quirks," newly discovered super powers, has been steadily increasing over the years, with 80 percent of humanity possessing various abilities from manipulation of elements to shapeshifting. This leaves the remainder of the world completely powerless, and Izuku Midoriya is one such individual. Since he was a child, the ambitious middle schooler has wanted nothing more than to be a hero. Izuku's unfair fate leaves him admiring heroes and taking notes on them whenever he can. But it seems that his persistence has borne some fruit: Izuku meets the number one hero and his personal idol, All Might. All Might's quirk is a unique ability that can be inherited, and he has chosen Izuku to be his successor! Enduring many months of grueling training, Izuku enrolls in UA High, a prestigious high school famous for its excellent hero training program, and this year's freshmen look especially promising. With his bizarre but talented classmates and the looming threat of a villainous organization, Izuku will soon learn what it really means to be a hero. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Having been anime I personally started with, this season holds a special place in my heart. Although simple, it sets a great foundation for the whole story and introduces the characters in an interesting and engaging way. At no point was I bored while watching this series, and even having been critical of anime going into it, I came out of the first season with a desire to watch more anime. Many people will tell you that MHA is cringe and not worth watching, but I honestly think 90% of those who say that haven't watched it at all. This show is 120% worth watching and a great anime to start with.

This was one of the first animes I ever watched so for that it'll always hold a special place in my heart. I've had mixed feelings about it over the years but recently rewatching it I can safely say I like it. I'll admit it's not the most unique outside of the quirks when it comes to superhero media. Many scenes I once thought were eerie or emotional feel flat now, and overall the story gives a bit of a childish vibe more akin to a shonen for very young boys. However, My Hero does have it's moments, and it's very good at fleshing out a large amount of characters. Pretty sure I still have all of class 1-A's names and quirks memorized. It's a silly anime (personally I recommend the english dub it's so funny) that's good for watching with friends and nice for beginners getting into anime.

With my hero academia's reputation i expected a lot worse, but season one is very well made for the cliche's it is. As stereotypical as the entire anime is, it is honestly a fresh breath of air amongst other very heavy hitting animes. It handles its topics with care, and has a great flow with a great cast of character dynamics. Even if the most popular ones arent your favourite, your favourite side character will still get decent attention compared to other animes. My hero academia handles heroism in a stereotypical, but empowering and motivating way to the point you cant stop yourself from admiring some of the heroes (cough cough all might!) i can't speak for the manga, but the anime has a very catching flow that will likely make you binge it if you're interested in the series! BUT!…

Mineta’s character is unnecessary. The whole sexualization of teenagers throws me off. It’s also annoying that the girls don’t have as interesting quirks as the males, or if they do, they’re downgraded – yes, I’m talking about Yaomomo. Maybe Izuku is like a fresh MC during the anime’s release, a weak guy with big dreams despite having odds stacked at him. But boy, I don’t like how he sticks around for Bakugo. That’s his bully. Where does he get his unlimited patience and kindness for that boy? Add to the fact that he’s also kinda cringe. Anyway, I watched this because my brother nagged me to it.

I’ve always held *Heroic Academy* in high regard; in the race for the new “Big Three,” I’ve ranked it among the top three. The author took Marvel’s superhero concept and gave it a very distinct Japanese twist. It seems like such a simple idea, but it has enormous potential. And the author managed to fully realize it. The main character is just a little bit annoying, but his journey from a whiner to a hero is, at the very least, interesting to watch. He analyzes and understands his weaknesses well. Everything we love about anime—school tropes, parent-child relationships, and tournament arcs—is here. As for the first season specifically, the 13 episodes flew by in a single sitting. The pacing is spot-on; the first season feels like a big teaser, the first chapter, and that’s wonderful. Uniqu…

MHA S1 is an entertaining, albeit very typical shonen seeason. I finally bit into the cultural phenomenon of MHA - although not as significant as others like One Piece, I decided to give this series a go at my girlfriend's behest. As someone who is relatively new to anime, this series confirmed that perhaps shonen titles simply aren't for me. I love deep, dark, psychological themes, and at the start I did think that the show showed promise: we have a typical underdog story with larger than life characters. The writing was decent, but focused more on moving the plot along as opposed to deep introspection and worldbuilding. I did have some fun watching MHA, but when the plot shifted towards a multi-episode battle, I lost some interest. I do wish that the battle focused more on creative wa…

This is a review made after completing all 8 seasons for those wondering if they should start My Hero Academia. I will try to be brief. If this is your first shonen and/or you are a teenager (target demographic) MHA might be enjoyable for you. It's accessible, it's fun, it's fairly straightforward and easy to understand, it's animated well, and generally checks all base expectations for quality. If you are an avid anime consumer, or generally critical of the content you take in, so much that you even check reviews before picking up a series, this series might not be for you. Seeing as this a platform generally for active anime watchers, I've marked my review as not recommended, because personally I would not recommend this to most watchers, at least not over many other series of equal o…

I watched it when it first came out, and the idea of a superhero anime seemed really cool to me. The first few episodes portray Midoriya as a coward but with determination, making you want him to achieve his dream. And when they introduce All Might, he seems like the best superhero. Most of the episodes are enjoyable, and you want to see more, especially about the powers of the other characters and how they use them. Although we don't see much of the pros, it's clear there's a difference between the students and them, which is why they need to learn how to use their powers. I feel the ending is quite good, especially the final fight. Although I expected Midoriya to do a bit more, I feel he did enough to stand out. I liked that they hinted at a continuation, which makes you look forward…

To be honest, this season was a little better than I remembered, the way the characters are built based on difficult situations was probably one of the best things. The way the characters' relationships are established also feels quite genuine, and although for the first season it was quite good. Although honestly, it doesn't stray from the classic shonen that has been done a thousand times, the main villains only appear once and their appearance is actually intimidating but feels brief. Top 3 Episodes 1._ All Might (1x12) (8.9) 2._ Deku vs. Kacchan (1x07) (8.4) 3._ Game Over (1x11) (8.3) HM: Yeah, Just Do You Best, Iida (1x09), Start Line (1x04), Rage, You Damn Nerd (1x06) Top 3 Lowest Episodes 1._ Bakugo's Start Line (1x08) (7.1) 2._ Izuku Midoriya: Origin (1x01) (7.3) 3._ Roaring M…

MHA is pretty good, nothing crazy but good. It feels like everything the show was trying to do it did competently, but not impressively. The biggest weakness of the season is the characters as there are simply too many. They probably get more to do over the rest of the show, but in that case they should have been saved until then. Introducing them now just feels like the writers showing off all their cool powers without factoring in pacing. Of the characters that do get focus, All Might is definitely the best but I'm not a huge fan of Deku. He's ok but his characterization just feels erratic, like he's only as cowardly or courageous as the situation demands. His awful dub voice doesn't help matters. The worldbuilding could have used a bit more work, like it's stated that 80% of the popul…

MHA is like a plate of french fries (Yes I am American) Looking back on this one with sone slight rose tinted glasses. My Hero Academia is much better then people give it credit for. Is it ground breaking? Absolutely not, but the show does what a Shonen needs to do very well. A down on his luck protagonist who just wants to do his best and live up to his role models, a cast of characters who are at times rather 1 dimensional caricatures, but in spite of this the characters still feel likeable even if the story doesn't spend any time truly elaborating on their motivations and emotions (and even when it does I would argue it doesn't do enough to truly resolve them) The animation is also very good, especially for the time where high quality shonen animation really wasn't nearly as common…

My Hero Academia starts off slow but as with many shows, a slow start is to be expected. The groundwork is set though for the rest of the series which improves and expands upon the ideas set in this first season. The fight with All Might at the end of the season is definitely the highlight for me. The other fights were fine. Definitely not My hero's best. I like the introduction of the characters though and all their fun interactions. We get some class time together instead of just focusing on the story which I will say the later seasons definitely don't delve into class interactions that much so it's nice to see it here. The adaptation is great. It's not as good as the other seasons but this season was meant to lay the groundwork. It has great atmospheric shots, and the character models…

This was honestly an anime I didn’t want to touch at first. Everywhere I looked, there were spoilers. And when a few people told me it was “boring” or “not that good,” I was even less motivated to start it. But when I finally gave it a chance, I was pleasantly surprised. The animation is gorgeous (and trust me, I’m a huge critic when it comes to animation), the character relationships are so well‑built, and the overall story is just… perfect. It’s original, emotional, and full of moments that hit way harder than you expect. Sure, some people say it gets “boring” at times, but honestly? Even during the slower parts, I kept looking forward to the next episode. And the sequels? I was hyped every single time.

I wrote this review after completing the entire anime and i came here to say, it's worth it. In terms of quality , it has its ups and downs, but i'd say if you're a person of patience or atleast have an interest in watching an incredible superhero story, this almost rivals that of the famous ones around the world such as Superman, Batman, Spiderman and Marvel, you must watch this. I want you not to give up watching this at any point, for any reason that people complain ( the main character is too plain, there's too many flashbacks, there's plot holes , mineta should die, too many unnecessary characters, corny dialogue, ...and so on that are commonly known ) ignoring all this, there's beautiful moments that gives you goosebumps , tears, motivation ,and incredible animation that keeps you on…

Just an anime that glorifies bullying and being unkind. a weak pathetic MC who does nothing to help resolve the feelings you get when watching the anime. and an overall dystopian world with no morals or principles, just bland. The author put a little too much personal representation, in how you can tell he keeps rewarding the bullies and the jerks who i am guessing matches his own persona. watched it several years prior once, as a child. liked it well enough to watch first 4-5 seasons before moving on. As an adult unable to go beyond first 5 mins of the 1st episode. thats how cringe and sad it is. especially when you know that all the bullying and spite and hatred simply gets rewarded later on as opposed to being looked down upon or any kind of punishment whatsoever. Deku is simply the a…

This is the worst show I've ever seen in my entire life, if you're trying to find a show to watch, and have a brain, choose something else. The main character is completely unbearable and the author tries to make him fit a role that doesn't fit his character in any way whatsoever, and his power never stays consistent, a very good sign that the writer has no idea what they're doing at all, and don't care to. Whoever decided it was a good idea to give the author of this shitshow a pen and paper must have been on crack or meth because this is a war crime. There is no redeeming qualities from this show, just don't waste your time.

Great start. Deku’s a likeable lead, though I wasn’t totally sold on his dynamic with Bakugo, like just ignore that raging bully fool already. s7 has changed my mind (writing this after that), but yeah, in season 1 it didn’t fully click for me. All Might won me over fast though, and Deku’s childhood scenes are really well done. The final battle against Nomu is awesome. Overall, a great season, just not a very memorable one. I really like the whole quirk setup and how naturally the comedy fits in. Eraser Head’s introduction was another highlight. Honestly can’t believe I had to stretch this to 500 characters, shame on me haha.

I remember watching this with my aiblings when it was new. Safe to say, we didn't continue to show. It wasn't that interesting to me. It was just average. Not enough for me to drop the show, but I also didn't care to continue watching or keep up with it. Saw some cool panels of the manga, but I ultimately didn't care to invest in this series. It wasn't that the plot of characters were bad, I was simply not invested in their character or story. From what I saw on Twitter, the manga had a set of really good chapters. However, it's not interesting enough for me to read 300+ chapters and watch all seasons. Plus, it didn't have a conclusion that I liked, so meh.

Season one of My Hero Academia was such a great starting point for this series. It's only 13 episodes long, so in a lot of respects, it's more of an extended prologue, but that works really well. The show does a good balance of creating the world of quirks and heroes and focusing on Midoriya's progression from helpless to inheriting All Might's ability. I totally sympathized with him in those early episodes when he was struggling to get into U.A., and I liked how determined he was not to quit, even when all hope seemed lost. His interactions with All Might are undeniably the emotional core of the season. All Might is that archetypal Superman-type, this larger-than-life character who everybody looks up to, but what's really interesting about him is how grounded and human he is when you get…

As my first anime ever, this was the perfect starter. The story is exciting and easy to follow, even if some parts are a bit predictable, and I still loved it because I enjoy this kind of hero story. The power system is cool and well explained, making every fight fun and interesting. The characters feel real—they have strengths and flaws, and their reactions to events make sense. The bond between the main cast feels natural, which makes you care about their growth. The art style fits the story perfectly, and the animation is stunning. The openings and OSTs are also amazing. I think anyone who likes action and hero stories will enjoy this series, even if they aren’t usually into anime.
