Summary of my thoughts on this series: Frustrating and frankly just annoying to watch.
>Multiple episodes dedicated to a live triangle with a character that exists only to intrude on our MCs.
>>on top of this, the main characters both just go along with him.
>Multiple instances of conversations getting cut off at very convenient points
>drama bait out the ass because of the above 2 points
Writing like this is extremely lazy. It's not writing that makes a story good, interesting or natural. It's writing that's created for nothing but engagement bait to keep you reading or watching.
Overall, it's trash. There's a million and one better romance anime and manga out there, don't waste your time. The only reason it's not rated lower is because the last episode is mostly fine.

The story isn’t particularly deep or unique, and some events feel random or without much explanation. But honestly, that’s part of the charm — it doesn't try to be logical or serious. If you enjoy light comedy with hints of romance, this series delivers just that.
The characters are fun to watch, though not always well-developed. They can feel exaggerated or overly quirky, but that fits the overall tone. Don’t expect deep emotional arcs or complex character growth — instead, just go along for the ride and enjoy the humor.
The art style matches the light-hearted nature of the story. It’s clean and expressive, which helps highlight the comedy and emotional beats, even if they’re simple.
It’s worth mentioning that the series faced difficulties due to the author’s health issues, which might ex…

Short Review - A Cozy Watch with a Slice of Comfort.
Personal stats: as of May 2025, I've
finished 161 animes with a mean score of 7.31.
Recovery of an MMO Junkie rating: 7/10.
Recovery of an MMO Junkie is a wholesome, feel-good anime that quietly heals you. It's a mix of light romance, slice-of-life and gaming, told through the eyes of a female lead who’s dealing with everyday awkwardness and emotional burnout in her own way.
The romance is soft and passive, which makes it feel surprisingly real and comforting. The show also includes funny and slightly embarrassing moments from the main character’s life — especially relatable for women, though it’s just as enjoyable for male viewers thanks to the charming supporting cast.
It’s not the most complex story, but it doesn’t try to be. Ins…

I stumbled upon Net-juu no Susume at a time when I was kind of burned out from the usual high school romance tropes. You know how it goes—teenagers falling in love over summer festivals, blushing under sakura trees, yada yada. Not that I hate those, but after a while, I just wanted something that spoke a little more to where I am in life.
A 30-year-old woman moriko who quits her job and becomes a NEET? Honestly? Relatable AF. I mean, how many of us have had that dream—even just once—of just walking away from the endless grind, booting up a comfy game, and losing ourselves in a world where no one expects you to fill out spreadsheets or answer emails? Watching Moriko take that leap felt weirdly liberating. Like, yes girl, unplug and log in.
The story isn't complicated, and that's kind of i…

Bit of a rollercoaster, since the first few eps are good, the middle part is borderline unbearable at times and the last few eps are nice. Really hated the usual tropes like huge misunderstandings and keeping secrets from each other that prolongs the story in an artificial way, these got really annoying in the middle of the series that is already pretty short with 10 eps + 1 OVA.
I'd say it's easy to get attached to the 2 MCs and the side characters fulfill their (not so meaningful) purpose. But it's very striking that the MCs are unrealistic in a sense that they're being sold as shy gamers, one of them is even a neet, yet they're visualized like Mr. and Mrs. Charming. Morioka is the bigger offender ot the two, she's being misrepresented big time, the usual pretty and shy anime girl given…

This anime was cute, sweet, and a fun rom-com that mostly did what it set out to do. It was also cliched and had an unsatisfying ending.
We follow Moriko on her quest to become a NEET. She deliberately left the corporate world and decided to get into gaming, for some reason we're never explicitly told. She meets lots of people in the game, and through loads of coincidences, loads of remarkable coincidences that would be nearly impossible in real life, well... that's the plot.
And that's also, in my opinion, its greatest weakness. But it's a weakness shared by most anime of this genre. I think it's a weakness that the plot almost demands, because it would be boring otherwise.
This anime's greatest strength is its characters. There's not a boring, stupid, or cliched one in the bunch. The…

Net-juu no Susume is a cute, snappily directed romantic comedy with characters that – rare for this genre – aren't incompetent, can figure things out, and promptly confront and deal with misunderstanding. The story and its central pairing are cohesively laid out in 10 episodes, and Net-juu no Susume does not drag its feet: each episode immediately kicking off with the series opening is symbolic of that. The main protagonist and NEET-by-choice Moriko Morioka is endearing, and while the overall setup of a romance bubbling from a happenstance real-life encounter between two close online friends seems a little out there, the series' characters respond realistically to events without devolving into mayhem. It's great to see characters in a rom-com that can be both awkward but also understanding…

I watched Net-juu no Susume, also known as Recovery of an MMO Junkie or Recommendation of the Wonderful Virtual Life. Here are my thoughts:
In terms of the writing, the characters are a strong point – they are likable and often relatable, particularly the MC (Moriko). However, the plot is cliche and predictable. I don't want to be too harsh on the plot though because it set up a ton of situational comedy and was a fertile source of humour in general. Regardless of the story, the script itself is overall well done; I thought they totally nailed it during some scenes, and it was further enhanced by the voice acting. The dialogue was often funny too. I enjoyed the humour in this a lot, and the script and its delivery was a major component of that. I laughed out loud at every episode.

Yo this was gonna be a 7/10 romance anime. But damn that opening music and animation was a MUST WATCH every episode. So +1 pt. For that. It was cute overall. Nothing to crazy. I struggle to enjoy characters who don’t know how to speak up for themselves. Moriko has the lowest self confidence ever. The ending was really sweat. Tbh the story was predictable tho. So just don’t guess how you think it will end 😂😂. The art is solid. Pretty sharp. Beautiful animation of the characters in the game. Weirdly enough I enjoyed high they did the street background lighting in a lot of scenes. Sakura is a puss. Makes you feel like he should be in 8th grade. Not 28. But it’s also cutely innocent. Ig Moriko gets some grace, Sakura does not.

I get it, Recovery of an MMO Junkie is cute and all, but is that really enough to overlook the generic and cliched writing? The conflict is entirely caused by misunderstandings. The characters are shallow and the protagonist is an unrealistic interpretation of a NEET.
Moriko Morioka is a 30-something business dropout who has chosen to become a self-proclaimed "NEET" and plays games all day instead of working. Why did she choose this life? She felt like it, despite being good at her job she opted to throw it away playing video games instead… Don’t expect to understand what motivates the characters because their only reason for existing is to be cute.
Moriko enters the MMO game and chooses to play as a male character, why? Because she wanted to. A potentially interesting start to the prota…

Recovery of an MMO Junkie is a wholesome, funny anime that's a joy to watch from start to finish. Beginning with the story, I have to say it's simply great. The classic 'romcom mixup' framework they went with here comes off flawlessly, and provides the viewer with seamless plot development. All the jokes land and manage to avoid sounding cringy, which is a definite risk for an anime dealing with video games. Not to mention that the setup is adorable in the extreme! Also everything happened the way it felt it was supposed to happen, all while keeping me on my toes. I was fully invested, but in a way that was relaxing and fun to watch. It even threw a few genuine curveballs my way, which I was not expecting from this show to say the least, since you know the main 'twist' from the very start.…

Net-juu no Susume was fun at first, the best part overall was the whole group they had, I really loved their interactions in the game, and as I progressed I expected more interactions with the characters in real life, that is when I got disappointed, these characters that I liked as a group were reduced to being background characters, I was really expecting everyone to meet IRL, sadly this was just another love story, it didn't meet my expectations but 7 is my overall score since I enjoyed the characters, music, and the first parts of the story, the character development ain't bad too.

This show was a very refreshing romance anime. There weren't a lot of tropes or offensive portrayals of women, which is unfortunately very rare. The two main characters form a very sweet, organic connection online and eventually in real life. I found the characters very relatable in that they struggled to connect in real life and had a much easier time online. Making friends and forming relationships in the real world is really hard and the show portrays a relationship that doesn't feel unattainable or unrelatable.
I think one thing that stands out to me is that they do not fall victim to a patronizing tone/portrayal of the "MMO Junkie," Morioka . IMO, she has good reason to feel burnt out. IS this an in depth analysis of corporate world and the pressures faced to workers, especially wom…

I enjoyed this more than I should. Maybe it's because I'm getting older and silly stories like this easily touch my heartstrings, but I would highly recommend this show... if you're ok with it being a piece of fiction.
I find it a bit disheartening, but I've been seeing people write scathing reviews on shows that moved me and left me feeling happier for watching them. Collectively they voice that these shows are bad because it's unrealistic. I agree. There are many times in this show that even the characters wonder if "coincidences like this can really happen?"
The wonderful and uplifting moments you see in this show might only exist in the fantasy of fiction, but I feel that there is nothing wrong with that. We play games online, read books, manga, etc.. to get away from reality. It's…

[Story] 3/10
If I explain the story with one word, it would be "misunderstandings". Moriko Morioka plays the game as a guy and not a female (no real reason why) but does not want anyone to know that she is a girl IRL. And Yuuta Sakurai plays the game with a female character. And that is practically it, the show continues after the first episode to just give out one misunderstanding after another. One part of me just wanted the misunderstandings to stop but if they did, the show would fall apart.
Also, there isn't any reason behind any of the characters' actions. They do something just because. For example, Moriko Morioka plays with a male character. Why? we don't know. Romance is banned by the guild leader. Is it because of some sad backstory? No, it just is banned.
[Character] 3/10

This anime was good. That's all I can really say about it.
The main characters were nice, but not complex. Similarly, the relationships were pretty nice. Nothing like A Silent Voice, but there was seemingly natural chemistry between the voice actors.
The story had an interesting take with it being from a girl's perspective primarily and based on MMO playing, but they integrated both the virtual and IRL worlds well.
Overall, I enjoyed this anime, but I would say that this is one best meant to put on and chill too rather than get super invested in.
This anime is similar to Bofuri in the sense that they integrate the virtual and real-world well; however, Bofuri mainly focusses on the character's experiences in-game. This anime focuses on the IRL character's experiences and uses the game…

Things to know:
I'm not a professional, just a fan.
No spoilers
My review doesn't follow the dumb MAL rating system. I just talk about what's good and bad
Grammatical errors are made (unless they're not then, ayyyy) Don't let this review sway you away from watching this show and vice versa

Ahhhhhh, god. This is a weird show, but its not too bad. I would say this show has a lot of downs, but a couple good ups. From the characters to the relationship, the show has some promise, but also confuses me.
The show really doesn't get good until the last half, because the first is just a bit of filler (or what felt like filler) for us to get to know the characters. This creates problems. I…

(Great Series But I Wish It Ended Differently!!)
This series was simple, touching, and overall I found it enjoyable and important since it touched on a couple topics that are seldom mentioned in media in general, but
the lack of a proper ending did this series no justice, it received no proper climax due to the declining mental health of the mangaka at the time I hear so in all reality it couldn't be helped, nevertheless there was indefinitely lost potential for what could have been a satisfying finish to a great anime.
If you're into anime that cover niche topics like social anxiety, otaku culture and the like then you'll love this anime. And if you prefer something with a less personal/relatable plot then this anime most likely isn't for you. Fans of anime's like Watamote, Lucky Star,…

the completionist approach to reviews—immersing oneself fully before passing judgment. It's the only way, really, to render a fair assessment of an anime's essence.
This NEET-centered romantic comedy—a concise and direct narrative—holds a distinct allure. It remarkably progresses the relationship arc between the core characters without diluting the essence with excessive fluff.
Admittedly, the portrayal of the protagonist's life as a NEET, lost in the realms of an MMO while finding romance, triggers a certain envy. Who wouldn't wish to experience such an escapade, though the pragmatist in me acknowledges the implausibility.
Despite this, living vicariously through such anime has its charm, allowing for a delightful escape into that realm. For anyone seeking a brief rendezvous with a ten…

So after watching it all in 2 days, I can safely say that I like it, and may even rewatch it some time again in the future. It was able to make me audibly laugh at my screen multiple times, the premise is pretty entertaining, some of the art is really pretty, there were some very clever shots in the final episode with heavy handed symbolism, and there was legitimate tension and suspense during a majority of the series.
However...
IT'S SO FUCKING FRUSTRATING! Most of the time I found myself yelling "YOU LITTLE BITCH" ALOT during most of the episodes! Like I get that romance short stories are meant to play with the idea that the big climax of the two main characters is just around the corner and that they MAY get together during each episode, BUT FOR FUCK SAKE!!! THIS WHOLE SERIES...would'…
