*Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun* has a fun and fairly unique premise: a girl confesses to her crush, only to become the assistant of a shoujo manga artist who has no understanding of romance himself. Its parody of shoujo manga clichés and Nozaki’s “mangaka brain” can be genuinely funny.
However, the story felt more episodic than progressive. After the first episode, it becomes much more focused on manga production, editors, and standalone character gags than on romance. The art style fits the light comedy tone well, and the cast is expressive, but most characters feel built around one recurring joke rather than becoming especially well-rounded.
Chiyo was my biggest issue. She starts as the heroine of what seems to be a romantic comedy, but she mostly becomes Nozaki’s assistant and source of m…

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is an anime I generally enjoyed. I really like the idea of taking shoujo manga clichés and turning them into a parody, and some of the jokes worked really well. The characters have fun dynamics, and the anime definitely manages to make you laugh.
However, as I kept watching, I started to find it quite static. I wasn't necessarily expecting any romantic development, because I think the series works perfectly fine without it, but there is very little development in general. The situations keep changing, but the characters and the story always seem to end up exactly where they started.
The premise is great, but there is basically no plot, so the anime ends up feeling more like a collection of funny situations and running gags than an actual story. Because of that, I…

This anime is light-hearted, cute, and hilarious. Especially Nozaki makes me laugh a lot. I also love that this series has queer undertones and the cast isn't really concerned about gender and hetero norms. I just don't like Mikorin very much, and I find him annoying, but it's just a pet peeve. This series doesn't really have a flaw by my standards; I just wish they had continued the show. The manga is still ongoing. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is highly likely to relieve your stress. Only if you are looking for a romance-focused series, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun might not be your cup of tea. It's a romcom, but the series is primarily focused on comedy.

This is honestly an anime that left me a bit disappointed 😕. As a romance lover, I went into it expecting something more emotional, more heart‑melting, more… romance. Instead, what I got was pure comedy chaos. And don’t get me wrong, I laughed a LOT. It’s a great break anime, the kind you watch when you just want to relax and genuinely laugh out loud. But in terms of romance? Yeah… not exactly what I hoped for. You’ll definitely find yourself getting annoyed at Nozaki, like, seriously, why is he the way he is. And you’ll constantly wonder why he and Sakura aren’t together yet, because the potential is right there in front of your face. But that’s part of the charm (and the frustration) of the show. The supporting characters absolutely carry the series. Mikoshiba with his goofy, awkward ch…

Chiyo Sakura crushes on fellow classmate, Umetarou Nozaki. When she finally musters the courage to approach him to suggest they spend time together, it's all /too easy/. He invites her to his place. Tonight. She accepts. When she gets there, she PANICS😲 (‘what /am/ I doing at a guy's place? Why did I come HERE without thinking?! ❕’). It's just him there. Parents are rarely seen in anime, leaving the impression that most kids live alone. Soon Sakura realizes: He's noticed her - her ART - that is, and he merely wants help putting out his monthly girl's romance manga. Nozaki.Writes.Romance.Manga… M😍E ❕ He's even better than Sakura imagined! Ironically, all her interactions with him went over his head. She'll have…

This is seriously such an underrated show. It is almost criminal that this show does not have more than 1 season, given that there are 16 Volumes (and ongoing as of this review) of source material to use. it is also regarded at a really good Manga. (Currently on Vol 4) :)
I love how it pokes fun at the genre/tropes that most other shows fall into while developing it's own story that also uses those same tropes.
The various reactions and facial expressions Sakura gives off are top tier, she is a great character. I would also be remiss if I did not give a shout-out to Seo, she had some of the funniest stories in the show and could ultimately have her own show.
Note to the Anime Industry - why not bring a classic like this back, i'm sure it would be well received by all the viewers.

Love this anime!!! It's a nice short love comedy watch you could binge on the weekends. The dub has HILARIOUS moments (I don't know about sub so try your chances). In my opinion, all the characters are likable maybe some more than others but all of them add to the show. :D
To sum it up: The show is about the main character, Chiyo Sakura has crush on Umetarou Nozaki and she tries to get him to like her by spending time with him and helping him write his shojou manga issues for the monthly magazines!!
Hopefully my summarization helped!!! It's totally worth watching!!

Somewhat, I remembered Wotakoi when I was watching this anime. To be direct, I think it shouldn't always be about romance and comedy in rom-com animes. This anime surely has a "romance" tag but it didn't really had much romance. Like, the characters just complete each other and the story goes on that way. Of course everyone had a potential partner. (not Mikorin :| ) But I suppose, the producer wanted to highlight otaku culture more. Manga drawing is everywhere and nearly everyone we meet gets involved with mangas. Drawings takes us back to 2000-2010 era of anime and manga publishing, which is really nostalgic. I did think that this might be the life of a manga drawer :D
Next is the VA's of course. They did a great job here. Some certain scenes needed really good performance at sounds and…

This series is alright. It does a fine enough job parodying shoujo, the production is good, and the comedy is fairly solid. With that said, it isn't perfect.
Beyond being a comedy, it doesn't really do much else. There's no real plot, the romance aspect remains stagnant, there's no character growth, and the school setting is there more so to get all the key characters together than anything else. With how the parents are basically nonexistent, the kids may as well have been adults living an everyday life.
The production side of things is probably the show's strongest point. It's well directed, visually consistent, and looks good from the beginning until the end. The sound design is also great.
Watch this if you want a quasi-shoujo parody.

This is my first MAL review but giving it a 10/10 for this being some of the funniest/most chaotic sh*t I've ever seen in anime, even on multiple re-watches.
It uses romance and romance anime tropes as a source of comedy but the best part of the show is the friendships and just watching the characters hang out. This show is not a romance anime or even a rom-com but an ensemble comedy about romance that's a lot more gag-based and has a lot of witty dialogue. I don't want to spoil the jokes or else it ruins it, but some of them deconstruct the archetypes and tropes you find in almost all romance anime and romance media in general, and some are definitely more character-based humour once you get a sense of who they are.
I do think most of the characters subvert their respective tropes in in…

Unlike Romantic Killer, this show actually is satire, and it took me months to realize that. I always thought this show was more funny than your usual anime romcom and I finally figured out why. Because it shits on the formula and actually writes good jokes. This anime is actually really damn funny. A lot of the protagonists of these shows are really dumb and misinterpretations happen all the time, it’s like the bread and butter of anime. But it’s the way the misinterpretations happen and how they are handled in this show which are so damn creative and funny. Like they’ll take the most absurd interpretation, then ramp it up to 11. Like having the prince pretty boy that all the girls love get embarrassed at the cringe shoujo dialogue he says. It’s the kind of show you can only understand if…

I actually watched Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun a few years ago, but I admit the show had largely faded from my memory, so I decided to watch it again, this time in English. So, does the show still hold up, even after all these years? Well, let's hop in and find out.
Story
The story of boy and girl falling in love has been done way too many times in anime, so Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun needed something to distinguish itself from its peers. The solution? Shoujo manga! No, seriously. This works.
It's fun watching Chiyo helping Nozaki with his manga, and also trying to make him notice her feelings towards him. The romantic subplot often takes a backseat to the complications and intricacies of writing a manga, but those elements never fail to be entertaining, as well. In fact, it's through the pro…

Both a great and difficult series. Great characters, mediocre romance & an ending that is meant to get you to go to the manga.
- Firstly, I marked mixed because it may not be to everyone's taste, as it's not necessarily a romance anime in the traditional sense. So think about that before starting the anime. -
It's hard to explain, this show doesn't do fan-service and dumb drama, but it fails at actually ending the arcs in the anime. This is entirely made to have the viewer go to the manga to finish the story, or have another season, but assuming this came out in 2014, and the fact that it is 2023 (as of writing), I assume this will not have a sequel, plus the fact the manga is still being made, makes me believe this is just an introduction into the manga to get people to read it.
Next, t…

An anime with a very good atmosphere, which parodies the shoujo genre, with a very good sense of humor. The characters are simple but lovable. Each couple has a great dynamic. I couldn't really say a favorite because I loved all of them equally. The beginning and the end are a little weak. Miyako-sensei was the only one I wasn't interested in, but luckily she didn't feature much. Even with today's eyes, the anime is beautiful and its colors suit it well. The opening wasn't bad, but I didn't like the ending. And the ost could have been better, so it was just forgettable. The seiyuu's did a very good job, especially the lead pair. It didn't really have a story, it was just a driving force, which was Nozaki's manga.
I'm sorry it wasn't continued because I really liked it. It could even end w…

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun was a wild anime from 2014.
The plot is about a girl, Chiyo, who has fallen in love with a mangaka by the name of Nozaki.
Chiyo got roped into doing beta for Nozaki's Manga and the rest is history. Gekkan Shojou Nozaki-Kun (I know, very catchy name. Flows right off the tongue) is a nice comedic romance anime. I liked it.
I might be spoiled, though. One anime ruined Romance Comedies for me. Kaguya-Sama. It is literally unfair to every single romance-comedy out there all because of Kaguya-Sama. Kaguya-Sama redefined the entire genre, and hell even redefined comedy as a whole.
It is unfair to compare this to Kaguya-Sama though. It is very unfair. Let us put aside Kaguya-sama for now.
For what it is, Gekkan was good. Solid Comedy. Solid Animation. Solid everythi…

Well, let me tell you about this "absolutely mind-blowing" anime called Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. The story is so original, it's about a high school girl who confesses her love to a boy, only to find out that he is actually a famous shoujo manga artist. I mean, who could have ever thought of something like that?
The style of the anime is just so bland and unremarkable, it's like watching paint dry. The characters are all just one-dimensional stereotypes, like the stoic artist, the oblivious protagonist, and the clueless editor. It's like the writers were trying to tick off all the cliches on a checklist.
Speaking of characters, let's talk about some of the main ones. Nozaki, the shoujo manga artist, is just so charismatic and interesting, with his completely blank expression and monotone…

An old friend recommended this anime to me and I'm really glad I gave it a chance. Romance anime is really hit or miss with me, but this one is so well done. The comedy is like my exact humor, I was genuinely in tears laughing at so many moment. All the characters are really well fleshed out and have great interactions with each other. And yeah romance is the main topic but there's lots of other little sub plots that are what make this show. There's more serious topics at times but it's really not that intense. If you like a lot more emotionally intense anime, this is a great little mind break. Just enjoy some laughs with this one!

Spoiler FREE, short review. This is one of the most underrated animes I have ever watched. I don't even like romance animes. This show is absolutely hilarious and I was completely invested in the characters. It is a great commentary on anime, romance, normalcy, and stereotypes. Some of the scenes are so funny I will never forget them, the show is GREAT. Particularly because some of the characters are so psychologically interesting, yet the show respects all the characters. Awesome show! I just wish there was more.
The show does a good job of breaking gender roles. It has a great opening theme song. Throughout the anime, I was left trying to figure out what these characters are thinking. There are only some characters that we know exactly how they feel, and others we are left almost complet…

SUMMARY: Super entertaining and funny, if you like comedy anime watch it.
This anime is very good, it fulfills its purpose which is to make the viewer laugh, I must say that it does it quite well.
Their normal but memorable characters, their interactions are the funniest I've ever seen.
Something that is also good to emphasize is that he uses the tropes of his genre, and he uses them both to make fun of them and to take advantage of them to get a laugh, GREAT.

Alright, my first mediocre review! A couple spoilers btw
This show has an interesting concept but is ultimately held down. The entire length of the show is spent introducing characters that save the show from utter annihilation as all of the "side main" characters are very interesting and fun, and each are related and represented as a personality from a manga. What holds this show down is that the entirety is introduction, there's absolutely zero progression throughout the entirety of it making you feel inevitably bored. On top of that the two main characters Nozaki and Chiyo are so boring my brain felt like it fell off whenever they were the focus of an interaction.
Spoilers Ahead!
Chiyo is the most bland girl ever who has a crush Nozaki, a manga artist, who's entire character is bein…
