Very pleasantly cute for a 7-minute episode show!
Tonari no Seki: The Master of Killing Time is a super funny time waster. It's good for passing the time with something simple and uncomplicated.
It's filled with funny antics of Semi doing all sorts of random things in class. Like Yokoi, you can't help but be drawn to Seki's craziness.
Nothing spectacular about the plot. There's almost no story. Nothing outstanding about the animation either. But you know what? It's okay because it's enough to serve the comedic purpose! The only point of the show is to make you laugh at its silliness.
And even though there's not a lot of depth and development for the characters, they're still very lovable and fun to watch. All in all, simple but entertaining.

Accidentally one of the most relatable representation of ADHD I’ve ever seen. The anime is obvious just a comedy that doesn’t mention the disorder or anything, but just the way Seki-Kun behaves is incredibly relatable, even if it’s often over exaggerated for comedic effect. It’s not him being lazy, In fact it’s quite the opposite as he puts mountains of effort into his own over the top projects. He’s just unwilling or unable to direct his focus towards what’s important.
I would recommend this anime to anyone who has had attention difficulties. The anime is very light hearted and comedic, it doesn’t show any deep struggles or anything, but you might get a laugh out of it.

Tonari no Seki-kun is an eminently creative anime, defined by zany, relatable, fast-paced humor. It takes a concept everybody who went to school can relate to, and brings it to the extreme. This novel concept, when paired with its rather unusual 7 minute episode format, makes for an overall delightful experience which is sure to please pretty much anyone who watches it. Beginning with the story, it is unapologetically episodic, with the titular Seki engaging in some manner of wild hijinks while Yokoi watches on in disdain, annoyance, joy, or rapt engagement. I personally love this formula, and how you have to figure out what exactly he's doing and how he's going to pull it off each episode. So, while the story is indeed very simple, it's perfect for this anime. With the addition of certain…

Anime like this having ratings below 8 are why I don't trust ratings for finding anime. People don't appreciate quality that isn't pushed into the mainstream.
The two main characters play off of each other so well, that i'm incapable of providing enough descriptors to explain what makes this show so enjoyable. Every episode is a fun reactive to proactive interaction. The side characters though, provide little to to show, though they aren't the focus at all. Watch even the opening the get a feel for the wackiness of these two classmates and maybe you'll understand why I love this anime

It's a short anime of 5 minutes each chapter so you watch it pretty quickly. I liked the character design and the bizarre plot it has. The best thing is to see the relationship of the protagonist of how not to understand what her partner does, to accompany him in doing crazy things and having fun with him. Without him realizing it. The animation is fine, the soundtrack meets the ending is good. The characters are quite unique, I loved that Seki is so good at so many things and how the girl is stunned. It is an entertaining anime but if you watch anything very complex and spend a good relaxed time, I recommend it.

Super short anime episodes kinda suck, imo.
I never bothered with them, as there is only so much you can tell given the time.
This mindset of mine, is why so many 25 minute episode shows suck.
Ever had the feeling, after watching an episode that they could have told this in half the time? We prefer stories that are told in a fitting timeframe.
Yet given a set amount of time and episodes, so few anime manage to find the perfect balance between being stretched thin, or rushing through itself.
On a more important note, i present to you,
COMEDY:
When god gives you AIDS, make Lemonaids.
Best joke ever, i know.
Now here's the hardest challenge you ever had in your entire life.
Take this, or better yet, your own favourite Joke.
Now tell that joke, but add two more sentences to it.…

Ahhh, "Tonari no Seki-kun" was so fun. It's such a classic set-up executed so creatively and so visually interesting. But, more than the jokes (which were hit and miss with plenty of hits), the subtle development of Seki and Rumi's relationship over the course of the series was very well done. And not in a romantic sense per se, although we can assume it could go in that direction (given the sequel manga). At the beginning, they're just classmates and Rumi is hardly involved with his schemes, but she lets herself get caught up in them more and more until she's essentially a co-author of the fantasy and Seki clearly cares about her opinions and input. All of that with hardly a word actually spoken between them, and only a friend who ships them to tease about how it could become a deeper con…

Giving this show below an 8 is sacrilege as far as I'm concerned. Taking it for what it is, a slice of life anime about a boy who comes up with creative ways to waste time in class, for me, this anime is fantastic. It never failed to have me smiling and laughing throughout.
The writing, humour and characters in this show are superb. The development of Yokoi as she gets sucked into the narrative of Seki's storylines is such an entertaining watch. How emotionally invested she gets in him playing Shogi and with the Robot Family is hilarious. This anime somehow turns things like chess and shogi into gripping storylines.
The detailed nuance of the animation really adds to the comedic effect. What's truly impressive is there is virtually no dialogue between the two main characters, yet the r…

Tonari no Seki-kun (2014)
A pretty entertaining show that is a fun start to finish for the most part. I actually used this as a show to watch whilst I was eating breakfast. It requires little effort to get into as each episode is individual.
The show does do some repeating of gags with only slight differences at times which is understandable but a bit bland. I would say that the majority of it was really nicely done. It does however not really have a story as such.
The art for 2014 is really good and of a great standard.
The OP is pretty great, I do love the 'Yamete' bit at the end. The ED is good too. Voices are pretty well done.
The characters don't really develop. You start off with a level playing field. The main girl does develop in her interest to the distractions increase b…

Funny short animation. And HanaKana never dissapointed me with her great voice acting! Yes, this show focus to HanaKana character, not for the male lead. And i really happy about that situation. Lmao!
There is no complex story telling this show has. Its simply animate the reaction over some random activity the main lead has! Yes, random, and sometime, weird. Another scene being a psycopat. Even go to the killing scene (just for the joke sake). And more shit thrown up to the surface of the show. And we, just sit here, watching how cute the reaction HanaKana made at entire session!
Haha, yes, i came here for that purpose. To listen cute sound made by HanaKana. No other meaning watching this nonsense. I dont even get the joke quiet well since they bring no impact. Yet, the comedy feel so cr…

Tonari no Seki-kun is a outstanding anime. I couldn't stop laughing watching the 1st episode at least.
I like the 1st Episode , Shogi's Episodes and Robot Family's Episodes the most.
I didn't even realize that i have already complete the whole series. The episodes were short but the most enjoyable anime i have ever watched.
This show must be 7.66 rated because of the short duration of the episodes. This show should be 8+ rated at least.
Pros - Enjoyable Comedy.
Cons - There will be 2-3 episodes which are not enjoyable.

Tonari no Seki-kun, a show which dares to be open as an absurdist, one which i wouldn't even guessed could find it's way to the anime world, it does it's job so smoothly in the story telling and the fact that "you don't even need a story line to execute enjoyment and productivity and creativity" that you ask yourself, how? how it can be so funny and creative at the same time with the pilot around Seki-kun and Yokoi spending 90% of all the anime in a classroom staring at Seki-kun's desk. but when you see all of this come up together, with an actual good art and music and sounds, it simply interprets itself as probably one of the best comedy experiences in anyone interested in story telling matter.
So yeah, I'll truly miss this unique experience while keep living in world which seems like it…

This anime is a slice of life comedy about two students in a classroom: Rumi Yokoi, a studious girl trying to pay attention to the teacher, and Toshinari Seki, a boy paying no attention to the teacher who plays around through every class.
Each episode, Yokoi is distracted by Seki's latest game, whether that be a twisted version of Shogi or him playing around with a toy robot family, with each scenario ending up with Yokoi completely absorbed in watching to see the humorous outcome. Each episode is 7-8 minutes long, just over 5 minutes if the intro and outro are removed (not that you'd want to remove them). It's great for brightening up your day, whether you've got 10 minutes to spare on an episode or 3 hours to binge the lot.
Tonari no Seki-Kun is a must-watch for veterans and newcomers…

First of, if any show entertains me while I'm watching it, without me ever checking to see how much time is left on the episode, i think it deserves a 10 in entertainment, and since the purpose of anime is primarily to entertain, than any show that entertains is a 10.
Although this show was entertaining, it was ultra episodic, and each episode was 8 minutes long, which means nothing changed over the course of the show. The show did hint at some romances, like having Yokai's friends think she was freaking Seki, and at the end had the teacher investigating yokai's family, but none of these plotpoints were followed up.
The characters are simple, and they don't have complex motivations, but that doesn't ruin the show, i think that just limits its creators.
I do really like the OP
Overall,…

Tonari no seki-kun is that anime which you would simply fall in love with .Even if you are in despair because your favourite character died in some random anime you have been watching or even if you have a list of hot mainstream anime in your list which you haven't watched, still I can guarantee you this will keep u busy, interested and will completely cope your mind in finding more time to watch it and see it throughout till the end.
Story:
The story revolves around a girl named Rumi Yokoi and her classroom neighbour Seki-kun, who never seems interested in class and does so many random things to keep himself from being bored. But these out-of-the-blue things which he does constantly keeps Rumi bugging as she wants to study yet in the same time they are so interesting that she finds herse…

In my neverending search for hyperbolic comedies, Tonari no Seki-kun is the latest in a long line of searches. Japanese anime just seem to have a large supply of such exaggerated humor. From Gintama to Plastic Neesan to Azumanga Daioh, anime never seem to run out of ways in making people laugh through the most ridiculous antics of cartoon characters.
Unfortunately, as we know well enough, quantity doesn't necessarily equate to quality.
Tonari no Seki-kun has a very simple premise, so simple, in fact, that one could sum it up in a sentence: Seki's fooling around in the classroom distracts his classmate Rumi. While simplicity can be effective in storytelling, there are often the case where simple equals blend or even formulaic. The relationship between Seki and Rumi is a cliched one: idiot…

In the words of Leonardo da Vinci, ‘simplicity is the ultimate sophistication’.
Tonari no Seki-kun is incredibly simple, yet it’s imaginative, creative, engrossing, and funny. It’s hard to believe they managed to make such an enjoyable series from a bunch of 7 minute episodes - although in hindsight the short episodes worked better for the anime than longer ones would have. Just the right amount of time is spent on each of Seki’s antics. It never gets boring, and I think the reason why is that the script is written so cleverly and voice-acted so well. The script-writers managed to create a perfect balance of fascination, annoyance and exasperation on Yokoi’s part, mixed with a tad of resignation to keep it relatable for the viewers. Her reactions to Seki’s time-killing are what makes this…

Here's my take after watching 21 episodes of the fun and time-killing : The Master of Killing Time by Shin-Ei Animation Studio.
How should I put this...
Tonari no Seki Kun is a great take on an enjoyable way to kill time. Since each episode is just around 7 minutes it is easy to watch on your phone while on the go and it does not try and stretch itself that the story or "period" becomes laggy.
But don't be thrown away with the running time since it remarkably retains the essence of the story, the tension it brings, and the laughs that make you break out in laughter.
The story mainly revolves around the quirky and playful Toshinari Seki and his curious observer/forced participant class neighbor Rumi Yokoi.
Each episode is a period in their class and is a story in itself. During each…

Laugh,smirk,cry,growl... you can't escape curiosity. As much as something can annoy you it can also amuse you. Maybe it stems from childhood on jealousy of things you missed out on. Or maybe it is primal in terms of wondering if danger lurks near. While the cause remains a mystery your joy is guaranteed here. Come and sneak peaks of the wild side. Embrace your emotions.
That is the kind of optimism provided in the show. While school is about structure and learning it does rob of us of our time and souls.
As for the ending it is entirely what you would expect and a little bit of what you wouldn't. A good ending but was justice fitting or blind? You decide.

One of the things I learned as I studied comedy writing throughout my youthful years, find a creative way to craft the same joke to tell it as many times as possible. Tonari No Seki-kun has one job and does it very well. A show with such a direct premise manages to have me asking many questions.
STORY: I admittedly did little research on The Master of Killing Time prior to watching it, so I was curious to see how it would manage to sustain its humor for 21 minutes. I later learned each episode runs 6 minutes, opening and closing credits. And it's great. Each project is paced the same, which starts with Rumi Yokoi, the female lead and Seki-kun's seating neighbor, believing it's going to be a normal class, only to be distracted by whatever it is Seki begins constructing as she interprets/na…
