Ya Boy Kongming!

Ya Boy Kongming!

Introduction

Zhuge Kongming earned a reputation as one of the greatest tacticians of the Three Kingdoms period of third-century China. Having led his army through countless grueling victories, Kongming falls gravely ill during the Battle of Wuzhang Plains. The weariness and regret stemming from the seemingly never-ending war catch up to him, and as he draws his final breath, Kongming wishes that if he were to reincarnate, he would be reborn in a more peaceful era. His wish comes true, and Kongming wakes up in modern-day Tokyo with a younger body and his memories intact. Thrust into an unfamiliar world, he finds his way into a nightclub and meets Eiko Tsukimi, an aspiring singer whose performance immediately captivates him. Pitying his confusion, Eiko takes Kongming under her wing and teaches him about the current world, which leads to Kongming's interest in contemporary music. Seeing Eiko's immense musical potential, Kongming vows to make the world recognize her and soon takes on the role of her manager. Unsurprisingly, the music industry is unforgiving to those who make even the slightest mistakes. Still, Kongming is determined to accomplish his goals—even if he must utilize the war stratagems he famously used in his previous life! [Written by MAL Rewrite]

An ancient Chinese general transported back to modern day to play the role of a manager for a girl that wishes to become an idol? sign me up! As you just read, the story itself is quite unique, and i can't exactly remember anything that has a similar plot to this. Though, the presentation itself isn't exactly something new, and Koumei himself is in there more so for the name than the character itself. Because honestly, you could probably just change him with an eccentric 40 yo dude who's favorite subject in high-school was history and nothing would change But not everything out there needs to be a masterpiece, so if you wanna feel good and have a good time with some silly characters, this is the show for you. Or if you just don't know what to watch in the moment. Either way, this is a s…

If you are a Eastern historical nerds, you can gratitude of just showing Kongming and its creativity, but anime itself is not delicate. His characteristic is somewhat different from the real history. For example, his strategy was quoting historical one, but content inside was totally different. Kongming was not a type of doing his own basic things, rather than making a miracle. To be honest, the story is full of cliche, and keep repeating. Eiko wants, and Kongming solves. That's it. It's not deniable. However, I want to recommend this anime, just due to the existence of 96Neko as a singer starring Eiko. It's definitely music anime, and 96Neko, who has been a high-end Utaite, went well with song and character of Eiko. She was one of the famous Utaite in Nikodon, but even her successor was…

"Ya Boy Kongming!" is simply a fun watch that does a good job of encapsulating the struggles small musical artists go through while adding a large dose of humor and insanity by having a famous war tacticianer be in the mix. The characters in the show are surprisingly grounded in reality with their desires and weaknesses, despite the outlandish premise of the show. The main draw of the show is how Kongming uses military stratagems to get a very little-known artist "Eiko" to stardom. Every episode seems to give off the "aha" vibe that mystery novels bring, as it is a mystery every time on how Kongming pulls off this impossible mission. For a show about music, they didn't skimp out on the quality songs. The show mainly focuses on the main characters' hip-hop/club music, but the show does a g…

It is a blast I completed it in one go. So, in a landscape that feels barren to me, I turned on Kongming based on a friends recommendation and found that every episode just flat out filled me with joy. This anime has heart, it has good character growth, and it has a very particular quirkiness that hits the right buttons. And that was honestly all it needed to make it the most fun I've had watching anime in a long time. Let’s talk about what the show is. At its heart, it is a lighthearted breezy music anime. If I were forced to throw it in a category with similar shows, I think I’d probably pick something like K-On. Kongming is not the main character; the main character is Eiko, an aspiring pop singer and Kongming’s chosen warlord. The show is relatively drama free. Eiko has some history…

I really loved when this show leaned into its overarching plot or its silly premise, but it did unfortunately little of both. Instead it spent a lot of time on character-based plot for characters that felt very flat. While each character has a generally unique personality, they don't really interact with each other. Eiko is expressive, outgoing and a little silly, but nobody ever reacts to her. She'll emote and quip with no reactions from anybody. Kongming is stoic with a carefree & goofy side, but people only comment on 1) him being clever and 2) him wearing strange clothes. His close friends never actually ask about his past, despite him seemingly being willing to talk about it. When that type of thing plays out over and over again it's hard to find the characters believable. Charact…

There are different genres of anime out there to appeal to a variety of tastes. Action, drama, slice of life, comedy, musical, shounen, seinen, etc. You can enjoy any number of these, or none of them, point is that there is an endless variety of different choices out there, so surely you will find what you're looking for. Rarely though, there comes a series that takes multiple of these genres together and weaves them into a seamless blend, making the coexistence of some of these contradicting ideas seem so natural. And while the hilariously named Ya Boy Kongming is a comedy first and foremost, it blends so many other elements into itself, creating something truly unique. Kongming firstly stands out by having one of the most ridiculous premises I've ever heard. An ancient Chinese general…

premises is great, like who the hell can ever imagine about Zhuge Liang got reborn in a modern Japan? the 1st episode really hooked me up because light everywhere, loud music, and stuff and it carry on till the end of 1st half. the 2nd half really slow the paced down which i don't mind at all but after that fast paced 1st half, the 2nd half makes it kinda underwhelming. don't get me wrong, it's still good but it deducted a point from me. Music is really great! 96neko really fits EIKO personality when singing. and Kabe rap is really good too! opening and ending song really catchy. overall it's a good anime with a banger song. highly recommended!

What do you get when you combine idols and the romance of the three kingdoms? A clusterfuck presumably right? Wrong, you get a fun romp of Koumei from the Three Kingdoms being isekai’d into modern day Japan. With a mission to make aspiring idolstar, Eiko, world famous. Since he believes her songs have the power to bring world peace. The series reminded me of another series called “Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad” in more ways than one. How did it do that? And was this anime able to keep such a ludicrous concept interesting throughout its run? I’m unfamiliar with the Romance of Three-Kingdoms and Chinese history as a whole. So I was hesitant on picking up the series feeling that it wasn’t for me. I was relieved that “The Romace of the Three Kingdoms' ' wasn't required reading. Nonetheless, I wa…

It's fine, safe and easy to watch, no real drama or stakes. The concept of Kongming reborn in modern world mostly plays out in first half and then kinda takes backseat to other characters. Someone who is into the history of Three Kingdoms or j-pop will likely appreciate it more than I did. Second half of the season is focused heavily on songs and this is where they lost me. I can't help but compare the music in Paripi Koumei to Carol and Tuesday and I feel like music is not even in the same league. Rap part sounded nice but it's hard to evaluate one need to be able to understand Japanese to appreciate it and the rest of the music is very generic and bland. I'm pretty sure I won't recognize any of the songs in an hour after I heard them. Opening is so catchy that it almost saves it but i…

Paripi Koumei is one of those feel-good series that transcends fandoms. Even though I dislike music anime in general, I gave this show a shot after hearing its catchy OP, and from episode 1 I was hooked. Although I didn't finish it in one go, I did 4 stints of 3 episodes each, which may be a better watch to watch this show, to allow the good vibes to sink in over time. This reminded me of Yofukashi no Uta in how it left me feeling every time I watched it. A really good vibe episode to episode, that is worth the 4 hours. It also gave me Hikaru no Go vibes as well, Kongming resembles Sai, and the character growth of Eiko and Hikaru are strong points of both animes. The manga status reads "publishing", so I hope there is a contunation not too far down the road. Animation 8/10 - Not super act…

The titular Kongming is a wartime strategist for his lord in ancient China, but then he dies and reappears (presumably in his 30's, though that's unclear) in modern-day Japan after wishing to be reborn in a time without conflict. He runs into Eiko, a young woman who is aspiring to be a famous singer, and decides that he will become her strategist to ensure that she becomes the singer that the world desperately needs. This is a series I thoroughly enjoyed with solid animation and a set of incredible songs, this series elevates itself through its titular character. Dude's a joy to watch every time he's on screen, whether he's being serious or bringing some levity. And yes, the OP is a bop. I like all of the main cast, actually. What holds it back is a real feeling of tension. Kongming is su…

Paripi Koumei is a treasure, and so is the star, Kongming: One of the most accomplished Chinese military strategists of history. Upon his death in 234 AD, he wished to be "Reborn in a more peaceful era," suddenly, he appears today on the streets of Hell (aka Tokyo) in his handmade Taoist robe with his iconic crane feather fan, amid a Halloween celebration! The bewildering party people, who he mistakes for Hell's minions, get him drunk and sweep him into a nightclub. His first real interaction is with an underdog singer Eiko in a nightclub. After discovering her unappreciated skill, he vows to ensure her success and becomes her millennia-old manager. Appearing like a full-time cosplayer, or a delusional history nerd, Eiko takes him in and accepts his help. Little did she know, his backgroun…

Let me get one thing out of the way first: I went with "Mixed Feelings" for this one, because when I try to think of people in general, I think some will like this series a lot and others just won't feel as engaged by it regardless of the show's quality, and rather due to the oddball premise. Considering only my friends and acquaintances, from a personal point of view, I would in fact recommend this one to them. Overall, Paripi Koumei was a very pleasant surprise for me. I had low expectations based on the description of the anime; the weird pairing of historic chinese tactitian with the 'oshare' pop music theme reminiscent of idol anime, neither of which I'm personally not a huge fan of (yet) to begin with. Despite that, the anime doesn't fail to deliver on excitement, conflict and mood…

I decided to watch this anime a little randomly. I went with 0 expectations and maybe that's what helped me finish this anime. Since its first episode it was very clear that the proposal was curious, neither exciting nor boring, just curious and make the anime be good or bad would depend mainly on the execution of this idea. The execution itself is not the worst or the best, the anime is well average in all its time. Characters without having much to tell, cool interactions and some interactive plot choices. What the anime wanted to go through through your proposal might not have targeted me specifically, maybe someone else can feel much more captivated than I've been. I confess that from the first episode I knew it would not be an unforgettable anime, I watched just out of curiosity. Uniq…

No, I'm not even going to attempt to justify my score. Kongming is a great anime, but by "objective" standards it probably isn't a masterpiece. What it was, though, was exactly the anime that I needed right now. The fact is, I'm getting older. Anime has moved on from me. I look at the new season lists and feel no particular desire to watch anything that's on them. Isekais universally leave me cold. So, in a landscape that feels barren to me, I turned on Kongming based on a friends recommendation and found that every episode just flat out filled me with joy. This anime has heart, it has good character growth, and it has a very particular quirkiness that hits the right buttons. Now this is a form of Isekai that I have never seen before. An Chinese war strategist gets isekaid into the present Japan. A very creativ and funny idea. We follow Eiko trough her journey of becoming a singer. It is a very beautiful, funny and sad journey which is what I love about this Anime. Kongming, the Chinese wat strategist I was talking about before, wants to help Eiko achieve her dream and wants to get more people to hear her music. We see how Eiko grows and also how her music helps people. I kinda felt like the first 4-5 episodes were a bit rushed because every episode was another "problem" that got solved in the same episode, but I really started to enjoy it in the middle. Also, I felt like it was always the same song so no difference in songs until the middle of the Anime. A…

This is my first review, please forgive any mistakes. Story: The story would be basically boring, terribly clichéd and uninteresting. However, they made the most of it. It's been a long time since I felt so good in an anime where you don't have to worry or fear what will happen with the story, you just watch and enjoy. Opening: One of the highlights of this anime is the opening. It's unusual, but that's why it's excellent. Fun fact: The opening is based on a Hungarian fun song called: Jolly - Bulikirály Ending: The ending is pretty good anyway. It worked for me. Characters: The characters were the best in the entire anime. Both the main characters and the supporting characters were excellent. I can't name a character I didn't like. Animation: There were no problems with the animation,…

I don't remember the reason why I started this anime but I watched it as it was airing, but temporarily stopped at episode 10 due to work, and just finished the last two episodes. Somehow I feel mildly disappointed? Let's start off with the good things, I think the OP and ED of this anime are great! Super catchy and fun to sing. I like the characters as well (Eiko and Nanami gay as hell if you ask me). The whole plot and premise are pretty interesting (I heard there's other anime with similar ideas but never watched so). 96neko also has a great voice and range and I think it's great that she's able to sing for this anime, same goes for Lezel! Now for the bad stuff... The songs that Eiko sings... They're great songs don't get me wrong, but (IMO) these are NOT the kind of songs you get a…
