Lore / Story:
The premise is basic and straightforward: three girls with wildly different personalities create a club just to pass the time. Beyond that, there isn't much deep lore to unpack; instead, the show focuses on personal quirks, family backgrounds, individual tastes, and comedic goals.
Characters:
The cast is incredibly charismatic. Olivia might seem like the least impactful at first, but she is a great character who occasionally acts as the voice of reason. Hanako is pure chaotic energy; she breaks the mold by being intelligent yet having the most unhinged, dramatic, and downright creepy comedic reactions. Kasumi could be seen as the fanservice character, but her personality goes way beyond that—starting as a shy girl with a hidden dark side that gets more brutal as the plot adva…

So, this has been sitting on my wacthlist for a long time and I finally decided to give it a go. I didn’t go into Asobi Asobase expecting much, but boy, I ended up laughing way more than I thought I would.
This anime is straight up chaotic, and that’s what makes it so funny. The humor is loud, random, and completely unhinged at times. It starts off feeling like a normal slice of life, then quickly turns into absolute madness, but in the best way possible.
The main trio have great chemistry, and each girl brings her own kind of crazy. The facial expressions alone had me dying, and the voice acting really makes the jokes more hilarious, especially during the over- the-top moments. It’s one of those shows where even the smallest reactions can have you rolling lmao
What I liked most is that…

Genuinaly the only piece of media that has actually made me die laughing and almost piss myself, like usually when you watch a "funny" movie you still sort of need to force yourself to laugh; not this one. This is hands-down the funniest show I’ve seen in my life. I kid you not I was shitting myself and finding it hard to breathe every episode. I was just cackling in utter silence because my mouth couldn’t produce anything audible because of the lack of air that I was inhaling. It was just absolutely fucking hilarious. The opening is a cute little video of the three best friends and delicate music when the ending is just the complete opposite, it’s the little things like that that contribute to the immaculate and cruelly underrated comedy that is Asobi Asobase. The way the animators weren’…

I came across Asobi Asobase through TikTok, where it was recommended as a slice-of-life comedy anime. I was curious and gave it a try since I usually enjoy shows that are light and funny. After finishing it, I’d say it’s… okay. Not great, not terrible—just somewhere in between.
Honestly, I didn’t find it that funny. The humor felt a bit forced, and most of the jokes relied too much on exaggerated facial expressions and over-the-top reactions. At first, it was amusing, but it quickly felt repetitive. Instead of laughing, I often found myself just watching in silence, waiting for something to land. Another reason it didn’t fully click with me is the lack of a clear plot. I thought there would be some kind of story or at least some meaningful character growth, but it felt like a series of sk…

Totally Normal Pastimers Club,,,,, Just Ignorder The Screams
Asobi Asobase Is it totally normal slice of live show, totally not show about 3 statistical girls, that screams like a death metal band.
the OP sits the tone perfectly, 3 girls rolling around in the beautiful summer with pure white dresses, Just feminine teasing of each other. just ignore the ED.
but jokes aside, it is a fun show to watch with 3 school girls overly reacting to all the silly little games They do, and the weird Adventures they do in this club. face animations sells it completely, they are so god damn funny and grotesque sometimes.
Voice acting is good and expressive for the comedy. It is so high tempo and they can hit one tone to another in a blink of eye.
Just a school full of weirdo girls doing weirdo things…

I originally rated this a 9/10, but over time I've actually come to appreciate it even more.
I'm not big into school life anime. I've been watching anime for over two decades now, so I've seen the setting so often that it's mostly worn out its welcome for me. I'm also a bit of a comedy snob in that I don't like a lot of comedy that makes its way into mainstream media (although that seems to be less and less these days), but the comedy that I do end up enjoying usually becomes some of my favorite stuff of all time.
So it should be considered no small praise when I say that Asobi Asobase has left a lasting, positive impression on me. It truly is more than the sum of its parts. Almost lightning in the bottle. The art, voice acting, tone, comedic timing, and music work together in such a way…

I'm shook to my core. I thought I couldn't enjoy this type of humor anymore. I thought this humor was kind of dated, that it had a sort of limit that had already been reached. It was all lies.
You honestly wonder how do they come up with the premise of each one of these. Was the mangaka that traumatized from high school? When you think it can't get any more bizarre, well, it does, and it does it specifically for you. Except for the final episode, it does feel softer with its blows.
Every technical element in this anime is in perfect harmony with one another. They knew how to balance it perfectly in order to give the biggest punch to each of the jokes and gags presented. When the moment requires it, the animation will shine to burst you into maniacal laughter. In time, voice acting will b…

Overall a funny anime, the jokes are too much and forced sometimes. It's not for everyone tho, so test the waters with ep1 and decide if it's your cup of tea since it's over the top weird and edgy.
There's really not much to write about a slice of life comedy anime, the story is minimalistic by nature and humor is subjective.
Every episode is divided into ~4 short episodes or skits so to say, even strenghtening the slice of life style of the anime. Most of the time these are exaggerated situations with equally stupid solutions, there's always an opportunity to some unhinged joke and this show will take every opportunity it has to one up itself. For the same reason sometimes it can be too much, and it just feels forced.
If you want something weird and funny give this a try, if you enjoy…

The best part about Asobi Asobase is that it accomplishes what it sets out to do in every episode: give you a situation and let the personalities of those in that room take hold of it. All the characters introduced in this series are there intentionally and are not discarded, which is always an excellent move for a series to make to keep it enjoyable. I genuinely wish there was more to watch, but it's very easy to rewatch. The art style is incredible and often times can even make you a bit squeamish, but always for the best. If you enjoy an absurd comedy series, this is the perfect watch.

I picked up this anime after watching Nichijou and Azumanga Daioh (I *highly* recommend both) and was enjoying my CGDCT streak. I skimmed a couple of reviews for Asobi Asobase, figured it was worth a shot, and watched the season in about a week. And boy what a wild ride it was. First I'll say that while this show *technically* falls into the CGDCT genre, it's more accurate to say that Asobi uses the medium as backdrop for legitimate insanity and more often than not parodies the tropes associated with it (without any spoilers, nothing depicts this better than the OP). There are a few cute sequences, but they are almost always immediately derailed by some off-the-wall bonkers Fujimoto-level nonsense.
What makes the show truly impressive are two things: first, that Asobi successfully maintai…

One of the funniest animes around, shame it didn't get a second season.
The humor of the show lands every time, especially in comparison with other shows of the same genre; this is because they build on jokes in a dumb and funny way, taking the most random and stupid things and building on them to enhance other jokes, like Maeda's butt laser. And even if the humor isn't the cup of tea of everyone, the cast in itself is pretty charming and really fleshed out, making you miss them by the time the short 12 episodes go by.
Not only that, the animation is great and really creative, taking full advantage of the medium of animation and complementing and enhancing the antics the trio of girls get themselves into as they pass the time in their club. I would absolutely recommend.

This anime is pretty much a CDCGT anime but remove the 2nd C and the 1st C accordingly with plenty of unpredictable crude humor reminiscent of adult swim cartoons and you got Asobi Asobase.
Asobi Asobase's main premise is just girls doing things to pass the time (hence the club name pastimers club), boring but what makes it great is how they do the activities to pass the time because even the activities itself are fairly innocent.
The story is good, nothing too spectacular but the biggest strength is the characters way of delivering lines that sometimes make you concerned for their health with how over the top the screams are, the comedy in the anime are often off-color jokes that are often delivered by the main cast themselves but sometimes also the men in the show which is quite a choi…

I found asobi asobase in the list of the best comedies and it caught my attention and...
Comedy: of course we all know that comedy is a subjective concept, but the humor of this anime is very weak in my opinion, why is it? The humor of this anime basically consists of showing an event with exaggerated characters loudly and with strange facial movements, and it is not clever or unintelligent, as if it does not have any source material It's devoid of jokes. and yes that's why it makes all this absurdity boring and annoying for me
Characters:Olivia is one of the main trio. She claims that her English is good and her Japanese is bad because her family is foreign. Although this is good at the beginning, it becomes annoying as she repeats this joke over and over again.
Kasumi fulfills the seri…

Asobi Asobase: A Hilarious Gem
Story and Characters:
Asobi Asobase shines with its unique and unpredictable humor. The story follows three girls—Hanako Honda, Olivia, and Kasumi Nomura—who form a Pastimers Club, engaging in bizarre and hilarious antics. Each character brings something special: Hanako's extreme reactions, Olivia's faux foreigner persona, and Kasumi's deadpan delivery and fear of men. Their interactions are the heart of the show, creating a perfect blend of chaos and comedy.
Visuals and Animation:
The animation is top-notch, especially in capturing the exaggerated facial expressions that enhance the comedic effect. The character designs are charming and distinctive, with a remarkable range of visual gags. The quality of the animation stays consistently high, contributing t…

By now you probably already know not to be fooled by the intro. Each episode is basically three short segments. Mainly starring three middle school girls in an all-girls school. It probably rivals Saiki-K for funniest anime I've ever seen. It's aggressively and relentlessly funny.
There really isn't much music to speak of, though the ending theme legit kicks all kinds of ass. The art style is generally subdued and muted, until it has reason not to be. Which I kind of like, since it emphasizes the "everything is nice and pretty, but there's chaos just under the surface in middle school" vibe. Things *mostly* stick to realism but there's occasional supernatural stuff, it's worth just kinda going with it.
As much as I liked it, this wasn't a show I could binge. I was able to do 10 episodes…

Asobi Asobase is an anime mostly known for it's 'peak comedy'
Including characters that do pretty stupid mistakes, have kinda hilarious goals and the whole "cute girls doing cute things" kind of trope.. except you get face reactions that low-key look like the type of face you would make after stubbing your toe..
Comedy:
9/10
as you are aware of.. It's popular comedic effect is not for everyone. there a jokes that could be seen as "cringe" to some viewers, now before I beef with y'all.. im going to admit that may be true but I want you all to remember that there are a lot of anime's that are cringeworthy and outright stupid, but even if thats sometimes the case with Asobi Asobase.. it still covers it up with the BEST reactions you can crack up over and thats not something ev…

The comedy is... amazing!
If you're wondering if you should watch this; please do. The comedy style is similar to that of more mainstream anime like Love Is War and Nichijou. With a goofy and not-so-serious story, I recommend this to everyone.
Take off your socks, pop open a cola, sit back, and enjoy.
- Art (7/10) -
The art direction is not meant to be candy for your eyes. Characters are drawn in a more simplistic and cute manner, that pairs nicely with the narrative of the anime.
- Sound (9/10) -
The voice actors killed it. I will not further elaborate as the voice-acting itself is a piece of art that must be witnessed first-hand.
- Comedy (9/10) -
Unrealistic as heck, which is also why I love it so much. It's unhinged, crazy even. The fact that the anime is hardly rooted in reality…

Man, I loved this show. I did not expect it to be this funny and entertaining. You can tell the love and effort the staff put into it. Every episode had me dying of laughter while I had a severe cough. The animation was beautiful but also genius in how it complimented the show's over the top humor. The director did a great job making those jokes land and come to life, every episode seemed to top the previous, and at a certain point, you start to anticipate the jokes only to be blown away by the outcome. Hanako along with Olivia carried the show, their humor was unmatched compared to the other characters and their voice actors were incredible, they had no right being that good. Like seriously how can people with such little experience be that talented, no wonder there was no dub.

Asobi asobase is hilarious and has brought me so much joy. A gag anime through and through, it delivers exactly as it promises with interesting characters, quirky personalities, and solid gags.
Basically 3 girls being stupid after school and the show manages to do so much with that. As always, humour is subjective, but asobi’s humour is a little reminiscent of nichijo, so fans of that may like this too.
Art is also solid with the occasional sudden, drastic changes in art style done well to reinforce gags and make them absolutely hilarious.
Overall, a solid gag anime which I would recommend any day.

Hilarious! Three Jr. High girls are passing the time away in their after school club in this silly story of friendship and adolescence. This is one of those light hearted and easy to watch anime, but it will 100% take you back to your awkward years of trying to fit in and make friends - while managing to keep away from cringe. This anime is magnificent at depicting humorous facial expressions, they’ll get you every time! Extra points in music for sound effects and perfect timing. The most impressive thing is how truly innocent this anime is while delivering laughs that make your belly hurt - a rarity in comedy. Charismatic, cute, and relentlessly delightful, this is easily the funniest anime I have ever seen.
