Fate Apocrypha has many things to tell. Messages about love, freedom, being human, the meaning of struggle etc. It fails to get any of those messages across, and the main culprit is the dialogue.
Listening the characters talk in this anime is miserable. When it's not someone explaining the vague rules of magic, it's always "you're this" and "you're that". It is the epitome of tell don't show. To give you and idea, two of the characters had a mentor - student dynamic in the past, and there's a flashback from that point in history. The first thing you hear Achilles say is "You are my teacher". I guess showing Chiron actually teach Achilles something was an idea too complicated for the writers to come up with. The characters will straight up tell you what their ideals are, what they oppose a…

I watched this awhile back, probably around 9-10 years ago. And while I still have the same gripes I had with it back then that I do today. It's still a good anime to watch that I recommend anyone to watch if they want to watch a Fate Series.
You don't have to know about the other shows to watch this one (atleast that I remember). Rider and Saber, and even Ruler are really cool, and I especially like the battles that unfold in it.
This show also gave me one of my favorite gifs that I use to this day as a "you activated my trap card" reaction to people.
I wish I could give it a bit lower than an 8, maybe a 7.7/7.8, but that's more due to the gripes that I have with it. But I think that people calling this show bad is just not true (atleast for me).

Hi, fellow Fate/stay night fans here. Let me start with what I actually liked: the cast is interesting, the premise is promising, and the first 7–8 episodes had me hooked. Seriously, the early setup looked like it could’ve been great.
But that’s about all the praise I can muster.
Once the male protagonist..... yes, our “Mary Sue” MC steps in, most of the rules, lore, and internal logic of the show start bending around him. The characters that were intriguing early on? Gone before you even get to know them. The stakes? Quickly evaporate.
And Jeanne the supposedly “neutral” Ruler-class Servant? Yeah… spoiler-free: she’s anything but neutral. Her actions exist almost solely to prop up the MC, ignoring her own role in the story.
Our MC? Should’ve been dead multiple times, but somehow survi…

The good:
*Art style.
It's pretty.
*The fights.
Cool, fast paced battles with unique sound effects.
The bad:
*Plot
Seems to only exist to move from fight to planning to the next fight. *Overly emotional characters.
Unrelateable, and strange for battle hardened heroes. There are other ways to have deep conversations without... that.
They try to have these deep hard hitting lessons that the characters learn, but come off really basic and mundane.
*Too many subplots/characters
The amount of jumping between factions and characters within factions is jarring. It's like it's trying to be game of thrones.
*No character development
Characters start and finish the series pretty much the same.
*No cute waifus.
They're all annoying and basic.
*The show takes itself too seriously.
They set…

If the problem with Fate/EXTRA: Last Encore was that the show felt rushed and unpolished thanks to low budget and a mere 13-episode runtime, then this is a massive overcorrection; that is, Fate/Apocrypha has twice the runtime, and is visually stunning, but has no substance.
In its 25-episode run, the show presents several beautifully choreographed fight scenes, a stellar (but slightly repetitive) soundtrack, and gives us the most iconic femboy character in media.
However, most of the cast is forgettable, not due to lack of screen time; they’re just poorly written. Not the least, Jeanne d’Arc, who by all means should be the heroine of our story, yet she finds herself sidelined by our protagonist as he (a man who was literally born yesterday) surpasses her in both battle and virtue.…

Your enjoyment of this anime will be contingent entirely on your investment in the Fate franchise as a whole. When I say Fate as a whole, I mean that very deliberately, because if the only Fate property you enjoy is Fate/Zero, suffice it to say you will not enjoy Apocrypha. I suppose it will also depend on your enjoyment of action anime as such, but since you’re here, reading this, I’m kind of taking that for granted.
When and how should you watch this? Whenever and however you want. Where does this fit in the larger Fate continuity? It doesn’t. Fate/Apocrypha is a completely separate timeline. It is its own thing. This can be the very first Fate show you watch or the very last. It makes no difference.
Fun fact, apocrypha is a religious term that is the antonym of canon. So, something li…

Fate/Apocrypha offers a familiar yet engaging narrative within the Holy Grail War framework. While the history may not break new ground for Fate series enthusiasts, it maintains the series' hallmark elements. The animation stands out, showcasing the epic battles and magical elements characteristic of Fate. Characterization is a mixed bag with strong and somewhat stereotypical traits, but standout characters like Jeanne d'Arc add depth. Realism might be a stretch in a fantasy setting, but the characters' prideful reactions contribute to the story's tension. Overall, Fate/Apocrypha is a visually impressive addition to the franchise, offering a satisfying experience for those with a penchant for fantasy storytelling and captivating animation.

I’ve personally never really been sold on the “brilliance” of the Fate series. It’s always been an interesting premise: summoning legendary historical/mythological figures to fight as servants in a battle royal for an all-powerful wish granting device allows the different Fate stories to show a multitude of worldviews, personal stakes and ideological battles. And yet, I’ve always found myself feeling pretty emotionally detached from the anime adaptations. Sure, Fate/Zero has some excellent character studies—in the case of Kiritsugu and Kirei, but I found it difficult to invest in any other member of its considerably large cast. Unlimited Blade Works was the opposite, sullying it’s initial promise and enjoyable characters with a tedious climax full of trite philosophy, and a lack of cohesio…

A friend of mine warned me that Fate/Zero was an outlier in the Fate franchise and that I was probably not going to enjoy the rest of it. I should've listened.
Fate/Apocrypha is essentially a check list of shit I either hate or find exceptionally boring in anime. Dozens of interchangeable "I can't believe its not isekai" character designs, writing attempting to cover dark topics like slavery and child soldiers with the depth of of a sixteen year old's first fan fiction, and dull super combat moves that are rarely more than big laser swords and explosions.
Its so bland, repetitive and interchangeable with every other basic action shonen that it may be the thing that finally kills what momentum I had with the Fate franchise.
Plot: The Yggdmillenia family stole the grail with the Nazi's help…

The show is not that bad... but not that good either.
The biggest problem with this show is that the characters are only "semi-likeable"; they're not bad but not nearly as likeable as the characters in Fate/Stay Night. Sieg is a very bland protagonist, so if you didn't like Shirou in F/SN, you'll like him even less. There are just too many characters, too, with not enough time for develop them all. For what its worth, the master/servant pairing of Kairi and Mordred clicked instantly, as they both have amazing chemistry together.
As far as the plot goes, it's nothing to write home about. It's about the holy grail war and stuff just sort of happens. Things pick up near the end, as more characters are eliminated from the war and more focus put on the remaining ones. The ending is well-made…

If you haven't read light novels, you won't understand much of the story. It's sad because the author tries to keep the same hype for the FATE series, but due to the low budget it came out a big crap. This time, the story was unique from the other series, but some of the characters (the red team masters) didn't play an important role. If I were to keep track of appearances, it doesn't add up to 20 min in total.. which is a waste of characters that could have had an important role..
Story: 2/10, Characters: 4/10, Animation: 4/10, Enjoyment: 6/10.
Overall: 4/10

Besides seeing some nice servant fights and great OST, god the anime was a mess lol
Astolfo, Karna, and Achilles carried the show

Karna lost on purpose. He didn’t agree with what Amakusa was doing, but he still had to keep his honor so he used his NP knowing that it was the only chance seig had to beat him.Karnas passive divine armor and abilities were too strong for seig to pierce until karna stripped them .

He still somehow manage to end as a good sport after that shit. That's what sold me on how cool karna was , love how humble he was till the very end. The Lancer class are the coolest!

First of all, I read the novel beforehand as everyone should before just hating Apocrypha purely of the anime experience. Type-Moon stuff is mostly novels and we should judge this experience as an adaptation unless you don't care for Type-Moon and are a casual anime-only fan. If you do care, just read the novel and don't bother with the anime until you finish the last volume or even just 4 that were translated at the very least. Because I assume if you start watching anime after that point, you'd be already seeing what kind of stuff anime butchered for the anime-onlies and you'd be more open-minded about the story parts covering the ending while understanding it would probably go and feel very different in the source material. If you won't read the source, then It's gonna be bad. Or so I a…

You could spend your time watching paint dry, watching grass grow, watching a caterpillar morph into a butterfly, all of these would be a better time spent than wasting it on this show. It is so boring and inconsistent with it's story, that it is honestly worthy of praise in that alone. It's also impressive how the show managed to introduce characters who were slightly interesting/compelling, and then sideline them to focus on the most blandest of characters ever. When you are going around asking for anime recommendations and you see people saying "skip Fate/Apocrypha" it would be in your best interest...to listen to them.

My favorite part of Fate/Apocrypha is the powerful battles. I mean, what's a Fate show/movie without those epic battle scenes? The art was on point and the soundtrack matched perfectly. Of course, an anime's success can't rely on amazing battles and beautiful art alone. Unfortunately, when it came to plot and character development, it was very disappointing.
First, there are too many characters!
I liked the idea of having more servants and masters for an all out war... until I saw it. With the 25 episode limit, there was no possible way to get into the details of all the servants and masters. Most of the masters felt generic and just meant to be killed off. Heck! Six of the masters weren't even part of the show! Only a select few of servants get a backstory, not to mention barely getting…

This review will contain spoilers.
I think this anime is trashed on too harshly. Reading some of the most popular reviews that give it as low as a 2 makes me think some people expect way too much out of anime as a form of entertainment.
This is a perfectly serviceable show with no real deal breakers.
First off, the story. It's good. It has a very unique spin on the established Fate formula that I think was adapted well (if you have no clue how Fate works, watch Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, and the three Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel movies. All of those series were done by Ufotable and are objectively better than this show). There were some elements that could have been better, sure, such as when Kotomine Shiro was revealed as a 16th servant, but overall, it is…

Might be a bit of a spoiler, like hell, watch it already, i already watched it twice and didn't get bored.
one of the first Fate series i watch, for animation/Art actually meh... like for 2017 anime beaten by Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari (2016). But, for the music (typical Masaru Yokoyama) it's one of the best, especially the battle music, heavy with classical instrument and perfect with European Theme. (spoiler) music battle sieg vs karna is the best. story wise kinda too fast to care about the other character. it's really enjoyable, don't pause mid battle!!! Character dev. some are nicely done. i wish there's a remake for apocrypha, in FGO (mobile game) it's the best event ever done because we enjoy it.

Okay so,
I really love the fate franchise because of how much it focuses on it's characters and their strategies
on each fight whether it's important or not and how the visuals just make it like this amazing combination like FATE/ZERO and FATE/STAY NIGHT:UBW.Now fate/apocrypha.
Story:It's the holy grail war bu it's a TEAM DEATHMATCH and their are two teams RED and BLACK
and they fight to win the great holy grail. The story made me be like okay whatever.
Art:The art definitely stands out because the visuals were really different from fate zero and fate stay nighr UBW because instead of being like a fully beautifully detailed adaptation it was like I was watching one punch man visuals on steroids.
Character : The characters were not some fate character they were just some random power fan…

The servants were interesting and the show executed a good plot with good fighting scenes.
I think compared to other fate series each servant was slightly less developed but it was also because there were 2 times the number of servants so it cannot really be helped. But the design of each servant was not compromised and the main characters, especially Astolfo and Shirou are really well developed.
It could have been a bit longer though as I felt it was a bit short and did not cover everything in enough length but oh well, a budget is a budget. Also, there was a bit of plot armor but I will not include spoilers in this review.

Fate/Apocrypha may go down as one of the biggest anime that I was excited for, and absolutely did not follow up on its potential. There are just... so many problems.
Story: We all know the Fate story - you and a partner are entered into the Holy Grail War and the last one standing is the winner of the Holy Grail. This one's story is ever so slightly different though. Instead of 7 contestants with a servant each, there are 14! Each master gets a servant from a given class (Rider, Assassin, Caster, Sabre, Berserker, Lancer or Archer). In this incarnation, there are two sides - Red and Black. The two teams are to cooperate and duke it out against the other team. When one team is beaten, the remainders on the other team faces off against each other and the winner is the last one standing. The…
